This muffler shop was highly recommended by a friend who had given this shop a bit of their business, so I had no problem supporting a local business even though I had never done any business with them and was going to drop a significant amount of money. On a Wednesday afternoon I called and asked if they would be able to do a catalytic converter repair for a 2007 Mitsubishi eclipse Spyder GT. This car was gifted to me by a friend who let the car fall into disrepair. I've spent a bit of money getting it back to normal operating when I found a bad O2 sensor period that sensor caused a lot of fuel to go into the catalytic converter and destroying it. This was Bank one catalytic converter, and I was quoted $810 for the work. I was asked by the shop for a deposit which I gladly provided them at the price they stated. I was to bring the car in on Thursday for the work to get done however I switched that to Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. I was told that if I brought it in the morning it would give them enough time to finish it by that evening. When I dropped off the car I called back and asked them to make sure they ordered the correct catalytic converter for Bank one. They didn't. They stated that they tried to contact me multiple times, but I have no missed phone calls and I have no voicemails showing that such effort had taken place. The one phone call that I did get I answered and I was told that because of their error the price had to be changed from $810 to $995. No apologies were made however the comment that the errors were on the part of the shop were clearly stated by the owner. It was then Saturday that I would get my car back. I had already left the $400 deposit, I would snow time the day state that I would get a full refund of my deposit had I chosen to cancel, which I would have. I came in to satisfy the bill, but I stated that the errors weren't made in my part and I was quoted $810. Because of the extra labor that would need to take place I was willing to accept a price of $900 instead of the $995. The owner had mentioned that he had gotten there at 3:00 in the morning to do the work on the car so that it would be out in time. Again I reiterated that I would rather pay $900 rather than the $995 that were include because of errors made at the shop. Had I not called and specifically asked them to run an OBD ii reader on the cars to ensure that the correct catalytic converter would be removed, I feel that I would have been on the hook for both the $810 for the installation of the wrong catalytic converter and the $995 for the installation of the correct catalytic converter. At no moment did the owner want to make any types of arrangements due to the negligence and error on their part. I satisfied the bill of $995 and never received my apology at the end when all was said and done the owner attempted to shake my hand while we were still in the middle of this Covid19 pandemic. I will attach the image of the bill stating that I was charged $480 in labor, which was added on top of my bill because of the owners negligence and the error on their part. If I could put a zero star review I would. The only consolation I take in all of this, is that maybe one reader of this post will read this and say that it would be worth going to a big box chain mechanic rather than to this error-prone local business. Muffin muffler is down the way and comes highly recommended after all of this. So for the $200 that he added on top of my bill, I hope he loses $4,000 in business at minimum. And as for the owner, if you read this you still have time to make it right. Driving down from south of Burleson to San Antonio to pick up my daughter and along the way suddenly there was a clanking sound under my car. Pulled over and saw that the heat shield had detached from the muffler. Kept driving with the loose heat shield dangling and prayed it didn't fly off and cause an accident. I divorced a mechanic 7yrs ago that had gutted the catalytic converter on my '97 Pontiac Firebird so had gotten a few expired inspection tickets over the yrs, but recently moved next to a police substation and received 2 more tickets for it in 2mths. I had been quoted $1150 to over $1300 for the repairs by Midas, Aamco, and a few other places over the yrs and couldn't afford that so decided to give Royal Muffler a try after they quoted me $250 over the phone!! Figuring once they actually saw my car the estimate would go up, I took my Firebird there. They kept her overnight, fixed it, AND got her inspected for me for EXACTLY what they quoted! They did such an awesome job I had them work on it overheating (new radiator, new thermostat, new water pump) all for $750 total including labor!!! The next day it was still running a little warm so I took it back, again they kept her overnight, found a bad seal, plus did an oil change all for $89! As much as I would love to keep these folks and their business my personal little secret, they deserve all Austites to know just what great services they provide and for rock bottom prices! I've been going to Royal Muffler for close to 3 years and dealing with Hormus, the owner. Well, after my last few repairs have been pretty high in price, I decided to take a truck I recently purchased and have him check it out, and then have a high - end shop check it out. I discovered that Hormus is a complete liar, he fabricated repairs that he stated needed to be done, including the brakes. The high - end shop said my brake pads still had over 70% of the pads left, and that the rotors were just fine. Again, I've been going to Hormus for 3 years, and referred 3 people to him, and this is how he treats me! Avoid this crook and liar at all costs! read more

The suspension in the truck has a LOT of travel, so I usually don't worry too much about uneven roads, bumps, or road work. Unfortunately, my truck had never before encountered the industrial area of Metric a few blocks north of 183. In one quick intersection, my truck went from having a nice growling hum to sounding like a fog horn with a sore throat; the small mountain in the middle of the road had torn a big hole in my exhaust. Time to look for a muffler shop that won't rip me off. Unfortunately, there were no reviews on yelp for muffler shops (or any shops that obviously did exhaust work; this repair was going to require some significant welding) north of downtown. I could go to Meineke or some similar large chain shop that would undoubtedly want to sell me air filters and windshield wipers, along with an oil change and rear differential flush before they let me get away (none of which did I actually need), or I could look up a local place and just risk it. So I found Royal Muffler, right around the corner from me. Royal Muffler is one of a series of garages all in a few large buildings. Each garage specializes in something; bodywork, paint jobs, mufflers, transmissions, etc. The parking lot (such as there was) was packed with all different sorts of vehicles, but I managed to find a spot and walked in (once I found the front door). The guy I talked to was also one of the mechanics; the place is small enough to not have a dedicated front-desk person. He was helpful every time I came in and pretty much stopped what he was doing any time he saw somebody at the front desk or heard the phone ring to go and help whatever customer needed attention. When I first went in, I told him that I needed someone to look at the truck and that I didn't know exactly what would need to be done. He promptly rolled the car that was on the lift off and moved it into the parking lot, then drove my truck onto the lift to have a look. After poking and prodding for a few minutes, he came back into the office to tell me that I had a tear in the exhaust between the engine and the catalytic converter. He also mentioned that the manifold appeared to be leaking, and if that needed to be machined, that could cost quite a bit. The estimate was between $185 and about $650 including parts and labor, and that it could be done today (this was Saturday morning) or Monday. I asked him to do what was absolutely necessary (the $185 estimate), and to call me if it did look like the manifold needed work or the converter needed replacing. I didn't hear from him Saturday, so I called about 30 minutes before closing to ask if he had any news. I spoke to the same guy's brother, who at first told me that he couldn't find the truck (!) but then realized that the guy was working on it right now, and that it would be done Monday morning. That made me pretty nervous. Around that time I was thinking that this guy might completely rip me off or do a really bad job, or both. I've been ripped off by mechanics before and I was looking for the same pattern; they give you a wide estimate, you tell them to call if it's going to be on the top end, they don't call, you pick up the vehicle, and the bill is for the very top end of the estimate and they tell you that everything absolutely HAD to be done. So the main guy that I've been talking to calls Monday morning (around 10:30) to tell me that the truck's ready. I go in in the late afternoon (around 4) and again somebody comes up to the front pretty quickly. The bill comes out to about $215, and he tells me that the manifold was fine; it didn't need any work after all. He also tells me that he installed a few brackets (I had forgotten that several of the brackets were damaged or missing; essentially he bolted the exhaust back on), but otherwise everything was great. I gave this place 4 stars because I've very rarely had a mechanic tell me that something MIGHT need to be done that, by their estimation, didn't actually need to be done after all. All of the help was also really helpful, polite, and attentive. If I need work done again, I'll certainly go back here. read more

Hormus took care of me again! My sunroof had an issue which caused a waterfall in my truck, then it died. I just knew I was in for major expense. The car needed a new battery and the sunroof needed maintenance, not replacement. It also needed an oil change, which was provided. These folks absolutely saved my skin. Not exaggerating when I say my car was in the worst possible shape it could be in. 5 quarts low on oil, poor timing, 7 codes alerted on the diagnostic. They catalytic converter finally failed and landed me here. Thank the gods. This team brought my Pontiac Vibe back to life in nothing short of miraculous timing. I dropped it off Thursday, walked home, and it was ready Saturday. This place was not dead, there was extensive work being done for various customers and still they were able to not only replace my converter but the cam solenoid, spark plugs, oil, refresh battery terminals, and even get my air/fuel mixture right so the idle was smoother than when I bought my neglected car. So I needed a muffler welded and pipe bending done to align it.... Come back 3 hours later and They weld it in backwards, he apologizes and says it would be 30 mins and he would fix it, 2 hours later (no joke) it's in the bay I am asking a few questions and he try's to cut and flip the muffler and stretch the new muffler I ask him to please just cut it off the weld and start over. The man yells at me saying I am asking for a 200 dollar job! I paid 95 and I provided the muffler...when I got a new one added to my 83 supra (different place in Amarillo) they charged me 150 and they provided the muffler. This man does not do his job well, his welds suck, he apparently is illiterate since the back of the muffler says outlet, he tries to do the least work as possible, and has no clue to treat customers........ DONT GO HERE!!!!!! The extra 20 bucks some where else will get you a better job! If I could give no stars I would! In total I waited for 5.5 hours and finally got it done. I posted this seconds after my car came off the lift... Should have waited I got yelled at by the clerk for what I wrote. read more

Well I thought I found a good exhaust repair shop because I had my old trucks exhaust repaired for cheap and passed inspection. I went back on my next truck to have aftermarket exhaust installed and paid around $400.00 just to get screwed! About 6 months or so one of the hangers broke from the bolt welded to the frame. I just repaired myself instead of taking back in which is my fault. Eventually the straps kept breaking so I finally took it back about a year later. I expected to pay a little since I waited so long, but not much since it was installed wrong originally. I thought he was honest and would be fair. He gave me a price of $120 dollars and tried to say it was my fault and that I am dishonest because I waited so long and I was trying to get something for free! He said I bent the pipes and caused the damage. I tried to explain to him that the pipes were sticking out too far and he also put that off on me saying he asked me where I wanted pipes and thats not true! Well we had words and I told him to take my truck off the lift I will have someone else do work. I then took my truck to muffin mufflers (had good reviews) and they showed me why the straps kept breaking. The pipes were installed where they bend that goes over the rearend and leaf springs were not alighned over the rearend or leaf srings causing the pipes to bang on truck and break. He had to cut both pipes off at muffler and redo the whole thing, including the cheap hangers that were used the 1st time! It cost me $204 to have the horrible work fixed right! So total about $600 to have my exhaust installed! shit tree mechanic! read more

I've been getting my maintenance work done at Royal Muffler for several years now. The staff is always attentive and informative. In the past, I always had problems with other mechanics doing half-assed work (like changing my oil, but not changing the oil filter and not telling me about it) but I've never experienced such issues with these guys. They have fair prices, a good location (only 6 minutes away from my office!) and I've always been satisfied with the work they've done for me. Hey, "it is what it is" this is a small repair shop. They do more then mufflers. I have always been treated honestly and I think fair which goes back about 15 years. I have referred several friends to them without reservation. Granted it's not the cleanest shop but these are good hard working people. Their biggest fault may be trying to accommodate everyone's time request. So if you need a starter, belts, brakes,spark plugs etc replaced this is usually faster and cheaper than the big guys. read more
