3 stars only because there is a Walmart here, plus a Save-On Food. This is a sad mall with limited tenants. There are several stores which are available for lease. I used to like this mall back in the 1990s when it was more vibrant than now. Like what some Yelpers reviewed, you do see many seniors in this mall, with walkers, canes and wheelchairs.Maybe New Westminster has a higher senior demographic now. In any case, the saving grace for this mall is truly Walmart and Save-On Food. Ardene outlet store with its deep discount of up to 70% off is also a draw. The food court is also sad, you are better off dining outside. The upper level seemed to be mostly medical clinics. I hope there will be more interesting tenants setting up shop here in the future. For now, I come here mostly for Walmart. read more

When I first-discovered this Centre it was actually quite vibrant, at least on the ground level floor, with a wall-to-wall rather decent selection of stores, shops, and food court. An axe seemed to fall a couple of years ago, when Zellers, and many other offerings left, and the selection of 'what' remained really collapsed. I have definitely noted some shopping improvements since then, especially with additions of Wal-Mart (occupying the vacated Zeller's space), the large Shopper's Drug and Dollarama stores, and the Save On Foods supermarket coming in to occupy a more recent departure, and thankfully, the continued presence of Kin's Farm Market. For me though, the Centre has basically become an out-of-the-weather place to go for a walk and browse when in the area, and possibly catch a breakfast sandwich or burger at A&W in the Food Court, or couple of fresh bananas at Kin's, to enjoy during my walkabout. It's definitely not one of my places to do any serious shopping -- a couple of the "feature attractions", because of their inflated prices (imo), do not catch my shopping attention when they are located 'anywhere', and Wal-Mart's morning opening time is too late for my personal shopping convenience. It's nice to see 'West Coast Medical Imaging' located on the upper floor. I have used one their facilities elsewhere, and have always respected the quality of service I mI provided. I miss too much of what Royal City Centre used to have and offer, to rate it any higher in its present state. read more

This is where all the senior shops. So walked in and have to say its a sad sad mall. Food court is where all the senior sits. Nope they are not sitting there to eat at the food court. They are there to catch up with their senior friends. There are three big stores here. Walmart, Save-On and Shoppers. Stores here are very quiet. Upstairs has nothing to see. Two floor malls. I came here awhile back with the explicit purpose of trying out Russian Spoon Bakery in the food court, which definitely did not fall to deliver! That said, outside of that food adventure, there's not a whole lot else going on with this mall. It appears that the whole second floor is devoted to a variety of medical offices and the ground floor has a lot of vacancies. It feels like going back to a time where people said hi to their neighbour and moved out of your way and said sorry and excuse me. a time where people would go to the mall with friends. there's more options than many of these older malls, the interior has lots of a period specific blue but it compliments all of the windows and skylights. The food court reminds me of my childhood, there's a couple family owned businesses/restaurants. The dollarama and produce markets are staples of an era long passed. It's no CF centre but it has a quaint feel and architecture that just doesn't exist anymore. read more

A simple, local mall with friendly staff -- or so I thought. I lost my phone and wallet there, and no one would lend me a phone or help or put themselves out in any way. I went to medical offices, the bank, large and small stores. Only one person, very grudgingly, looked up a phone number for me, but refused to even call security to help me out. Several other stores refused to call security as well, or said they did not know where it is. I went upstairs to administration -- and was refused all help also! Too busy to even say "I can't help you now, but wait a few minutes". And then she locked the door in my face! And then finally I found some help from a young woman whose employer I won't mention, since her manager refused to even dial a number on a land line for me. She came back with important information for me which I think she had to use her own phone to get. So thanks for NOTHING, Royal City. I eventually found my phone and wallet, and also found your staff rude and/or badly trained and apathetic, save for one person. I hope she finds a better job, far away from you. Royal City Centre is a dying mall, and one can see why. read more

I don't know what mall these other "reviewers" went to but didn't sound like RCC. Yes it is small with limited stores but it has major stores like Walmart and Save On Foods. There is Shoppers and Kins Farm Market. I will admit the food court is hit and miss but it's a good court, not a Yaletown 5 star. As for the seniors, I am so sorry that the sight of seniors is so upsetting. Maybe some of you would prefer they just stay in their apartments. It's called socializing. So overall the mall is really drab. Not a lot of reason to come here. But the notable thing that keeps me away? Someone I know was assaulted here. She was struck by an agressive senior because she was trying to get him away from her. He was being verbally abusive. When she tried to get him to stop? He hit her right in front of her child. Mall staff decided she was the troublemaker. Why? Because she had a natural reaction to getting hit and yelled at him! He must be innocent because he's old, right? The mall manager decided to be extra disgusting and "banned" her. Nothing was done to this guy who literally picked a fight with her. This is NOT a safe space. You can be verbally and physically assaulted right in front of your kids and your assailant will have no consequences. Apparently being a senior citizen is a get out of jail free card. read more

The most depressing mall I have ever been to. The company I work for had an office on the second floor for a few years so I became very familiar with this mall. I do not understand how they continue to keep the place open. There are three "anchor" stores in the mall which somehow manage to keep it going. There is a Shoppers Drug Market, a Safeway and a Whitespot. There is very little of anything in the mall and a terrible food court. Many years ago this mall was a very different place. I believe that it is in a good location so if they were able to attract a few more "anchor" stores to draw people in it might change. If New Westminster is the capital of weird malls and shopping centres, Royal City Centre is the crown jewel. It has a few decent stores - a Purdy's, Shoppers Drug Mart, Kin's Farm Market, and Cob's Bread - but also a collection of generic off-price fashion outlets and dollar stores. It has a second floor which is completely empty - all the store spaces have blue-green paper on the windows. (UPDATE: there are offices up there now, behind shaded windows. Still feels empty, though.) The place is a magnet for the area's elderly, however. On foot, on walker, and on scooters, they come in droves to hang out in the food fair and to sit by the 6th Street entrance watching the Keno board at the lotto stand. The weirdest element is the presence of an office marked "Consulate of Jamaica" - down a hallway, directly across from the ladies room. I come here if I need something, but it's guaranteed to be a quick trip. This mall freaks me out. read more

Has potential but far from being great... this mall if we can even call it that is pretty "ghetto" and yes I still find myself here from time to time, because of Dollarama and BMO bank. A lot of empty shops, odd stores with nicknacks that you wonder how they stay open. They do have a Shoppers Drug Mart, a White Spot restaurant, Purdeys, and Dollarama. I have to clear up a few things about previous reviews. While yes the mall should get better food I fully agree for I work there and it's hard to find something to eat sometimes. But Shoppers Drug Mart in the mall is not nor has it EVER been a 24-hour drug mart it is only open 12 hours. And the up stairs is even more full then the downstairs. Upstairs is full of offices I not sure what allot are but one is a family eye care place. read more

All this mall needs is a tomb stone ! Too finish it off. With the addition of Walmart it will Finnish off the poor pathetic stores that are in this mall. The dollar store Save-On are the only 2 stores worth shopping at. If you drive anything larger than a smrt car, enjoy navigating the worst car park ever designed ! The most bizarre mall that I have ever set foot in. I saw a REALLY random mix of people here and a random mix of stores. I saw a Shoppers, a Purdys, some rip-off jersey shop, a cell-phone store, Ardene, and some other obscure shops which makes you wonder how they stay open because they seem to have no business (*the rent must be cheap?). The little knickknack store run by the senior is pretty darn cute though. I had a surprisingly good matcha latte, at that coffee place...I don't remember the name as I was so perplexed by the surroundings.. read more

When the guy I am dating used to live in New West I used to come here if I was early to either stay cool, stay warm or browse for no reason. I didn't actually do any major shopping other than some Save on Foods before going home. It's actually a few sad mall for other small stores aside from Save On. I came here for the Purdy's for candy but that was my few incentives for coming here. The Kin's Market doesn't even have their discount bin. The good news is that there is a dollar store! This is actually a very old mall but there has been renovations. I remember going here for Woodwards. Woodwards was where my eye doctor worked. Don't laugh. There aren't a lot of stores and none of the stores are what I called high-end, but it seems the most popular stores are gear towards the many senior citizens who live in this neighbourhood. The whole mall seemed to be for the Zellers crowd. I wish they still had Woodwards. Woodwards beats Zellers hands down. In short, a real mall with a mom and pop feel to it. You won't find young, hip, and cool being hanging out here but at least people who shop here are genuine. read more

A great laid back vibe mall in comparison to Metrotown, which is crowded, loud, full of pushy materialistic snobby therapy shoppers, and it's retail workers feeding that attitude. "Buy what you need" caters to a mature in mind, sensible, and anti-ageism demographic. It has retail stores in place to match daily necessities, along with a whole upstairs floor filled with medical offices. Also, the mall is next to a main uptown street, which provides tons of food options, all walking accessible. It's always clean, the workers are polite and helpful, there is plenty of parking, and the mall closes during regular works hours, which is the fair thing to do for it's workers. Also, I just heard there is a Winners store opening in October, so pretty excited about that :) read more

The "emergency exits" aren't. They take you down a stairwell, but leave you behind another locked door. Terrifying and wrong. This is not an exit. Luckily I was rescued in a few minutes, despite it being 8 a.m. just as Shoppers was opening. Be prepared to scream loud and hammer on the doors. Or better yet, don't believe it when it says "exit." How utterly stupid this lack of easy exits for pedestrians is! The mall itself is constantly changing - now Save-On instead of Safeway (with the same staff) and going to have a WalMart soon. read more

I don't want to shop here and avoid it as much as possible. Unfortunately, we had to go there today. We tried to change from one floor level to the next using a set of stairs but we got locked in. The only way out was through a red door, unmarked, that led into the back street (Princess). Unfortunately, the mall hasn't specially signed the red door as the exit. There is no signage on it at all. Furthermore, I stepped through the door and straight down - there is a step down as I went outside! How about a sign on the inside to say that there is an abrupt change and watch your step? I am glad I didn't twist or break my ankle, the change in flooring was such a surprise. Once a year, the local newspaper does a rating of the different businesses and this mall always wins for being the best mall in New West. Is it because it is the only mall in New West? It really is pathetic. They also have the nerve to go after people who park in the mall and go across the street to the library or other shops. While normally that is understandable, it isn't as though they are packed to the gills, with stores, customers or cars. They should be happy anybody even comes into this dump. read more

This is an old mall.... but I have just noticed last week that Arby's has been replaced by Amar's Indian feast..... I have been there twice in last week... awsome service and very good food... I would say best indian food I ever had in a fast food indian place. This place rocks. read more

It is good mall overall, but look at the hours they work. Until 9.30 on Thursday, but 5.00 on Sundays. Why? They have dollarama and pretty cheap food court, which I really like, but sometimes it a problem the go inside because of the time lol. read more

I originally went in to get a phone through Fido and Koodo now has a kiosk there. I dont know when they opened but I got a $100 mastercard giftcard for signing up and my plan is less than fido! At least its good to see new places opening up in the mall. read more

Wow. I was surprised to read the ONLY comment about Royal City Centre Mall. I am 46, female and have shopped in many parts of the world and know this mall is not the grandest, but it didn't deserve a grand slap review either. If you need something and do not want to challenge Metrotown or downtown Robson (where I work and shop), this mall is ideal. As for the senior magnet comment, show some respect. This mall has some key stores, Kins, Cobbs, Shoppers, etc. and is a great asset to the community, which includes Burnaby. As a matter of fact, I am going there today ... ps... My one star is based on the SaveOn Foods and Walmart, the only decent aspects of this mall. Actually, dollar store is also a positive. Has to be the worst mall food fair I've seen in quite some time. No salad bar or anything resembling healthy food. I guess seniors don't eat healthy food. Was there today mid-morning and wanted something to tide me over until lunch. Ordered a coffee and the healthiest looking pastry I could find at the "Beverage Station" mid-mall. I noticed that all available seating was taken up by chatting seniors. When I ordered, the gentleman/owner/clerk told me that they were out of coffee and said that a fresh pot would be ready in "1 minute." I said "okay". After he served another customer, he started to brew the fresh pot, and he then turned to me and said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I told him that I wasn't prepared to wait 10 minutes and asked for a refund, as I had already paid for the coffee and pastry. He scowled at me, gave me back my $5.10 reluctantly, and started cursing me under his breath. In response, I told him to "F... off". and he said the same to me. As if I'm ever going back to the Beverage Station. I then walked down to Blenz (at the end of the mall) and had a very pleasant cup of coffee and pastry. read more

I decided to write for the terrible experience I spent, I frequent this mall because of Walmart! And sometimes dollarama ... I used to go to the ardene store that is right out of walmart, I went in there yesterday to buy some things and decided to ask if by chance they were hiring people .. since I only have some months in the country, But back home I used to have 2 shoe shops and a dental clinic along with my husband .. so i know a lot about sales .. i talked to the lady who was in charge and kindly i ask her if she was having a good day, and i ask If they were hiring people ... so she looked me up and down with contempt (I am Muslim, converted to Islam, I am not arabic) and literally she answered "NO NO NO" with hatred in her voice .. what kind of People are those Because they despise others in that way! I really do not need the work ... but I like to occupy my time, i like work it even if I do not need the money .. she only saw me as if she were begging for money .. I am sure that I have more money than her and not for that It's less than me! When they going to understand that the people we worth for who we are and not what whe look like or have! i look like a very professional person but a piece of fabric in my head is the only diference ..I felt sad for her and all the hatred she has in her heart read more

A rather sad mall. I use the [ formerly ] $1 store,mis-named now as almost everything is more than $1 and that is about it. The only book store in New West is also there. Ridiculously lame food court. With few exceptions service stinks along with washrooms. Reek o' pee. Walmart is always a waste of time.nothing I need in stock. And this is just about the only shopping in New West. No thanks, I am not taking the bus to Queensborough mall. Maybe skytrain to Lougheed. Somewhat useful. There is always Value Village. We have 4 near here.Heck there is even a better selection of underwear there.Seriously. Army and Navy on Columbia???? forget it. Really mickey mouse security.They just stare and stare at you. I asked about some packaged t-shirts once. Nope could not open the pack and try them on. Nope could not return them if they did not fit right. Left the store sans T-shirts.Have not been back since. And little else in underwear !! unless you want to wear fishing gear. Guess that section is cool. Usually hubby can be found down there driving the security nuts as he loves to wander and gaze fondly upon the bait and lures. Whatever turns yer crank.
