Shrimp Etouffee, the rich and savory sauce, rice, grilled shrimp, vegetables, and arugula.

Another date-night experience. My wife and I have a number of hometown favorite places to eat with friends and family. My wife also has a little phrase she likes to use on Friday mornings as we wrap up a busy week of work, family, home projects, and other commitments. She will inevitably turn to me, smile, and say, "Where are you taking me for dinner tonight?" Sometimes we enjoy returning to those familiar places where you can always count on a good meal, attentive service, and a comfortable setting. But this Friday, I was thinking, maybe not. How about a place with a menu that was a little unique to the Southern California community, but not necessarily international fare? That's when I came across Roux Seafood Kitchen. I always check the interior and exterior photos before trying a new restaurant because my wife notices things that I would never even think about or care about. For example, she immediately noticed the oyster shells as we walked to the door and the double glass doors as we left the restaurant. Both earned her seal of approval. The dining room and bar area were orderly, classy, and appeared clean and polished. This place was going to make the grade. I made reservations through the website's chat feature and received a prompt response, so we were set for the evening. We were greeted warmly at the door and escorted to a table with a "Reserved" sign on it. A corner booth by the window--perfect. The service was attentive throughout the evening. At least four different servers stopped by to check on us during the meal, and whenever we requested something, it arrived quickly. Every member of the staff was pleasant, engaging, and personable. As many other reviewers have noted, there are similarities to New Orleans-style cuisine. We, too, were reminded of the flavors and Cajun-inspired epicurean dining experiences we've enjoyed in the past. We topped off the evening with warm, sweet beignets covered in powdered sugar. It was a wonderful dinner and a pleasant evening, with just a little taste of Bourbon Street on Beach Boulevard.

Do you crave a beautiful night out with your person? Do you crave a tempting menu with all your favorites and more? Do you deserve friendly attentive service and a comfortable and stylish room? If so, you will enjoy your night out at Roux! We got there early on Friday night. We are seniors! We were quickly seated and served water and menus. The menu is thrilling with all your Cajun favs (poor boy sandos!), we chose the shrimp etouffee, the lobster bisque and the fried oysters. If you prefer beef they have a tempting selection of steaks including a legendary tomahawk rib eye! Our Heinekens were $6 a bottle. The parking is free and easy! They have beignets for dessert! You will like this place, I promise!

My go-to Cajun restaurant in OC. On par w with some of the best I've had in Nola. Great seafood boil, fantastic beignets (evocative of the biegnets I've had at Loretta's in NOLA), and fantastic entrees. Very reasonable pricing. Dropped in on a Friday for the salmon blanc, perfectly cooked salmon with a luxurious white sauce and a crust to die for. Cannot recommend roux seafood enough.

Came here with no reservations on a Saturday evening at around 6 PM. The place was packed particularly because the banquet room was rented out so they had a busy evening. We got the ribeye with the one side. I chose the garlic noodle. He chose the potato. The garlic noodle was just OK. I probably won't order this again. But the red potato was excellent! That was the big nice appetizer of the meal. The ribeye was great, good flavor and came out on a hot sizzling plate. The decor is decorated similarly to New Orleans and gives you that comforting feel. The weight staff is really friendly and does their best. I always appreciate coming here.

Love love the price and the dishes we ordered. The server is always smiling and polite. He is also very tentive to out table. We went to Roux 2-3 times in the past months. Our usual orders are whole grilled squid , Mardi Gras pasta, shrimp and grits (extra hot), salmon with doy glazed and salmon with lemon garlic. The salmon comes with crispy skin and the both flavors are good. I love my shrimp and Grits extra temperature hot (and they did make it hot as be requested) love it. The squid is charred and grilled to perfection with or without dipping into the sauce. However, it did take a while to get our food, but the food always came out fresh and hot. We did not mind waiting for the fresh dishes right out the stoves. Did I say the price is very reasonable?? That is why with the price, the size, and the freshness of the dishes have us keep coming back. Love it!! Oh, I just learned if you pay cash, I think there is additional 5% off.

Came with my boyfriend's family for a dinner night. We made a reservation, but there was a good amount of seating when we came. I'd definitely make one in the case that more people start coming in! I got the Garlic Noodles with Ribeye Steak (Medium Rare). The steak was tender and well seasoned, but lots of fatty pieces were in there. Paired with the garlic noodles, it was great! You really can't mess up good noodles and steak. I also tried the Shrimp and Hot Sausage, but the sausage was dry. Definitely would stick to the steak. Prior to our meal, we also got the Fried Calamari that was addicting and crispy! Our server was incredibly attentive and quick. He also memorized our big order without writing it down! Props to him!!

The atmosphere is cozy, the restaurant is small but very elegant, clean and neat. Food is so delicious. If you love seafood and steak, and want to have them at the same time, this would be the good choice! Service is good too. Servers here are really fast and care the guests so well. Definitely one of my fav places

Nice little spot, their clam chowder was really good, not the best but I would order again. Their gumbo was average to me, could be better imo. I also had there salmon fish which I thought was pretty damn good, just wish the portion size was a little bigger. Service was a little slow imo but it was kinda busy so I can let it slide. I would come back here.

I had the BEST experience at Roux Seafood Kitchen! I've been here twice now and I already know I'll be coming back again and again. First off, the food is incredible: * I ordered the Mardi Gras Pasta (shrimp, andouille sausage, chicken, mushrooms in a marinara cream sauce) and it was SO flavorful, rich, and perfectly balanced * I also tried the Pernod Shrimp Pasta, which was lighter but still packed with flavor from the garlic, basil, white wine, and tomatoes * I also got to try some of my friend's seafood boil and it was delicious! Super flavorful without being overwhelming, which I really appreciated * I have to talk about the beignets... because WOW! They were better than Disneyland's (lol). Perfectly soft, warm, and just chef's kiss You can really tell everything is made fresh and with care. Portions were super filling and the presentation was honestly gorgeous! We had a group of 12 people and we booked their special events room and it was SUCH a fun experience. It had karaoke, TVs, a pool table, and a super cute backdrop! It was perfect for a group hangout or celebration. What made the night even more special was celebrating my birthday there! The team surprised me with a dessert (ice cream with fried bananas!) which was such a sweet and memorable touch. The vibe and ambiance overall was amazing! I'd 100% recommend this place for a group dinner or romantic date night to have your boyfriend peel your shrimps for you LOL. Service was outstanding, especially considering how busy it was. Huge shoutout to Christian, Nathan, Nathan, and Christine for taking such great care of our big group. They were all so friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Yes, the wait was a bit longer since it was a busy night, but honestly the quality of the food and service made it completely worth it. You can really feel the love behind this place being family-owned, and it shows in both the food and the service! If you're looking for amazing and authentic cajun food, a beautiful atmosphere, and a place that truly takes care of you, Roux is the way!

This place is a MUST try. Best Alfredo sauce I've ever tried. Lobster bisque is also my favorite to go. This place is amazing for a date night and service is always super friendly and quick. Main thing I love is the amazing pricing for lobsters. Coming back later!

Chilean Sea Bass with Creamy Lemon White Wine / Olive Oil Lemon Garlic / Soy Glazed Pan Seared / Caper / Large Grilled shrimp

This is a hidden gem. Looks very nondescript from the outside. Inside is quite charming. Service was excellent. (Special shout out to Chris for being so kind and friendly.) Food overall was tasty. (4.4/5) Appetizer: Spinach and artichoke dip Would have liked the dish to be a bit warmer. Also having the cheese more integrated into the mixture would have been nice. But it was still enjoyable. Appetizer: veggie eggrolls They were fried well. Not greasy and not dripping with oil. The vegetables were well flavored and received a serving of four. Entree: Chilean Sea Bass with Creamy Lemon White Wine sauce paired with mixed veggies. The Seabass came pan seared. It had a really tasty rich flavor. Buttery smooth texture and perfectly seasoned. It came with two large grilled shrimps and the vegetables were broccoli, carrots, and cabbage. I only wish the portion size was larger. Dessert: fried banana with vanilla ice cream This was a perfect end to the dinner. Semi sweet with a light dusting of powdered sugar paired with ice cream. Random note: the outside is decorated with oyster shells. I guess after they've been used, they clean them and chuck them outside!

Service was good and there's a decent amount of seating inside with cute little marine themed decor. Lobster roll combo with the soup ($32) - I got the Maine style (cold) lobster roll which had really good flavor and the amount of lobster was really nice. I wish they pushed the lobster down into the roll a little more instead of stacking it on top to make it look fuller because it made it a lot harder to eat. The side salad was okay. I liked the clam chowder a lot. Fries and tater tots were perfectly crispy! Flaming hot lobster fries ($25): This feels a bit overpriced for what it is and kind of lackluster. Fries were good and crispy but the cheese wasn't melted well. Lobster is thrown on there and I think it would be better with cheeto dust versus the random cheetos thrown on top. Fish tacos ($15): You get three tacos which is decent pricing. The fish was crispy and flavor is basic but good. All in all, a good spot to get your lobster roll fix without having to drive too far!

I wasn't able to eat too quickly because of that and my noodles were pretty soggy. They give you a LOT of noodles so two people could definitely share a Hot Stone Pot. The meat is very good but the only redeeming quality about the Pho because the soup was super bland and watery. I basically break down pho to 3 components: Noodles, broth and veggies. 1) The staff member here asked me if I wanted flat or regular noodles which seems obvious to some - but a lot of people don't know pho can come in an optional noodle shape! And I actually like the flat noodle better! 2) Broth. This stone pot special comes out PIPING HOT. You know the feeling when your noodles and meat come out separately and you ask yourself, is this going to cook before my broth is cold? No worries here. My steaming hot pho was hot hot hot till the last bite. And the broth itself had a really clean flavor profile. Pretty refreshing and different from what I've had! Had a really beefy umami flavor that was accompanied by the welcome temperature consistency. 3) Veggies. They keep it simple here with the selection, but again, the service was awesome. He asked if he could refill the veggies for us and the limes here are on point! Surprisingly hard to find juicy limes with the flavor to set you off on your pho adventure. The veggies were fresh and it's a nice touch to cook the sprouts so you don't end up with undercooked sprouts which tend to be bitter at times. Really chill spot. Nice calm EDM. Good meal to warm you up! And nice wide parking lot.

With tax ($17.71), our ticket was $209.16 before gratuity. The NOLA Grilled Oysters come sizzling on a hot griddle, with four different fillings, four pieces each, for a total of 16 oysters. The price might seem a bit indulgent, but not if you consider the effort and ingredients that go into this presentation. Each type was flavorful, and there wasn't a single one I didn't enjoy. The salted fish fried rice was an interesting experience. I enjoyed the dish, though the salted fish was less salty than I expected. Someone in our group, who usually doesn't like salted fish fried rice because they find it too salty, actually liked this version for its milder flavor. The plate also includes four large shrimp. The shaken beef was tasty and tender; the garlic noodles were al dente and had just enough garlic--not excessive. The sautéed garlic added a smoky, nutty taste to the bok choy. The quail was marinated well and tasted good--but I wonder if it was fried just a bit too long. After this meal, I chatted with a friend who lives in the community. He'd been to this spot before but dismissed it as just another seafood boil joint. After our conversation, though, he said he'd be willing to give it another shot. I guess your impression of this restaurant depends, at least in part, on what you order. The service, by the way, was excellent. 5-Star Review: Shuck Oyster Bar in Costa Mesa - Absolutely Outstanding Seafood Experience!…read moreI recently visited Shuck Oyster Bar in Costa Mesa (located at 3313 Hyland Ave suite C 21), and wow - it exceeded every expectation! If you're a seafood lover, especially oysters or creative tacos, this place is a must-try. We started with the oysters from Washington - a beautiful variety platter of four different types. Each one was fresher and more incredible than the last, with that perfect briny pop and clean finish. They were absolutely amazing and easily some of the best I've ever had. Then came the tacos, and they stole the show. The lobster tacos were out of this world - on a completely different level! Tender, flavorful lobster with perfect seasoning and toppings that made every bite pure bliss. The fish tacos were excellent - fresh, crispy, and perfectly balanced. And don't sleep on the shrimp tacos either; they were delicious and rounded out an epic trio. The calamari was some of the best I've ever tasted - light, crispy, and not greasy at all. We also got the lobster roll, which was again on another level - generous portions of sweet lobster in a buttery roll that was just heavenly. To top it off, the fish and chips were spot-on: crispy batter, flaky fish, and that classic satisfaction. A great touch was the cucumber-infused water - so refreshing and a nice thoughtful detail. The atmosphere is fantastic: chill vibe, not too noisy, and since we went before noon, it wasn't busy at all - perfect for a relaxed meal. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall, Shuck Oyster Bar is now one of my absolute number-one go-to spots in Orange County. I can't wait to come back - probably very soon! If you love oysters, fresh seafood, or just great food in a cool setting, you've gotta try this place. Highly recommend to friends, family, and anyone who appreciates quality seafood. 10/10 - we'll be regulars!

First time visitor Opening parking lot…read more Location can be seen from parking lot but there are 2 entrances Primarily indoor dining and few outdoor spots Reservations seems to be a preference as everyone entering asked if they had a reservation but walk in we're still accommodated Happy hour weekly specials that inside oysters clams and and drinks Bar sitting and some table sitting available as everything is more on the compact side It can get very noisy but everyone was having a upbeat good time 2 flat screens for sports Food wise a little of everything was available from shareable, seafood style dishes like tacos and uni pasta and lobster linguini, along with burgers and sliders both fish and chicken Shucking of oysters or clams is visible at bar top and it would appear the place got busy real quick but was short handed as the servers were doing a bit of everything but also took time to notice patrons were looking for assistance and grabbing orders to run. Also very much chatting with each other and even when making eye contact with servers for assistance was ignored. Food wise order the dozen oyster chef choice, grill cheese, chowder fries, ahi and lobster taco Dozen oyster there were 3 types all on the brinier side with the final ones more brinier than others and accompany with ginger 2 types of chili sauce and pickle red onion Chowder fries a bit on the salty side with some bites but had a nice chowder and fries ratio With little heat from the Fresno chili that were garnished Tacos were served with in a blue corn tortilla, for $6 each on the smaller side like a street taco and flavors wise pretty basic, didn't stand out very much Grill cheese with 4 pieces very buttery toast nice crunch and gooey melty cheeses Overall pretty decent food but wasn't impress with the service and though short handed, there wasn't a sense of urgency to assist, minimal acknowledgment, and wasn't checked back on after food was dropped off as others were being asked around us Also noticed in their food kitchen window as dishes were waiting to be picked up there was a plate of burger and fries and someone from the kitchen twice with barehand taking bunches of fries from a already prepare plate to be delivered. Seemed very odd. Unsure if would return to this establishment.
