We are so happy with our 1947 hardwood floor newly refinished by Jose and his great crew. Jose pointed out some problems during the estimate and how to repair them, including them in the estimate rather than coming to us later with additions. And when some thin boards were discovered during sanding that required replacement after 75 years of high traffic, the cost addition was reasonable and the workmanship flawless. Jose stained some test areas for us after sanding and guided us to a color choice that minimized the difference between the original red oak and a newer area with white oak, and now you can barely tell where the two types meet. At the end when we decided we wanted an extra coat with semi-gloss rather than satin the cost addition was again reasonable. We could not be happier with the final result and recommend Jose and All About Wood Floors wholeheartedly! read more

All About Wood did an "EXCELLENT" job on replacing my hardwood floors. This was not an easy job. I started the job by removing a small section myself. I used rented demo hammers on carts and several helpers. I got through 250 square feet in 10 hours. All About Wood brought in a state of the art machine to remove the glued down wood from the concrete and was done in no time. It completed the same 250 square feet in less than an hour doing a better cleaner job. There is no other way to do this right. It takes a professional. We unexpectedly discovered hardwood floors in our new 1950's home a few blocks away from the All About Wood store (across from the Home Depot, our second home lol). We stopped into the store on a whim and found the worker to be super knowledgeable and connected us to Jose right away, who came out to give us an estimate the same day. We had a couple more estimates and Jose's was the lowest AND had the fasted estimated turn around time, which was important so we could finish moving in! In a week we had the living room, 2 bedrooms, 2 hallways and a closet replaced/repaired, sanded, and finished (we chose a natural coat instead of a stain). There was a $500 price increase after the work had already started, supposedly due to some unexpected repair work around the old heating vent and a couple other places, which we sort of felt like should have already been included in the original estimate because these areas were visible during the walkthrough and not a surprise....but we also still felt like we were getting a good deal and appreciated the speed at which the services were being provided so we didn't fight it. We know we are greatly increasing the value of our new home with our beautiful "new" hardwood floors, and we would definitely call on All About Wood for future work! read more

I contacted All About Wood to work on the floor of a room and a closet. Jose Luis was very responsive and came out the next day and gave me estimates on the spot. His crew showed up the next day on a Saturday and got everything I needed done that day. Workmanship was beautiful. Pricing was fair. One thing I really appreciate was that they did not ask for any payment until the job is done and you are 100% satisfied. I would definitely work with this crew again. I found All About Wood while searching online for a place to purchase a specific maple wood floor that I had seen at a different store, but the price was exorbitant there and the people were not very helpful. I spoke with Juan Pablo at All About Wood, the very knowledgeable and friendly owner. He had a more reasonable price, so I had him order the floor (we wanted the whole 1500 sq. ft. house in North Hollywood to be uniform after living with five different floors from when we moved in twenty years ago). I asked Juan Pablo about installation and he mentioned his brother Jose, but was not not pushy about me choosing him. I got three estimates, including one from Jose. I chose him because a) he also agreed to replace all the door frames and moldings at our place, b) the price was the best of the three, and, most importantly, c) he was the most friendly, and we hit it off very well. The foreman of the job was Jorge, who was amazing. If every worker were as professional, attentive to detail, and congenial as Jorge, no one would ever complain about "bad contractors". He and all his helpers were great. There was only one little accident (a chip as they were laying the floor in the tile adjacent to the bedroom hallway), but Jorge took care of that without any cost. I'm amazed that with all they did, there was only one almost insignificant problem. I've had a lot of construction jobs done at my house, and that is very rare. And I'm sure that if there had been a bigger issue, Jose and Jorge would have made it right! It's a big deal to have to move all your furniture and stuff and to live in a construction zone for a few weeks, but All About Wood made the process less stressful, and the result is absolutely fabulous. We love our new floors which really make the house more warm, up-to-date, and fancy. Thanks to everyone who helped on this project~! read more

This wood company sold the installer that I hired supposedly real wood.... turned out that it was not only not real wood it was plastic. The moment I put a chair on it there were dents ... not scratches.. dents in the floor . After many months of back and forth they refused to change the wood and only agreed to give me the same wood to finish the rest of my home. The original installer never came back to finish the job unless he was paid the rest of his $1000. Up front before the job was finished. The wood installer was Salvador from Ely Hardwood Floring ... very disappointed that there are people out there that want to take money and not do the job properly as stated in our contract. read more

Well, I guess I will be the 5th person to review this company, and it's not going to be as pretty as the previous 4 reviews. I hired this company 6 yrs ago to refinish our 1500 sq. ft. of oak floors and change the color to a more espresso color. They did a great job back then. So when we had a slab leak on about 200 sq. ft., recently, I called them again because I wanted them to match the existing color. They finally came to take a look, (3 wks after my first call), quoted me the same price to replace, stain, varnish 200 sq.ft., replace baseboard in same area, as they did 6 yrs ago fo:r moving furniture, sanding, staining, varnishing, 1500 sq. ft of floor, 15 stairs, a banister along the stairs and wood ledges around the living room. Because matching the color was a priority, I agreed to hire them. I was dealing with Jose Luis Contreras, same as the first time. He estimated it would take 2-3 days. Well, it took a total of 9 days, 4hrs here, 5hrs there, spread out over several months. (in fairness, we did have a couple of 1 week vacations planned in there). His guys would show up at about 10:30, take a 1hr lunch, and leave at 4:00. That's why it took nearly 9 days over 2 mos. My wife was dealing with them and she asked the workers why there were several areas where the wood planks were "lifting" and Jose Luis said "don't worry, they have to settle in still". When they finished, we left on vacation the next day. We were gone 10 days, came home, those areas were even worse, "splitting" in the areas that were raised, where the planks joined. We are literally tripping over them. Because we had a death in the family, we were finally able to call Jose Luis again (6 wks after they finished), and he said he "was too busy" to come and repair the damaged areas. He promised to call us in 2 weeks to set up a day/time to come back. Well that day came and passed and we still have not heard from him. Who owns this place anyway? Is this standard operating procedures for this place? What happened to the hard working honest people we first encountered 6yrs ago? Those previous 4 reviews are most likely employees/relatives.
