I am a beginner. I paid to take a class with a pro and brought my own firearm that I had recently purchased. I suppose it is luck of the draw. The fellow I was paired with was nice enough but was very abrupt and did not spend much time with me. He spent about 10 minutes with me and was on his way. I really didn't get to ask many questions. I noticed that another pro was great with another group. I wished I had been paired with him. There was another pro roaming the range. He was strutting around and hovering behind me. He was trying to offer advice but his methods were not effective. In sum, this was not a good experience. If you are a beginner, take your money elsewhere. read more

Legit place. It's like an Academy or Oshmans the size of their facility. Tons of pistol and rifle ports. Good prices on ammo, ear pro, targets and rentals. Bought my first firearm here. There was a mistake on my handgun permit from my local PD that caused confusion during the purchase. One of the owners reached out to me personally to help rectify the mistake and offer a complimentary range ticket for the hassle, again the mistake was not made by him or his staff. This afternoon my husband and I took a beginners lesson and had the good fortune to have instructor Ron to train us. He was so knowledgeable, spoke on the appropriate level, was positive, and patient. I only wish there were more stars I could give him. Outstanding training. I visited RTSP on a recent trip to NJ for Thanksgiving. I'm originally from NJ, but didn't develop my interest in firearms until I moved to Texas in 2014, where I'd been enjoying the sport. I wanted to see what the experience was like in a state far less supportive of firearms than Texas. Once I entered the range and pro shop, none of the restrictions and anti-gunness of the state mattered. I got to talk to folks who were friendly, professional, and best of all, passionate about firearms. At the range check in desk, I spoke with Michael and Cassandra who were very friendly. The shop was very neat and organized, and there seemed to be a great selection. Pluses: - Very clean range with sound treatment, so it was very easy to be in there even with larger calibers being discharged near by. - I loved the target control systems - I was able to easily program a drill in which the target would face me for a few seconds, turn sideways, "tease" a turn back, then turn and face me again. Great to practice target acquisition. - Nice selection of firearms to rent. I wanted to rent my favorite, a Beretta 92FS, but the folks ahead of me in line managed to rent it out. I did enjoy my other selections, which included a CZ 75, H&K VP9, Wilson Combat 1911 (9mm), and a Glock 17 (or 34, I forget) which was heavily modified/tricked out. I don't recall the specific model of the gun but it was nice. Neutral: (Neither Pro nor Con): - Range Safety Officers (RSO)'s had to handle transport of firearms out to and back from the range, which was a first for me. I understand the aspect of safety being top priority, but as a License-to-Carry Holder in the state of Texas, I'm more than competent to transport firearms safely on to and off of a range. Not a huge deal, but was a bit odd based on my past experiences with other ranges. - I didn't see obvious signage along Route 10 indicating where the entrance was for the Randolph location, so it seems like it'd be easily missed if you're going and are unfamiliar with the area. My GPS was pretty accurate so it told me when to turn in, but your mileage may vary. - They have a rule that, in order to rent out a "pod", there must be a minimum of 2 persons there, unless you have a state-issued firearms card (License to Carry, etc.) - Not sure if that's a NJ state-wide rule, but they weren't the only range I noticed which had such a rule. Not good or bad, just...different. I have my Texas License to Carry, so it didn't matter for me that I was alone. Cons: - Price. A box of 9MM ammo when I went was $25.99, for bottom of the barrel range ammo FMJ. That's almost double what my range back in TX charges. I don't know if it's because firearms aren't very prevalent so the demand is higher etc, or the owners are a tad greedy. I don't know, but I was pretty shocked to see my bill for almost $60 for 2 boxes of ammo and 3 paper targets. Yowza. - The pods themselves are spacious enough, but it seems like the ranges can get crowded fairly easily, especially with their "2 person minimum" rule I mentioned above. There wasn't a lot of room on range #2 where my pod was, so I found myself doing the "scuse me" "pardon me" "Scuse me" thing to get to my bay. Not super easy to do when everyone is wearing ear protection and there's gunfire around you. All in all, I'd definitely go back again when I'm in this area and want to do some shooting. I had a difficult time coming up with more cons than just the price, because the facility really is top-notch, or should I say..."high caliber." :-D read more

Came here with my boyfriend and our two friends and we had a GREAT time. If it's your first time you have to watch an 8 minute safety video and then sign a waiver. Afterwards, you pick your gun, how many boxes of ammunition you want (one box=50 bullets) and what target you want (they have a bunch of options that range in price). In total for four people we paid roughly $160. The RSOs (Range Safety Officers) are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Kenny (my favorite RSO) is SO great and really helpful. Really like the range and people but was slightly annoyed that I had to pay an extra $15 bucks for a rental fee in order to buy a couple boxes of 9mm. My daughter and I brought our own pistols an AR15 and rifle ammo but we were told we could not purchase the 9mm unless we rented one of their guns. I know $15 isn't a big deal but with the price of ammo right now it just seemed unnecessary to me. We paid it in order to purchase the 9mm and didn't even take the rental. read more

I have gone to RTSP a bunch of times and really enjoy the place. Unfortunately every time I go and pay it's always more then I expected. The last time I went I got a sale receipt and noticed I was charged for a handgun port When I clearly stated I needed a rifle port, I also laid my rifle case on the counter so there was no mistaking what I asked for. So I wanted to surprise my boyfriend for his bday, family and friends and come to the Randolph location. Waited over an hour and a half only to find out there was no more training for beginners. HELLO! Not everyone is experienced!!! Knowing there's a large party waiting, you would think they would tell us!! Very disorganized and poor management. Had to complain just to get a refund. Today was my first time shooting a handgun. Just as they advertised, I felt completely comfortable and welcomed by the staff. They fit us with a handgun, eye wear, ear wear, and ammo. We were assigned a range security officer (Tom McFadden) and proceeded to the range for an Intro to Guns training. He went through everything and made sure we were well equipped, not at all nervous, confident with the handgun and knew all the safety precautions before taking our first shot. Bang! Went there yesterday with wife, young adult kids and my daughter's boyfriend. Staff were very polite, calming and pleasant. You can rent everything you need on the premises. Christian at the desk was helpful, asked all the right questions and got us what we needed. It was my wife and daughter's first time shooting, so John the range safety officer (RSO) escorted us in and oriented us. We rented .22 cal and 9mm which was good for guys with some experience and women just starting out. Every lane wasn't occupied and they were fully staffed with RSOs which was reassuring. I saw all types of people, men and women, shooting there. John was very clear with instructions, explanations and went so far as to giving shooting tips and feedback. Answered any questions we had. Great guy! In the beginning, we all reflexively flinched with surrounding guns shooting, but by 15 mins, even my wife and daughter got used it. After very insightful instructions, my wife was hitting the center of the bullseye consistently and my daughter almost as good. Large selection of pistols. They also offered rifles and shotguns, I think. The Glock 9mm model Christian suggested was right on the money: a little less kick than what police use, but good for working on our shooting technique while still getting the feel of a 9mm. We all had a great time and an appreciation for firearm safety. We talked about the experience for hours at dinner. Highly recommended. read more

I AM a member of RTSP for about 5 years and I am a NRA Certified RSO. The RSO's, Mike and Marty are two of the most knowledgeable and personable RSO's I have had the opportunity to know. I have observed their instruction and guidance on numerous occasions and they are always respectful to everyone. Even during correction of unsafe practices they are reserved and offer remediation. Great guys, a credit to your establishment..Also of top notch quality is Rigo. I attend his tactical shooting lessons and drills and his instruction is invaluable. I think myself to be knowledgeable on the topics of self defense and tactic. However, I have learned so much from him. Great range with good selection of rentals and amazing training classes. I took the Tactical Shooting Drills training - it was almost 2.5 hours non-stop shooting and fun. The instructor of this course is amazing - she is doing everything to make this course fun and challenging at the same time. Tornado, shooting from the hip, shooting with one hand, shooting with the opposite hand - we did it all. I will definitely take more training there in the future. read more

Great shooting range (a bit small, 9 lanes) but otherwise the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. The lanes themselves are spacious and the target system is digital thus accurate & fast. (I really like that each staff member had their name on their shirts displayed, a small detail which made it that much easier to interact with them). I'm a beginner and had with me a complete gun virgin. Brad took the time to go through each step without condescending to us and with lots of humor. They have a good selection of firearms and the facility is clean and spacious (complimentary coffee to boot). Renting out guns is always an expensive affair, however RTSP is more than reasonable. We had 4 in our group and rented 2 guns with ammo and still came out way under $200. Highly recommend it, especially for the NYC gun deprived crowd (less than an hour away from Manhattan). read more

My only issue was with the RSO who told me to stop shooting so fast. I was shooting my pistol with each trigger pull happening at around 1 and a half second intervals. that's not "fast." That's barely intermediate. He also told me that I shouldn't of volunteered to help my guests with their first time there since I was unfamiliar with how to clear a jam. this is poor customer service. Was told to come here by a friend of mine who is a cop to purchase my first ever hand gun so I drove the 40 minutes because I was told it was worth it and it definitely was. They helped me out when it came to get necessary stuff for the gun, they showed me how to clean it, how to take care of it, they literally answered every question without hesitation. My initial (range) experience was very good and pleasant. And this initial positive visit reflected that in my initial review. Unfortunately, things turned for the worst as I continued to patronize this business. I ended up having a firearm transferred from another FFL to RTSP. And that transfer although fairly smooth, was met with HORRIBLE customer service by one sales person, Michael Nolan. Throughout the process I was assisted by a few people, but mainly by Trevor and Mike. Trevor was great. Awesome dude to talk to, very helpful, and great customer service skills. Mike on the other hand, was a total A-hole. This dude had a major attitude problem and just very unpleasant to speak with. Twice I had to speak to him and both times he was rude. On my last conversation with him, I had asked him to check with his gunsmith (who never gave me back my flash hider) after the work on my rifle was completed to make it NJ compliant. I didn't realize that I never got back my flash hider until a couple of days of picking up my rifle, at which point, I returned to RTSP and spoke to Mike to resolve the issue. Not only was he claiming inaccurate and WRONG information regarding the flash hider, the attitude was just unbelievable. He was emphatically telling me that a flash hider was illegal in NJ. WRONG. There is nothing prohibiting a NJ resident from possessing a flash hider, there are just restrictions on what firearms can legally have a flash hider attached. For example, a flash hider is illegal if is accompanied by 1+ more "evil" features on a semi-automatic rifle with a detachable magazine. You can in-fact have a flash hider on your AR if it didn't somehow have a pistol grip, or if it had a fixed magazine. A springfield M1A is allowed to have a flash hider because it has 0 other "evil" features. Either way, I was not attaching the flash hider to a rifle and simply wanted MY property back. This dude works in a gun range/store and he doesn't know NJ laws on firearms. Pair that ignorance with a bad attitude, you got yourself one hell of a headache. smh Bottom-line, I have still yet to get MY property back. Never called me (when he said he will) and no reimbursement for 1 expensive Daniel Defense flash hider that was never returned to me. One bad seed will ruin it for everyone. Once there he was able to show us how to shoot. He was awesome. Very upbeat, encouraging and he made us feel comfortable in an environment that was totally new to us. Very organized indoor shooting range. First time shooters have to watch a safety video which is informative. If you have your own gun and ammo you don't have to rent theirs. You purchase the port by the hour and each port can fit a max of four people. It's $20 per hour and each additional person is $10. Comfortable environment for the ladies and youth. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable when my friend inquired about purchasing a firearm. Will return for sure :) read more

Agree with all the reviews here. I've been to this place 4 times now and just got my first G-17 gen4 from them. The place is very well ran with state of the art equipment (digital target retrieval so you can set the target to the exact distance you want), well ventilated, and well lit. The only downside as others have mentioned is that there are only 9 shooting booths which can get crowded. Out of the 4 times I've been to so far, Wednesday mid day seems to be the best time. Of course, that means those that work would either have to play hooky or take a day off. Another big plus is their huge rental inventory so you can try out lots prior to purchase. read more

I've come here a bunch of times with my dad and even by myself and I love it. I've shot before at a few different ranges and I'm decently experienced with handguns that I feel very comfortable with minimal help from anyone, but I love that if I need help there's someone totally capable to answer my questions. We usually come in the evening on Wednesdays and it's pretty quiet with no wait, except the first and third Wednesdays of the month when a local gun club has their meetings here, even still, it's not a problem to get a port. I've rented guns here without a problem and without the guns jamming. The staff is always very friendly and as a girl, I've never felt intimidated or patronized because of it. I wish I still lived closer to here otherwise I'd come all the time. What I love the most is how accessible they make this sport to those that are interested. They make it simple, without a lot of red tape garbage, for someone to learn and become a skilled shooter in a safe environment. read more

Look, I have a very limited range experience so take this with a grain of salt but I can compare two ranges in the area and RTPS is my choice. A lot of people mentioned some $25 intro class, I was not made to take it, this being y only 2nd experience with a had gun. * min safety video is marginally useful to a person with common sense, but it is free. Facility is nice and clean, stuff ranges (no pun intended) from nice to great and they do not try to nickel and dime you charging for "eyes" and "ears". The kicker is that once you rented 1 gun you can keep switching to different guns of the same caliber. It is great for someone like me who wants to try different guns before buying one or to just have fun. I just wish they were a bit closer to my home read more

We had so much fun! My husband and I decided to do something fun for valentines and this was definitely fun fun fun! We didn't know what to expect since neither of us been to a shooting range before. I truly enjoyed my entire experience at RTSP from their helpful, polite, and experienced staff to their newly modernized facility as well as their large selection of new and rental firearms. The range was great but I can't wait to revisit the facility to use their newly installed simulation courses! They seem awesome. There's one thing I feel compelled to elaborate on, and that is the politeness and respectfulness in which the staff conducted themselves. Truthfully, on my slightly less than 1 hour ride to their facility I was a little apprehensive, feeling my friend and I would not be made to feel as welcomed as their local and regular customers since this was our first visit. I just picked up my FireArms ID and new gun permit. I drove directly to RTSP to try and find a gun that I like and start my research process. I was hoping for some help and suggestions. I didn't get that. It seemed to be a chore even for him to take any gun out of the case and explain differences from one to the other. I have never been dismissed and ignored by so many people in my life. The only helpful person was in rentals and when he got busy he apologized he couldn't help further. I am honestly never setting foot in that place again. I was so excited about my ID and permit and left pissed off and deflated. Customer lost for life! I could never and would never recommend this local gun range/shop to anyone I know. ***revised**** After posting above. The owner immediately contacted me and asked if he can make it right. He apologized for the incident and said that is not how they do business. I gave them another shot and went back today. They were great and VERY helpful. I also took notice that everyone in the store was being helped and not ignored. Every customer was happy and no one was wondering aimlessly. After a horrible experience I am now happy with the outcome and will probably buy my gun and use their range as well. Customer service is important to them and anyone can make a mistake.
