The hospitality is genuine. We stopped in to get take out. Sweet lady gave us the full menu and insisted we take a seat at a table to order. We put in our order and just expected to sit and wait for our food. She came back out with ice water for us in glasses. Few minutes later came out with chips for us to snack on while we wait for our food. I could tell they keep everything nice and clean. Every item in the bag was nicely placed in it's own baggie. Food was great. Must try the E16. Gai grob horapa. Fried Lemongrass chicken.. soo good! Also had to pick up pad kee mao, this one was just good nothing too stand outish than others I've tried. When you first walk in, it's a very unassuming place, very moderately decorated but definitely not your run of the mill thai restaurant. Dishes: Thai Basil Fried Chicken-100000% get this if you enjoy flavorful chicken that's fried to perfection. The shrimp curry paired nicely with the pineapple. On the corner of 15th and Custer, you may not notice it at first but after eating there you will find yourself back at this place for more. We had pad Thai with chicken (mild), Penang curry, Massaman curry (mild). All were beautifully presented and tasted amazing! The Tom Kha and Pad Thai taste great. The service is efficient and you will feel treated the same as in an authentic thailand restaurant as entier restaurant is a family affair, wait staff, cook and host are family memebers.You wont feel out of place if you are expecting the real deal. I ordered on the phone for pick-up last Friday night some Thai takeout which included: Chicken Pad Thai, Beef Pad See Ew, and 1 order of Duck rolls (comes with 4 rolls). The portions were generous!!!! We were able to feed a family of 3-4 people with 2 entrees and the Duck rolls. The taste of the noodle entrees were great, filling, and had veggies included. I like that the pad Thai had fresh bean sprouts on top that stayed crisp in the take-out container. We all agreed the infamous Duck Rolls were the star of the show. Like another Yelper said, they do NOT skimp on the Duck! Each roll is packed with Duck, cucumber, hoisin (?) and just excellent flavor. (I'm sure the rolls would be even better fresh if we dined-in, since the wrapper got a little soggy due to driving 17 minutes home with the food). However, I can't wait to try the rolls again in the restaurant another time!! Delicious. You MUST try this dish! The service was EXCELLENT, 5/5 stars: The woman working Immediately knew my name when I walked in (from my phone call order), and my food was hot, packed, and ready for pick-up quickly: 15 minutes after I called. She was super sweet, friendly and kind. She even gave me some complimentary small candies after paying at the register. Included were also two fortune cookies with my take-out order. Agree with the other reviews about the interior decor. You know it's going to be good! The employees and waitstaff here are very attendant and super nice. The prices here are a bit steep compared to other Thai places around, but they run a ~$15 lunch special Mon-Fri that comes with an egg roll and a scoop of rice (according to the menu, I didn't get one, but I ordered a noodle dish anyways). I'm extremely picky about my Pad See Ew, especially how the noodles are cooked. I love when the noodles are a little fried! Ruang Thai's noodles are pretty regular, but their sauce is excellent. They tone down the spice level from true Thai standards, so if you like a little heat, go up a rating or two! The tofu is a bit sad-looking (I'm used to bigger cubes usually), but no biggie. Also, regular broccoli instead of Chinese broccoli. I don't know why I pay attention to this detail, but I really like when Pad See Ew dishes use Chinese broccoli. Loved the authenticity of this place, the customer service, and of course the food. I started this review a year ago after visiting Ruang Thai while visiting family in Texas. We went with a large crew and they were extremely accommodating to arrange seating for us. The food came out very quickly, and very fresh. I was initially a bit concerned about the prices, but after seeing the food I no longer had any concern. Someone else in the reviews mentioned unassuming, and that was very accurate, the food is beyond what you expect. They are also very clean, even have the silverware and napkins in ziplock baggies. I'm finally finishing this review because I was just back there again, a year later, and it's still everything I remembered. This was our first visit to Ruang Thai based on a recommendation from a colleague. Outstanding! We ordered iced tea (delicious hint of vanilla), steamed pork dumplings (so tender with hint of heat from the sauce), chicken pad Thai (a little sweet, not spicy), red curry chicken (so light and fresh), and finished with fried bananas with coconut ice cream. Restaurant has a beautiful green interior with traditional Thai designs. The staff were really friendly and attentive. The food is slightly more expensive compared to other Thai places in the area, but it does seem like Ruang Thai is a local owned place. I ordered the Pad See Eaw, Pad Thai, and the Egg Rolls. I don't recommend the egg rolls; there are only three rolls cut diagonally and were very vegetable heavy. The Pad Thai was good, on the sweeter side. Not the best but satisfactory! Tried this place for the first time yesterday evening after seeing great reviews on Yelp. The reviews didn't lie. Me husband and I had the duck rolls for an appetizer...amazing. For entrees he ordered the Panang curry and I had the crispy chicken with basil. They were both delicious!! Nice ambiance and they service was excellent...very attentive and quick to answer any questions we had. This place has generated a new found interest and love for Thai that I didnt recently have until I came here. The tom kha soup is ecstasy in a cup! The coconut broth feels like a spiral vortex made of cozy blankets. I want to fall into this void and never come out of it! I went with tofu since I knew I was going to stretch out my servings over a couple of meals. I feel a feeling any meat would have been good, but the tofu just absorbs the broth's lovely flavor. All the vegetables tastes fresh. Level 3 spicy was just the right amount to be potent but not overbearing. The duck rolls are a must! They are crispy on the very edges, yet pillowly doughy soft like mandarin pancakes. They dont cheap out on filling these rolls! Every bite felt like a well packaged meal with the even distribution of meat and cucumber. They actually do a good job reheating in the oven. The soft shrimp rolls are solid, with the shrimp in the middle being quite tasty and not like a piece of rubber. The peanut sauce is imperative to eat with these rolls. They were the least exciting thing I ordered, but that doesnt mean they werent worth getting. The combination thai spicy fried rice is quite the treat! This one I ordered at a spice level of four and it didnt come weak. Every bite felt like I was sticking my head in a sauna. The cucumbers definitely help to cool off and have a palate cleanser. The well seasoned fried rice is what truly makes this dish. The beef and chicken were pretty standard cuts for a fried rice dish, but the shrimp here once again were the real standouts. They give you quite a bit as well, so it works out to stretch the portions over a few meals. Ive had some mediocre Thai experiences that kinda left me numb and indifferent in the past few years. I'm really beginning to love Ruang Thai. Their food is always on point - spicy when you want it spicy, tame when you don't. Service is quiet and efficient, but welcoming and family-like.
