It is always great seeing a clean and nice produce market open up in a mall environment, as it…read moreseems to add life to a mall, instead of having regular retail store after regular retail store. The fruit and vegetables seem to always be set up in a nice fashion, presentable and brightly lit for everyone. Some people might think Kin's is more expensive than other places, and at times, some items, yes, and some, not at all. One thing that Kin's has going for it is that wherever they are getting their produce from, they definately watch out before randomly putting things out to the public. Also, they put out a good amount of samples of their fruit for you to try, which is always nice if your wondering if it is sweet, or not.

Shopping at this 'local-to-us' Kin's has definitely become a "grow-on-me" experience over the past…read morecouple of years. Heh, it's the same store and location I reviewed before, but I truly-believe the current manager, who has operated the store over this time period, has done a rather fine job - considering what he has had to work with (= the small physical size of store, and thus, display area, etc.), and where it's located (= within a Mall, with the expensive leases, operations, what you can do, and when, etc.). And kudos to the staff - they have changed very little over the past long-while - and I much-appreciate all their help and efforts!! Re: products offered - as always, a wide-range of local and imported fruits & veggies selections. The emphasis - whether local vs imported - of course, shifting with the seasons, and the prices of products being offered doing much the same. In this neighbourhood, there's a limited market offering of quality, fresh fruits and produce -- Kin's definitely outshines the others.

New Westminster Farmers Market has such an awesome selection of vendors each week…read more I'd been wanting to try Twins Donuts for quite some time and when I found out that they were going to be at the New Westminster Farmers Market I just had to make it over there! I brought home 4 donuts: Oreo, Ube Coconut, Leche/Dulce Flan and Apple Pie. These donuts were scrumptious! I love how generous they were with the fillings. There was so much filling spilling out when I cut these donuts. While I was at New Westminster Farmers Market I also bought a few truffles and a Caramel Crunch chocolate bar from Drunken Chocolatier . They have such interesting flavours. Coconut Sambal truffles for instance...I've never seen any other place selling a Coconut Sambal truffle! Lots of crunching to be heard when we ate the Caramel Crunch so it definitely lived up to its name! Their chocolate truffles look so picture perfect. "Artisan" chocolate is an apt description for these chocolates as they really are a work of art. I was impressed already by the chocolates they were selling at the New West Farmers Market. I'm sure I'd been even more impressed if I went to their store on W Broadway.

Re: a purchase and recent preparation of squid…read more What was purchased, and how it was prepared. - two, rather large, whole squid -- purchased as a frozen product, and kept frozen. - when thawed - tentacle area (head) of each squid was cut away from the body, and body contents cleared, and thoroughly cleaned - first meal -- tentacles and pre-cooked vermicelli rice noodles, stir fried together in wok - second meal -- body tubes cut into 'rings', marinated (in canola oil, garlic, ginger, and wine), and the contents stir fried, in wok on high heat -- served w/vermicelli rice noodles prepared stove top. Results: - first meal - found the squid flavourful, but definitely a little tough. Was surprised though, the leftovers after an overnight in the fridge, and eaten cold, were sure good -- much more tender, and with the flavour I had hoped to taste and enjoy yesterday. - second meal - a similar experience - the squid looked good, though still tough after cooking - but after an overnight in the fridge, was so much more tender, flavourful, and tasty. My experiences dealing with preparing and cooking these whole, frozen squid were a lot of fun. The initial results, though a touch off the marks I had hoped for, had ended up with results so much closer, and enjoyed. The squid were really flavourful and tasty, once they had "their way" from how I had initially treated them!!

'singling out another veggie for special mention'…read more It is 'Baby Gai Choy' ('Chinese Mustard Green'), and was observed on a shelf at LFM druing a recent shopping stop. I had not recalled seeing this particular veggie before. Short-stemmed, with long and broad leaves, bagged (like the other 'choys' sold there), the individual bags standing tall, and the product sure looking fresh. And though I had never tried, or even heard of this veggie before, I decided a good-sized bag was comng hme with me. Wow!! there has been no looking back on this purchase with any regret, we have totally enjoyed it. It has an amazing, distinctive "peppery-mustard" flavour, especially noticeable when used uncooked, or only lightly cooked. For us, making it great to use in sandwiches, or salads. But it retains its flavour when cooked. So can, and has added its wonderful green colour and flavour to dishes I have prepared in the microwave oven, and on the stovetop and indoor griddle. I have really enjoyed how the flavour lingers in the mouth after eating -- a mild, and spicy-warmth. I believe it is the 'baby branded' product that particularly meets my descriptions. Unsure if it is sold, at least to the general public, once it grows and ages much further. Glad I saw, and chose to purchase and try it. But will sure miss it when we have finished what I bought, and may be unable to catch a replacement!
