Heard they have the best lobster roll in the nation so of course, the little food critic that I am had to come check this place out for myself. They give you the option of either a 4oz or 6oz, priced at $34 and $49. It's a Connecticut style roll made with buttered lobster on a toasted brioche bun. It also comes with a side of fries and you can choose your choice of seasoning, "Chef's way" or "Maine style." The roll is pretty expensive but honestly worth it in my opinion because of how much lobster they pack into it. The brioche bread was perfectly toasted. The lobster was fresh and buttery without making the bread soggy, even after pouring extra melted butter on top. This is definitely the best lobster roll I've had. read more

The manager is very, very rude. I asked him very nicely if he could turn on baseball on one of many the TVs they have, and he gave me some attitude and didn't do it. Also, he was extremely rude to my father when he was trying to pay via InKind. He claimed that they were not using InKind anymore and couldn't take our InKind payment, even though they were still on the app. The reason why we went here was to use our InKind benefits, which were available here according to InKind. He then claimed that it was my father's responsibility to contact InKind about this issue and that it was our problem??? No accountability at all from the manager. Grow up. The food is pretty good. Well I really wanted to give this place more stars but I can't at least based on what we ordered. First the positives; great service and a super clean vibe of a restaurant. We showed up with no reservation and were able to be seated right away. There is lots of staff on hand and they are attentive. The food was meh, my daughter ordered the seafood risotto it was a bit under done, but with that said it was loaded with seafood and the flavor was good. I ordered the fish and chips, the chips were good but the fish I was surprised was way fishy....now I know it's "fish" but that's not the point I shouldn't be hit with that "wow this is fishy" thought on the 1st bite. My foodie adventures friend was hankering for a lobster roll, so we decided to take a drive down to Hook & Anchor to try theirs. Hook & Anchor is nestled in a long shopping strip right along Newport Blvd. There is a nice outside dining area with both bar seating along the wall and a few tables. The inside is medium sized with mostly booths and free standing tables, but there's also a bar (for cocktails or oysters) as well as counter seating that overlooks the patio. The whole space has a cozy and inviting feel to it. Since we arrived just after opening, we were greeted and seated right away. I believe for busier hours, they do take reservations. My friend did indeed order the small lobster roll (listed on the menu as "market price") which comes with a side of fries. She did enjoy her sandwich, doused in melted butter (yum!!), but felt that there was a little too much bread. There were so many delicious thins on the menu, but I went with a lobster taco, a fried shrimp taco, and a side of sautéed seasonal veggies. Portions for all 3 things were perfect. The veggies were fresh and perfectly sautéed. The tacos were generously filled and the first bites required both hands to keep the filling from tumbling out of the corn tortilla. The lobster taco was my favorite: the lobster was sweet, succulent, and perfectly prepared. I've tried many lobster rolls during my trip to Maine and I can say the lobster rolls at Hook & Anchor is on par with and better than most lobster rolls I've had in Maine. The lobster rolls is definitely a must order!! It is so good!! worth every penny. I love that the lobster rolls come out hot, the lobsters are cooked in butter and season to perfection. The brioche bun is nicely toasted on both side with a nice pillowy center. The lobster rolled is served with the same butter that it is cooked in, and comes with season fries. Wow! I pass by this place all the time and was craving a lobster roll... and to take myself out on a date! I have no words to describe how delicious this buttery brioche lobster was!!! Cannot say enough good things about this location! Came in and sat at a bar and had an absolutely phenomenal bartender. I got one of their seasonal cocktails, which was really good. My boyfriend and I shared their lobster fries and I was a very big fan of the sauce that came with it. I got a burger and he got a lobster roll. We split everything in a half and everything was made very well. The manager came out and checked on us quite frequently to make sure everything was up to our standards. They have a 4 and 6 ounce option. 10/10 The calamari frites were probably the standout of the night outside of the lobster rolls. For the price, these might be the best value on the menu. Having been to the one in Dana Point and been impressed by their crab cakes, my husband ordered the crab cake Benedict, which came with potatoes. The crab cakes were just as good as we remembered - full of crab and little filler. Less successful was the grilled fish burrito. It had a lot of rice, which made it kind of bland. My husband decided to go with the lobster roll while I chose the fish & chips with an extra taco to try. So much thought honestly my tummy hadn't eaten such a combination of foods like this in a bit so the oil was too much for me at first, and then when I came back for seconds, I loved it again. The Mac & cheese.... I am still currently thinking about. The spiral of the noodles were perfect for this dish and there was a good amount of lobster in it! I recently had FEH fish somewhere else, so I started fishing around town for good seafood. I didn't wanna be be a schnook with rancor. I went to H & A with an open mind and empty stomach. This is a culinary safe harbor that harbors very good food, more than fairly priced and an inviting atmosphere. It's as comfortable as a seafarer's boarding house. Parking offers plenty of slips to dock your dinghy. Go in and be greeted by a monumental Dolphin Sculpture tail walking on a wave plus a genuine warm smile from the hostess. Schools of fish adorn the walls. There is a a long bar, a raw bar, and a no holds barred menu. Black tuck and roll booths are roomy and comfy. There are ample 2 to 6 tops which offer lot's of room to over order. While it is a kind of a fast food casual concept, feel free to linger. Order and the kitchen snaps to and delivers something tasty in a blink. There is a full Bar, a Happy Hour with happy diners. The Staff: Abbey was great. Pleasant, helpful, charming and patient. She was tableside when needed and kept a watchful eye from her station just in case. If H & A was one City over she would be Westminster Abbey. Either way, she enhanced the dining experience. The Food: If H & A is fishing for a compliment I would be happy to offer one. I decided a Bar Nibble was required. Who can say no to Calamari Fritti? The menu described Panko Encrusted Calamari Steak Strips. Panko? My heart sank, oh, it was Bread Crumbs. No matter, it held it's mini crunch even though the strips weren't crack your fillings crisp. Someone in the kitchen knew how to smack the crap out of the Steaks and make them nice and tender. Did I finish everyone? Fast as I could. The House made Tartare Sauce was a plus and added to the Squid Game. Next out of the net on the deck were the Crab Cakes. These were two generous third trimester Hockey Pucks of prime fresh Crab. They were absolutely delicious and filling without any filler. I'm definitely on board to re-order these. Now, I want to return and catch the Crabs again soon. The Newport Finest Salad. It was lovely to look at. Sorta like the Mona Lisa from 20 feet a way. It was artistically composed with small rows of razor thin Radish Coins, Persian Cucumber Coins, a tangle of fresh Greens, a pile of Halved Cherry Tomatoes all topped with a fan of ripe Avocado. Hey, I'm a fan of that. Plus, there were mounds of Poached Lobster, Cooked Shredded Crab, and 3 just pink Shrimp all arranged at the compass points. Pick a dressing which comes in a cup on the side. A mini loaf of bread with Butter Pats sounded right as a pusher/sopper/mopper too. The Salad was Louie-esque. Was it the equal of the Louie at the Sea Lion (long sunk) in Malibu? No, nothing will ever be. The Creamy Cilantro Dressing was green which is about the best thing I can say about it. The Bread was just bread. I picked at it and wished I had ordered something deep fried. The Fresh Caught Pacific Halibut was singing to me. Abbey described it as "cooked medium". I had a vision of a salty beach sandal on a plate. Did the Chef tell staff to push the Halibut before it goes all furry and Creamy Cilantro Green in the fridge? I'm a culinary risk taker. "I'll try the Halibut please". "I'm sure you'll like it," said Abbey with confidence. Boy, was that the right move. The Halibut was as good as Halibut ever gets. In fact it was as good as you'll find offered anywhere. The Halibut was flakey, translucent, and treated with care, skill and the reverence this fish deserved. Halibut isn't easy to grill. Blink and it's over cooked and dry. Not here. The Crab Cakes and the Halibut are enough of a draw to draw me back soon. Hook and Anchor is a not a prank or worse. Went for dinner with my daughter during the Super Bowl. Place wasn't crowded, but I had a reservation. Multiple televisions were on showing the game. We didn't really care about the game, but we did get to watch the halftime show. We were seated and waited on immediately. I ordered the 4-oz lobster roll with the Sriracha mayo. I had a choice of different types of fries or other codes I chose the fresh can't vegetables. My daughter ordered the poke appetizer and a cup of clam chowder. The food came quickly, and was delicious. She had iced tea and I stuck with water. We didn't have room for dessert but they sounded really good. We will definitely be going back and when we do I will try the bread pudding dessert. read more

Parking: This restaurant is located where Toast is, and although parking is limited, it was super easy to find spot when we went in the afternoon on a Sunday. Food: we ordered the fish and chips and Cioppino and they are both delicious. The fish was crisp and still juicy even it was served. Also, the Cioppino is very flavorful, with lots of ingredients, including fish, clams, mussels, and scallop. The service was fast and prompt, we will have a nice time here. Everyone here is very accommodating and attentive. Great spot for date night / family dinner. Will come back for more! read more

Lobster roll was a 'fan fave' and was as promised on a fresh baked roll with butter and sauce. The cup of clam chowder was fresh and had nice pieces of clam. The Sushi however, was clearly an experiment (someone actually came to our table without being prompted and called it a "work-in-progress" and something they do "not have a handle on yet.") It was definitely NOT done by a professionally trained sushi chef. It reminded me of the little plastic boxes of seaweed wrapped rice and veggies available in the college commons cafeteria. The pieces were very small and not tasty. Even the ginger and eel sauce did little to improve it. The chopsticks were the cheapest square cut ever too lol. Also considering the entire meal was over $100+ we were expecting more. I'd take sushi off the menu if I were the owners of this place. Our server was pleasant but our table was still wet from the hostess wiping it after we waited to be seated. One would think the tables would be already freshly cleaned and set for service upon opening from the night before. We left hungry and went to get dessert elsewhere. Quality AND quantity.. That's music to my ears. My 1st and definitely won't be my last time here. Pros: - Service was top notch. I mean I made a resy for 1PM and my parents somehow got lost on the way to the restaurant and didn't arrive until 1:30PM. From the host to the server, everyone was so attentive! - Quality was excellent. This place did not skimp out on any of the seafood. - The restaurant is not too hard to find IMO...unless you're my parents. It is located on a pretty busy street so expect traffic, but that's normal for this part of the area. Decent amount of parking with additional parking in the back of the center. - Place is a bit cramped due to close seating, but they do have large booths. Cons: - Although it's a franchise, locations are only in OC which is a bummer for me. Tip: Make a reservation in Open Table. Get the crab cake! read more

Well I was very excited that they had lobster bisque on their menu so, after working a long day at the Hoag Classic in Newport Beach I ordered take out. I got the guacamole and chips which of course was creamy and delicious but, the lobster bisque although creamy was not delicious it was just generic with a fair amount of lobster chunks. I was a little dissatisfied but that's just my tastebuds. read more
