I've had my Volvo sedan serviced by Royal Auto's Volvo Service Center since I moved to San Francisco in early 2024. They always did excellent work and were reliable, friendly, professional, and efficient. Fast forward to spring 2026 - my Volvo engine died and they came to my rescue. The service manager who worked with me was Kah-Fai Tse. I can't say enough about Kah-Fai's excellent service, his kindness, and his patience while we worked through having the car towed to the service center, having the team there evaluate what was wrong and needed, and seeing the car through to its ultimate removal from the service center when I donated it to Habitat for Humanity. Kah-Fai is awesome and the rest of the service center team was always awesome excellent as well. read more

Mazda SF Service Center (for a CX-5) AVOID this place if your car is not under warranty or if it's not being services for free. Otherwise, they charge exorbitant prices. Instead, find a local mechanic who can deal with Mazda cars for air filter replacement, coolant exchange, etc. (See the images attached) I was changed $1000 in labor charges while the cost of the products used was $500. A local mechanic might've charged me $300-$500 for all of these services including installation (lost over $1000). Who charges $200 for coolant exchange when the coolant itself is $29??? They also don't wash your car before returning as it's SF. So just avoid this place unless they are charging $0 (you'e car is under warranty) read more

Well I've been going here for over 10 years and Julio has been my trusted advisor almost the whole time. I've been looking at getting a new car but I always knew that Julio could take care of my Mazda so I didn't worry about anything. I just found out he got laid off and now I'm panicking! I could text him anything and he would tell me to just bring the car in and they would fix it. I even called him when my car wouldn't start - AAA jumped it and he had me come straight in to replace the battery. This is so upsetting. Might be time to switch to a Kia. Terrible experience. I am not one to leave reviews, but feel I have to and hope this helps someone. I leased a car from Royal Automotive Group about a month ago, it's now 4th of July weekend and the car won't start (it's not a battery issue). I called Royal automotive because everything is under warranty and I was told that I had to pay $300/day over the holiday weekend to store my car. On top of that, I am being told that they have no loaner cars to provide me. This has truly been a terrible experience and I would never do business with Royal Automotive Group again. Bryon is the best Service Director I've ever worked with, hands down. He and Mariana make an exceptional team at Royal Mazda Service. I've been buying and servicing vehicles at Royal for years, and I can confidently say the dealership is lucky to have both of them supporting customers like me. I recently brought in my Mazda CX-30 for a frustrating, hard-to-diagnose issue I'd been tracking for over a year. I had previously brought the car in without resolution, but this time, Bryon and his team went above and beyond. They ran diagnostics, checked the vehicle's software and sensor systems, and even pulled detailed logs to match the exact dates and times of the incidents I'd reported. What impressed me most was Bryon's commitment to solving the issue. He personally drove the vehicle for an extended period to try and reproduce the problem. He and the team identified a setting in the infotainment system that, once changed, resolved the issue. The difference was immediate. This was especially helpful given the steep hills in my San Francisco neighborhood. To top it off, when I found a bolt lodged in my tire on the drive home, likely from road debris during testing, he didn't hesitate to cover the cost of the repair. Bryon is a rare find: patient, thorough, personable, and absolutely committed to a great customer experience. This review goes to my service experience at SF Mazda for my Miata. Huge shout out to service Advisor Julio- he listened to all my concerns and made sure things are executed the way my car deserves. I emphasized to be very careful with the paint and he noted that down on the work order form with color pen and highlighted the statement. He understands the love I have for my car and advocated for the level of service it deserves. I wanted to make sure I get a new gasket (amongst other details) with the oil change and Julio ensured. The other advisors Randy and Jose were very friendly as well. Brad the tech was very thorough and thoughtful. I received a video of a walkthrough of the service process/ procedure and Brad provided detailed and thoughtful commentary- highlighted that things are torqued to factory recommended spec, the car was properly mounted (rocker panels not touching the mount), that I got that new gasket, just mentioning the details in each step of the service, really showing there is care. This is the type of service I expect of any car. People treating your car like it's theirs (or as close to that as possible). I recommend Royal Auto's Mazda service! read more

Took my Audi Q3 here this morning and was "helped" by Marin in the service center. I had scheduled my service online but called in advance to confirm pricing for a routine oil change. I was quoted $170, which, while high, included a five-point inspection and so I was willing to pay it to ensure my car is in good shape (it's a 2023 with low miles but I'm a conscientious driver). I did ask for a call back re: several questions I had in advance of my visit, but did not hear back from anyone. Upon arrival, I was quoted $470, not $170. When I asked about the difference, I was told I was being charged for my water drains. Huh? I was told that I was misquoted by phone and that accttuuallly, they should be charging me for a 20K check up since the car is a '23 (my car only has 10K miles). Beyond the fact that it's impossible to get a call back or a straight answer from anyone on the phone in the call center, I was now met with downright hostility in person. I explained that I was only in need of an oil change and after MUCH back and forth with probing questions on my part because yeh, I'm not a pushover, Marin confirmed that I did not actually *need* a 10K or 20K service and that as long as I had records of required oil changes, I would be "just fine" upon lease return. Er, ok, so then why did we just dance around the cost of the more comprehensive services for 20 mins? I was taking notes while we chatted and Marin demanded I show him the paper that had my notes on it. Strange behavior for sure, but he insisted it was so that he could staple it to my other paperwork. (Then he proceeded to read my notes while feigning a laborious stapling procedure.) When it came time to discuss payment, I was informed that they do NOT accept cash or check and if I chose to use a credit card there would be a 3% upcharge. Wait, what? To use a CREDIT CARD? I mean I get that cannabis dispensaries tack on a 3% charge for cards, but an Audi service center? I was told that this was a decision Andy Hansen, owner of this business, had made, and that "one person ruined it for everyone else." Whatever that means. Honestly, if I had not already taken time to cross town this morning and show up for my scheduled appointment, I probably wouldn't have left my car there. Now I'm kind of dreading going all the way back down to pick up my vehicle. This is why we can't have nice things. Sigh. read more

I have been coming here for many years with Volvos and Mazda sF. Mazda CX five now. Years ago it was just awful , chaotic. Missed delivery times , spotty diagnosis, a lot of time consuming callbacks for the same Repair I think they've made a big effort to pull this place together and it's better now, but was in with the Mazda today I called them twice in advance because I was getting a key fob replaced. Person I spoke to you on the phone was Cclear that the price would be $354. When I got there, they gave me a detailed invoice that the price was $660. I don't think there is anything malevolent going on here. The higher "probably always was the accurate one. But I really wish they would get their act together so when I speak to someone in service and parts they would give me accurate information. Just basic reliability. Decided to go to a local automotive locksmith and have it done for 350. Same OEM part, same computer programming. It seems like they're trying hard to manage better a very, very high volume location. Other thing I noticed is there is a ton of late model Mazda sF there. Just like my 2021 CX five but newer. Bought the Mazda for Japanese reliability, but it has not, emphasize not , been a reliable car and would not buy Mazda again. That's got nothing to do with the Royal service performance just with the brand itself. read more

Took my Mazda in to check the battery, get an oil change and turn off 'Service Past Due' warning. Thats it. They had it for 5 hours. They never checked the battery, they never turned off the 'Service Past Due' warning. they were going to rotate the tires - they didn't. They just charged me $250 to change the oil. Thats all they did in 5 hours. After my (terrible) experience with their VW department I was not surprised but now I'm mad. I'm really only writing this to vent. What a waste. read more

I am deeply concerned about the business ethics at this service center. My SQ5 displayed an urgent air suspension malfunction alert requiring immediate attention. I made an appointment online and brought it in promptly. Upon arrival, a senior-looking staff member informed me that their website "shouldn't be accepting appointments" as they are "only doing maintenance work". There wasn't even an apology for the website error that wasted my time. What troubled me wasn't this limitation but his complete lack of concern for my safety situation. No acknowledgment of the safety alert, no concerns about a potentially dangerous suspension issue. He clearly wanted me to leave and even smugly suggested my only alternative was leaving my car there for weeks. He provided no suggestions for alternative service centers, no advice about the safety warning, and no options for addressing my urgent situation. I am filing complaints with Audi of America, BBB, and California regulatory authorities. Potential customers deserve to know how they handle urgent safety concerns. read more

Awful. I took my car to them and they quoted me insane things being wrong with my car and I knew half wasn't correct. Thankfully I took car to a mechanic at Masonic and fell (who has worked on my car before) he repaired my car for 400 dollars when Royal Auto quoted me 6000-7000 dollars of repairs. All that needed to be changed was a fitting on my engine! Do you understand this amount of expenses for someone isn't easy and cars are expensive this can cause panic to someone. Being transparent and honest is key to having customers. Also please don't make claims you didn't check for! And base diagnostic expense is $295 please save your money and sanity!! We had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Royal Automotive Group's San Francisco Mazda service department. A pothole on Oakland's finest streets required a complete tire and wheel replacement. Because a CX-5 turbo wheel was unavailable locally, it took five days to repair the car. After driving away, we noticed the tire pressure warning light was still illuminated. Returning to the dealer, Service Advisor Marcos Garcias told us that all tires checked out OK, so he believed the sensor "needed time to adjust to the new tire." We had never heard of such a thing, and after driving 550 miles back to Las Vegas with the warning light still on, we took the CX-5 to a local dealer who replaced the sensor. So, after a $1,000-plus, five-day wheel replacement, we received totally erroneous information. This was on top of two customer-hostile policies: No car wash plus a 3% credit card surcharge. Krystina and Brad were absolutely amazing. 10 stars! I have been struggling to get the Mazda application to connect to my vehicle since it stopped working in summer of 2023. I couldn't seem to connect to the right people to help me previously. I was referred initially to my sales person who had left, then spoke with the sales manager, who provided a Mazda roadside assistance phone number and then a Mazda Experience contact center number. Initially I tried going to a closer dealership to my home but they could not resolve and said that they couldn't investigate further for liability reasons and directed me to the dealership where I purchased my car They said it's probably a subscription issue. The website says it's good for three years and we were in year 2. Once connected with the Mazda Experience Call Center I then spent several calls and multiple emails trying to follow their instructions to delete, download, and signup again under a different email address. The told me that my subscription had been canceled, but I had not requested the cancellation. They did not know why. After about a week, they determined that the vehicle was not pairing with the third party service that supported the iPhone app and referred me to the Royal Automotive Service Department. I asked for the service manager, Krystina, and she was very apologetic on the phone and extremely understanding of the challenges I had been going through so we scheduled a time the following week for me to bring in the vehicle. I really appreciated her kind demeanor and she is even friendlier in person! Since we needed my phone and the vehicle to troubleshoot, Krystina introduced me to Brad at the service bay , a very knowledgeable and experienced service technician, who was immediately able to troubleshoot the issue. Krystina and Brad made me feel special and were fully engaged with me the entire time we spent together. They were extremely professional. Within minutes Brad determined that the Sacramento dealership that had replaced a communication module during my 1st service, but had not activated that module. That's why the vehicle wasn't pairing with the application. He activated the module, performed serval software updates, which immediately resolved the issue. Krystina drove my car out to the front and was very apologetic about my situation. The appointment at Royal Automotive and resolution of my issue felt like it took less than an hour! I felt like I received the royal treatment. I want to especially thank Kirstina as she has been working with me for a bit to resolve discrepancies between instructions from the Mazda Experience Contact center and her team. I am extremely pleased with the sales and support for the Royal Automotive group. I love my CX-30 and the team that helps me keep it in tip top condition. Thank you Roger S. read more

My Audi Q4e had issues with the gear getting stuck in Park and becoming unable to shift to Drive or Reverse. I wish Audi SF could have problem-solved collaboratively, with technical curiosity, concerns for child safety, and respect for female customers -- Audi SF's service manager, Alto, and agents, Chris and Johnny, adamantly disputed my electric vehicle's safety issues as being non-existent, despite documented videos of gears malfunctioning 1-2x/wk, 25 pages of error codes, and child safety risks. This led to my car's manufacturer defect taking 2+ months and 3 service appointments to fix. Audi Burlingame discovered a pinched drain hose causing water to run down the front A inner pillar. This caused the J519 Central Electronics Module to fail. The manufacturer warranty replaced the J519 Central Electronics Module, drain hose, and front A pillar trim a couple weeks ago. The issue hasn't happened since. However, Audi SF attributed the gear malfunctions to my user error, including not fastening my seatbelt (which is definitively not required to change gears), not turning my car on, or locking my door. When releasing my car for the second time without any diagnostic clarity or repairs, Service Manager, Alto, offered to show me how to push the button that starts my car. This was the proposed solution to resolve any perceived gear malfunctions, since the team "exhausted our resources and confirmed there is nothing wrong with your car". Two other Bay Area auto shops shared Royal Auto Group's apparently notorious inability to resolve electric car issues, as customers often come to them for second opinions just as I did. I was in and out fairly quickly and I thought they listened to my additional requests and actually performed them (tire rotation, sunroof drain etc.) at I was told these were performed at no additional cost. That said, the cost for service was three times what I paid elsewhere and extremely expensive considering they didn't wash my car and the battery they told me was replaced in my fob is alerting as low. I brought my car for service since it was as shaking at low RPMs. The service consultant said that we need to do the diagnostics. After they ran the diagnostics they said that they did not know what was wrong even though they agreed that the car had a problem. After I came to pick it up they wanted to charge me $300 even though they could not find the problem. I told them I am not paying since they could not diagnose the problem. The service guy got nasty and told me that he would do any work for me again. What a jerk. I bought two cars from these people and probably gave them thousands of dollars in service. Marin has been awesome since we purchased our new Q3 in September 2024. We had an issue with a recall situation shortly after purchase which he handled expeditiously. And I just took it in for the 12 month service (oil change) which was handled with equal efficiency. There was an earlier issue with a replacement rental car through Enterprise that didn't go smoothly. But this had nothing to do with Marin. He has been excellent to deal with. read more

There's now a 3% credit card surcharge, disclosed by a small eye chart. You'll find out about it when you get to pay, but not before. Bring your debit card or cash, or round up all the prices they quote you! More importantly, I'm done with Royal because they're either dishonest or incompetent. (I've had service done at the now-closed Mazda of Oakland and Capitol Mazda in San Jose, both of whom were competent, fair, and efficient.) Back in 2017, they changed the coolant in my car at 60,000 miles and 4 years, even though the factory recommendation is 100,000 miles and 10 years. After a previous Yelp review, they refunded the charge. Well, I took the car to them in 2024, and they pushed another coolant flush because the book says that it was time, and referred me to the timing in the manual. I pointed out that the only reason it was due was because they'd actively disregarded the factory specs previously. My service advisor fetched a manager, who said "because it's our mistake, we'll change the coolant for free today." Guess what? When they inspected the coolant, it was in good condition and didn't need changing! I am not sure what the truth of the matter is here. On the one hand, they might have been pushing unnecessary services on me and hoping I didn't object. Or they could have offered to pay for the expensive service, and then decided everything was OK to avoid paying. I'm not sure which one looks better. Dealing with this shop is so painful my next car won't be a Mazda, unless I can find an independent Mazda repair shop on Yelp that I can use instead. (I give them two stars because on this most recent visit they didn't actively disregard the Mazda service recommendations, so they were clearly better than my 2017 visit.) read more

I have a great experience in Royal auto group. I bring my Audi to get service as a new customer there for the first time. The representative on the phone and everyone who works on site seems happy and nice. Marin is the one who helped me yesterday. He and everyone who works on my car is fantastic!! Too bad I can't get a loaner car while waiting. Though I am happy that I can get an appointment by just calling 2 days ahead. Marin explain my service report, send me a video and is able to help me with the fastest time for pickup. He even guide me to look for a way out from the building!! Since unable to free up the seat, we'd come into the service department for advice. Chris was very receptive to our problem, and patiently worked on the jammed lever to free up the seat. Do not buy a car from Royal motors or Audi. I bought the Audi A3 eTron in 2018. 5 years later at 36K the battery range is cut in half. Even though the the hybrid system has 100K warranty they still want to charge $300 just to look at it. Nobody can tell me what it is that they are supposed to look at. These people suck. Needed to get my mazda serviced here for a 60k service- new to the city so I decided to go to the trusty mazda dealership- NEVER AGAIN. My rear brake pads were almost end of life, they were going to charge me $600 for JUST rear brake pads??? Are you kidding me now? I felt like I was being scammed throughout the whole time. I had a tire rotation apart of the requested service. Once they checked the tires, they realize they did not need to do the actual tire rotation, but I was still charged for it since they had to take the tires off? That's BS. I very rarely get bad reviews, let alone a one star. I've never had such a bad experience at a servicing - I trusted Mazda dealerships but this one lost my trust and service. read more

Sure, I had an open recall item that needed taking care of, and I'm sure that's how they got my contact information. But I never contacted them to request an appointment, nor have I ever taken my car to Royal automotive group for service. I'm 100% sure I did not make this appointment as I was out of town during that time. Of course the standard multiple reminder emails and calls saying "if you want to cancel or reschedule, give us a call." I'm sorry I simply didn't give them the courtesy of a call. I'm busy enough already -- why should I have to take the time to fix their borderline fraudulent "mistake." I'll remember this when I go purchase a car. Shame. read more
