Looking for a quick bite to eat on our way from Traverse City to Ohio I consulted Trip advisor, as usual, for a place near where we were when our tummy's were calling. Easy on. easy off Roz's Diner sounded like a good choice to fill the void. Well....what a find! We split the breakfast wrap and a stack of pancakes. Ooo-la-la! The place is cute and clean, the service is friendly and exceptionally quick. We'll plan our trips North to South and visa Vera around Roz's open times- they close most days by 3 pm except for Friday nights, when they're open til 8. Great little hidden gem. I had breakfast and the food was great. Eggs, sausage , hash browns and my rye swirl toast was thick and fresh! I also enjoyed an iced mocha which was delicious! Roz's is a nice concept but still needs some work. The place is small and does not take reservations. You can come a distance and end up waiting quite some time for a table. You can also wait quite a while to be served your food as there are only two working in the kitchen and they don't seem to be able to prepare more than one table's meal at a time. Maybe best to avoid the busiest hours at breakfast time and at noon. Also note that there is no liquor license, so no wine with your fine dinner. The food itself is pretty good, although the over-cooked hamburger I had seems like it would have been easy to do right. I am sure they will sort things out--they have only been open a short while. read more

I had such high hopes and expectations. I ordered a gyro, expecting the meat to be the sliced or shaved loaf of lamb, beef and pork. Instead it was small chunks of very strong lamb. I tried to eat it, but could not. My friend didn't like it either. She offered me half of her rueben, so I started eating that. By the time the waitress came around, I had picked the huge chunks of fat out of the rueben and eaten some of it. I told her that I didn't like my gyro - and owned that I must have misread the menu. She offered to replace it, but since both of the meats I had tried thus far had been not to my liking, I declined. I expected at least a little taken off my bill, but evidently since I had not asked for a replacement, there was no discount. I am saddened that my experience was so bad as I have heard such good things. Although the fries were awesome. read more

This place was not as expected -- smaller, pricier -- and, well, let me start at the beginning: We arrived at 6:15 on a Saturday night, so we knew it would be busy. I tried calling earlier - no reservations. But the greeter gave us menus and asked us to go out and please wait in our car - they would call us when a table opens! What??! It is 18 degrees out there! Well, we're in the middle of nowhere, no other restaurants, we heard the food is great, so we all went back to the car. 20 min later, we got a table. Where was our table? Right by the door! We got a cold blast every time it opened. We ordered the special of the night - prime rib - figuring we would be served quicker in this small diner. This was not on the menu but looking at their prices we knew what to expect. WRONG. The dinner took over 30 minutes to arrive - no soup or salad, and was $24 each! We were stunned when our $90.00 bill came!!! With tip, the three of us spent over a $100 in this small diner with tiny tables and lacking a warm ambience. Yes, the food was good. But beware - ask the price, be prepared to wait in your car, and again at your table. read more

Thursday evening dinner. Not much in the way of vegetarian fare. Falafel was okay. Could have used more sauce, was a bit dry, but not without flavor. Generous with the Feta. Fries were done, but not golden. Nachos were uninspired, just chips on a plate with shredded cheese melted on top, topped with light onions and black olives. Sour creme and salsa served on side. They do offer a Reuben. Will return to try that. Food wasn't bad, just didn't catch my attention. read more

Finally a good food alternative for that drive from Lansing up north. Just off the highway in the village of Rosebush, Roz's Diner is located in an old bank building. The menu combines traditional favorites with plenty of new choices. The falafel was excellent and the table next to me raved about their Mac n Cheese Burger. Plenty of reasons to stop back (including dinner which is now available). Make sure to check out the dishwashing station located in the former bank vault. read more
