Gel Pedicure Chipping 1 Day After Service (Aug. 7, 2026)

I came to Royal Nails Spa on August 6, 2026, after dropping my dog off at the vet. I had been dealing with stressful vet appointments and wanted to treat myself to something nice. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the quality of the services I received. It has taken me a while to write this review because I was busy caring for my dog, who sadly has since passed away. I made my appointment online and they were able to get me in right away. The salon itself is beautiful and has a high-end appearance, and the receptionist was friendly. Unfortunately, the quality of my services did not match the appearance or the prices. I received a Gel-X new set for $110 and a gel pedicure for $82. With the cash discount, I paid $183 before tip and over $200 total after tipping. The appointment also became uncomfortable because I repeatedly heard things like "that's extra," "this color is extra," and "that costs extra." I appreciate being informed about additional charges beforehand, but hearing it repeatedly made the experience feel more focused on upselling and money than providing a relaxing, high-quality service. For the premium prices being charged, I expected premium-quality work. Unfortunately, the problems started almost immediately. My appointment was August 6. I am attaching a photo taken August 7 at 7:11 PM, literally the next day, showing that the gel polish on my pedicure had already chipped/come off. An $82 gel pedicure should not be chipping one day after the service. I also needed acrylic sculpted onto a toenail I had previously lost. The pedicure technician seemed unsure how to do it and brought over acrylic nail tips. The technician doing my manicure actually had to stop working on my hands, tell the other technician no, and take over doing the acrylic on my toenail herself. Then my Gel-X manicure started lifting and the nails began popping off. My second photo is dated August 14 at 7:02 AM, only eight days after my appointment, and shows the lifting/separation. The Gel-X application was also messy underneath my nails, with excess product globbed up on the undersides. In my opinion, the extensions did not appear to have been properly sized or applied. After spending over $200 including tip, having my $82 gel pedicure chip the very next day and my $110 Gel-X manicure begin lifting and coming apart within days was incredibly disappointing. Maybe I happened to get inexperienced technicians that day -- I can't say. But based on my experience, I personally would not return. At this point, I am not interested in returning to have the services redone. I would simply like my money refunded. I don't feel comfortable giving the salon another opportunity to work on my nails after this experience. This was supposed to be a small moment of self-care during an incredibly difficult time while I was dealing with my dog's health. Instead, I spent over $200 on nails that began falling apart almost immediately. A beautiful, high-end-looking salon doesn't make up for poor-quality work. For the prices being charged here, I expected the quality and longevity of the services to match. Unfortunately, in my experience, they did not. The dated photos I'm attaching were taken August 7 and August 14 following my August 6 appointment. I think the timeline and photos speak for themselves.

They did an amazing job! Went in today and got builder gel on my very short, natural nails, and asked for some nail art whatever was possible. Lily was able to make it happen no problem and did an amazing job with the art. I also paid for the luxury pedicure and they did fantastic with that as well. Highly recommend. The only "con" is that they accept tips in cash only, which is very clearly labeled at the front when you check in. I just did not plan accordingly, and had to pay to use their ATM in order to tip. So just plan ahead.

Overall, service here is quick and they offer complimentary drinks, including alcoholic beverages, which is a nice touch. I came on a Wednesday early afternoon when they suddenly got a big rush of customers. My nail technician, Amanda, seemed to be the manager since she was coordinating appointments and directing staff throughout my visit. At first, I was excited because I assumed she'd be very experienced based on all the positive reviews here. I'm pretty particular about my nails especially details like clean polish application close to the cuticle, even coats, and consistent nail shape. Unfortunately, because she was multitasking the entire appointment, it felt like my nails didn't get the attention to detail I was hoping for. She didn't ask what nail shape I wanted, and the shape ended up looking inconsistent from nail to nail. The polish application also wasn't the cleanest. Some lines are uneven, the coats aren't fully smooth, and there are a few bubbles. It a bit disappointing because Amanda seems highly praised in many of the reviews. That said, this place is clearly well-loved by locals, and the prices are reasonable/average for the area. It may be worth it if you're taking advantage of the complimentary drinks, but personally I'd still recommend Ken Nails in Dublin for consistent results. I've gone to Royal Nail Spa a handful of times now and have been meaning to write a review. I wanted to leave an honest review because I've noticed a lot of complaints about pricing. Yes -- this salon is on the more expensive side, and they do charge separately for things like gel polish, reshaping, etc. However, all of those prices are clearly listed on the menu. I feel like a lot of the negative reviews come from people not fully reading or understanding that the manicure/pedicure base price does not include gel, which is an additional cost. Personally, I think the pricing is worth it because you truly get what you pay for here. The technicians are very detail-oriented and really take their time to make sure you leave happy with your nails. I never feel rushed, and the quality has always been consistent for me. I also think communication is key when getting your nails done anywhere. You have to communicate what you're looking for in terms of shape, color, length, etc. I've personally never felt uncomfortable being honest or speaking up if there was something I wanted adjusted, and they've always been willing to make sure I left happy. I typically go to Mimi, Ni, or Bella, and they always do an amazing job. If you're looking for a salon that focuses on quality and attention to detail, I definitely recommend giving Royal Nail Spa a try.

The service and ambiance is great here. My only complaint is that they decide if they are a child by height. They charged me an adult price for my 7 year old because she's taller than 120cm even through she didn't reach the water in the pedicure tub without pillows behind her. Otherwise everything is always wonderful here.

Lily saved the day! Got my nails done here last week and they started randomly breaking, for reason ms that shouldn't break a nail. I came in to fix the 4 broken nails, and she redid my entire set because she didn't like how the previous one was done! I didn't expect that but appreciate it so much!! I recently started getting acrylics again, and I have loved my experience at Royal nails. I have gone to Amanda the last two times and she is wonderful. My daughter has gotten hers done by Tiffany and they also turned out great. The salon is very clean and the best part is you can have a glass of wine or champagne while you're there. The photo is one week after I got these and I'm super hard on my nails, cat eye is my new favorite style.

I found this shop on Yelp because of the amazing reviews. The first time I went was a few days ago. I got a builder gel set. Beth did an amazing job on my nails. She was incredibly sweet and did great work. Since I had a great experience, I booked a pedicure for today. My nails last week costed me about $100. The luxury pedicure I got today was priced at $58, however when I got to the register my total was $105. While I did get acrylic on two toes, soaked off gel polish, and a French set, I think $47 added on is steep. This was not including the tip. I have gotten a similar set for less. The shop is very clean and the staff is very friendly. I don't think my pedicure should have been more than my manicure, so I don't think I will be back. The shop is definitely a good place to go when you want to splurge a little extra. read more

I was looking for recommendations for a local nail salon that would be suitable for a small group to get manis/pedis for my wedding later this month. Royal was frequently recommended so I was excited to try it out today before bringing the group in a few weeks. Unfortunately, my fingers started burning during my manicure as the technician was removing my previous dip manicure. I was flinching in pain. I believe my nails were thinned/dremeled way too much. About 6 hours later and my fingers are still burning and sore! The technician said I should have gotten a fill instead so my nails would be stronger, but I have had dip/gel removed many times without having pain like this... Aside from the pain, the atmosphere was nice and clean. They were very busy, but had many technicians working and were able to serve appointments and walk-ins. read more

Updating based on my last 2 visits. The time before last, I had an appointment, was 5 min late but called ahead, and ended up waiting quite a while, which was ok. After I said I needed to leave, Amanda took me back. She's so distracted with everything going on in the salon, that she really shouldn't be taking clients. I got a total rush job and my nails looked awful. I ended up coming back less than 2 weeks later to get them redone. I wouldn't have said anything, this is the second time she's done them, I'm a regular, both experiences were the same, but I really just don't end up with her often in the grand scheme of things, so it was fine. The last experience was very upsetting. I dropped off my two teenage daughters as a treat prior to a very special day they had coming up. Originally they were getting full sets, but I let them get pedicures also last minute. I got a call from one of them asking about the type of pedicure, and I told her to do what was cheapest. She said ok and hung up. When I went to pick them up, I was told I was being charged for gel polish on the toes. I told them I didn't approve that and that they were kids and shouldn't have been asked. I looked at my daughters and asked them to be honest, if they agreed to it. My kids know they would never be in trouble if they're honest, and I'm not one of those parents who pretends to have perfect kids, I know they answered honestly - They both said they didn't understand what was being asked, so they just nodded. It wasn't about what happened, it was about the reaction. Amanda actually said that I could watch the cameras, as though I thought they were being dishonest. My concern was that I felt children were tricked into making a decision they didn't understand, and Amanda, the boy at the front desk (who told me the service was done and stared at me blankly), and the entire staff were totally unapologetic, defensive, and rude. They created an embarrassing scene in the salon to boot, where people were staring at me as though I was an unreasonable customer making a scene. I have been a regular almost since the time they opened, and to be treated that way was extremely upsetting and not a place I want to give my business. To ask children about something like that is irresponsible. I paid for the services and sadly I'll be looking for recommendations for somewhere new for my regular appointments. read more

I would not recommend this business. Went there to get my eye lashes curled. My right eye lashes did not come out evenly. I also got my eyebrows waxed. On the right eye, the person that did the work caused a bruise on top of my eye. When I complained, the manager got defensive and was becoming rude and did not help. Came here for a color change and asked the woman to match the color on my nails and she just handed me the nails samples. I picked one that I thought matched but was off. I found out the color I wanted and asked if they could change it and I would pay for it. I think the owner, a man, changed it for me and when he was done, he held up the color and was yelling to the others in Vietnamese so I couldn't understand but they were looking at me and he had a horrible look on his face, so I assume it was about me. Didn't say anything else to me. I offered to pay for 2 color changes; to be treated like that made me feel uncomfortable and bad. I will not be returning. read more

I just recently moved to the Livermore area and have been searching for a good nail spot. After trying out a few places, I found Royal Nails Spa and I am IMPRESSED with the results. I came to them to get a full set and regular pedicure for my birthday. ANDY did my hands and I am absolutely in love with them. I've been to nail places that did mediocre jobs but Andy was extremely meticulous and took so much time to make sure that every nail was even and perfect. The color, shape, thickness, and length are all PERFECT. I can honestly say that this is the best set I have seen in a long time (pic below!). Kim did my pedicure and was also extremely good! She was very accommodating and did awesome! Definitely will be back here and if you're wondering whether or not you should come here, check it out!!! I am extremely disappointed in the 3 and a half hours I spent at the Royal Nails Spa. When I had first walked in, I noticed how beautiful the interior design and the lighting was. Plenty of staff and they were all very kind and welcoming. The first lady to do my nails is named Nancy, as she was doing my acrylics I noticed that my nails weren't straight and were curving downwards along with the coffin shape I asked for, just wasn't sharp enough for my liking so I had asked nicely if she could fix that for me. She ended up thinning my nails down to the point I can see the fake nails. I expressed that to the receptionist and I said that it was fine and I didn't want further service at this point. She insisted someone else can fix it even after I turned down the option twice. Andy stops helping a client to help me and I appreciated the generosity but I asked the client if it was okay that he was helping me instead and they said it was fine. Andy added more acrylic as an attempt to fix it and make it thicker. Then he went back to his client and Amy stepped in to file and drill my nails. I had explained to all of them that I wanted straight coffin nails but none of them were able to achieve that so I just let them continue. (I explained to them over 6 times what I wanted and how to do it) I don't blame them for not being able to do it, maybe they couldn't understand me I'm not sure. After Amy was done shaping and drilling she started the paint and the light brown was fine. I had asked for dark brown lines to surround the tips but she only did the bottom. Then another woman stepped in to do the top coat because Amy was leaving and after the top coat was applied I noticed bubbles in my nails. So not only has the shape, design, and thickness gone wrong, i wasted 3 and a half hours and I'm stuck with nails that I didn't even want. I had spoken to the receptionist about getting some sort of discount but the least she said she was able to do is give me 10% off. The total was $85 and the discount made the total $75.60. Which isn't even $10 off. The lines themselves are $10 and there was much more wrong than just the lines. She told me I can pay in full instead so I can talk to the owner during normal business hours since she said giving me 10% off would be final sale. So I paid the full $85. I am hoping the owner calls me like the receptionist said. Until I get a call back about a refund, this place isn't ideal for you if you like your nails in a specific way. I give a 1 star since they did try to fix it but they still couldn't give me what I asked for. read more

I would've given this more stars, but I booked pedicures for my daughter and I at the same time. Her technician started right away, but I sat there for 20 minutes waiting for a technician, feet soaking in very hot water the whole time. I had prune toes by the time they started on me. My daughter had to sit there for 20 minutes at the end, waiting for me to be done. I'm not sure why they allowed us to book when they were obviously understaffed. Her technician seemed to be in a rush to get her feet done, I think because they had so many other people waiting. The actual pedicure was great. Just to clarify, we did book our appointments ahead of time. I received a confirmation text regarding the appointments, and a confirmation text again on the day of the appointment. Having booked ahead of time, my expectation was that there would be sufficient staff. I have no issue with the cost or quality of the pedicures themselves. The facility was clean, the pedicures were great, the technician did a great job working on my heels, and my toes look lovely. read more

The receptionist was very nice and got me in quickly. Helen did my mani and Ann did my pedi, and they were both really attentive, thorough. and friendly. To fix the broken nail, he added a tip and cut it without first confirming the length. I pointed out that it was shorter than the other nails, but if course, there was nothing that could be done at that point without completely restarting. I let it go, just wanting to be done with the service. He added builder gel and I could tell it was sloppily applied but just let it be. After filling and shaping, the side of the nail was completely filed down and the nail was awkwardly shaped. I pointed it out and he told me someone else would fix it, because apparently someone else was waiting on him, despite me making an appointment ahead of time. I just got up and said I would go somewhere else to fix everything. No one apologized or tried to rectify the situation. I just walked out. Edit: In direct reply to the business owner's response below: In no way was I trying to imply that I was misled into coming into the shop without knowing Anthony left. As I said, I hesitated at first, but made the decision on my own to come in anyway because my nail was broken and I had only been going to this shop for months. I was NOT expecting Anthony or his exact service when I came in. I'd like to erase this narrative that somehow I expected Anthony's service and communication style during this specific service. Based on my original review, I never once implied that. I only expected the technician to 1. Fix my broken nail and 2. Do clean work on my nails. Neither of those objectives were met. I am extremely disappointed in the shift of blame, as if I ever said that I needed someone to spend hours on my nails in order for the service to be deemed "good". In fact, it's one of the things I least liked about getting my nails done with Anthony! He was not fast, but at the very least I was happy with the way my nails looked. It's hilarious to think any woman would PREFER to spend "several" hours in a nail salon give me a break. It's funny how its being portrayed as if I have such impossibly high standards for my nails as if the service was not objectively sloppy (see pictures) !! You "didnt have a chance to recify the situation", but after I pointed out that the nail shape was messed up and told to go to another chair for someone else to fix it, I said out of my mouth "you know what, its fine I'll go somewhere else to have it fixed" I gathered all of my things and no one said anything. After said I would leave, no one said ANYTHING. Everyone moved on, which is fine! But don't make it seem like I just stormed out out of nowhere and no one knew what was going on. No one cared! Shout out to Tammy at D'Luxe nails on Las Positas who was able to see me shortly after leaving the shop and did a fantastic job fixing my nails and giving me a new fresh set (in less than an hour )

If you opt for a pedicure, I highly recommend getting the the honey pearl scent ( I believe that's what it was called). Oh my goodness, it smelled so good. I was tempted to close my eyes at one point, but I just know I would've fell asleep.
