I have been to Route 6 once. The food was okay. Nothing to special. The service was warm and friendly. The thing that takes away for me was I tried to get lunch here for a group of people and they had switched to seasonal hours. No where was this posted. I couldn't find the hours change anywhere but their freaking voicemail. I checked their website, Facebook, Google, and their front door. I knew it was the off season and a lot of places open later in the day so I looked online before I scheduled the lunch there. And even their voicemail I struggled to get to day of because it sounded like they were using the line for faxing something. So a thing to consider if you are coming during the offseason. They don't open at 7am during the week. They open at 3pm. Make sure to call ahead to see if they are even open before you head out there. read more

First of all the owner is a very nice person who greets his customers in person. The staff are also very friendly. The food is very good and they have quite a selection. I recommend the 3 course dinner for only $26.00. You will not be let down. Portions are generous and my New York strip was 12 ounces. It was cooked perfectly and came with mashed potatoes and garden vegetables. The flourless strawberry cake was excellent. A great place to get a family breakfast. There is a fun sunroom with children's toys in the back to distract the little ones before your food arrives. I've eaten here before, & the Dinner Specials were OK. There were none tonight, as business is very slow now. Nachos were loaded, maybe the 1st time I've seen black olives, which I love, on them. My companions made bad choices:: Crabcakes & Chicken Pot Pie. I start out positive about each restaurant's food, but these were really awful. this is the third time I've had my order incorrect i have to say this food is street slop there's no effort in the food at all I asked for chocolate chips in my pancakes they where placed on top and served to me cold the waiter told me the chocolate would melt, it was to cold to melt but enough that it would ball instead of spread around, my pancakes also fell apart like mush bc it was underdone. ive had raw eggs from there eggs Benedict and burnt waffles that came out cold. The way that Route 6 treats their customers who are not "locals" is disgusting. They also do not follow covid protocols in any way. The restaurant is crawling with disease. No one at the bar or walking around the restaurant was wearing a mask. The sheriff even entered the restaurant at one point because no rules were being followed. We witnessed "regular" customers screaming and pushing others over being too close to their pool table. The bartenders mocked customers' orders and ignored others until after last call. Route 6 is a joke of an establishment and deserves to be shut down. read more

Terrible. I went out with some people I met, found out they were druggies so I decided to leave. My phone died and I didn't have a ride so I was going to take the bus. I was watching the clock and asked the bartender for the time since 3 clocks were different. He told me one clock was right. While watching that clock I saw my bus drive by 6 min before that bus was supposed to get there. That bus is always a couple minutes late too. I asked someone else for the time and they said it was 7 min ahead of the clock I was watching. The next bus came in an hour. I was pretty upset. So I went to sit at a table and laid my head down to rest. A woman kept bugging me, bring me 2 different drinks then going to tell her co workers I was drunk (which I heard). I was not drunk just upset I asked for the time and was given the wrong time so I had to wait an hr for the next bus. Eventually she came back and asked if I was okay and I said, "no, I was just trying to go home because I didn't want to be with druggies and a bartender gave me the wrong time." Then she proceeded to kick me out of the place and told me I'm never allowed back. I offered to give her my id so she could take down my name. Then I called an hour later and offered to give my name so they could officially ban me. They refused. I was crying at a table not near anyone because I've lost 7 friends in 2020 to ODing or suicide and I'm not trying to find more people who may do that. Definitely recommended as the best breakfast joint in the Vail valley by all the locals. We came here on the recommendation of a friend who was getting married in Vail. She said that the Eggs Benedict were the best she's ever had so we obviously had to check the place out. Was she right? Absolutely! First of all: five star service. Our server was absolutely outstanding. She was cheery, friendly, quick and just really great. I cannot say enough about good service - it really is the cornerstone of any good business. I love a place that has outstanding service and Route 6 Cafe definitely has it under control. Second of all: excellent food. For a small breakfast joint in a little hidden part of the Eagle-Vail valley, they had a great menu and some atypical things on the menu. I ordered the Full Monty, which was Eggs Benedict with avocado, sour cream and a good hollondaise sauce. I think it was great, especially if you love ham, but in the future I'd try the veggie option instead (essentially the same thing with spinach and mushrooms in lieu of ham). I'm just not a ham fan, but that doesn't mean this Eggs Bene wasn't delicious. My boyfriend got a breakfast sandwich with sausage, egg and cheese and he thought it was very tasty. He's not as vocal about his love of food, but I could tell he really enjoyed it. Lastly: large, bottomless cups of coffee. Always excellent in my book. Go get yourself a visit here if you're a local or a visitor - it's definitely worth it. Also, sit outside on the patio. I had the eggs bene (I'll have to try the Full Monte next time) and it was awesome w/ a generous serving of ham. The coffee was strong and smooth & I enjoyed it and the vessel in which it was served so much that I bought the brown mug! (I NEVER buy the brown mug.) I did have "bloody mary envy" of patrons lazily sipping their tall drinks out on the patio (cute patio, btw!) but hey, I'm driving!! Like all the way to Phoenix, so I'll at least wait to have a drink in Moab. KIDDING! In Moab, you buy the beer in a "growler" and haul it home. (Hey! It's a brown vessel too!) Yes, that's what I think about while sitting in a great little diner in the middle of the mountains, blue skies overhead, open road in front of me and a "Vail Valley" newspaper open on the table. I drift back to the paper and see there's a bike race starting soon & I notice also the upcoming winter season events. I can picture the snow, light and crisp upon the mountains, shimmering in the morning sunlight and I can't see anything better than stopping here, warming up with a brown mug of coffee (they do have other colors, btw) and enjoying a bloody mary with my Full Monte Benedict. This is a truly 5-star brunching location! This place isn't all fancy (like you might expect in fancy schmancy Vale Valley), but it is chock full of great food, great service, and comfortable tables inside and out. Route 6 cafe beats the pants out of 90% of the places available in the SF Bay Area, and certainly many other locales. For 12 bucks I had a whole pan fried river trout, potatoes, toast, and two poached eggs. The trout was excellently cooked, as were the eggs. I've never had a trout for breakfast, but I certainly will the next time I'm in Vail and they're in season. What a treat! The Bloody Mary was also fantastic, the perfect compliment with my breakfast. My friend had a short stack of blueberry pancakes with two scrambled eggs (more like 4), toast, and some sausages. The service was really great, super friendly, and fast. We both left full and happy. You'll have Yelp to thank for this one -- it does seem like a local spot and some locals would probably want to keep it that way. If you're looking for a decent meal at a reasonable price this place is not it. First off, please see the attached pics. Does this look like a Patty Melt burger to any other American in this country?! Even the menu says it will have rye bread. Not at route 6 - white bread all day everyday. The burger was over cooked and lacked any flavor whatsoever. Onto the crab cakes. Seafood in the mountains was a questionable choice, I know this. Again another failure. Save your money and eat elsewhere. Oh and their packaging is stupid. How moronic must you be to put a wet and dry food together? My meatloaf was so grossly overcooked, that 25% of it was just a dry chunk of inedible meat. The chicken pot pie was just a stew with dinner rolls underneath and on top of it. Not a pie crust at all. Beer menu was very limited, which was odd since it seemed to have a full service bar and the menu and location would normally offer a more extensive choice of beers.
