We happened to see this cute restaurant as we were driving through the parking lot and decided to stop for lunch. The patio is very welcoming and lovely. We both had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes/gravy and okra and a side salad. The food was most excellent and the waitress, Nidia, was very nice and helpful. Since it was such a good experience, we went back for lunch today. Because it was raining, we sat inside. This time we had the salmon, mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. Stumbled across this gem while driving around the area (visiting from VA). We enjoyed it so much we ate there twice! Very cool ambience, awesome view, cold local beer and delicious is food. I'd like to first say that I really liked the man who greeted us and sat us down. I just love diners and used yelp to find this breakfast place. That's where the good ended. The service was hor-ri-ble. Our waitress told us about four times that she would be by as she scurried past us. Then we she finally came over, she looked at us and said "go". My kid likes to order his own food and she rushed the poor little guy. Then she didn't bring over his juice. We got our food and it wasn't memorable. My husband ended up having to leave cash because she was nowhere to be found to pay with a credit card. Service, service, service. I've been a waitress before (and busboy and bartender all at once) with many people coming in at once. You gotta be organized and move. We feel that was a waste of a meal. read more

We have literally been coming since the inception of this restaurant. We don't know what has happened this winter but this place has gone from an A+ breakfast to terrible/failing. From unfriendly bar staff to being sat at a table for 30 minutes without anyone coming by to take an order, the service is just terrible. Our last visit we sat and waited to place a drink order for 25 minutes and finally got up and walked out. There are so many great breakfast places on the Valley. Can't disagree with the masses this time; this place is pretty great. It's between Vail and Beaver Creek (Avon). From the outside it looks like every other gas station and if you didn't know it was there you'd probably just keep driving. They have a great breakfast menu and out of the 7 people I had breakfast here with all 7 liked it. They have discounted drinks for breakfast. A mimosa was $2.75 and they were not small flutes of champagne; someone was a little tipsy even before breakfast arrived. The food as a whole is great. My one and only gripe: The breakfast potatoes are al dente instead of crispy. Honestly though how can you complain about an overall delicious breakfast with drinks for 7 for a grand total of $89 in Vail/Eagle/Avon? You can't!! OK, stayed in Avon for the night instead of spending more than I had to for breakfast we decided to stop at this place while driving towards the highway. This is a great place which you can easily miss. Try to find it, its on your right side driving north from Avon area and would be on the left on Route 6 driving south bound. We sat outside and enjoyed our experience. Its a "grab a menu and find yourself a place to sit kinda place." Ioana (I hope I caught our name right) was wonderful. After breakfast she asked if we wanted more coffee to go or if we need water and lemon, who else does that!!!! I will upload a pic of what we had. My hubby had the trout and eggs were fantastic while I had the veggie omelate with goat cheese. We both went through our plates and enjoyed it greatly! I went to a wedding in Beaver Creek in September, and I wanted to get out of the resort and find somewhere more local to grab breakfast. My dad and I came here on a Saturday morning and were seated right away. Service was kind of slow- but the waitress was very sweet and nice. I got a ham & cheese omelet with a side of berries and coffee. It was good, nothing spectacular, it's regular diner food,but it hit the spot. read more

I would add a photo but I loved my food so much. The corned chicken hash is a first, but it was smothered in country gravy with crisp home potatoes/fries and two over easy eggs (my favorite). Anyone who likes eggs, potatoes and meat smothered in country gravy will love this! My newly wedded wife had the Denver omelette and it was thick, buttery and delicious. Route 6 is a classical ski-town dive bar. The atmosphere reminds one of a Saloon somewhat. We went here for lunch and the service was adequate. The food was nothing to boast about but also wasn't terrible. I ordered off of their happy hour menu and had their venison chili. It was hearty and full and had a great cooked at home aroma and taste. We wife ordered the Asian chicken salad. All the contents were of a high quality and seemed to be consistent of what you would expect at that price point. I really enjoyed this off the beaten trail place and would go back if nothing more than to sit on the patio and relax at the amazing scenery of the valley. read more

Let me start by saying the owner, Ollie, is the most hardworking restaurant/bar owner I have ever seen. Unfortunately, his employees walk over him. They abuse the trust he gives them. They are too worried about visiting, smoking (including smoking pot behind the bar)and drinking. If they spent as much time cleaning as they do visiting, it would make a world of difference. I have witnessed on many occasions the cooks coming out and getting drinks. One of them gets a double Absolute vodka on the rocks... One bartender is always talking about how she cant work without her edibles (gummies). This past week we witnessed the employees doing lines of coke behind the bar. They were wiping their noses (masks??) then waiting on customers without washing their hands. I also witnessed a bartender speaking to a customer asking him what his problem is, and is he ever happy... More regulars that will not be returning. This place could definitely benefit from an intervention by John Taffer. read more

Whatever you do do not go here . I just wanted to get some pancakes to go that I was craving and it ended up being burnt. Had them remake it and they were soggy and not done the second time. When I returned to get my order again I saw a cook eating French fries off someone's plate in the food line that was going out to a customer. I will never set foot into this place again. This is another place that has become sort of a family tradition. It is a great place for a good breakfast and coffee. It is also a great place if you need to fill up your car as well as your stomach, as you pretty much have to walk past the gasoline pumps out front to get into the restaurant. I go crazy over their corned beef hash, and this is one of the few places where I enjoy ordering that dish. Mom will reliably order the eggs benedict, and I think she believes that there is something regal about breakfast with hollandaise sauce. Someone should tell her that it's only egg yolks and butter with lemon juice and some other stuff. The atmosphere at the Route 6 is reliable as well. If you like oldies music, hot coffee, and friendly people, you will likely find yourself right at home at the Route 6. Oh yeah, I almost forgot their slogan, "Eat here, get gas." read more

I came in starving. Thats really the worst thing you can do here. I wanted a divine breakfast and the reviews on yelp lead me to believe thats what would happen. So you pick up your menu and find your own table. Cool.. But then my waitress never came over? Maybe its better to have people seat you in that instance? Literally, it was me staring at a waitress until she said she'd call over our tables waitress. (They weren't even that busy..) After having sat there for 20 minutes we had the luxury to order our drinks and food. Our waitress was quick so I felt like I had to oder super speedy for her to even listen to us. Our smoothie came out first, it was okay but brought out by a really nice/attentive waiter. WHY couldn't have we had him first!!! Then our food came out and we were never checked on again. I ordered the two eggs plate - super simple. Nothing outstanding. Did enjoy the size of the plate - it was huge. Great for my hunger! My boyfriend had the denver omelette - same story. Received our checks by another waiter, easily paid and left. Literally nothing too special about our visit... hopefully the service can improve though. Route 6 Cafe, you're a gem. Don't change. We spent a fabulous weekend at Vail for some leaf peeping, and decided to stop here before picking up the dog from the kennel and then heading up to Holy Cross for some day hiking (no 14er here, folks). After scouring Yelp reviews of breakfast spots in Vail Village, I decided that I didn't want to be charged extra if I wanted hash browns or a piece of toast, so we ventured to give Route 6 a go since it was a) cheaper, b) included sides, and c) was on our way. We had the breakfast burrito (smothered, of course) and the pulled chicken hash for breakfast. Both dishes were absolutely delightful. I was pretty hungry and didn't need to eat the whole burrito, but I did because it tasted good and I'm not even sad about it. I also stole a couple of bites of my husband's chicken hash which was also pretty awesome. Side note - they also have fabulous brewed coffee in my opinion. And, we'll definitely be back to Route 6 Cafe the next chance we get. Two thumbs up! read more

We're very lucky that this place is a mile from our house. The staff, the food and the atmosphere are all awesome every time. It's nice to be able to sit outside and bring the dog. Four of us went a few nights ago on Saturday and showed up just a few minutes before the kitchen closed-- like the oblivious jerks we are. We had resolved to try to go elsewhere but the server was so sweet and took great care of us regardless of our extremely poor time management. Wish I knew her name-- thank you!!! The black bean veggie burger is now one of my very favorite things to eat in the valley. I had also eaten it the night before for dinner. Breakfast rocks here. It was OK. That's about as inspired as I can get describing our visit. The waiter was friendly and the service quick, but the food lacked a little pizazz and was pretty forgetful. The portion sizes were average, with your normal Eggs, bacon, pancake combo. I did step outside of the box and ordered the poached Eggs and crab cake, this was not nearly as exciting as it sounds and taste was just as boring. What I love about this place is the way they set expectations. There's a sign when you walk in that says something like "Find a clean table and sit down" That's how you know there's a laid back attitude and not to expect too much. Our food was pretty good, the portions were plentiful, and you could drown in the mug of coffee they give you. The location may seem a bit suspect but this little cafe delivers. The service was good and the food tasted great. This place use to be just ok but that all goes out the window when you find a large dead bug cooked up with your food. Looked like a roach or beetle or something. We kept it pretty quit and discrete with our server and politely left. Talking to a friend after about our experience he informed us the same thing happened to him on another occasion.
