I chose this no frills place on Club Dr off Steve Reynolds to beat the high traffic and higher prices places on Duluth. I am not sure if that was a good idea necessarily. While my hair came out ok, the experience wasn't pleasant. I remembered mostly being in pain and listening to strange conversations from the dressers discussing about financial issues/litigation, etc. for professionalism, I don't think discussing about financial legal issues is the best thing to do. Also watching one of the dressers come in and then go straight to a booth and start buzzing his own hair was also odd. I was here for a haircut and highlights without an appointment. I am grateful they managed to squeeze me in. The whole appointment was about 3 hours long. I don't recall my previous balayages/highlights being this uncomfortable. The technique here, which makes sense is sectioning hair and teasing it and then applying the chemical. The teasing part was rough and I kept thinking how were they going to remove a whole head of tangled hair later? Sure enough, as they were combing the hair out, applying a lot of conditioner, I questioned if there was a less barbaric way to do this. By far the star of this place is a stylist named Jessica. IT sounds like my dresser complained that Jessica doesn't show up in time and offered me a spot with her instead of Jessica. I wasn't super picky about The outcome and was pressed on time, so I said yes. I am pretty sure I lost quite a bit of hair from the detangling process as my ponytails have been very thin afterwards. Will likely go back to something on Pleasant Hill. Saving the money was nice at first but you get what you paid for. read more

They listened to what I wanted rather than doing their own thing which was my experience at the last 2 salons I went too. The salon is small, but has plenty of booths. It's located in the Publix shopping center. Ample parking available. There are other stylists in the salon, and they are all friendly. They are usually busy, so making an appointment or calling ahead is definitely advisable. read more

Jessica, the owner, doesn't just do hair... she is creating art. By FAR, this had been the best hair cut and color I have had since I've moved here. I tried other local award winning salons and wasn't impressed. This place isn't fancy, but the effort and love put into color correcting my dry over-processed hair has won me over. I was impressed right off the bat when I able to get an appointment the same day. But though I was happy with my haircut and the stylist was fast she was also a bit harsh when washing and handling my hair and she was a bit abrupt. I had to ask her to use heat protectant on my hair when she blow dried and straightened it. She didn't use any styling product either and though my hair looked good because it's very healthy it was, also flat - my challenge is getting volume in my hair and it would have been nice to have some styling product added since that's what I was paying for. All in all it was a decent experience and the price was reasonable but I won't be back. read more

A different kind of war By Enuma Chigbo Indeed, I sit here typing away in my living room, feeling much lighter than I was before I left home this morning. I had a huge load on my head and was determined to dump it at all costs. My major 'accessory' to this 'dumping ground' is the Royal Clip Salon, on Pleasant Hill, Duluth Georgia. Funny a few days before this day, the Lord, who has a way of placing snippets here and there, paints a little picture in my mind. I teach Sunday School in my church, Full Truth Church of God and last week, I was directed to title the teaching for that day, "Crowning Glory." Perhaps this was His way of letting me know that this interesting load, which was trying to make my head its permanent resting place would finally be exterminated. The load in question was a weave I had sown into my hair sometime in December 2019. "How long have you had this?" Jessica my attendant asks me as she wades through this rather intriguing labyrinth. I refuse to answer, shame being the sole reason. I had met Jessica a while back. I met her for the same reason. She took out my weave and quite effortlessly too. But second time around, I was unsure of the same results for the simple reason that to the best of my understanding no one and I mean no one leaves weaves in their hair for that long. I walked into the Royal Clip Salon wondering if I would walk out with any hair at all. "I just couldn't afford to come," I say to her quite sheepishly. It wasn't just the very reasonable fee Jessica charged me, but transporting myself from my new location Cumming and back would cost an additional fortune. But, the funds came miraculously and for this reason, I find myself on Jessica's seat. Walking around the plaza, I find it hard to believe I once lived in this environment. Yes indeed, I did and two years later coming back to familiar terrain, I would feel like the perfect stranger. Anyway I put away this thought for a while even as I start putting sequences together - Crowning Glory- Royal Clip. In these sequences lie an untold story and it is indeed my duty to tell it. In this place, where I would spent at least four hours of my Saturday, there was time to do a bit of observation. The place is squeaky clean. I particularly like the stain free dark brown wooden floors, a nice contrast to white walls and black leather swivel chairs. Some of the swivel chairs are white and my guess is that the white chairs are strictly for those who come in for a haircut. As for me, I would have a good time on my black swivel chair. There is another chair that sits much taller than the rest. It's a taupe leather chair where you can get a nice regal pedicure. "Do you mind if other people help out with your hair?" Jessica asks me. Actually, she did not ask that Saturday. She asked this question the day before when she called me to reconfirm my appointment slated for that wonderful Saturday. Of course my response was in the affirmative but behind that response was a cheeky grin and silent thought on my part. "If this lady had x-ray lenses she would not be asking me that question! Anyway, Jessica embarks on the arduous task and the conversations begin. I would learn that she is Vietnamese and has lived in the United States for about 15 years, which makes me more like a newcomer. In my home country Nigeria, the nickname given in this regard in JJC, which means Johnny Just Come and please don't ask where this came from! For the very first time, I am excited about taking selfies. Before and after pictures of this 'historic' event would definitely be apt. Two ladies come in and join Jessica and somehow the picture in my mind as per the 'before' state changes from that of a labyrinth to a farm, maybe in my home country Nigeria. Perhaps the unprecedented dirt adorning the salon's black cape provided to protect my clothes may have had a whole lot to do with this. Looking at the thickness of this beach sand like dirt all did remind me of that and then my thoughts deepened even further, I began to imagine the harvesting the yam tuber, a staple crop in that part of the world. It carries a whole lot of the dirt from the ground in which it's harvested. In total shame I watched and then from the corner of my eye I watched the facial expressions of the ladies, looking for signs that betrayed contempt or disgust but I found none. For some reason, they seemed more interested in getting the job done. Somehow my eyes were drawn to the writing on the painting hanging pretty on the salon walls. The words promote silence and denounce idle chatter. In about two hours, my hair is free from all entanglements. I look at the floor and see what came out, which to my mind is enough for the full head of hair of another. To think some Asian women make tons of money this way... Jessica asks me virtually all the time if I am doing okay and that gesture makes me feel well at home. To be continued. read more

They have a few reviews but really good ones. I love the diverse staff and customer base. Everyone is really nice and my hair looks lovely, the price was great, too! It's hard to find a great hairstylist/especially, the one that knows what you want. I've been to this place twice and luckily, Jessica did my hair. I'm not a type that needs a special treatment or whatsoever. She is really friendly and the fact that she pays attention to her client is really amazing. Asked for face framing layers only starting from below chin and 1 length in the back. ended up with messy short assymetrical layers all over including the back. so called face framing layers were not face framing at all. they cut really short layers all the way up to crown and eye which i didnt ask for. It was a Korean stylist who spoke some english. So maybe there was some miscommunicaton. But the damage is done. It has been 1 year. i am still growing out this horrible haircut. I have fine hair, so this haircut makes my hair look more thin. would not recommend for women with fine,curly hair read more

Today I went into Royal Clip with hair that had been absolutely destroyed by another stylist just 3-4 days ago. The lady who I went to on Saturday over processed my hair with bleach, and had absolutely no consideration for my curl pattern. I left her location with hair that would NOT curl, and I have hair that is extremely curly, bouncy and lively. The color I left with resembled Slim Shady and wasn't close to what I asked for. I was so distraught. I graduate tomorrow morning from high school and I NEEDED my hair to be beautiful! I called Royal Clip as soon as they opened and spoke to one of the stylists and explained to her what happened. She reassured me and gave me confidence that she would be able to do something to make my hair feel a lot less grassy/straw-like. She gave me pricing for recoloring, washing, blow drying, and a treatment for the damage done. She listened and helped me out wonderfully. Upon arrival, I informed my stylist, Tina, that I had a 12 pm graduation practice and she said okay and with no hesitation made sure that I would be able to leave on time. She had other stylists who weren't busy aide in blow drying and straightening my hair. At one point I had 3 people straightening my hair! It was the absolute best salon experience I have ever had. I've been coming here for over five years, Lily is who you should go see. I've been to several hair salons in the Atlanta area however many have gotten the job done but costed me an arm and leg and also a pain to schedule an appointment with. Lily is always accommodating, she tries her best to fit me in whenever I need to get anything done, she works hard to undersrabd what the client is requesting, she's had a couple bad apples come and go through the salon (stylists wise), but she's maintained her clientele by her exceptional work (especially in the coloring department). Many male customers come in looking for "Lynne" - beware of this stylist, she will steal your customers and your man! Long story short - Lily will get the job done. I HAD long thick hair I just wanted her snip the ends and take a LITTLE of the weight off. 45 minutes later and a 6 in high pile of hair on the floor it's now so thin it won't even a hot roller.
