WOW is all I can say about the burgers here. I've been here twice and both times solely for the burgers. My boyfriend is a meatlover and I consider him pretty experienced in the ''burger" sector and he has said that this is the second best burger he's ever had (and he's had a LOT of burgers). THis to me says a lot. However, I can make up my own mind as well...and well...I've pretty much named this burger as THE best burger I've ever had (sorry dad). They are juicy and flavorful and always prepared how you ask. The price is anywhere between $7-$10 for a burger...totally worth it. And a side of fries or onion rings is about $4. They have a cute outside seating area, which is great for socializing. They get pretty packed Thu-Sat nights....apparently everyone wants a burger at that time so come early or call ahead to see what the wait for seating is. As a bar I can't really judge this place b.c I haven't stuck around to hang out after eating. Seems chill but nothing special. Come on a monday if you just want to chat with friends and enjoy a burger. read more

Alright so where do I begin... Spent the night out looking for another good burger spot with the wife. This was definitely a night well spent. The burgers were amazing, we ordered the Bacon Royale and the burger was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was buzzing with college kids, young professionals and of course hipsters. Great mix of people and love the set-up. We didn't feel like waiting too long so we ordered from the bar. The bartender was absolutely amazing, a young girl that didn't even look old enough to drink herself, but made some awesome drinks. Ordered an 1800 w/ Pineapple, 3/4 of the way to finishing my drink, she pops by and fills the glass back to the top with 1800. Where else would that happen? The Onion Rings were godly and I don't even like onions. The fries were so/so but for how great the burgers/onion rings/drinks were. Not a bad tradeoff. I will be going back and have already told a few friends. It is probably the only reason to visit that part of the city. read more

In my never ending quest to find the perfect burger, I had to stop by Royale since it's so close and i've heard such good things about it. In a city where you have so many amazing burger options it's really hard to stand above the rest, but the burgers here do a really good job. I don't think it's better than shake shack, J.G. Melon's, 5 guys, etc. but it is still damn tasty. By far the best burger in the East Village i've had. read more

After reading the reviews (on this site and several magazines) i was really looking forward to sinking my teeth in a big juicy burger. Needless to say the best thing about the food was the onion rings, thin crispy and delicious. Unfortunately the burger was a serious disappointment. I ordered it medium well and ended up with a over cooked, thin unimpressive patty, which i could barely taste because of the terrible meat to veggie to bread ratio. speaking of bread, the small, cold sesame seed bun just added insult to injury. read more

Simple menu, well done food, decent beer selection, SUPER cheap, and a great back patio. As a bonus, its around the corner from my apartment. We were looking for a good burger that was far enough away from where we live to have a little summer motorcycle ride, and found Royale on Yelp. We loved it. Delicious, appropriately-sized burgers (though we still couldn't finish them!), excellent french fries, delectable onion rings, and great service (she even did the check back!). I live in the neighborhood and have been been going to Royale for several years to get my burger fix. No more. Now, I find that each visit to Royale is followed by diarrhea (although burger is cooked at medium or or medium-well done). The meat may not be fresh. The burgers are very greasy. The fries are translucent, greasy and limp. Royale is coasting on past reputation. Spare your gastrointestinal system. Sorry, Royale, you've lost a loyale cliente. read more

I have eaten over 100 NYC burgers over the last 3 years and I had heard good things about Royale's burger. I figured their Pulp Fiction-referencing Royale with Cheese (american) would be the way to go. The bar itself is a perfect neighborhood retreat; the bartender was friendly and the service was excellent. The burger was cooked to temperature (medium rare) and it was definitely juicy but overall the meat was completely underseasoned and lacked any sort of beef flavor. I never add ketchup to my burgers because it masks the meat's flavor but this burger desperately needed something to help it out. The fries were plentiful but also underseasoned. The food is fairly priced but lacks flavor. Do not come here for the burger, you will be disappointed. If you need a good burger in the area you can try Back Forty or Black Iron Burger. But do come here if you want to drink in a relaxing, warm bar. read more

Royale has joined the ranks of the Burgerati, providing a dense, flavorful slab of sirloin on a sturdy yet pillowy bun, complimented by crispy bacon and mondo onion rings. Order it with a Molson on tap and settle in. One caveat: get ready to deal with some serious seersuckers from the upper east side, for Royale, for better or for worse, has been discovered. Makes for a Roadhouse meets American Psycho vibe when it gets crowded, but if you're there for Burgers and Beers, you won't be disappointed. read more

After the wait at Westville was too long, my darling friend Anna and I were Yelping places in the hood to see where we could be seated ASAP for some grub. We first went to Brindle Room which I'm sure is great but the seating style and menu was too limited for our taste. For some reason Anna had Royale written in her memo pad (I know, who has a memo pad these days but this is why I love her), so I Yelped it... upon seeing that my favorite Yelper Peter D. (oh, Peter, you're my favorite Yelper... I hope this isn't too awkward) had written rave reviews for Royale's burger, we made a beeline for Ave C. Sorry, Peter, I didn't get the bacon on my cheesebuger, but I thoroughly enjoyed that bad boy... the cheese to meat ratio was perfection and the burger was cooked exactly as ordered (medium). We almost wish we had ordered another but didn't wanna wait the wait. The patio in the back is perfect for watching sports as there's a big flatscreen TV and a good amount amount of seating. Service was friendly though kinda slow but it's all good because the patio was full of burger and beer lovers. read more
