rear end replaced
Randall W.

I had to replace the complete rear end assembly on my truck. I needed help at one point where I needed more hands on the job. The owner (who is always there) Mark, had a man to help. Xavier is an experienced mechanic and we were able to complete the change out in one day! I'm a retired mechanic and this shop is right up my alley. They will do the work for you at a very affordable price. I can't say enough good things about them. They provide free cold water and I was offered it constantly. The temperature was 100+ that day

Car up on rack, what could be wrong?

I don't trust auto mechanics as a rule but these guys made me feel comfortable. I am not a DIY mechanic but wanted some advice. Here I did not feel like I was Being hustled or recommended unneeded repairs.

Weekend, 2 hours, with a lift final price.

I was in today, 12/17/17. I researched everything prior to going so I was prepared. I am very excited to find a DIY place so I can do what I can for repairs. The place is a bit hidden so you will have to look for the banner hung up high showing where the facility is. It is very much an auto mechanic garage. Tools, parts, and a mess everywhere. The paperwork is very short. Initial here and sign here style of release of injury. One way in, one way out so be prepared to maneuver your vehicle around other vehicles. The worker on staff and another person guided me in and out. All I wanted was a bay to do a coolant system cleanse. This requires a catch pan and my time. I was put on a lift without request. Don't need it, don't want it but it appeared as if it was the only bay open so off I went. As stated on the webpage, the tools were readily available. Sockets in Standard and Metric, 1/4 and 3/8 drive. 3/8 drive extensions hanging on the side of the box. A hand full of Standard and Flat tip screwdrivers. A great option of pliers. It was an absolute beauty to see. 4 Stars instead of 5 because of the price. As in the picture I posted, which is a screenshot from the webpage, it states $10 an hour for a flat bay and $20 an hour for a lift. I went in hoping to spend $20-$30. I walked put paying $65 (see photo). I learned at checkout the the end prices are different. Nothing on the webpage states this. Two hours on a lift was $60. I did not need a lift. I was given a lift. I guess it was my fault for not clarifying the parameters of it all. But as well, the garage needs to update their webpage with the correct prices. If the pricing had been correct and I didn't get with sticker shock, this would be a 5 Star review.

2003 Ford Lightning on the lift, getting ready for an oil change.

This place is perfect for anyone who likes to work on their own vehicle while having access to everything you need. Everything you need is supplied including tools, lifts, fluid disposal, and knowledgeable staff. I went in to do a simple oil change. Decided to use the lift and it was 10 times easier than just using a jack and crawling underneath. All the tools I needed were there and cleanup was a breeze. I'm definitely coming back every time I need to do anything to my truck. Being inside and in the shade is way better than tinkering out in the hot sun, not to mention it's really inexpensive to use the facility.

Great work space, exceptional tools, and plenty of knowledgeable people to ask for help.

This place has already saved me thousands in one day, and I know they'll save me even more in the long run. Omar put my mind at ease and showed me how to use the A/C equipment, so I could replace a failed compressor. They have every wrench attachment you could imagine and the guys were outstanding. When I doubted myself, experts were within earshot to reassure me and for a very reasonable rate. They even pulled up the repair manual for me on the computer, so I don't need to buy the $120 book. I had plenty of room to work, a clean work bench and top of the line tools. They even ordered the stuff I needed from the parts store and had it waiting for me when I arrived. Mark, Dave, Omar and Haper, you all are great people. I'll be back soon with my Peugeot 405 Mi16, as well as my BMW 5 Series.

Ask the Community - The Austin DIY Shop

Should one arrive with the replacement parts in tow? And, what happens if we need a part we didn't bring?

Are there welders available to weld in a new catalytic converter?

Welders are available as a full service with one of their techs. Otherwise they have power available if you bring your own equipment.

Are bays reserved by appointment, or is it FCFS when you arrive?

9am reservations are available by calling ahead. Otherwise it is first come first served. 99% percent of the time at least one of their 10 lifts are available.

I am looking for a space that will hold my 17 foot Oday sail boat in austin i need to do some fiberglass repair. i have the tools. i just need electricity and the space for two days?

I'd suggest calling the shop. The guys that work there are super helpful.

The most honest mechanics I have ever worked with. I have taken my car here twice for brake pad…read morereplacements and both times they were transparent about what services I needed, and they will take the time to fully explain to you why they recommend the services that they do. Recently I came in to replace the rear brake pads because my Mini Cooper gave an automatic warning to replace them based on mileage. I brought it to Auto 7 Tech; rather than simply replacing the pads they inspected it and actually told me that the pad thickness was fine and that I didn't need to replace them yet - the prioritized being honest over getting me to pay for potentially unnecessary service. However when I went to pick my car up, they let me know that they had inspected more closely and found that the inner surface on the left pad was indeed worn down. I appreciate this attention to detail and transparency. I also asked them if I needed to replace the rotors, and they told me that they had driven the car around and concluded that the rotors didn't need replacement (in contrast two other shops insisted on bundling the pad replacement and the rotor replacement). In my experience Auto 7 also gives very fair pricing compared to other shops. At Auto7 they will inspect your car carefully and thoroughly before recommending service, and they will not try to upsell you or take advantage of you.

This Firestone is a complete disaster. I had an appointment for an oil change at 8 AM, so I arrived…read morea bit early at 7:57 AM to ensure I was on time. I started checking in, and the worker asked if I wanted to add tire rotation. I said yes, and everything seemed to be going smoothly. While I waited for them to finish, I decided to take a walk and browse the stores around the area. Fast forward to 10 AM, and I returned to find my car still in the same spot. I was a bit upset to see that it hadn't been worked on yet. I went to get a status update with the manager, and he asked if I had an appointment. I told him I had one at 8 AM. He then started looking for my appointment on his computer and told me he couldn't find it. I pulled out my phone to show him the reservation, but he still said he was having trouble finding it. His coworker chimed in and told him the number of the appointment. He then said that they had cars from overnight that they were working on first. I would have understood if this had been communicated to me when I arrived at 8 AM, but it wasn't. So, I waited for 3.5 hours, and my car was finally done at 11:25 AM. I paid and left with my invoice emailed to me. Please don't come here. They don't care about customer service or setting expectations. If an oil change takes 3 hours, they should at least communicate that to the customer. Many of us don't want to spend all day at an auto shop on our day off, especially since this was just for an oil change. To add to this experience, it was raining, and instead of parking my car in the covered area in front of the shop, they parked it in the parking lot. I will not be returning to any Firestone in Austin. This is the second store location I have tried, and I have left extremely disappointed. They don't respect your time, and if you arrive early, even if it's just three minutes before your appointment, they should also respect your time as you have respected there time by arriving early or in time

They were supposed to remove a nail in one of my tires and patch it up. A few days later the tire was low again and noticed the nail was still in the tire. I recommend going somewhere else if you're trying to avoid a very negative experience.
