After many years of avoiding this place I decided to give it one more try. It was even worse than I remember it. The food was so bad that it's hard to even describe. Definitely don't go if it's close to closing time! The main redeemer of this otherwise mediocre eatery was the crab legs they used to serve on Friday nights. That stopped as of June 2017. If you're famished, you might enjoy the first few bites, especially if you're a big fan of chicken dishes -- most of which are saturated with sugar. I always ask for plenty of lemon to cancel out the sickening overload of sugar they add to most of the hot food. There is very little for a vegetarian in the buffet other than green beans or bok choy (once in a while), condiments, iceberg lettuce and boiled rice. Everything else is loaded with meat to the point where it's barely possible to pick out the veggies. Asian food when I was growing up was mostly veggies, with a few pieces of meat tossed in. This place has some remarkably good food for no more than what it is. A small restaurant in the middle of nowhere Ava, Missouri, the chicken and rice dishes have some great flavor and a variety of sauces to go with it. While indoor seating was shut down for a full year, they have recently rebounded and become extremely popular. However, all the new found popularity really makes eating here a pain. The small parking lot doesn't have nearly enough spaces to manage a large crowd eating all at once, and the indoor seating is similarly limited. The easiest option is to order in advance and arrive to pick up your order to go, but even doing this means a long wait time, and occasionally waiting in line just to take your food. Additionally, while COVID cases are increasing across the country again, Ruby Gardens is doing absolutely nothing to stop the spread of new coronavirus cases. There are no masks in sight, and the restaurant acts as a super spreader event with everyone packed in so tightly in such a small space. If you're hungry, your best bet is to order early and pick up your food to go as fast as you can. read more

Ruby Garden's has always been my go to when I'm home. Their hot and sour soup as well as their chicken lo mein is unbeatable. Although sometimes it takes time to get your order, it's always fresh and made to order! The staff is super friendly and appreciative of all the guests as well! Is very appealing as you go in as they have it decorated nicely, and it wasn't very busy so that was nice. But the orange chicken was not throughly cooked, there was a black hair in my teriyaki chicken and I have blonde hair so knowing it wasn't mine. The reviews of this place are stupid. I have lived in Philadelphia, Orlando, Nashville, lots of big cities with Chinese buffets. This place is legit. It's food and service stacks up squarely with any of the big places I have eaten before. Their food is very consistent and I would highly recommend it. Loved their cashew chicken which is what I love about going home South. The cashew chicken is amazing & you can't find it the same anywhere else than in Springfield or the surrounding towns. Last night I returned to this restaurant for first time in awhile. Food was fresher. It wasn't so hard because of being over fried for first time in some time. However they have an excellent waitress. But still not much vegetables. To get vegetables, you have to pick zucchini, green peppers, and eat egg rolls. read more
