Wow! Royal Thai under new ownership is fantastic! Trust me, you have to try this place! The Thai food is absolutely delicious...the best in Central Ohio...seriously! You can get it from not spicy hot at all to smoking hot...from 0-10 spicy hot. My wife doesn't like spicy and I loved it...she got her Pad Thai not spicy and it was sweet. I got mine hot but could only do level #5 spicy and that was hot! My son-in-law has had level 8, and says it was really really spicy hot but very good! It's worth the drive from Columbus, and Heath is really growing, try Royal Thai and a movie at the Indian Mound Mall across the street...great fun! read more

We have been there half a dozen times and the food has always been good but the service has been bad. Went today and the fried rice was burnt tasting and smelling. I had already mixed it with half my food. They wanted to mark the rice off my order when half my food was ruined from the rice. We asked for half an order to replace the bad part. The woman owner was really rude and treated us awful. Then she tried to take all my food and refused to replace it and refused to taste that it was burnt. All I can say is "wow"...best Thai ever. I tried their Pad Thai and the Tilapia Curry. The fish was flavourful and well seasoned...the curry made with fresh herbs and spices. I had a lovely conversation with the owner while waiting for my food, and she told me that in the summer she uses vegetables and herbs grown organically in her own garden. And it shows. Eat here and you'll wonder why these people aren't cooking in a bigger town. I've eaten at Thai restaurants from London to San Francisco, and I've had food as good, but not better. If mangoes are in season, make sure to have the sticky rice with mango. read more

I was passing through town on my way to DC and stopped in for takeout. I had drunken noodle with chicken and gyoza. The food was excellent. Fresh veg, nice chicken, very flavorful. The gyoza were perfect as well. Moreover, the owner and family were extremely gracious hosts. Welcoming and friendly and helpful. Apparently the current owner is relatively new and determined to recapture this spot's glory. Check it out if you like Thai food. Sawasdee! As someone who goes to Thailand several times a year I know good Thai food. I assume you, Royal Thai is the real thing! Staying next door at the Hampton Inn I didn't want to drive anywhere. I checked old reliable Trip Advisor and lo and behold Royal Thai was right next door. After reading some good reviews I thought I'd give it a try. I'm soon glad I did!, Their Pad Thai (shrimp for me) was fabulous! As good as any (and even better than some) of the Pad Thai dishes I've had in Thailand. Updating my review since the restaurant has new owners. I have been here several times since the new owners took over and the food is always good. They seemed to have settled in on a great menu (they were considering adding all sorts of stuff at the beginning - eg. sushi) and I've been happy with everything I've eaten there. My issue with Royal Thai is the service. I typically order take-out and service isn't an issue. The owner seemed to not care about the customers. I watched as she was rather uninviting to several of the people who came in. She ignored questions and barely spoke. Maybe she had an off day. I get it. Part of the service issue is the fee they charge for sharing a dish. I was a little surprised by a mystery charge of $6 on my bill. When I asked about it, the owner immediately got defensive and said, "it's on the menu." She explained that it's a fee for sharing dishes. They charge $3 for each person not ordering a dish. In our case, we had six people who shared four dishes. She explained, "it's not fair to us if not everyone orders food" and "we charge for food and seats." She went and got a menu to prove it is in fact listed on the menu and it is (on the back, in small print, at the bottom). It seems short-sighted to me to charge people for plate-sharing. And the soda always seems to be flat. read more

I'm a sucker for Thai food and this place delivers. It isn't gourmet or fancy, it's just basic dishes but they use fresh ingredients and have great flavors. The pad thai never disappoints but what I really love are the appetizers. The chicken satay is especially good. Prices aren't bad and service is more than adequate. I've been going here for years! The old owners were wonderful and the food was amazing and this still stands true today with the new owners! I used to get custom made vegan pad thai from the old owners, I knew them pretty well. The recipe is a bit different with the new owners but still delicious. Passing thru and stopped for dinner. Read reviews and they were favorable. We were a little Leary when no one else was there. Tired and hungry so decided to give it a chance. We are so glad we did!! Waitress come immediately, was very pleasant and helpful. Ordered chicken wings for appetizer and they were fresh, crispy and delicious. The food came quickly and the portions were enormous. Everything on this menu is delicious! The masaman curry is my favorite dish though i haven't eaten anything i don't like yet. They have a seriously good pineapple fried rice as well. It's surprising to find such good Thai food outside of a big city. I suggest taking friends from out of town to this place as it's the only Thai restaurant for about 20 miles and truely unique. It's nice and straight forward as far as decor and presentation. They even put little veggie carvings on the side of their dishes! The server remembers us every time we eat there too!!! read more

Sadly, I had a bad soup experience. The bowl was small. The mushrooms were old, the very many onions were in large squares and not cooked enough, the celery leaves were OK, not a single fresh herb and the spice level was not as requested. Fantastic! Large portions and absolutely delicious! Started with the Tom Ka Gai soup at a level 2 of spice. Was plenty spicy for me and a very generous portion. Had the chicken panang curry entree at a level 2, and it was perfect. Huge portion, a good amount of chicken and tons of red/green peppers and fresh green beans. Lots of perfectly balanced sauce too. Everything is made from scratch. Never disappointed in the jumbo shrimp and freshly cut veggies in the curries. This is GOURMET Asian fare. They ask how hot you want your food. I prefer between mild and spicy, so I get level 2 (level #3 seems 'hot' to me). My husband goes for a level 4 (and says it's hot). If you want hot-hot, you can go to level 10! Husband and wife team own it and are good people. The service is good, although only one server. We're always seated immediately but expect wait times for the food. It's small with no booths, but the atmosphere is cozy and relaxing. There's a mirrored wall on one side of the restaurant which gives it a bigger feel. We are entertained by the television shows playing on the large TV, and sometimes make a game of interpreting the plot. The only 'negative' is that they're closed on weekends (I think). Omg I have been craving good authentic Thai food for 6 months and stumbled on to royal Thai. I took my 2 teenagers and it completely satisfied my craving. I had spicy calamari that came out crispy and saucy and on top of crispy lettuce. Perfect!! My daughter had perfect pad Thai and my son had the royal Thai. All 3 dinners did not disappoint. The Thai tea is a must as well. The check came to 48.00 not bad cause we r stuffed and each took leftovers home. Ohhh I forgot we had calamari for the appetizer too. However I don't recommend that.
