I've had tons of Chinese food in my life but I've only had Thai a hand full of times. This was so much more flavorful and made with fresh ingredients. I went with two other friends and we ordered dumplings to begin with, they were so good that we knew the food about to come out was going to be amazing. For dinner we had Gai Wahn, Pad Thai, and Thai chicken fried rice. We weren't to adventurous but we did get to choose our heat levels and a 3 is perfect for some heat but not too much. This not just our favorite Thai restaurant .. but our families favorite place to eat! Mrs. Moon is an amazing host. As another reviewer stated, they have pride in all that they do and it shows! My wife is a vegetarian and gets the E13, at # 5 spice. I have tried many things and have never been disappointed ...but E2 with chicken 7 spice level with extra bird peppers and chili flakes are my staple. My 4 year old loves the crispy chicken appetizer so tender. It is he favorite if anything we order out by far! I've been back about 6? times now. This place is just greatness. I've sampled the menu. Taken suggestions and have loved every thing they have served. I don't understand why this place isn't covered up with diners. I'm sure it will be once others discover it and the word gets out. Right now it is a best kept secret. So far, this is the best Thai I have had in the DFW area. Having just moved from the Northwest, it was nice to experience a Thai restaurant with such rich flavors. I enjoyed everything I ordered, including salads and appetizers. One word of warning - I ordered at a medium spicy level and found it rather hot. Start mild and find what is right for you. We had a delicious dinner here with stellar service! The food was fresh, tasty, and presented very nicely with good portion sizes. The owners were very friendly, attentive and helpful in selecting dishes. We had the corn fritters, soft spring rolls with shrimp, and a red curry dish with veggies and shrimp. My new favorite Thai - right up there with Tukta Thai in Lake Highlands, but then, it's run by the members of the same family. The taste is a little different, more subtle and authentically Thai, with sauces made from ingredients imported from Thailand. The service is very friendly, with the family ensuring that we had everything we needed. There are many options for vegetarians - just choose the tofu option. And the tofu is divine - not fried to the point where it's chewy and tough on the outside but lightly, just so it doesn't fall apart while cooking. The food is really good here compared to many other Thai restaurants in the area and the lady owner is super nice and friendly. We ordered the crispy chicken and basil and other stuff that I don't remember but they were all good. The only comment is that if you really like spicy food make sure that you ask for spicy level 5 or above. They usually tell customers that the spicy level is from 1-4. Well to us level 4 is not hot at all, even our little one can eat level 3 like a piece of cake and take level 4 just right . Go and give this place a try, I'm sure you'll like it. read more

Flavors and technique were spot on. They seem to know what they are doing. Probably as good as your average Thai food place will get. From what I recall though, it was more on the pricey side, and the portion size is definitely on the smaller side. Neither are too extreme, but combined it might not seem worth it. Came here for a team lunch, the food was excellent all around, we ordered everything from pad Thai, red curry to mango sticky rice. Only recommendation is to go down one level when picking how spicy you want your dish. The service is fantastic- 100x better than Samui Thai which we also frequent. Me and my friends came here on Friday for dinner. We had a fairly large party of 7 people. We ordered some duck rolls and curry puffs for an appetizer. The duck rolls were sooo good I could just get this for an entree next time. The curry puffs were just ok in my opinion I imagined them to be bigger and more stuffed. I ordered the pla basil for my entree, it was fried fish with basil and eggplant on top. The eggplant was soo yummy and the crispy basil added a nice crunch and flavor. The fish was good too but a little on the dry end. My friends duck curry was amazing. I liked the lychees and pineapple in there, it was different and something I've never had before at a thai restaurant. The owner was suuper nice and was very patient with our requests for separate checks. The only thing that was kind of off was their spice level. I got 4 spicy and it was not spicy to me at all, my friend got a 2 and i tried some of his and my mouth was on fire! However with the kind service plus the byob wine, i didnt even mind at that point. I came here a long time ago when they first opened and loved it. I somehow haven't ventured back to the area until last night. We came during the beginning of peak dinner time for a Saturday night. The restaurant filled up pretty quickly, and there was only one server. I knew she was very busy, but service was quite slow. We didn't order for maybe 20 minutes. I won't knock any stars for that because the food is so delicious. Portions are pretty filling and well priced. The owner helped the server out a bit by taking our order. Little hole in the wall - normally indicates an authentic and delicious Thai spot. This one was just alright. Pork dumplings were good, everything was about a 3/5. Tofu was a bit overcooked and tough. Duck portions in the duck curry were very skimpy. Fried bananas were very good but lacked some sort of sauce or even powdered sugar. My husband's curry chicken dish taste good, but most in the dish was misc vegetable taking up space. I tried a chicken stew kind of rice noodle soup. Taste good, but very small even for lunch. Very disappointing. Thai duck rolls were dry over cooked and wrapped in nothing more naan bread. Yellow curry had little meat and veggies were over cooked. Ruang Thai is now tied for first place in my books for best Thai restaurant EVER (along with Thai Nakorn in Alexandria, VA), and of course, it's a mom and pop restaurant tucked away in a strip mall (why are they always the BEST???). The restaurant is nicely decorated, with an eye-catching multi-color light display on the back wall. The tables are a bit crowded, but that just means more tables for all of us! I have eaten here twice now in the two weeks I've been in Plano since discovering this gem and I plan to go back here at least once a week on any return trips to the area. I first visited Ruang Thai with colleagues on a business trip. They are very near the Hilton Garden Inn Dallas/Richardson (1001 W President George Bush Turnpike) and had good reviews online, which is why we went there. We were greeted at the door by a friendly lady (I presume she is the owner) and shown to a table right away. One of my colleagues was intrigued by the fancy cover artwork on the menus and took a picture. She made sure he knew that the artwork varied from cover to cover (so be sure to check out your fellow diners' menus :-). She took and delivered our drink orders promptly. I ordered the Thai Iced Tea and it was delicious (be warned--I ate there at 8 PM and was up wide awake until about 2 AM, and I think it was from the strong caffeine in this tea). For my meal, I ordered Beef Pad See Eew (no hot spices) and it was prepared just right. I had intended on eating just half of it and saving room for dessert, but I just couldn't stop eating it. Regardless, I also ordered their sticky rice and custard for dessert, and WOW, it was perfect, too! I simply cannot say enough about this place. Honestly, if I ever had to move to this area, I would be eating here all the time. Would I go back? I already have, and you better believe I will continue doing so any time I visit this area! Oh, hey, one other thing. I went back there solo on Valentine's Day at about 8:30 PM. The place was packed. I got the last free table. In spite of the fact that they were completely full and had to turn away people who didn't want to wait, I still got my meal delivered to my table in a very timely manner. And also, if local lovebirds flocked here for their special meal, that should tell you something about the good food that's served here. read more

My rating is really 3 stars with an asterisk...the restaurant itself is lovely, the wait staff were attentive and helpful, and the presentation was off the chain! But like others here have noted, there is some inconsistency with the heat. I like hot foods and eat them with some frequency. I ordered a noodle dish at heat level of 2 that was richly flavored, beautiful, tasty...but probably the hottest thing I've eaten in a decade which was not what I was aiming for. Went there for lunch and had the penang chicken curry. It was delicious, and a good sized portion where I was able to eat everything on my plate and be comfortably full! Service was great and I got a hersheys caramel kiss with the check, which was a great finishing touch after a spicy curry.
