WHY does this place have to be all the way in Granville? Guess I'll be making regular trips because oh. my. goodness. I had heard nothing but good things about Mai Chau and they definitely lived up to the hype. We started with cheese curds that were both chewy from the cheese and crispy from the breading. We inhaled the cheese curds in like 5 minutes flat. For my main I tried three different steamed buns: fried mushroom, Japanese fried chicken, and my favorite, fried pork belly. I also stole a bite of my fiancé's tofu banh mi and I'm pretty sure I've had dreams about it since trying it. The banh mi is definitely what I'll order next time I'm there. Ordered takeout. It was super easy to get. They give you a time and it was ready by that time. It is labeled with your name on it to pick up and you go and grab it. My favorite thing I ordered was the pork belly potstickers. These were good and the dipping sauce was good. We also ordered spring rolls. The Thai sauce that comes with them is so good. The spring rolls are okay by themselves. I personally was not a fan of the Pho. It tasted to floral for me. We ordered the noodle bowl with lemongrass chicken which was pretty good depending on what you like. The peanut sauce is not super flavorful and it is more of a hint of peanut. My mom was not a fan. We ordered three different steamed buns which were all decent. The tempura shrimp was spicy. The hamburger one was probably my least favorite and the chicken one was my favorite. read more

I've been wanting to check out Mai Chau since they moved into this brick and mortar location (before that, it was just their food truck). I'm a big steam bun fan, and always on the lookout for good quality tasting fair of the like. Menu is via QR scan at each table. Their buns are $3.50/piece, or 3/$9; I got the later option. Order of pork rinds to hold us over. Heads up, their pork rinds are cooked to order, came out cracklin at our table. Very, very tasty! They're lightly dusted in a honey Aleppo (pepper) seasoning that was a perfect match to the savory pork fat. Buns verdict: Pretty dang good bun - slightly sweet, soft and squishy in a good way. Held together pretty well. The Tempura Shrimp bun was great! Warning, the ginger slaw (loved it!) is saucy, so don't let the bun sit, as the liquid easily breaks thru the bottom of the bun. Very tasty, nonetheless! Pork Belly was very good. If the pork belly could have been a tad thicker, a bit less fried, it would have been spectacular. The spicy sweet Mai Chau sauce was good, and it went really well with the fried pork piece and fresh pickled cucumber. The Japanese Fried Chicken - Karaage style, was also very good. I do wish the deep fried chicken thigh were a bit thicker, too, but there were several small pieces, so that help fill it out. The miso ginger cabbage paired with perfectly with the spicy mayo. Overall, my first impression of Mai Chau was solid. I'd have no problem making a return visit, specially if in the area anyway. This review is for takeout experience only. We were out enjoying the charm of downtown Granville and popped by to take home some dinner. We tried both the noodle bowl and the rice bowl, both with lemongrass chicken. We also got an order of spring rolls. The spring rolls were so crunchy and tasty. The bowls were very heavy on the starch (tons of noodles), but super skimpy on the chicken and veggies. We also could have used twice as much peanut sauce as what they gave you. Tasted great, we would just ask for "double meat and veggies" next time. (I was hungry a few hours after we ate). That peanut sauce is magical. "Tigers bite" cocktails were strong. Mai Chau is pretty good. It's located in Three Tigers Brewing. You can order beer and food at the same time. It can get crowded at the bar. This is okay since they have plenty of tables. I had the noodle bowl. It comes with a choice of protein. This is about $9 but it's a large amount though. Among the protein choices are beef, chicken, and tofu made with chili spice. I had it with the tofu. The bowl was a pretty big size, so it was it's money's worth. It's one of the best Asian options in Granville. Much better than that Chinese place on Main Street. Two words: STEAMED. BUNS. Three words: OF YOUR DREAMS I'm vegetarian so I only tried the mushroom bun, but holy Vietnamese snacks, Batman it was delicious. The sauce was spicy yet tangy and a perfect compliment to the crispy mushrooms. My sister tried the others and said they were all incredible, the karaage one being her fave. They all were absolutely beautiful. Presentation here is awesome, everything looks so fresh and brightly colored. The rice bowl with tofu was delisshhh. I love peanut sauce so this was a dang TREAT. I would love to come back and try more, Granville is such a cute little area and I love walking around grabbing snacks. The vibe here is super chill, kind of tight seating though so probably really crowded during dinner/lunch hours (I was here around 3 on a Saturday). My friend and I had been craving Pho, so on a super hot Saturday, we decided to stop in for dinner. It was my first time, so I'm happy I had her with me to explain how one said was the brewery and one side for the food, but they were connected, it just changed how you actually had someone take your order. We went early enough that we didn't have any trouble finding a table, but it got busier as the evening went on. We both ordered the combination pho, and I added on a summer roll and a watermelon margarita. The margarita was very refreshing - we decided to describe it as what we'd envisioned had come through the garden house direct from the garden to my glass. The summer roll was good, although I missed that there wasn't any shrimp in it as I'd grown to expect. There's a chance that I just didn't read the description on the menu good enough to know that it wasn't included, though. The peanut sauce that came with it was very good - thick and very peanut-buttery. Our pho arrived quickly. I was a little sad to find out the topping boxes are pre-packaged, so there was no way to eliminate the cilantro from mine. I don't have an allergy, but hate cilantro so much that it really ruins dishes for me. I tried to do the best I could to pick out the other toppings without it, but it was chopped small so some escaped into my bowl. The meat was very good and the broth was oh so flavorful! I had a love-hat relationship with the chunks of onion - they're good and I enjoyed them in there but I wished that they'd been cut maybe 1-2 more times before going in, as it was really difficult to eat. I couldn't finish it all as the portion was very large (so great value for what you pay!) so I did take some home to eat for lunch the next two days. The noodles soaked up a lot of the broth and were mushy, so I wouldn't recommend having it beyond the initial day on purpose, but all the flavors were still there to enjoy. We just had the pleasure of trying Mai Chau at the Vintage Market event held at the Branstool Orchard. We got the Banh Mi sandwich with Sriracha Pulled Pork. So tender and tasty. The toasted French baguette was fresh, warm, and had a perfect crunch. The spicy mayo and jalapeño added just the right kick to the cucumber, ginger slaw, and cilantro. We also had the Noodle bowl with lemongrass grilled chicken . The smell had my belly rumbling before I ever took my first bite. My bowl was filled with tender vermicelli rice noodles, cucumber, carrot, bean sprouts, cilantro, crushed peanuts, fried garlic, soy sauce, and house made peanut sauce. Mai's food was so flavorful, yet not overwhelming-just the right balance. My mom and I went here for dinner, and the service was super quick even for the 6 o'clock rush. Pho was delicious but portion was bit smaller than most other Vietnamese restaurant in columbus. Fried pork peanut sauce noodle was very nice and big portion. My favorite was steamed bun 3 for $9. Freshly cooked meat and vegetable harmonize nicely. Only reason I give 4 star instead of 5 due to bad parking conditions, probably no more than 3 car can park at the backside of building otherwise you have to find street parking space. Fun meal from Mai Chau (sat on the Three Tigers brewing side of the building); shared the Thai curry wings (best part of the meal-- crispy yet juicy with a sweet/spicy sauce), noodle bowl, and steam buns. The noodle bowl with pork belly was fresh tasting (good amount of veggies and light noodles), though it seemed a little light on flavor (could have used more/stronger sauces or something). The steam buns had great combinations of flavors (like tempura shrimp and creamy cabbage), but the protein portion of each was super small (good thing the veggies and buns themselves were tasty). Service (again, at the tableside service part of the establishment , not the counter service side) was excellent, and our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable, quick to check on us, etc. Live music added to to ambience. We had a nice experience at mai chau. Very friendly faces behind the counter, nice decor, good music, and a quaint little shop. We have been dying to try the steamed buns and were very excited to hear that a place in our county was serving them! While I was hoping for a bit more "fluff" to the buns, the dough was nice and had a nice color. My only issue was that they were $3 a piece and not very filling. Id have to eat $18 worth to be full and I'm no over eater. I HIGHLY recommend the mushroom steamed buns! Very crispy and so very flavorful that I ate them slowly to really savor the flavor. ;) The sweet tea is absolutely amazing. Really. Best cup of tea I've been served in a hot minute. A nice black tea with a little cream added to cut the sweetness and it's a very beautiful orange color. Do yourself a favor and get the tea. Trust me. Lastly we ordered the pork cracklins they had on special. This was a nice surprise to see. The seasoning was to die for but our cracklins weren't cooked evenly and we had pieces that were soggy and some that were very hard. Contrary to the name of the place, this is not authentic Viet food, it's a twist on Viet cuisine thought up by the owners and you'll find lots of different influences in their dishes. I had to try out their ph, so after eyeing the menu I decided on the phõ [combo] while my dining companion went with the pork belly vermicelli noodle bowl with peanut sauce, which I am not sure works with this dish, and I do like peanut sauce. Mai Chau is a good break from the general soup/sandwich/salad fare in Granville. My favorite dishes are the pulled pork bahn mi (lots of jalapeños) and any of the rice bowls (the peanut sauce is so good!). A lunch will run between $10-15. read more

The restaurant's sign says it all, its Vietnamese inspired, so don't expect authentic Vietnamese dishes. There is a multitude of delicious flavors for their chicken wings, so they will definitely satisfy your taste buds. The pho is overpriced for the portion you would normally get at a typical pho restaurant; however, it does have good flavor. I highly recommend ordering the steamed buns. They are all delicious with a crunchy texture, but my two favorites are the shrimp tempura and fried chicken. The banh mi is decent as it has good texture inside and out. The flavor is close to what a real banh mi tastes. Additionally, the restaurant packs the sandwich generously. You will definitely get full from this meal. The staff are respectful, welcoming, and timely to customer needs. I was so excited to try Mai Chau since it opened right after I moved out of Granville. Upon returning, it was one of the places I had to go visit! We went during the early afternoon for a late lunch! My boyfriend and I both got the noodle bowls, I got tofu and he got the chicken! The presentation was great and the food tasted good but definitely wasn't anything special. The sauce is peanut based, nothing spicy! I would like to try the three tigers brewing on the other side, it wasn't open that early in the day! Their staff was very nice! Basically, I'm giving the restaurant an extra star mainly for the nice waitress who comped our sodas since we had a long wait. I only had the pho. The broth was pretty good, but the noodles were a tad overcooked and therefore a teensy mushy. Some of the meat tasted like it had been in the fridge a few days. Also, it was a quite small bowl for the price. Now, granted, I'm still trying to compare the pho here to the pho in the Seattle area, but even for the Columbus area, the price was about the same as the price for quite a bigger bowl. I would have had the "summer rolls" (aka fresh rolls and even sometimes spring rolls), but the restaurant was out. I also did not order the banh mi, a sandwich which can be had in the Seattle area for as low as $3.50, because it was $9. So perhaps it is a very tasty banh mi, but at that price, I would actually take the time and effort to make the pickled carrot and cucumber as well as specially season the meat. A companion thought his pho was quite tasty, however, and another enjoyed her rice bowl, which was about the same size as the pho bowl - and also cost about the same. Still, without the sodas, the meal ran less than $10 apiece and was filling. So would definitely go again with others who had enjoyed it a bit more than I had. read more

Reservations confirmed unfortunately I have seen Mai Chau around the campus area for quite some time, but had reservations on whether to try them out. They were in attendance at a foodtruck roundup at Easton though so finally gave them a shot. First thing I noticed was that They were out of spring rolls. So I decided to go with the Banh Mi (i think that is how to spell it). I asked what it was and the gentleman told me it was like a korean sub sandwich. I chose chicken as my meat. When I received it i knew I wasn't going to be pleased. The toppings were white onions and shredded carrots; a lot of both. The french baguette bread was thick, way too thick for my liking. The chicken was dry and lacking flavor. I didn't even finish the sandwich, it just was not appealing. I probably won't be trying their food again. read more
