Easy to understand and appreciate. They expertly tackled a dry rot nightmare on the back of our house - a nightmare which we though had been remedied by another contractor years ago. Turns out that contractor made matter worse. Antone and crew were able to identify the sources of water intrusion - roof, gutter, a rotted window, wood siding, you name it. It took some time chasing down the dry rot, but the end result is that this side of the house looks as good as the time of original construction. The crew was punctual, neat and tidy, coordinated well with other trades, and they were fair in their pricing. All in all, a solid performance. We tried to hire this company to handle our Oakland sidewalk certification. They told us the…read moresidewalk was in good condition and did not require any repairs. Over several months, roughly a dozen calls and texts went unanswered while we tried to get them to file the paperwork. Eventually, we were told the paperwork had been submitted to the City of Oakland and that the response time was 1-3 weeks. Months later, I contacted the city directly. They had no record of any filing. At that point, we hired someone else. We obtained two additional quotes, and both contractors said the sidewalk did require minor repairs. We moved forward with one of them. They also told us city responses for this type of submission are typically 2-3 days, not multiple weeks. Because of the delays and misinformation, we missed the six-month compliance window for the sidewalk certification and may now be facing penalties. Not to mention the unexpected repair costs. The money is frustrating. The lack of communication and follow-through was worse.

The industry seems to be full of people who can not arrive at meetings on time, can not respond in a prompt manner, and who often don't seem very competent. Mueller Nicholls is the opposite; responsive, prompt, and exceptionally competent. Mueller Nichols were not the cheapest bid - but when you consider that they do exceptionally high quality work, and deliver on-time and on-budget you realize that you get what you pay for. We used them for design, and Michael is excellent. Within a week we had made more progress with him than we had with our architect in 9 months. All in all, our team of Michael, Jason, and George were excellent (as well as the others who worked on the project and the subs).

TechLine completed a project for us in Palo Alto in Aug-Nov 2024 and they did a great job. We were…read morelooking to replace all the windows (new construction with breaking stucco on outside and lath and plaster on inside, installing windows, closing walls and reinstalling trim), insulate all exterior walls from the inside, replace old knob and tube wiring, replace the roof, and paint inside and out in our 1930 house. Their bid was on the low side compared to the "Palo Alto prices" that I received from some of the other contractors. Some contractors come in with arrogance and cologne and give you imprecise estimates or "maybe if you are lucky we will work with you" attitudes, or get mad when you ask for details on their quotes. Lorena and Ben were friendly and answered my questions with patience, and seemed trustworthy. They didn't have a long history or local references, so I did want to check references, which checked out great. Contracting was easy. We changed a few window sizes so needed architectural signoff for our permit. If there was one weakness it was this process as their designer made some measurement errors that slowed us down - but we did get the drawings done and the permit issued (and they do have other designers they work with). Once the permit was issued and building started, TechLine went to town with A+ performance and attitude. They were very competent, showed up every single day, worked fast, and were respectful and friendly with all questions and unexpected things that came up. I tried to visit the house every day or two to make sure things were as I wanted, and TechLine was fine with this. It helped move the project along and answer any questions quickly as they came up. I am thankful they were gracious about this oversight because I could see some contractors feeling cramped with this approach. For me, it really ensured the project turned out how I wanted it. We added to the project as we went when we saw opportunities, and they were always reasonable in their pricing and fast to execute. The end result is fantastic - the house is airtight, the finishes are just what I wanted, and we're very happy with it. Re: timing, we had to move out and were worried about doing construction during the rainy season, so we wanted it done fast. The whole project was done in 3 months as promised, even though we added to the scope as we went. My neighbors were amazed by how fast it went, and one neighbor subsequently hired them for a project. I did hire a separately licensed electrician to do the rewiring, which I was not so satisfied with, and probably should have had TechLine do the electrical too. Overall, I highly recommend TechLine. Thanks to Lorena, Ben and Jose and team for helping us make our house so much nicer. I would definitely hire them again.

Izet and his crew helped me remodel my kitchen in late 2020 which was an absolute godsend at the…read moretime as our old kitchen was incredibly dated and we were stuck at home so much during those times. He and his crew took my renderings of the kitchen layout + cabinet selection and turned them into reality. From demo to reconstruction, he gracefully handled the mid-project change of moving the location of the stove & re-routing the gas + alerting the plumbing for the sink to be in it's place, as well as some hurdles with inspectors & the electrician. The kitchen looks amazing and has served us well for the last 4 years until more recently when floor tiles started to crack and pop off. My house is built on clay, and every winter the building experiences some above-average movement, however tiles aren't coming off in other parts of the building... Upon investigation, of a single tile and consulting with some tile pros it appeared that the tiles had been laid incorrectly the first time. I called up Izet and he came out to see the situation. Upon seeing it he immediately offered to redo the kitchen floor, from subfloor to tiles if I would provide the replacement tiles. We agreed and his crew redid the work a few weeks later. The city inspectors were brutally picky and it took extra steps to get approval and I'm just glad these guys were patient and knew what to do. I'm in condo with tight rules and they handle it with grace. They've minimized dust and disturbance, kept me updated, quick clear communications, etc. We're only half way through, but I've been so impressed I had to write this and will post pics and a follow up on completion.
