Having had massages done for over 20 years, I have never heard of a masseuse who is hired untrained to perform massages unless the client is solely on the back. Nor have I heard of a spa who books massages without specifying that the masseuse may be unable to do a massage at all if you are unable to lie on your stomach after you inform them you are postnatal from a c section. After I told her I guess I would cancel the massage because she kept shrugging stonefaced while telling me "I just can't do it," she promptly left the room and began gossiping with another masseuse down the hall. I literally had to call out after her "can you at least show me the way out?" given the lack of exit signs in Spavia's dark hallway. Caitlin rolled her eyes and sarcastically asked "you are not going to change into your clothes?" and I told her I needed the locker room. She wordlessly showed me the way before rolling her eyes again and stalking off. Please avoid booking with this woman Caitlyn and Spavia in general. Also, Caitlin came to collect me at 12:59pm (though I could hear her chatting with someone in the hallway well before then) so that my 1:00pm appointment time could start ticking away while she led me to the room, did intake, have me get ready, etc. No waiver or paperwork regarding massage goals was done at all, though it is unlikely she would have reviewed it anyway. I would also avoid this Spavia location for safety reasons.

I also have had numerous surgeries after a dissolute life with HS and college athletics and, to be frank, I was hurting. After an hour, I left feeling drained and a bit like one of what I call "puddle" puppies who look so relaxed as to have been poured into a melting heap. I was fixing my thoughts on a nap before dinner. After awaking, I felt that familiar warmth and relaxation that one frequently gets from a good massage, in the hands of a practiced professional. The facility was inviting and clean and the whole experience was very rewarding and satisfying. I would rate the overall experience as being one of the top five massages that I have received in about six different countries. What I mean by that is this is not the Red Door Spa of the late 80s. However, the work that is done here is incredibly well done. They clearly make every attempt at ambience with spa music and keeping things mostly quiet or hushed, although I'm not going to deny that the rooms are "curtained" rooms (areas sectioned off by curtains). Nonetheless, there's perfect privacy within those. Can you hear other things happening around? Yes you can. But I have to tell you that that did not bother me one bit. If you're looking for some exclusive situation, they do apparently have private rooms. Whether or not they are soundproof, I cannot attest to. However, the work that was done while I was on that table was terrific! The woman who worked with me was Yo Yo and she was utterly fantastic. From the time that I arrived until I walked out the door--which Yo Yo opened and held open for me out of courtesy-- I was pampered. I was escorted to the back, given a robe/drape, given a few moments alone to undress from waist up as I was partaking in the 60 minute head spa. Yo-yo checked with me before coming back into the space and then assisted me (not that I really needed it) with getting on the table so that I was positioned correctly. She was gentle. She was smiling. She was quiet mostly, but did stop to ask questions (water temp, pressure of massage, etc.). She began her work, which started with a dry run through of the hair with various tools. If you've seen the videos on social media that keep popping up for head spa you have the general idea of what I mean when I say the tools that they use. I was there on that table for an hour. I had a mini facial. My head was massaged multiple times both dry and shampooed (twice). I had my neck massaged, my upper chest, my upper back and then all the way down my arms to my hands. It was wonderful. I have no complaints whatsoever. The products that were used were very light in their scent, but pleasant nonetheless and they were not greasy. The steam and whatever conditioner that is on my hair has made my hair so shiny and soft. I have processed hair. My hair has not been this soft since prior to bleaching/coloring. I cannot say enough good things about this experience. I expected sort of what I saw on the social media postings by various other "spas" and that's exactly what I got and more. Yo-yo met me out at the table where there was the hair dryer (and a snack and bottle of water) and blew out my hair a little bit. Was it styled? No. That's not what she's there to do. I walked out with dry hair. I don't have a problem with that. I kept a hat in the car and a clip to put it in an updo if it didn't look manageable. It looked fine. I was 100% satisfied. I hope that if you're reading this review, you have the same type of experience. I thought it was worth every penny and I will be going back again.
