Long story short, Be aware of how they calculate your "estimate"...it's not for the actual time of work put into your car...its based on arbitrary time calculated by a software program. They are honest...but they are honest about how they are going to overcharge you for work. In this economy, it isn't right. I recently brought my 2019 Buick Encore here for an electrical issue with the cooling fan and relay. The owner was polite and responsive, which I appreciated. The hourly rate of $110 is fair and standard, but what I can't overlook is how the shop calculates time and parts costs. The estimate showed over 2.5 hours of labor for a job that takes about 30-60 minutes to complete. When I asked for clarification, the owner said their pricing comes from a software called PRODEMAND, which sets "national standard" labor times. That may sound official, but it doesn't reflect how long the work actually takes. It's a flat-rate billing system that inflates labor on simpler jobs. In other words, you're paying based on software, not the real effort or time spent on your car. The parts markup was also steep. I was told that I needed a new relay sensor and that the cooling fan ***RESISTOR*** was the problem in my quote notes. But I kept reading and on the list below the notes he quoted me the cost for both a relay sensor fuse (way over the market price) as well as a FULL COOLING FAN/ ASSEMBLY ***way*** over the market price. Not simply a resistor. What? Let me rephrase: A relay sensor/fuse that costs $15-$20 at retail price was quoted to me at $42.82 by this shop, and when I asked for transparency on the "local cost," I never got a clear answer. Likewise, I was told the sole cooling fan resistor part couldn't be replaced separately and that I would have to buy a ***full brand new fan unit*** even though RESISTOR replacements (only) for this model clearly exist. When I asked why? That's a shop policy, he says. I even TRIED TO NEGOTIATE a lower price by offering to BUY THE PARTS MYSELF, but he was unwilling. Here was his response to my questions: "To answer your question, 1. Any part you search online will always be cheaper than the local cost. The price you are quoted is the local cost plus shop mark up. 2. The resistor has failed, and the resistor is connected to the fan motor. We will not be able to use your parts. -Every shop works differently, in regards to replacing parts. For us to do this job we would replace the full fan assembly. We cannot replace the resistor independently. 3. We charge $110 per hour and the calculated rate is based on PRODEMAND which is a national software estimating guide. 4. Replacing only the relay will not fix the problem. You have two separate issues. Thanks," I'm not saying they're dishonest; I believe they follow their own internal system. But customers should know how those estimates are built, especially when money is tight and car repairs are essential for work and daily life. I would search for a different mechanic if I were you. However, If you go here, ask for the PRODEMAND labor hours up front, ask for the part's pre-markup price up front, and confirm whether a part is truly unserviceable or just replaced by policy. The transparency matters...because without asking, you'll pay more than the repair actually costs. I don't like it one bit. You shouldn't either. Good luck. read more

I normally take my car to the dealership for repairs/fixes. I had an oil leak that required a rear engine oil seal repair. The dealership quoted me about $3,000 whereas it only cost $925 at Luu. I have used Luu Auto Repair several times for multiple cars. They came recommended by a coworker when I was complaining about the cost of getting my car fixed. Each time I have had estimates from a dealership or other chain auto place (name rhymes with PireStone). Not only did they beat the price, the the work was absolutely first rate. My 2008 Honda Odyssey was not cooling properly. AC internal air would only work on the highway - turn hot at stop. The Honda dealership wanted to replace the entire AC system. Luu suggested doing a proper flush/fill of the Freon system and wanted only half what the dealership wanted to charge for that ($75 instead of $150). Turns out that was what was wrong - and saved me a LOT of money. On my 2007 Honda CR-V I had several significant problems. Power Steering leak, bad wheel bearing, bad strut and leaking oil valve cover seal. Not only did they come in half of what the dealership was asking they also recommended replacing the valve cover with a metal one - that he sees their plastic ones becoming brittle and causing engine damage as they break. I did that and really appreciate the suggestion - pay a little now to avoid a major problem down the road. Now that is service! I'm cheap and I don't buy new cars, and while I maintain and take car of them that does mean they need repairs. I have had bad repairs at many shops - cables and hoses not properly tightened, lug nuts over-tightened, even the wrong size tires put on one time. Mistakes happen. However, I have NEVER had a bad repair here. Combine that with much lower prices and very honest opinions make this simply the best place to take a car. read more

I took my vehicle in because the check engine light came on after a sudden dip in temperature outside. They got back to me fairly quickly informing me I needed to get a new alternator, belts, and a sensor. $700 and a few days later I went to pick it up. It drove well for a day or two and then the check engine light came back on and the belts squealed everytime I started the car or turned on the AC. I called them and they said to bring it in . I brought it early one morning and left it there. I got a call around 5pm and went to pick it up. Although they said they looked at it I doubt that they did. When looking under the hood I noticed and pointed out that the wiring harness wasn't even put back together from when they fixed it before and after putting it back right the mechanic just reiterated the symptoms I told them over the phone and said they didn't know yet . When I started the car to drive it away the belt started shrieking again and the mechanic looked first surprised and then told me they could fix the issue no problem . I just had to leave my car again. So I gathered that they never even looked at it. Being my only transportation I couldn't just leave it and was told to bring it back in at a later date. I called to arrange another time and was told to bring it in a few days later and early in the morning like last time . By this point the belt was squealing while driving and the car was making a strange rattle noise when I decelerated as well as the check engine light coming back on. I ended up getting it fixed somewhere else that could do it in a reasonable time frame . I went here because I heard they were the best but I guess I caught them when they were too busy. read more

I just moved to Austin and my AC was sucking and blowing less than cold air. In the hottest June in history locally, that wasn't cutting it. So I went to Luxury Auto Services for a diagnostic. They recommended AC compressor, drier, front lower control arms, and alignment for just under $4000. Now, I'm used to expensive repairs on this 10 year old Audi Q7 but a friend from San Jose checked with his family locally and I got referred to Luu's. Sent them the other estimate, they countered with a much better quote including the OEM AC compressor. So I dropped it off late yesterday. Got a call this morning from Don. Compressor is a little low on pressure, cabin filter needs replacement, front lower control arms don't need to be done. They said he was honest. He is. I opted to do the AC work and an alignment. Now this old girl is blowing cold and riding straight out the door for $1400. So when you're driving down N Lamar and see Luxury Auto on one side of the street, turn in on the other side and talk to Don at Luu's. I needed the driver side window motor of my car replaced and did not want to get ripped off again by Maxwell Round Rock Nissan as they charge $280 for the window motor, and another $220 for what is actually 30 mins to an hour worth of labor. This is a common problem that affects many Nissans and I already had my passenger window motor replaced by them before. I was referred to Luu Auto by my parents and gave them a call letting them know that I already had ordered the part from Autozone($170, but you get $40 back when you give them your old damaged part in exchange, so total price $130). I was quoted a price of $65 for labor. I took the car there around 11am on a Wednesday afternoon and they were finished in an hour. Service was friendly and professional and I saved $300 by not going to the Nissan dealership, who would not have had my car ready in an hour. Not only that, they would have required me to drop the car off in the morning and probably wouldn't get around to servicing it until the afternoon, and there wouldn't even be a free loaner car for me to drive in the meantime. For convenience, value, and good service, I'd definitely go back to Luu Auto again. read more

On a business trip to Austin from my office in Fort Worth, my 2001 Impala (70K mile) overheated at an intersection about 5 miles from my destination. Using Yelp, I selected Luu Auto Repair as the garage to which I would have my car towed. I was on a tight schedule that required me to be back in Fort Worth by 6 pm the next day, and I shared that information with Mr. Luu after I reached him on the telephone. When he told me that he would not be able to look at my vehicle until it was too late to accommodate me, I asked him for a referral to another garage. He told me to call his nephew, Don, at the N. Lamar branch of Luu Auto Repair. I called and spoke to Don. He said he would try to make things happen for me. I arranged for the tow truck to take my car to Don's shop on N. Lamar. I then used a ride-share service to take me the rest of the way to my business conference. The next day, Don called me to give me the diagnosis and repair quote. I know just enough about cars to know that the repairs he quoted me were fair and realistic, and the price he gave me was remarkably fair. I have seen similar repairs at dealership cost twice as much as Luu Auto Repair quoted. Although Don could not guarantee the work would be done in time for me to get back on the road to Fort Worth and meet my next deadline, he did say he would "see what I can do." Folks, no less than 2.5 hours later, Don called me to report that my car was repaired and ready to be picked up! Needless to say I was most grateful and deeply impressed. I never enjoy going to the shop for repairs... I don't like getting hassled or lectured at about the condition of my car, and I like to know exactly what I'll be paying for. In spite of all that, my experience with Luu's was fantastic. My car actually broke down overnight, so I had to jump start it and scoot down there and drop it off at their gate in the middle of the night. But they took it in the next morning without question and had a quote for me within a couple hours. $280 to fix the electrical issues with the clutch and starter, and to fully replace the master cylinder...not bad at all! I got it back in the afternoon and Don was super nice and helpful. Absolutely a stress-free experience. Go there for your next shop visit, I mean it.
