I made the mistake of eating in the restaurant. I like the fact that it's a family-run restaurant. I hate the comically bad level of service, poor cleanliness of the restaurant, and the sound of a noisy refrigerator while three big screen televisions were switched off. I honestly think they hate it when someone wants to eat in the restaurant. From a "server" who tossed plates and disposable flatware onto our table, to the "specials" that were the most expensive items on the menu, the place is not a warm or welcoming atmosphere for a lunch. The food tasted good but the health department warning on the door, indicating multiple serious cleanliness issues, makes me concerned for the potential aftermath. Superlative sambar and great masala dosa! Sad to see the many negative reviews of this place from years past, because on our visit in May 2024 the masala dosa and sambar combo we got were expertly done, and the copious servings were so tasty that we asked to meet the kitchen chef. He had recently come from India after doing a course in hotel management and obviously knew his craft very well. What a shame that this restaurant has earned such bad reputation. We were the only in-house diners on a Sunday at brunch time when neighboring Indian restaurants were full of customers. Multiple chutneys, potato and pea masala inside the dosa, and especially the stellar sambar will definitely make me a repeat customer here. The variety of dosas is pleasing and they have a range of other tiffin style south Indian entrees. Sometimes going off the beaten track and outwitting the Yelp algorithms are beneficial. We had a nice warm chat with the chef and he gave us samples of other things he had made because we told him his sambar was superlative (it really was). Altogether we had a warm, homely, non-capitalistic dining experience in the sanitized corporatocracy that is Bellevue. This was a priceless experience. read more

I ordered chicken fried rice there , and was shocked after seeing the quantity, it was a great quantity compared to other places in Seattle. It served 2 people. Although the taste was not up to mark but if we had asked for a bit spicy(Indian spice level) it would have tasted great. I will be visiting again to taste other dishes a try! Okay okay, so I waited to write this review until we had eaten here twice without incident - this place is awesome and I feel the overall score truly does not reflect the current taste and value of this food. We first came a few weeks ago and ate in person because my partner had fond memories of their biryani from 10+ years ago. I had the butter chicken and he got the chicken 65, and we shared a couple garlic naans. When I tell you that this food was a revelation - you can imagine our complete shock after we had eaten to look up the Yelp reviews for this place to find a horrible overall score from reviews that are 10+ years old. I'm not sure if there were previous problems but I would venture to guess that most of those problems have been alleviated. Their garlic naan is soft, buttery and most critically, really garlicky and probably my favorite naan in the Seattle area. Definitely the best butter chicken I've had (I even asked for spicy and it was actually spicy!!!). The chicken 65 is incredible - moist and really flavorful and best of all the portions are crazy great value. We vowed to ignore the rating and keep this place in business. Yesterday my partner brought home $50 worth of the same dishes (family size chicken 65, normal size butter chicken and garlic naans) and I've already had three full meals just from my butter chicken portion. Who knows how long the biryani will last! No sickness in sight and a lot of tasty leftovers to keep us happy. Ordered just the paneer 65 Biriyani so this review is only about that. I have been craving for Biriyani for quite sometime and hence I thought I would give it a shot. It's good but not so great. Two things that I can say is that the Paneer is really soggy and the spice level isn't as much as I expected for a 'spicy hot' order. I feel like I should have tried the veg 65 Biriyani it really looks interesting. Probably next time when I visit Seattle. The service is on time and there is not a lot to talk about ambience here. I wish there was 0 star for this place. Ordered chicken 65 and chicken fried piece biryani on Friday afternoon 5/26/2023). Chicken 65 being flavorless was also under cooked. I can feel and tartare the raw meat. I am planing to complain with food inspectors. Coming to chicken fried piece biryani....this was was totally misleading what the picture showed on their website and what' was provided. It was basically a kuala rice with chicken gravy. Total deceptive practice by owners. My only goto Indian place and now no more . All of the food went to trash. Chaos. Utter chaos during lunch buffet on a Saturday afternoon. Probably the worst experience ever. After 30 mins into our visit, we were still waiting for items to be refilled. If chole was available, there was no bhatura and vice versa. Some of the items on the buffet didn't even see any daylight. We walked out shaking our heads and wished this was a nightmare. I have been coming here since Ruchi opened and they used to be the best deal on Indian food on the East side (that I knew of). Unfortunately, it seems that their prices have gone up and they don't really do the awesome lunch combos anymore. It used to come with rice, 2 curries, 2 soups, and a dessert. Such a shame! Lately, I've also noticed that the rice had a chemical odor reminiscent of chlorine to it. I thought this was a fluke the first couple of times, but it has now become a consistent thing which is very off putting and really ruins the curry. I'm so bummed! read more

We waited 15 minutes for them to get our order correct and give us the correct items. Chicken Biryani was good but Paneer 65 was terrible and tasted nothing like Paneer 65. I've only had the Chicken 65 biryani here. It's ok. Not too bad, nothing spectacular. Nice and spicy, huge portion for the price. The egg is extremely overcooked and terrible, disgusting black yolk. I would just ask them to skip it the next time because clearly they don't know how to boil eggs and probably do huge batches for the week. I might get it again someday if I'm in the mood for a spicy dirty kick that reminds me of the street food back home. Not something I would recommend though. read more

Very rude customer service. We went today around 5pm to have dinner and the treatment we got was really upsetting. It seemed they are paying us to eat there. First of all we sat for 20 minutes and no one came to our table. We were the only one in Reasturant and there was one person in the cashier counter and another person was sweeping the floor (!?!) . After 20 minutes we told the person in the cashier counter that we are ready to order and he said you have to come here to order. We said okay, three of us went to the counter to order and he started answering the phone and told us to wait a minute; again we said it is okay. Very mediocre food. We ordered a paneer dosa, masala dosa, 2 orders samosa, 1 order veggie pakora, and some chai. Our samosas came out and they were still frozen on the inside. The guy at the counter took them back and made us a fresh order of samosas and the 2nd time they were cooked right through. Samosas were ok, tasted like the frozen packaged ones you get in stores. The veggie pakora was ok too. The paneer and masala dosas were pretty dry and flavorless. The chutneys served with the dosas were ok, and so was the dhal. On 25th Feb bought takeout *family* pack of boneless goat biryani , it had exactly 8 small pieces of goat meat. On 1st march ordered takeout *family* pack of chicken dum biryani , it had two drumsticks and one thigh piece. For the money they charge for these , this is a complete ripoff, Also the taste of biryani rice has changed in past few weeks, it is not as tasty as it used to be in past. The food is average. I catered food from here for a party of 20 guests. They are not able to help estimate the quantities. The food was just ok. The gajar halwa had rice added to it to increase the quantity. Quite embarrassing when my guests pointed that out. Imagine what kind of impression did it leave on them of this place. The lunch buffet has limited options, mostly just South Indian food. They don't replenish it quickly, so you may have to wait for a long time. Overall, very average rather below average experience. Customer service is also not nice. Having said that, if you make a compliant they may defend themselves a bit, but eventually offer to help and compensate for the bad experience. But how many time you want to go through it just to give them another chance. It's more sensible to try another restaurant instead. read more

We keep going back to this place for the last five years. We first discovered their famous Chicken 65 Biriyani and repeated the order. Then, we tried other entrees and they are even better! Chicken Tikka Masala is my husband's favorite and my reco is Lamb Rogan Josh, Saag Chicken, and Veg Kurma. A lot of fresh vegetable and flavorful spices. 98% of clients looks like Indian people and how they never ask on "hotness/spice level" tells me that they must be authentic (reminds me of my visit to Chennai) . We have tried several Indian restaurants in Seattle and Bellevue, but this place tastes the best, because other places are fine but all their menu taste the same as they only have one recipe. We usually order food for big parties from Ruchi. The main reason is their food is guaranteed with taste all the time. There is no real comparison for their butter chicken and from time to time it's getting better. And the chicken 65 biryani , paneer tikka masala all were so delicious. I would like to rate this place with at least 2 stars, but the service was so poor that I don't think it's humanly possible to. The food was good, but at first me and my date got our waters when we sat down, first let me say it was, it caught me off gaurd when I askee ror water and the waiter looked surprised... which was weird. Then, the water came in tiny plastic cups. So, I brushes that aside until we got our food. Maybe 5 or 10 minutes into the meal the waiter came to us and almost insisted that we pay the bill now. Weird... so to get him to leave I gave him my card and then he came back and waited for me to sign... (like dude! I'm still eating - back off!) I regret the meals that I had here. I had their food multiple times at different parties where my friends just ordered a lot of food from Ruchi. Just by looking at the food, I can be confident that the food was not fresh. It was cooked more than 3 days ago giving a pungent smell that typically comes out of home cooked food that sits in the refrigerator for way too long. (The type that makes you not only throw the food in the trash, but also take out the trash) Good chance of diarrhea and throwing up. I respect food a lot.
