Everything about the process - from selection to the proposal to the actual installation was handled with the highest level of professionalism. Laurie and David are both enjoyable to work with and have always been as transparent as possible and flexible. The work team headed by Ricardo handled everything extremely smoothly. Ricardo always went out of his way to provide and additional level of service. The team worked with special challenges like filling in a bay by our windows which had a 3/4" drop to make the entire floor level - and cut all edges to make it look as though the area was built just for the floor. Unfortunately there were many issues with Royal Oak Flooring. The first go round I was told they could match my kitchen floor to the rest of the house, not so. In addition, they put a glossy finish on the floors without consulting with me. The second time around, the sanding removed many of the pegs and almost all of the grooves but at least the color and polyurethane finish is what I requested. There were additional issues but I will keep those private...Laurie, if you are reading this you know what I am speaking about. read more

We had Beau install flooring in the 90s and refinish it about 15 years later. Good job both times. in October of 2018, we called them to repair water damage from a leak we repaired in the spring. They came in and sanded the warped boards in our hall and bedroom and refinished them. 8 months later the board are warping again. When I called them, Laurie proposed doing the same job again, for an additional $3500. I called another company In for a second opinion. They measured the moisture in the floor and said the wood was too wet to refinish. When I called Laurie to ask why they hadn't measured the moisture, she said she didn't know. I asked 'shouldn't a firm measure moisture in the floor when repairing water damage?'. She said she would ask and get back to me. SHE NEVER DID. Other messages to her have gone unanswered. She should refund us the money we paid in 2018, but I'm not holding my breath. As a side note, LA Flooring, came in, ripped out the warped flooring and damp plywood under it. Dried the concrete for a week , until moisture levels had been reduced to acceptable level, and relayed the flooring for $4,000. I will never use Royal Oak again. read more

We originally thought to refinish the existing floors in the new house we bought. When the team from Royal Oak started the job, it became apparent that it was not going to work out due to there not being enough wood to sand. We were disappointed in this development due to the cost of putting in a new floor in the entire downstairs of our home. Beau, the owner, was very sympathetic to our situation and gave us a nice discount on new flooring. He made it clear he was going to make us happy not only in the price, but also the type of flooring and the time frame. We had a toilet leak that damaged our wood floors. It was just a small job but needed to be done. Royal Oak came through! Laurie called us and got things scheduled quickly. They removed the damaged flooring and replaced it so we could have a new toilet put in. Rafael showed up on time, was very efficient, pleasant - a real pro - and cleaned up when done. For what I needed I found royal oak, I went in to the store to see some wood floors, I for sure thought I was getting a great deal. Good thing I didn't pull the trigger and put in the order, I asked around and reviewed other stores on yelp and found that they were charging me 3times what others were charging me.... After I when back to them to see if the price that I got from them was for the same wood everyone else was charging me the owner of the store started bad mouthing all the other stores and said that I can go to the other stores cause he has enough customers.... Very rude, over priced.... Trust me shop around there are better people then royal oak. read more

The workers were very nice and I thought good until we had a problem. Our floor broke in one area of the house and when I called Laurie to let her know and even mentioned that I would be happy to pay for their time, she took my first call then ghosted me after that until I caught on and stared calling from numbers she did not have on file for me. She then instantly picked up and when I asked her when she was going to address the problem she started screaming at me that she had some personal problems and that I should get some empathy because " IT'S ONLY A FUCKING FLOOR" then hung up on me. I called her over 8 times the last 10 weeks and the last 2 calls were insanely rude and filled with profanity from her. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. I have NEVER been treated so badly. I had the whole condo done (except bathrooms) with Royal Oak. They refinished the existing red oak floor in the Living, Dining and Hallway and add a new one (perfectly matched it) to the 3 bedrooms and kitchen where they removed carpet and tiles. They had to create plywood sub-floor on the way because there was none! A bad surprise you can see only when the carpet is removed. That didn't change the delivery date which was... the day after Christmas. The perfect gift! I love my floor. The crew was efficient and polite and Beau is a charm to work with... Had hallway,stairs and family room floors refinished by Royal Oak. Had master bedroom carpet removed and new oak floors put in. While living in the house! (I recommend staying else where but was not an option.) Wood was delivered so it could cure. Turned out it was wrong size. Had to be taken out and right size brought in which for some reason did not need to acclimate. The crews who worked on the different phases were all polite & tried to be neat as one can be with mounds of saw dust. Had to get a hotel the night they did the staining because smell was too much. Few stops and starts but owner Beau promised the floors would be done before my daughters birthday party and they were. Would give 5 stars if not for the scheduling glitches which were in part due to a bit of over scheduling in my opinion. The floors look wonderful and I would use Royal Oak in the future. read more

we had to use a general contractor for work on our home from a robbery (the burglars thrashed our house). This company was TriTech and the Flooring company they use is Royal Oak. The work was supposed to be just tearing up some of the floor and replacing that with hardwood, then sanding and refinishing the whole thing. During the middle of the job TriTech/Royal Oak noticed that there was a lot of moisture that came up thru the concrete and we had to some testing for leaks and long story short the subfloor in my home was totally wet. My previous hardwood floor had buckled. Royal Oak/ TriTech had to pull out the sub floor and water proof the concrete and then lay new sub floor then lay new hardwood. This was done quickly and professionally and we are very happy they took many steps to waterproof the concrete, which is critical to the Floors not warping. The floors are acclimating now and will be sanded and finished in a few weeks. So far it was a great experience working with them. i will write a follow up reivew after the job and post photos read more

Horrible - we would give ZERO reviews if we could. First impression: Beau is a great salesman, he will say whatever it takes to get your business (in our case, we were promised, "not just good... perfect!". Do not trust any of it. Reality: Completely unsupervised, horrible quality work, covered up by slippery sales guy who "out of the goodness of his heart" asked to be paid early, prior to any walk-through or inspection ("so my guys can get paid by the weekend"), and then when their are issues insists that it is the house itself, not the work, and that inherently there is no way to have decent looking hardwood given our slab foundation and the way our house is built. Also, when we questioned the thin unfinished appearance of the wood (even in areas that were not loose and uneven), he cited environmental laws not inferior products as an excuse and only offered to give us another coat of the same inferior seeming finish (even though, clearly, there is a lot of new construction with beautiful looking new hardwood floors). The floors in adjacent rooms we did not re-finish have a far more beautiful surface today than the floors we hired Beau to re-do, thank goodness we kept them at least. Day one: shoddy looking finish, loose boards (that jiggled when you stepped on them) and planks separating from one another almost leaving splinter type roughness on top. We got a separate opinion immediately, and his opinion was that the only way to fix this was to literally start over from scratch and do the job right. We complained immediately and Beau once again gave his sales pitch (you are fine!), but at the same time insisted that "perfection" was not possible given our house, and only offered to add more glue for the loose boards and do another coat (without fixing the uneven areas or re-sanding). Today: The loose uneven boards are so unsightly as to be something we cannot tolerate even though we had originally wanted to (we have other upgrades and priorities, but unfortunately they must wait). We paid top dollar to Beau, and regret every penny we paid. Sadly, we must save and then hire someone else to start over and this time do it right. Beau is a middle man, not an active supervisor, and simply takes a huge cut of your fee which, in our case, appears to have come out the materials used and the time they are willing to invest to do the job right. He is a an amazing salesperson, however, so if you get a bid from him take everything with a grain of salt and watch out. read more

Beau seems like a great guy but his team installed about 1200 sq ft of hardwood in what seemed like a rush. Turns out they didn't properly prep the concrete floor below and the glue and flooring started coming up- not just in a few spots but probably 30 plus boards. They came by twice to inject more glue and that just made the problem worse. I'm now getting bids to tear out all their work and start fresh. What a waste of 10k. read more

If you are looking for new hardwood floors, Royal Oak Hardwoods is the only company to hire. We had just recently moved into our dream house, and after doing months of repairs and painting, and deliveries and moving and selling our old home, we were exhausted from dealing with so many service people and companies. We felt like we just couldn't face one more service person. But we knew we had to just surrender and spend a week with more workmen so we could get rid of some really awful, threadbare wall to wall sisal, and have the hardwood installed. We investigated a handful of companies and started our visits to the storefronts. But after visiting Royal Oak's store in Tarzana and meeting Laurie, we suddenly found ourselves thinking... this is the place. Which was surprising since we were still in leary-mode after several disappointing experiences with companies who promised the moon and then way underdelivered. Laurie offered a bright hello when we walked in and told us to look around. We did, and a little while later, she asked if we had any questions. We told her what we thought we wanted, and in our discussion, we discovered we actually wanted a different product. It was going to be a big investment for us, and researching online is good. But then to have a discussion with someone who has been doing this for years and knows everything about all of the hardwood providers and products, that was gold. She made what we thought was going to be an overwhelming experience into a non-stressful and even enjoyable one. We had decided on walnut, and she showed us a dozen samples - explaining the pros and cons of each. We narrowed it down to five, and she sent us home with samples so we could see how they looked in our home. We lived with them a few days, and the choice of color and brand became clear to us. After we decided, Bo the owner, came out to measure the rooms. He was funny, sweet, and truly excited for us. Yu can tell he loves what he does. He took time to explain the entire process, what would happen from tearing out the horrible sisal, to prepping the cement slab, the installation, clean up, and tips on how to care for the floor. For the install, we had Shawn and Christian, and we can't recommend them highly enough. We have never had such prompt, cheerful, knowledgable, considerate and neat workers ever, Which was good because we had both come down with the world's worst colds the day before they began, so the whole time they were there working, we were in the house every minute, no escape. But the experience was fine. They were on time everyday, and always in the best of moods. They cleaned up at the end of the day, and you would never know anyone was there. No dust, no mess, nothing. And the floors. They are so beautiful. We still can't get over them. The job they did was just fabulous. And our floors presented a challenge. The two rooms we did are very large, each with a fireplace, and the second room had a wall that angled away. So the choice of laying the wood so that it looked squar to the several door openings, was tricky. But Shawn nailed it. Which was good, because if the pattern hadn't been straight from every doorway, it would have driven me nuts. Instead, we are so happy. Our floors are gorgeous, and if we had known it could be done this easily, we never would have waited so long. Give Laurie or Bo at Royal Oak a call. Or just stop by. They refinished our wood floors and repaired a section and I am very unhappy with their work. It appears that they did not clean the floors well before staining, so I have stain on top of saw dust making the finish dull and the floors feel rough to the touch. The guy who bided the job, who was supposedly the owner, must of never back to do quality control of his workers. Also, the repair they did, the wood they used to replace what was there is already curling on the edges and now rough to walk over and makes the repair obvious to see. Our house was also robbed shortly after the work they did, and what was stolen made it appear the person knew where things were in the house. Not calling them guilty, but the coincidence makes one wonder. Stay away from these guys. read more

I have been in construction my entire life and because of this I wanted the best workmanship for the best price possible. After researching the wood flooring industry (other installers and flooring companies for prices and procedures) I contacted royal oak hardwood floor's based on someone's personal recommendation. The owner of the company was a delight to work with very cordial, easy to speak with, knowledgeable and willing to work with you. I am glad I went with this company after seeing the way they approach the job, the workmanship, the time and effort they spent making the house perfect I realize I could've paid more and I could have paid less and still have gotten pretty lousy job it wouldn't have mattered. This comment is based on conversations with how others had proposed to do the job. The truth is no matter what people promise you if the workers are not skilled enough or motivated enough you're going to get a mediocre job. You can tell the owner and workers enjoy what they do and take pride in their work. I wouldn't think of using anyone else the next time around. The Studio City house looks fantastic! Terrible. The work was unsupervised and the results were horrible. The owner said they knew how to do peg and groove but the grooves are all crooked. It would appear that they had no experience doing peg and groove. That was in our dining room. At the same time, they installed a bamboo floor in a powder room. But they used the wrong glue. It is now several years later and the glue continues to ooze up between the boards. Every few months or so I have to break out the knee pads and get down on the floor and use turpentine to wipe off the glue. We spent thousands and no effort to make either floor right was offered. We have had a lot of work done to our home in the eight years we have lived here. No vendor has ever screwed us over worse than Royal Oak. read more

I used royal oak hardwood again years later for my parent's house. I had 1200 sf of pink carpet pulled out and replaced with Cali Bamboo. Once again, Royal Oak hardwood did not disappoint and did an excellent job. Once again, I trusted them alone in the house as I live an hour from my parent's house. They moved furniture and cleaned up after themselves. If I had another house, I wouldn't hesitate to call them. read more

They installed my flooring in the appropriate amount of time as we were moving in and just closed escrow. The material is much less durable than was explained to me and now some of the boards are lifting and the glue is showing. After two phone calls and one email there has been no return call. Just make sure you hold back a sizeable amount of money at the end for a week or so in case they have to come back after the job is completed. It's been two years now and I'm out of luck with the glue issue. read more

I had a very tight window in which my floors had to be done. We had a tenant moving in on a date that could not be changed. I was assured that the floors would be done by then and they delivered however there were some panicky moments along the way. After the first day, the floors weren't stained dark enough and I became nervous that they might not be done in time. Also, the guys staining the floors assured me it was exactly the same as the color I had showed them, which it was not. I had to be very persistent to get them to stain it even darker which was frustrating especially because I was on a tight deadline and I could tell they didn't want to re-do the work. In the end the floors are exactly how I wanted them. They look fantastic and Beau, the owner, and his son bended over backwards to make sure they met my deadline and gave me exactly what I wanted. He also threw in a free Bona kit for cleaning the floors. read more
