I've been to a few bike shops in Brooklyn, but have given my business to Roy's. At other shops I felt like I was being lured into a sale, whereas at Roy's they really take the time to present me with different options depending on what I'm looking for. Two years ago I got a hybrid commuter bike, and two weeks ago I was looking to upgrade to a fancier carbon road bike. Knowing very little about carbon race bikes, I spent a couple of days absorbing the information the crew was giving me. Not once did I feel pressured into a sale, and not once did the staff grow impatient with my indecisiveness. In the end, Boris and the guys hooked me up with my new ride, and I couldn't be happier. It was over my budget, so they cut me deals on components and accessories (padded shorts, bottles, saddle bags) to help me out a bit. Other bike shops were unwilling to provide any wriggle room, even after dropping a few thousand on a bike. I've also had better experiences at their repair shop than other bike shops. The few times I needed maintenance on my bike (flat fixes, new chain) I was in and out within ten minutes. Great customer service. I'll be coming back! read more

My wife and I have bought two commuter bikes and I recently bought a road bike at Roy's. Super nice folks here, it really feels like a family. They take plenty of time with you, sharing their knowledge of bikes and frames and so on. They even took a good length of time with the fit. Once I had paid. Highly recommended! Until I got my bike from there, I wasn't sure if this place was even a real business because they don't look like they are ever open. Apparently the entrance is towards on the back, on the side. As it so happens, Roy's is real and wonderful. My bike and pretty much every bike that my circle of friends has bought has come from Roy's. I went in with my girlfriend to purchase a new bike and some gear for the Bike Tour 2012. The customer service was terrible! Especially the old man that works there. I decided not to buy anything there and went to another store with great customer service and plenty of advice for gear (TREAD BIKES SHOP). Bought the same bike ROYS showed me along with some gear. In all I spent $2000 that Roys didn't deserve. If you love attitude and people following you around the store then ROYS is the place to go! True professionals. Masters of their craft. Bike service doesn't get better in Brooklyn, regardless of whether you're riding a clunker or S-works. They don't try to jip you and look for the best fix possible. Fixed a shifter issue for 27 bucks before tip. The other quote I got was 70 bucks to replace the shifter as the other shop "could not fix the shifter" / did not have the experience, so the cheapest option was replacement. The competence and capabilities definitely stood out. Cherry on top: When I mentioned that my bike computer fell off and shattered some time ago, they gave me a COMPLIMENTARY one AND set it up for free - just because I was a customer of the shop and had purchased my bike there some time ago. I wouldn't expect the same every time as Roy's is a business that needs to make money, but they definitely have their money where their mouth is when it comes to taking care of customers. read more

Yes, best price for new bikes in NYC hands down. The customer service is good but not the best, by the way Ilya does not work there anymore! Now about the repair shop... It is no longer a good place for real fixing. Gary the Russian Mechanic who was probably the only one who knew how to fix MTB Tubeless tires is gone! One of the new guys actually ask me why i needed Tubeless!!! Are those guys actually riding bikes? I bought at least four bikes from that store in the last five years because of the prices i got, i hope they can get customer service as good as Peak Mountain Bike store in Queens. I came in trying to find a ten speed tiagra allez for 1250 usd as my first road bike but Boris helped me get a much better allez for an insane bargain. This is my LBS, Alan the owner is a really nice guy. I went in with no knowledge of bikes beyond my younger teenage years of riding a huffy. After a brief conversation with Alan specifying my needs/use of the bicycle he outfitted me with a Cannondale Quick 5, a hybrid. The test ride that he allowed me to go on is what really sold me. The bicycle rides awesome. He took some time after my purchase to teach me the little things about riding a grown man bicycle, and adjusted everything to the right height. 1 year free service was a great add-on. The price he gave me was the best from all the other shops I checked. He also gives me discounts on all the accessories I've picked up over the past few times I've frequented the shop. The shop guys are quick and not arrogant in any way, but it takes you showing up to the shop a few times to let them know that this is going to be your local shop, doesnt hurt to grease them with a little tip if they work hard on your bicycle. Walked in based on Yelp reviews and looking for a new bike shop after a mediocre experience in Queens, and I was helped by Boris. The entire process was as good as it gets, the owner Allen joined in and they both assured me that I would not walk out without the perfect bike for me. One of the very best features at this store is that they allow for you to test ride the bikes. I vividly remember the owner telling me, " I don't care if you want to test ride a $10K S- Works bike, if that's what you like, they will size it it for you ". I knew from that point on that this was the bike shop for me. I went in looking to try the Specialized Tarmac and the Roubaix and after a quick ride on both bikes sized to me, I realized that the Roubaix was the one for me. They ordered it in my size and a couple of days later it arrived. The bike itself had a promotion from Specialized and Roy's bikes was able to honor it and then some. Incredible price and service. I would like to Thank both Boris and Allen for the superb customer service. The first question you need to ask when you walk into Roy's is: "Can I speak to Boris?" If there was a Greek god of bikes, his name would be Boris. Every time I have walked in and Boris helped me, I have always left with the best possible option I could have gotten. Once again he saved me a ton of cash by helping me modify my old Trek 820 to accommodate my wife. Sure, he could have said there is nothing that could be done and sold me a $600+ bike but he looked at my old workhorse and pulled the parts I would need to save me hundreds of dollars. He isn't just a pretty face, he knows his shit. He helped mod my Gary F into a great super hybrid and even picked out the perfect first bike for my daughter. I hope that the family that owns Roy's realizes they struck gold when he became part of their staff. I have always loved cycling since I rode my first bike when I was 6 years old and ever since that cycling has become a major part of my life. However in order to ensure my cycling experience is top notch, I needed to continually make upgrades and fine tune my bike. However in order to that, I needed to find a great bike shop with a great staff who were ready to help me anytime I had arrived at the shop. I finally found the answer to this dilemma when I first set foot into Roy's. Ever since that first step into the shop, my cycling experience has been top notch thanks to staff at Roy's. The staff there are great people who have great advice on whats best for you to ensure you have a great time on your bike and they will help immensely when it comes to making purchases such as buying your first road bike or upgrading your bike such as getting a new wheelset. He has done such technical fine tuning that other mechanics wouldn't even realize to be possible! Now my bike has custom hydraulic cable routing! Looks cleaner than the stock! Two years ago, I was looking for a bike as a gift for my husband. After checking some of the local shops in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, we headed to Roy's to see what they had to offer. The were at least 20% cheaper on the same bikes we saw in our area and they were willing to meet the price on the ones that weren't. The salesman was patient and let my husband test ride a number of bikes. We bought a bike the same day and they offer a free tune-up for a year after purchase. Later that summer, we went back in search of a bike for me. Again, another great buying experience and quick delivery. Got a wonderful Fuji bike on sale! They always have a great selection of quality bikes on sale, so I got more bike for what I was willing to spend. Last summer, we went once again and bought our daughter a bike. She rides mostly in Manhattan, so she needed something street worthy and she is thrilled with her bike. This past Christmas, my husband bought me an indoor trainer from an online retailer so that I could ride all winter. He bought me a magnetic one, and after using it for a week, I realized I hated the magnetic and really would like a fluid one. I called Roy's and asked if they had any fluid trainers in stock that I could try out. They did and off we went to Roy's once again. Not only did they have fluid trainers, but they set them up, hooked up a bike and let me try at least four different ones before I finally decided on the one I wanted. They met the online price, and when the trainer came in, I brought my bike in and they put on a rear tire more suitable for indoor training. Took everything home and was a happy camper....until the new training tire developed a flat! Huh! How does one get a flat tire indoors!!..LOL. Took the tire back in and Curtis quickly figured out that I probably had a inched rim that punctured the tire, which happened when they installed it the first time. He took the tire apart, replaced the tube and another part of the rim the caused the pinch, and didn't charge me at all. He could have just changed the tube, but he went one step further and made sure it wouldn't happen again. The level of service at Roy's is fabulous, the staff and technicians are great! I can be a royal pain in the butt when it comes to making a decision, but they are always patient with me and courteous and knowledgeable! I trekked out to this place to buy a helmet and was impressed with the shop, so I brought a bike frame and parts in to be built up. The turnaround was quick, my only complaint was that the fenders were loose enough to require reinstalling. The real problem involves customer service, namely that the shop lost $40 in parts that I brought in. I patiently called them for over a week, always being told to call back the next day. After spending about $300 at a shop I think the usual thing to do is to offer a refund or store credit for the parts, but instead I got the runaround and the privilege of buying the same things over again.. read more

I decided to start biking again and took my bike to get it looked at and checked out. Amazing Bike Store!! I am a beginner cyclist and this was the only place my husband would talk about. So I decided to come in and get us both new bikes as a surprise. The help I received from BORIS was incredible very friendly and very knowledgable. He recommended both a bike that was not overly expensive and not cheap at the same time lol but def worth the money! I ended up getting my husband a Cannondale Road bike and my self a specialized hybrid and we love it the Bikes are amazing as well as the entire staff!! I ended up buying a couple accessories such as a kryptonite lock and lights for the bikes.Highly highly recommend you visit this store over the other bike snubs!! read more

Anyone that's driven through Park Slope or any of the Brooklyn areas closer to Manhattan knows the borough has more bike stores per capita than any city on the east coast with the possible exception of Philadelphia. Unfortunately most of those bike stores carry little in the way of children's bikes so I found myself trekking down Coney Island Ave to Roy's to buy 2 bicycles for my 6 year old twins. I arrived to find a nice selection of reasonably priced children's bikes and we quickly selected 2 Specialized bikes that were identical except for being different colors. We were done quickly enough and I asked if they carried the Xootr Swift folding bike that I've been thinking about buying for running errands. I was directed to a different sales guy who was apparently responsible for folding bicycles. When I asked him about the Swift folder he had never heard of the bike and that would've been the end of it except he started trying to sell me a nice Tern Joe that was not remotely like the bike I was looking for (perhaps a Bike Friday would've made sense). I told him the reasons I wanted the Swift and sent him to the website after which he wasted my time telling me about how all manufacturers lie on their websites. I picked up the assembled bikes for the twins the following day and when i noticed that one of the bikes was missing some cosmetic cushioning (these things matter to 6 year olds) the sales guy told me that the bike didn't come with the piece. Now this might have made sense if a different colored version of the same bike wasn't sitting right next to it. He scrounged in the back for a bit and found a replacement and I left knowing I'd never buy a bike of any substance there. Kids bikes, sure. A cheap hybrid, maybe. A bike costing 3 grand plus, no way. read more

I had an amazing experience at Roy's! Franks, the gentleman who assisted me, was extremely nice, informative, helpful, and patient. I had a lot of questions because I've never bought a new bike, just used ones so I wanted to make the right choice. He let me test ride a couple of bikes, which was very helpful because I didn't have any basis experience except for the one I'd just had. He helped me choose which accessories were appropriate and most useful for my needs (commuting a rather long distance) and even threw in a few extras free of charge! Nothing but great things to say about Roys! Allan knows his stuff, and although his personality is a bit brash, he can be trusted to sell you the bike that suits you. He has a great eye and extensive knowledge about fitting too. I have been buying bikes from him for over 20 years already, and he always does me right. The reason I am writing this review, is because I can't get over the way they handled my latest dealing with them. I purchased a Cannondale supersix carbon from them (which I got a fantastic deal on) , and had a fluke accident with it. I must have picked up some road debri, and somehow my derailluer got caught in my spokes and mangled like a pretzel. My poor new bike. I had googled the parts that needed replacement, and figured I was in for a $250 to $300 repair, and it put a damper on my weekend. I took the bike in on Monday morning , they looked at it and said "oh boy, but no problem..we can replace that" the tech wrote up the claim check, and I looked at it and it said "NO CHARGE". Not even a question how it happened! This shows to me that they want to keep their loyal customers happy! Not only did they fix my problem, they also cleaned and tuned it, and even changed my bar tape! All in all, this place is a pleasure to shop in.. I recently bought two bikes( for me and my wife) at Roy's, about $400 each. I compared bikes with Ilya and he was the best! Very patient, very knowledgeable. I never felt pressured or intimidated into buying more than my budget allowed. When I returned to the store to pick up my bikes, Alan sized the bike and insisted that we go outside and he watched me ride down the block repeatedly making adjustments until he was satisfied. The prices are comparable to other stores, do the research. The service surpassed my expectations. I'm getting ready to buy my daughter a new bike, I'm going back to Roy's. This shop is the best! I came in from Park Slope (where there are plenty of shops) looking for a new mid range road bike to upgrade from my vintage Columbia cruiser. The store needs a face lift but the bikes and the help are top notch. I spoke with 3 salesmen (2 of which were working and 1 who stopped by to work on his own bike) all of them were incredibly knowledgeable and really helpful. Keith, the manager, let me ride a few bikes and got me comfortable with what I was looking at and riding through laymen terms and not going over my head with technical specs though he did give me a brief education on which parts did what and how the progression of levels got better. After around an hour of poking through every bike in my price range and riding 3 we had it down to 2 different bikes that could do it for me. I decided to go with the Cannondale CAAD 9-5 which is a really sexy bike on every front; looks, weight and components, and although the floor model was built in my size they offered to build up a new one at no extra charge. This really showed me that they werent pushing what they had but were really interested in what bike would be best for me. As i waited for it to be built I got some accessories (helmet, lights, jersey, and a few other things). The prices listed on each of the bikes were already discounted and on most of the models I was looking at an even better price was offered. The selection at Roy's is vast not only on bikes but accessories and knowledge too. The playful sometimes sarcastic and humorous atmosphere here is really nice, I loved being spoken to like a friend although it was my first time in the store. the only reason i'm giving them a four and not a five is because the shop itself looks like a dump BUT the people working there are very helpful and patient and did not try to pressure me into buying anything. I test-rode four bikes and not once did I feel like I was a hassle or a bother. When I finally thought I found the bike I wanted, they told me not to rush into a purchase and think it over or research it online if I wanted. They said they had plenty in stock. Well, the next week when I wanted to but it, there was nothing in stock. Instead I chose a far more expensive bike. On their own they volunteered to lower the price of the one I chose almost $75 to compensate me for their mistake. This is what I call good business sense because at that moment they bought a customer for life. Ilya is a terrific salesperson but sometimes u gotta wait to talk to him because others have figured this out too. He knows an awful lot and is very patient and happy to answer any and all q's. Don't go on the weekends because they're too crowded and you may not get the attention you need. My bike was ready the same afternoon and I'm loving it. This is the place to go as far as I'm concerned. My second choice however if you're a Park Sloper would be Rides Brooklyn. Great folks there too. read more
