It's a little hard to find where to park, but you want the street perpendicular to what Google Maps tells you. I wish I had brought my board! It's the only park in Detroit and I found out my AirBnB was right next to it before I left to go back home. But, that's another story. Gaining popularity with Detroit's growing skateboarding scene, Ride It has attracted professional Skateboarders & BMXers, as well as the neighborhood kids. I've seen the youngn's crossing the freeway with their bike & board in hand, eagerly awaiting to visit the skatepark. As recreational facilities close left & right with the city's ongoing financial woes, Ride It has become an oasis for these kids. If you're not from this area & would like to visit this Skatepark know the following: (1.) It's located off of Davison East (at Klinger St) - Yes, it's in the hood! (2.) There's a parking lot directly behind the park. (3.) Open from dawn til dusk.

NEGATIVES: Hours of operation SUCK during the weekends; there are almost no mirrors; arbitrary rules and regulations, like what kind of shirts men have to wear and where you can bring workout equipment; many cardio and cable machines are perpetually out of order; staff is seldom cleaning or organizing weights.

I was in and around Campus Martius all week as my employer's Detroit office is in the immediate…read morearea. It is a beautiful park in downtown Detroit (at least in the day time) and with the shaded tables, a perfect spot for a bite or a drink on a super hot day. Named Campus Martius for "Field of Mars" it is the reference point for Detroit's "mile" roads. Look for the Zero Mile Marker on the ground - Seven Mile and Eight Mile are precisely seven and eight miles from this spot, respectively. It was originally a militia drill ground back in the 1800s and the First Michigan Infantry Regiment departed from Campus Martius in 1861 for the Civil War. The park opened in 2004 and includes the beautiful Woodward Fountain, a seasonal ice rink and a seasonal beach. The - Michigan Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument is also here. I have only biked this park. The best feature is the extensive size of this park. There is a…read morededicated pedestrian/biking path on one side of the park. Hines Drive runs through the center of the park and is wide enough to accomodate bikes. Some sections get a little tight, but you can steer back onto the asphalt path if you are on the right lane. Generally, heading west towards Ann Arbor has less traffic. At one point, a group of my friends took the trail onto connecting paths all the way to Ann Arbor. Aside from biking, the park has something for everyone. If you choose to drive, some areas have a parking alongside playgrounds, softball fields, golfing, gardens, and picnic area. Hines Park is the the great connector for numerous smaller parks. As with much of Michigan, the roads could be better maintained, but this green oasis is a gift to the greater Detroit metro area.
