What a great place to dine in Shepherd, Michigan! Fireside Grill will suit your needs and add comfort to your meals

A pretty good overall experience, perhaps a few things could be improved for next time. I was pleased with the quality of our appetizer, as well as the creativity. We went with a fried goat chase appetizer, which I've never had before, and never even seen on another menu before. The cook clearly enjoys using balsamic glaze as this was used on both the appetizer and later on my entrée as well. Balsamic glaze is certainly delicious, but I'm not sure if it goes well on quite as many things as the cook seems to think it does. My entrée was a dish of mushroom ravioli prepared in a purée made with green peas. I noted that the chef used a variety of spices in preparing the purée, to very good effect. My wife ordered the New York strip, and what was brought out looked very good. We both had cocktails, and in both cases the cocktails or well-made. I ordered a Mojito type drink made with tequila. My wife ordered a strawberry Mamosa. I noted the care that was taken in preparing both drinks which tells me there's a professional bartender on staff. About the only thing that needs to be improved is the service. We waited just a bit too long for certain aspects of the meal in a restaurant that was nearly empty. The server was certainly polite and well mannered, but I think he was the only one working that evening. Perhaps on weekends they're better staffed? read more

We stopped Sunday after snowmobiling on Saturday. We were very happy with the food and service. The shrimp and grits were well prepared and tasty. My wife had chicken and waffles, nicely breaded and tender chicken. Quantity of food was also good with a selection of quick breaks offered before the main meal. Very good option, very easy to get off and on the highway. Pricing was very reasonable as well. Definitely a hidden gem. read more

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the food and service, but... 1) The menu was inaccurate. The bruschetta oddly contained olives (both of us dislike them), but that was not mentioned on the menu, both online and in-restaurant. Also, their spinach salad said it came with walnuts, but did not mention they were candied walnuts. They really need to be careful and accurately list items to make sure they don't run into people with allergies. 2) The menu was overpriced. $9 for a spinach salad (although I think it's hilarious that anyone would pay that more than $3-4 for a salad) is a bit excessive, but the $21 seafood soup was a good (albeit messy) deal. 3) This is a mid-Michigan fancy place, but they have no craft beer? Get with the times! Get rid of Miller, Bud, and Coors. Support Mountain Town, Bell's, Founder's, Odd Side, etc.! We'll be back, of course! Give it a shot! read more

I picked this restaurant to celebrate after my daughter's graduation from CMU since Mt Pleasant seems to be lacking nicer restaurants. It is only 8 miles away and worth the drive. The venue has a great atmosphere and they were very accommodating for our party of 12. They were all set up but the table was tall and we needed a short table, without hesitation the waitress and the hostess pushed together 2 booths. Our waitress was excellent she answered every question and gave us wonderful recommendations. We had appetizers, dinner and drinks all of which did not disappoint. The drink menu was created by the bartender and there were really fun craft drinks to choose from. We had a goat cheese that was fabulous. For dinner I had the grill which consisted of lamb, chicken, scallops vegetables and a potatoes. Portions we're generous and everyone loved what they ordered. We did not order desert because we were so full but they still brought out drizzled chocolate balls which were the perfect finale to an awesome dinner. The food did come out a bit slow but I expect that at a higher end restaurant where they allow your food to settle and conversation to be enjoyed in between courses. I love this place. It is very versatile, ranging from a perfectly made sandwich to a 5 star walleye or steak dish. This works especially well if you are in the mood for something casual but your date is wanting fine dining. The atmosphere is casual-ish. I guess I would call it golf course casual. The drink menu is solid, bottled and glass wine and some unique cocktails. Oh, and sometimes they run specials so watch for that. read more

So this is not the place listed on Yelp reviews. May be new owners but it is a normal golf bar and grill. Hamburgers and sandwiches. It was good and fair priced. The portions large but there were so many mistakes made on the simple meal and my meat was way over cooked on my Philly steak. They state lettuce and tomato are included but they forgot to put it on them they sent out a plate with lettuce and tomatoes that were cut wrong and large. The margarita was good but a ton of salt. Good value but the controls are not there and the place seems to be unmanaged. Again none of the food shown in the pics. read more

What a hidden gem! Fresh made, creative, delicious good. Spectacular fish tacos, delicious scampi, everything was made to order right down to a side of coleslaw. They also had a really impressive wine list and craft beers on tap. Wish we had room for dessert as those looked killer as well. I'll stop here again for sure. I had their mushroom ravioli and it was to die for! Very good atmosphere and beautifully decorated. I will definitely be returning.

In the past we've had good service but this time it was horrible. We waited almost an hour and 10 minutes for our food and when it came half the food was cold. The restaurant was only half-full so I don't know why this happened. I ordered a burger and because it took so long the bun with all soggy from the grease from the burger. We ordered an onion ring appetizer for $5 and it came with literally 5 onion rings. It will be a while before we come back if ever. read more

This is the best kept dining secret in the Mt Pleasant area. The menu is interesting and varied. The smoked Salmon Cake appetizer is perfect. Not too much smoke and the Aioli is a fine accompaniment. The whitefish was perfectly prepared. They offer a good wine selection, as well. All this in a very modern bistro atmosphere. The service was excellent, too. My only suggestion would be to install sound dampening material near the ceiling, as the main room sound is very loud when busy. read more

I've eaten at Fireside several times & haven't ever been disappointed. Between the occasional complimentary tapas to the main course & dessert, Fireside Grille gets 5 stars from us. We have only done dinner & apps so I can't comment on the lunch menu or the brunch but I've always had great service & elegant food. You don't even know you're in Shepherd once you walk in the door. Very modern with lots of natural light. My husband & I are both big eaters but we have shared the app pork nachos, chicken kabobs, & dessert with enough food for each of us. Kids loved the mac n cheese & I loved the left overs...a little pricey but I love it. I keep meaning to try International Night but somehow always seem to forget, I hear it is amazing as well. read more

We have been passing this on our way north for a while now, never having the opportunity to stop, but wondering how it was. We decided to meet here with family as a "half-way" point for Easter brunch/lunch. I couldn't be more pleased. Firstly, the staff was on-point. Friendly, professional and kind. Our poor server even handled my family member that LOVES to give servers a hard time very well. The building was beautiful - fun, modern architecture, an unusual layout and great view of the golf course. It really didn't feel like most "up-north" restaurants. Very classy. The booths are large and roomy and the space is well organized. Don't even get me started on the food. Again, I kept wondering if we were really in that area of the state. This is some gourmet grub, folks. Salmon, Prime Rib, Asparagus Salad with Parmesan ... I had no room for dessert, but my husband's looked awesome. I am really looking forward to hitting this place with the family going forward - it's a gem! read more

If I had written this review a year ago it would have been 5+ stars. The excellent world class chef is gone, the competent wait staff is gone and apparently the ownership has changed? 1 glass of wine, 1 draft beer, 2 entrees came to $78! No appetizers, salad, nothing else. They no longer have rolls or bread available with the meal. Really? I had "Airline Chicken". It looked as white as a sheet and was bland tasting. Waited 1/2 hour in a half-full room for our meals. Too bad, this used to be a favorite restaurant in a town with limited choices. We wont be back anytime soon. Not a very good example of a brunch. Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, French toast, COLD! Sign said chicken wings, oh yeah, we really don't have that. We only have thighs. Two. And cold. Manager said we could make some more. Really? A party of 6 just walked up and walked away. read more
