(re-posting this from the Krystal Salon page because the salon is now Rua) In my experience, not all stylists know how to deal with short hair, but Caitlin never disappoints. Every time I see her she asks detailed questions about what I want, and, even better, offers her own suggestions based on the length, color, and texture of my hair to get perfect results. On my last visit to Caitlin we did something I hadn't done in years...color. I brought a reference photo and she suggested a few options based on the summery look I wanted and my natural skin tone. The final result was better than I imagined! Not too dramatic, just a sunkissed update. Caitlin also gave my stick-straight hair beautiful beachy waves that lasted me the rest of the weekend. I'm still getting compliments on this color! If you're looking for an attentive stylist that will work with you to give you exactly what you want (or a look even better than you imagined!), I highly recommend Caitlin! This review is for cut & color services by Caitlin. For the last ~5-6 years I have bounced from one stylist/salon to another as I always left feeling unsatisfied or that I grossly overpaid for services. Finding a good hairdresser is probably harder than finding your life partner lol. This changed when I made my first appointment with Caitlin. I hadn't colored my hair in ages so I was hesitant but she took the time to listen, look at photos of hairstyles I had pinned, and also gave her opinion on what would compliment me. Came out with subtle but rich ombré and a cut that left my hair refreshed & kept the length I wanted. It still looked great about 4 months later, didn't get too brassy on the ends even though I wasn't diligent in using color safe shampoo. I've returned twice since and will continue to return. She has a great personality as well and doesn't try to up sell you on service add-ons or products. The front desk staff is nice as well, always offering tea or coffee. Since my appointments have always been on Sunday mornings, didn't have trouble finding free street parking. Plus there are a bunch of coffee shops & restaurants nearby. read more

Tiana. Is. Thee. Bomb. She always cuts my hair EXACTLY how I describe. She shows genuine interest in what I want, takes her time and is always patient until it is just right. She's also super friendly and talkative so you're never awkwardly sitting there in silence. I won't ever go to anyone else and would follow her to any salon. I found this salon through a yelp and google search and I am so glad I did!! When I arrived I met John who is so sweet - we talked for a long time about my hair story (treatments I had had in the past, color, products, regimen, etc.) and we agreed that I needed a major trim and color. I have curly hair and John made sure to treat it accordingly. I love my new cut and color and already booked my next appointment for a deep condition. New to the area and they were so kind and helpful! My haircut was exactly what I asked for- I have kind of strange hair, that will only curl under very specific conditions...freshly washed, perfectly layered, and with product that isn't heavy but just enough to help me scrunch. I came here for a keratin treatment and was very happy with both the salon and the treatment. Very professional staff and very clean, modern, up-scale design inside. I was seen immediately upon arrival for my appointment, had a quick consultation (not my first keratin tx) and enjoyed a hot tea with my treatment. The polite British guy who did the treatment knew what he was doing and made comfortable conversation which is always appreciated. The treatment took about an hour and the result was great: hair sits perfect and the product is still holding strong a few weeks later (not always the case with a poor application). I absolutely love my stylist Tobias! He is a genius with color and I have been going to him for years. I am picky and tend to be conservative, wanting a natural look. He concocts the perfect honey brown/blonde with just the right amount of highlights - alternating several different shades in his magical way to give my hair a lot of depth and interest. I always get a lot of complements on my hair color, and can depend on Tobias for a flattering cut too. He is meticulous, but also notoriously the fastest gun in the west, so I am always out in a miraculous 2 hours flat. Though my visits are always enjoyable, it's great not to have to spend the whole day. Rua is a big, beautiful salon with great products, lovely staff and in a great location. read more

I really wanted to donate my hair for the first time and my entire experience with Rua was amazing. I sent a message to them from here and they replied quickly and answered every question I had in a great manner. Tiana was my hair stylist and cut off nine inches of my hair so I could donate it. She then completely gave me what I wanted and worked with my weird hair and how I flip it both left and right. She also cut it in a way that it won't fluff out too terribly which I love. I rarely review a place/employee unless I absolutely, utterly love it. This is a salon and hairstylist worthy of that so here is one of my few. First off, I frequent salons for my job and really hate/avoid them. RUA however has a beautiful and relaxing environment with a professional, accommodating staff. I almost always find parking right away. Danielle, my beloved hairstylist, I would follow and go anywhere for. She's been my hairstylist for years and I am so excited about her new residency at RUA. From my amazing color and cut to my beautiful extensions and conditioning treatments, Danielle does it all. She is in my opinion, one of the best and one of those rare and amazing stylists in LA who cares for her clients and her work. She takes her time which I appreciate - when you book with her allow a proper window of time for her to create her perfect masterpiece. She's a sweetheart, fun and funny, and so easy to talk to. She follows your lead and really listens to what you want. She is chill and also allows you to rest and not talk if you don't want to (sometimes in my case, I doze off haha) Every time someone compliments my hair or asks for recommendation, I insist regardless of where in LA they're located, Danielle is 1000% worth the drive. Mario Estrada, Mario Estrada, Mario Estrada. I cannot even begin expressing how talented Mario is. If you would have seen the disastrous mess of hair I initially came into RUA with, and if you see how my hair has turned out now, you won't believe your eyes. Not only did he completely transform my hair, but with his technique, I was able to pull off a colour I never thought I could feel totally comfortable in. Being tan, I didn't think a fully blonde ombré would look as good as it does, all thanks to Mario. I love when stylists interact with you and get to know YOU outside of what your hair preferences are. Those 2 hours of sitting down flew by because of the conversation we had. Aside from fact that Mario is the best, the salon itself is very well kept, trendy and did I mention beautiful? They also have such a diversity of stylists as well, and each of them have their own unique look. I love that! All in all, great atmosphere, great experience, and of course, I highly recommend Mario. There's a reason I live in Santa Monica and drive all the way to Studio City for a haircut: Stefanie! I've gone to her about three years. About a year ago, she switched salons to a place much farther from my house, and I immediately decided I wanted to follow her, even though there are a ton of salons in this neighborhood. (People who live in L.A. understand what a big deal that is!) Stefanie always listens carefully to me and cuts my hair exactly like I wanted -- only better. I went through cancer treatment a few years ago, and my hair still hasn't recovered, but Stefanie's careful to hide the places where my hair is still thin. In fact, I often get compliments on my hair, and it's all her, because I wear a simple style that I just blow dry and go. Just as importantly (for me, at least) is her personality. I often feel awkward with stylists, but not her. She's kind, funny and easy to talk to. I definitely recommend Stefanie! read more

I hate when you go to a salon and the stylist is either talking to another stylist or just doesnt talk to you at all. She was extremely friendly and accommodating. I went to her for a color. I got my hair done professionally for the first time here by Stefanie Horn. I went in with long brown hair and walked out with full highlights and a new bob. Stefanie was so nice and easy to talk to and seemed just as excited for my new hair as I was. The salon itself has great decor and everyone was all smiles.
