He took initiative to reroute a heating duct we didn't think was possible and improved the look of the whole room. Mike Rudd remodeled the bathroom of our 1940s house. The work included taking the bathroom down to the studs, replacing water-damaged beams, redoing the old plumbing, and updating the lighting and electricity. The final remodel included opening up the shower enclosure, new fixtures, and new tile. Mike did an excellent job, and we are enjoying our new bathroom. Mike worked with us to come up with a design that respected the age of the house while making the bathroom more functional and brighter. Throughout the remodel (which took about nine weeks), Mike communicated with us and asked for input. Because the bathroom was located in the center of the main floor, Mike (and crew) took time each day to sweep and clean up to minimize disruption and the tracking of dust and debris around the house. The garage was used by his crew during the day, but things were put away each afternoon so that we could still park our car inside. He provided a detailed contract with clear deadlines for payment and what items were being paid directly to suppliers. I own a four-plex and have enlisted the help of Mike for the kitchen or bath in nearly every unit. There are a few things you should know: 1.) because he's cheaper than most, scheduling can be tricky, but it's worth the wait. In my experience, you might find someone else with more availability but they probably will not be as good. 2.) excellent pricing- We've gone with cheaper contractors, but quality suffered. We've gone with significantly more expensive contractors and quality did not significantly improve. He has come UNDER quoted budget on some projects and discounted pricing when I did something he had planned to do himself. I don't think there are many contractors who would REDUCE a fixed price. 3.) Mike is a great communicator, and you'll never have to wonder what the next steps will be. If snags in the project come up, he'll ask you for input before he makes a decision. 4.) He's creative- if you've got an issue with unexpected hardware, material or a weird space, Mike is analytical enough to make it work. 5.) He's super organized and tidy. He cleans up his work space every day and takes away the garbage at the end of the project. He's always our first point of contact. You will like working with him. read more

If I could give him zero stars I would. I hired Mike to come to our house to do some minor work. One of the projects involved him cleaning out the lint behind our dryer that goes into the pipe and then outside. First of all, I was 7 months pregnant at the time, and he requested that I HELP him lift a VERY heavy full sized dryer so he could get behind to see what the problem was. He was extremely unprepared, did not have the tools necessary to complete the job even though he went ahead and tried to do it., He totally and completely screwed up the dryer, so that after he left, every time we used it, steam would permeate throughout the house and cause the paint on the walls to chip. Unbelievable. I called him and requested that he come back to fix the job. He called me back and said he needed someone else to help him lift the dryer and that he was going to bring his wife?!?! Really? So I gave up at that point, and hired a different guy to come fix the dryer. He fixed it for LESS than Mike charged, was totally prepared, and we have zero problems now. Mike does not know what he is doing. The other person we hired said that it was a simple job, which now I am seeing that it was if you have a good and experienced person - I would be VERY hesitant to hire Mike Rudd for anything at all. Mike Rudd did excellent and professional work on our house. We are so happy with the newly installed warm floor. I can't get over the tricky tiling Mike was able to do: curves around the tub, several right angle cuts to go around the two door frames, and the circle under the toilet. He is exceptionally skilled. Additionally, Mike replaced the toilet every night since our house has only one bathroom. As a last minute item, we asked Mike to install a light in the closet. We hired Mike to do subway tile backspash in our kitchen, and he was fantastic. - He was always prompt and polite. - His pricing is reasonable, and the budget he quoted us for the project was spot-on (no hidden costs at the end). - He was helpful; he picked up some of the harder-to-find edging and corner tiles that weren't carried at our local home depot, which saved us the time of running around to different tile stores looking for the correct pieces. He also came over for an initial consultation and helped advise us on the aesthetics and lay-out of the backspash with regard to our unique kitchen. - He was flexible. Half-way through our 2-day project, we asked him to increase the wall area that was getting tiled, and he incorporated the changes without hesitation. - Quality of the work was great. We've done 90% of our kitchen remodel ourselves, and had considered doing the backsplash ourselves as well, but we're very very glad we outsourced to a professional. It looks very straight and sharp, and Mike was able to handle all of the little window-sill and cabinet corner quirks in a very clean way.
