I've been going to this shop on and off for years and recently decided to give it another shot, hoping things had improved. Unfortunately, the experience has been consistently disappointing. While a few staff members have been friendly, there's been a recurring pattern of dismissive and somewhat condescending behavior across multiple visits. Questions and concerns often felt brushed off, and explanations of services -- like what a "free tune-up" actually includes -- were vague or incomplete. There were also several instances where the work itself didn't inspire confidence. A computer mount was left spinning despite being told it was secure, and on another visit, a mechanic refused to use carbon paste on a mount, which didn't feel appropriate for the component involved. What's most concerning is that this wasn't a one-off experience -- it's been a pattern over time. When communication and attention to detail are lacking, it starts to impact both safety and trust, especially on longer rides. Update (Jan 2026): I later found out that a tubeless setup I paid for had barely any sealant in the tires, which explains why a flat wouldn't seal. Another shop had to fix it. At this point, I've decided to take my business elsewhere. I'd recommend double-checking any work before leaving. read more

It's rather sad that when I receive honest, fairly-priced, quality service, it surprises me because it has become so uncommon. I read numerous reviews praising this shop not only for their excellent service but also for their honorable business practices. Today, I had the pleasure of confirming that every one of those kind words were true in those reviews with the assistance of Sean. As a new rider with limited knowledge about my bike's needs, I made it clear to Sean that I didn't know bikes and told him to do whatever he thought was best. He could have taken advantage of my inexperience and charged me for unnecessary services, but instead, he walked me through exactly what my bike needed and what it didn't. Friendly knowledgeable multi lingual sales people , a large stock of fair priced bikes range from the everyday street type to professional team bikes for serious riders. Separate service department employs a diverse team of amazing mechanics that live their jobs and the family that employs them.. during the pandemic they were non stop crazy busy & took requests patiently thought not knowing when a shipment would arrive & what it would be delivered . Roy's myriad mechanics give you personalize attention and always are honest about what is or not wrong when I bring in any of my bikes for service. For instance, during my last visit , I bought new grips for my 90's mtb to help me with wrist pain. They were spot ok-the new grips paired with one of the mechanic's recommendations for new riding gloves resolved my wrist issues and made my new mtb feel perfect and the ride comfortable. Went here at the recommendation of a friend. Just so happened to be served by the exact person that my friend recommended. Mike I think? Absolutely stellar customer service, timely, friendly everything you could want. For some reason I've definitely had some less than stellar experiences with other bike shops and generally the employees there. This was definitely not one of them. Had some issues with my bike that has been ongoing for a significant amount of time and he took care of them all within a half hour. I can't see any reason I will go to another bike shop in Brooklyn. I like to come to Roy's when I need my tires checked and my tubes changed. Yes, I know how to change a tube but they are so quick at it, that I waste little time off the road! They always have a line though. Always. I've come first thing in the morning when they open, during the day, close to closing and they are always busy. I think their prices are pretty fair, I've never been overcharged for any of my services. And once you get helped their service is quick. And good. I'll definitely keep coming back because they take good care of me every time. read more

I just picked up my new 2021 Sworks Tarmac SL7 from Roys today and I couldn't be more excited. If you're looking to buy any bike, I would highly recommend Roys. The entire team made the experience flawless. From the sales team(find Boris! He will take care of you) to Chris who helped me get fitted, to the entire mechanic team who built my bike, it was a 10/10 experience. Highly recommended. In the span of 3 months I came back to this place like 10 times to fix the tires of my bike, they kept giving me cheap tires , and I was always missing a tube to the bike or what ever it's called , (the cover thing that keep the air in ) when I'd come here . I felt like they were scamming because how is it that my gfs bike never had problems and she uses it more than I do , and I got mine fix like 10 times in a short period , and bike still has problems ... I felt suspicious towards them . I went to this other bike shop by where my gf lives , got it fixed ... it's been 3 months , and the bike is better than ever . I've been going here for thirty years. That are very good, knowledge and always willing to work with you to get you want you want. Brought in my 25 year old Cannondale to get fitted. I needed to have my handlebar stem shortened but nobody had the part anywhere. Chris checked the store everywhere and was able to actually find a bike stem that fit my 25 year old bike. He installed and taped up my handlebars and loosened my brakes. He answered all my questions cheerfully. Great experience and Chris was a big part. read more

Boris, I was only able to give you 5 stars, but know that really...its SEVEN *******! The people that work at the bike shop are very knowledgeable when it comes to bikes, I came in knowing exactly what I wanted (A 2019 Specialized Tarmac Disc Expert in Chameleon). I, myself, am not very bike knowledgeable, but have friends that are, and this was the bike I was told to get. When I came to the shop, I called my friend so he can help me, via telephone, ask any questions I should be asking. Boris was great, he spent time on the phone answering all MY FRIENDS questions. I was almost talked into a different bike...but I stood my ground, and purchased the bike I came in for. I didn't have my bikes shoes with me, so I left my new bike purchase in the safe hands of Roy's until I was able to return and leave with my purchase. I came back a few time to visit, and after a week my beautiful bike... "Shimmers", is finally home with me. I've been to this shop twice in the past eight years. The first time I went there for my kid's bike. She got a bike from Roy's for her birthday. She rode it once around the apartment and set it aside. One week later, the rear tire was flat. I took it back with the receipt and got nothing but attitude. In all honesty, we're talking a $3 inner tube. In the end, they agreed to fix it. One hour later, I got the bike back. Two weeks later and the same tire is flat again. Needless to say, I didn't take it back there again. I did it myself, and it lasted for the life of the bike. This past week I blew both tires on my road bike by hitting a poorly fitted manhole cover. I decided to give the place another chance. After all, they do have a lot of high reviews. They must be decent enough to replace two inner tubes, right? It took them 15 min to replace both tubes. I paid the $43 and tipped the guy $5 bucks figuring that would be the end of it. I get the bike home take it out of the car, and the rear tire bursts as soon as I put the bike on its rear wheel. When I picked it up, I noticed the tires felt slightly overinflated, but I assumed they were the experts, right? So I figure it's better to let the air out of the front tire before that bursts too. I didn't have a gauge, but better safe than sorry. That's when I noticed that instead of my metal valve covers, I have some plastic crap that doesn't even screw onto the valves. I load the bike right back into the car and take it back to Roy's. To their credit, they didn't argue this time, just fixed it and returned my valve covers that they "misplaced." When the mechanic saw me letting some of the air out of the rear tire, he started berating me, telling me that I'll get a pinch flat. I've never gotten one of those before, but of the three tires I've fixed at Roy's, two burst, so IDK. You'd think this is where the story ends, but you'd be mistaken, friend. Today, a few days later, my pressure gauge arrives. I decided to bring the tires up closer to the recommended pressure since they've hopefully had a chance to settle in. I connect the same pump I've used for years and pump up the front tire. When unscrewing the pump, the valve stems comes right out with it. I'm not home, so I don't have any tools, and hand tightening it does not work. Now I have to get a pair of pliers or something to tighten the Presta valve stems. Was it low-quality inner tubes? Was it bad work? Was it petty mischief because I was pissed when I returned with the bike? Who knows? What I know is that of the four tires purchased from Roy's, one that came with the kid's bike, the replacement kid's bike tire, and my two adult bike tires, all ended up having something wrong with them. That's 4 out of 4 bad tires. I've finally learned my lesson. Never going back there again. read more

The service department is stellar. Everyone back there is good, but Gerald is the man! He's been working on my bikes long before he came to Roy's. He's the best mountain bike mechanic I know, and I trust him wholeheartedly. As an example, Gerald built some freeride rims for me that didn't need adjustments or service for 7 years...and they got use and were abused properly. He's just that good at what he does. Gerald is just awesome! As for the rest of the crew, they rock too. I trust anyone with my gravel bike, and my wife's commuter bike, etc...but when it comes to my old freeride, enduro or my downhill bikes, Gerald is the man I want holding the wrench! I live in Greenpoint, and I make the trek to Sheepshead Bay for my service whenever it's necessary. I wouldn't consider another shop in the 5 boroughs...WORD!!! read more

I brought 2 bikes in for servicing today (which I bought at Roy's a few years back).. I was standing outside waiting to be helped when the employee with the tattoos asked me if I had a mask, I nicely said no I'm outside.. he didn't say anything to me, he walked inside and went to hand me a mask all a while he was walking around without a mask stuffing his face with a slice of pizza and no less speaking at me with mouth full of food and telling me to put a mask on at the same time.... what ? Bro, your holding a slice of pizza to your face and handing me a mask to put on with your first hands.. I didn't say anything, I wasn't rude, I just said I'm outside.. I just want to drop my bikes off for servicing.. needed a 2 chains, new tires, and a new seat... I'm not trying to cause any issues .. he blatantly ignored me and continued to work around me as if I didn't exist...safe to say - I'll be bringing my business else where from now on.
