Meet with mother and sister on Thursday to get a brunch bite around 1pm. Walked right in was seated and excited to be there since it's been a while. I already was going over the food experiences I have had in the past. And since I'm currently reintroducing eggs back into my food experience. I as well as both sisters ordered the peacemaker one crawfish and grits ( A Grit cake!) and the smoke salmon but they was OUT of salmon so I opted for the shrimp NO pork Tasso!!!! We ordered the French toast bites and they are always a sweet touch of heaven on a plate! Can't eat to many or you may get your new residence there! Ok back to the food my dear mother order the Classic Brioche French toast, added a bowl of regular grits and a scrambled egg. Also ordered to pineapple mimosas with a splash of cranberry juice. They was out of Pineapple juice on a Thursday??? Ok orange and cranberry juice and 2 sweet tea for me and mother. We got our food everything looked, smelled and even tasted amazing UNTIL I cut into my shrimp as the waitress walks over and it hair in my Food! I quickly went from disappointment to dismay and even discuss. Waitress quickly offered to remake my food, try something else, on the menu. I explained I couldn't eat now. The kitchen manager came out and apologized and offered to make something else I declined. He explained he would make it or just take it off tbh ticket. I left hungry and heartbroken! Please bring hair nets and beard nets back into kitchens and cafeteria!!! Our family stopped in here for breakfast on a Saturday morning before heading back to Dallas from Florida. What a delicious surprise the Ruby Slipper Cafe is! They just opened on 6/1/2018 in the historic Bank of Mobile building and beautifully integrated their motif into the bones of the old downtown corner location. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu! Our choices were the French Toast Batons, the Blackstone Benedict, the Cochon Benedict, the Skinny Migas, and a side order of corned beef hash. The coffee was hot and tasty, and our server Linda is a doll and took excellent care of us! Went for the first time with my mother (visiting from Texas). Everything was great except that both of us had food poisoning an hour after leaving from what I assume was tainted chicken used in the St. Charles. I'll still give them a second chance when I come into town in the future, but cause needs to be identified in the preparation of the meals. read more

Hannah our server was amazing, she did well in making our stop here as wonderful as possible. I ended up getting the breakfast sandwich, with chicken sausage, scrambled eggs, and shredded cheese. I didn't care much for it, neither did my friend who had the same thing. We both thought it was a vegan chicken / sausage and it threw off the taste of the whole sandwich. Upon asking we found it was in fact not a vegan chicken / sausage so for us it just tasted weird and threw us off. I think I'll be back but next time I'll opt for the pancakes or French toast which I've heard great reviews about. read more

Asking some locals for suggestions on where to brunch, the Ruby Slipper was mentioned more than once so off went to try the Slipper. Once there, we were told there would be a 45 minute wait but I saw a couple getting up to leave from the bar seating and so I swooped in....problem solved. This place is fairly new to the area and the color scheme and décor stick out in a positive way. The original is in New Orleans so you'll notice there a plenty of early daytime adult beverages on the menu. Our server greeted us and brought us some menus. There are plenty of choices for all kinds of different tastes. After much debate, I felt adventurous and ordered "The Costa Rican". It seemed like such an odd offering that I had to try it. Not to mention that I travel there almost annually so I was eager to find out how authentic it would be. When the order came out it looked very enticing. The dish consisted of two scrambled eggs (my preference) topped with a tomato salsa with a side of chorizo sausage, gallo pinto (black beans and rice), plantain chips and avocado slices. The tomato salsa was flavorful and not too spicy and elevated the eggs. The gala pinto was really tasty and just as I remembered as when I was in Costa Rica. The plantain chips were excellent; they were light and crispy and I used them to scoop up the gallo pinto and avocado slices. The chorizo sausage patty was the only weak point as it was a bit dry and not as flavorful as I would have expected but let's not get it twisted, it did get eaten. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised that a restaurant based out of New Orleans and located in Mobile, Al, could pull off a Central American dish but they did. When I come back to Mobile, the Ruby Slipper is on the top of my list of places to come back too so I can try more of the menu. Next time I can see some pancakes or French toast in my future. read more

I had the Corned Beef Bennie which was perfectly cooked poached eggs over buttermilk biscuits with corned beef hash, a horseradish cream, and hollandaise sauce. My daughter got the Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes which had a cream cheese glaze on it. Yummo! My very classy Grandmother-in-law let me try her biscuit with some sort of amazing Cane Syrup Whipped Butter. I'm finding out how to get that again. I think you can just get that on the side! De-lish!!! And my other grandmother-in-law gave me a bite of her Fried Goat Cheese medallions that came on the side of her Slipper Salad. That was to die for!! So we got off the boat early thank you Carnival and mobile for having a fabulous port. We had eaten here before so we decided to check it out again and I am so glad we did... holy crap it was way better than I remember it being! What has happened to Ruby Slipper?? Bad day or bad new management?? Ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with fries like I have many times before as I am not a breakfast food person. The fries were stone cold. Like hard stale cold. The TINY piece of fried chicken was burnt and grease was literally oozing from it. I sent it back for a redo. The fries came back hot but it was the exact same piece of burnt chicken only they had added another tiny piece of burnt and greasy chicken beside it. Server offered to take it back again but in my opinion what's the use? Gave you two chances to get it right and you failed miserably both times. I'm leaving hungry and disappointed. read more

Great Southern food. We started with Pig candy., So excited to see that on the menu! The only thing I would recommend is that they add a little heat to it to cut the sweetness. Best Shrimp and grits that I've ever had! When I'm in the South that's usually my go to meal so I've had a lot of Shrimp and grits. The Shrimp was sautéed in pork tallow with onions and green peppers, and the grits were creamy! The coffee was so good that we bought a bag and I can't wait to get back home so I can make some! Our server was very sweet and attentive! The decor was nice, but the floors were tired and worn, and the chairs were uncomfortable for someone with a bigger backside! They are those metal chairs with the rod that comes down the side too far into the seat. I have walked out of other restaurants when I've seen those chairs, but I had read the menu ahead of time and really wanted to eat there so I endured being uncomfortable. If we are ever in Mobile again we definitely will stop. read more
