Albeit there were multiple teeth to be pulled, Dr. Rob performed all extractions in office, something that the previous dentist said would be too traumatizing and refused to consider. Dr. Rob listened to our concerns and offered to try to extract the teeth to avoid surgery. He extracted them without any difficulty. My daughter loves going to him and now wants to be a dentist. We are so grateful we did not have to go to surgery and will continue to recommend their services.

The waiting area has lots of toys and Paw Patrol playing, which put her at ease. When we went back to our station, the technician gave us the option of having her sit in my lap or in the big chair for her cleaning (guess what she chose!) She cried a little, but the technician was so sweet with her and really tried to engage. While we waited for Dr. Jenny, I managed to get my daughter in the big chair with me and she had so much fun watching Paw Patrol "upside down"! Dr. Jenny was able to check all of her teeth and do her fluoride with her laying on top of me watching tv. As anyone with kids knows, this kind of flexibility can go a long way to the success of an appointment! Everyone that worked at the office was very friendly and going through insurance was easy. I think I was more nervous than the kids to try out a new dentist after moving here, but in the end, I had nothing to worry about. First, from a special needs prospective, the staff here can't be beat. There were two technicians working on my daughter and they did an amazing job of putting her at ease while doing the cleaning. Cleaning can be difficult and traumatic for someone who cannot easily open their mouth, lean in this way, tell when it hurts, etc. I was able to sit with her legs in my lap on the chair, and she was relaxed and did not express discomfort at any point. I really appreciated the time and care they gave to my daughter. For my other two, this was the little guy's first appointment, and my middle's first experience with cavities! Again, both instances were far better than expected. The staff is very friendly and patient, which is refreshing when a lot of their day can be accompanied by screaming children. I've never seen anyone "frazzled' or impatient, and they are incredibly receptive to discomfort or fear. The waiting room is great, and the best part--they give tokens to take to the prize machines after the cleaning! My middle child still talks about how fun that is. If I had to offer a criticism (always leave room for improvement, right?) the bar stools in the private rooms are not super comfortable. They have great comfy benches and magazines in the general cleaning area. I cannot recommend Dr. Chandak and the staff at Brooks & Chandak enough. Dr. Chandak went out of her way to explain how everyone's cleaning habits and growth were progressing, and what we could do at home to improve their dental health. Incredibly kind and professional.

I've been to the office a few times now between the 3 of my children. The waiting room itself is…read moreextremely kid-friendly (understandably so). There are two x-boxes available and various toys for children of all ages to play with. There is also a Keurig station for the adults. Thankfully we have never been in the waiting room long. When you walk to the back it leads you to an open room with four dental chairs and ceiling to floor windows. It was so bright with natural light and the decor was so cute. There is also a hallway that has 4 rooms with doors "mommy/daddy and me" rooms for the younger ones. I have also been in one of these rooms with my son who was 18 months old at the time and once again extremely kid friendly. There were plenty of toys and a fire station "dollhouse" for him to play with. He actually did not want to leave! The service provided by the hygienist and Dr. Hardin were top notch! They were both sooooo gentle and nice. They talked to my 6-year-old the entire time they were working on her teeth and let her know step by step what was happening and what to expect next so no surprises for her. Dr. Hardin was also gentle with me in explaining things we could do as parents to improve the health of her our children's teeth. It's natural to feel a little guilty but no mom-shaming here. Gentle and encouraging. They also gave my daughter information (which is better received from the doctor than mom and dad) about the importance of brushing and flossing. There is a wall the child can put his/her name on if they are cavity-free which is a good incentive. Also, they get a coin to get a prize from the machines up front after their visit (she got a bouncy ball). Of course you get a swag bag with a new toothbrush of your choice, toothpaste and I think stickers. She also got a t-shirt (4 bright colors to choose from) for it being her first time there. Her experience was great! The front desk staff is also wonderful.They work with me to find a time that works with my schedule and allows me to get 2 of them in at the same time. They also explain my bill in detail so I know what to expect, insurance payments vs patient responsibility etc. Overall this is just an awesome dentist office. I sure wish I could be a patient!

I contacted the Autism Society of NC and they provided a list of dentists in the area that specialize in this. Duke Street Pediatric was on the list and also came highly recommended from an orthodontist that I know. My son banged his front teeth and there was discoloration so I was worried about possible infection or damage. I was able to get into Duke Street the next day and they were extremely helpful and accommodating. The office is on the 2nd floor and there is a nautical and water theme. They have a very happy reception area with an aquarium, video games, stuffed pillows and lots of things to do. We were taken into an operatory room with a door (vs the open settings I have seen at other pediatric offices). The hygienists were AMAZING and asked a few questions and then we discussed how to approach the appointment. My son isn't one to lay down on the chair on his own so we did get him on the chair and did the exam and cleaning. We were then seen by Dr. Martha Ann Keels and she is the legendary dentist that opened this practice. She has a very calm demeanor and did a great job with our son. She has been doing this for 42 years and is an academic and is simply stellar at what she does. She lectures on special needs dentistry and is really a pioneer in her field. I felt so relieved when we learned that we didn't need any major work and that my son did well in this new setting at the dentist. Thank you to the team for making the visit so smooth and accessible and we will be back in 6 months for our next cleaning! I highly recommend for those looking for a safe space with special needs.

Was given a statement over $5K for expected cost and then charged a cancelation fee when we chose to hold the appointment to get a second opinion. Went to Durham Pediatrics Dentistry with Dr. Rob. He extracted all my daughter's teeth in office spread over 4 appointments. Duke Street said it would be too traumatizing for her. Please, she now wants to be a dentist and loves Dr. Rob and staff. Would not recommend Duke Street to others. They prioritized most invasive procedures and would not try a more modest approach.
