I think it's important folks know about this experience so see below: ______________________ I had such a bad experience with Mission Home which I know will look bonkers given the 5 star reviews. I was definitely persuaded by these reviews - and now will question every business that has 5 star reviews. Do your homework and don't be fooled. Project took much longer than what it should have because they were disorganized and would forget certain things (the foreman would even admit that the PM should have told me certain things!) that I would have imagined a contractor had down pat in terms of sequencing. They use some subcontractors and you are at the mercy of their schedules. They just are not organized (you will do a lot of the reminding, checking in, following up, and certain things still may not happen). They failed inspections meaning more cost (it is their job to pass these! It says this in any contract!) If it seemed as though I was questioning something, the PM got defensive and sometimes unprofessional, gaslighting me in a very aggressive manner. I saved the communication, in fact. The people I worked with directly were young and it showed in the almost-too-casual style of communication and lack of professionalism. I surrendered towards the end and just wanted the project done and everyone gone. I feel completely foolish that I went with the significantly higher estimate thinking it would offer a smooth, superior experience. The actual people who did the work worked hard though and did nice work - hence the two stars. But at the end of the day, it's actually hard to enjoy the work as I am reminded by the months of bad experiences - up to the very end. You can find more experienced contractors out there for equal quality of workmanship and for a more competitive price. I am using a different contractor now for other work at the property - it's a 180 degree difference - they have a dedicated team for my project, meaning time to completion is more accurate and on time; they have a dedicated person to procure the finishes and fixtures, not myself; they are way more organized and even provided me a timeline of what to expect and communicate with me what time they are showing up and what progress was made that day (!!); they are bringing a truly expert eye with attention to detail that ELEVATES the space and are teaching me to ask things I didn't even know I should KNOW to ask; and most importantly, I feel truly comfortable asking questions without defensiveness and aggressive steamrolling in their answers. I received none of this level of care or expertise with MHR, and I want you to know that you should expect these things!!! read more

Try to get some basic quote range but they say no, they cannot do that and we have to schedule a site visit even with the measurements and picture I provide. This makes no sense because we just want to get a ballpark to see if it's even make sense to continue. But anyway, on the date of the site visit, the guy come without any tool for measurements and for note taking. The guy just spent like 20 mins walking around the house and said he will get back to us with a quote. But I never hear back from them since. I think the company is very picky on clients and like to see if they have enough money to pay for their service. If they think we cannot afford it, they will just cut all the communications. This is also mentioned by other 1 star reviews. read more

Well Done! Highly professional, skilled and especially nice. We originally just planned to update the two bathrooms, fireplace and minor revisions to master bedroom however we then added updating the kitchen, terrace, floors, lighting and speakers very reasonably priced. This review is long overdue - we finished our second-story addition with Mission in March 2025 and couldn't be happier with the results! Amazingly, our major project was completed exactly on time and essentially on budget, even though we ran into some unexpected challenges with the design (not done by Mission) that could have derailed it. The issues that came up were handled quickly and thoughtfully, and several of their suggestions genuinely improved the final design. One thing that really stood out was the team's honesty--any mistakes (inevitable/expected on a project of this size) were acknowledged immediately and addressed without hesitation, which is something other contractors sometimes struggle with. It's definitely important to stay involved, but we felt comfortable being away for long periods and trusted Dan to keep things moving smoothly. There were times when dust/debris reached areas outside the active work zone, but the crew made sure everything was thoroughly cleaned by the end. We just purchased our first home and hired these guys to help us every remodel that the biggest help was getting older the pyramids they do have a person and staff who makes sure they can get permits really quick. We also liked that they did set up invoices for older large purchases we've done we've even received a discount on some items that they helped us select materials and so on the project is almost finished we had a very good experience and I most of my friends had a difficult time with construction. For our home expansion (incremental ~1,000 sqft) and remodeling (entire home) project, we interviewed no fewer than 20 contractors around the Bay Area. We chose Mission Home Remodeling primarily because of: 1) A reasonable estimate: Some contractors came in with ridiculously high estimates. They promised fancy white glove services, but we wanted to maximize every dollar at the end of the day. Others came in with even lower estimates than Mission Home Remodeling, but they didn't pass our smell test. They had complaints filed against them on BBB, or we felt that they would eventually nickel and dime us through "unexpected" change orders. 2) High level of trust they instilled in us: We felt that Mission Home Remodeling was in this business with a long-term perspective, such that they would care about happy clients who can genuinely support them after their projects. This was important to us, because we wanted people who would treat our project with care and work toward our satisfaction. 3) Prompt communication: Everyone at Mission Home Remodeling was eager to speak with us. Our project was at least several months long, and we needed people who could be reached easily to discuss various issues and questions that arise throughout the project. Their communication was exceptional from the beginning - not just how quickly they responded, but also the way they communicated. Fast forward a few months, we have completed our project with Mission Home Remodeling, and we can't speak more highly of them. All our initial expectations came true, and they have been amazing partners throughout this journey. called for a quote and the lady answering the phone had no idea what xactimate was. i asked her to check if someone else had an answer and she hung up. i know it was intentionall because i called back twice and she refused to answer the phone. just know this company is going to be difficult if you have questions if this is how they answer the phone. read more

Love my updated kitchen! Dan is a fantastic project manager-- he communicates frequently and timely. I was never left waiting on information or unsure of next steps or progress from the very first inquiry to the last day of the project. He also went above and beyond taking me to some locations to narrow in cabinetry and other materials. The designer Sarah was helpful in narrowing down my design choices (from appliances to paint color to tile and fabric), and encouraged me into some elements I wouldn't have done on my own and easily became my favorite parts! The job site crew worked efficient, and did beautiful work installing cabinetry for an eat in kitchen, and a custom pantry that works as a bar for me. Plus new countertops, sink, faucet and backsplash. They were very nice and the unit was kept tidy and clean each day which I so appreciated as I lived at home during the project. We recently worked with Mission Home Remodeling on a renovation of our home in San Francisco, including adding a new bathroom, renovating an existing bathroom, adding walk-in closets to existing bedrooms, and adding a breakfast nook in our kitchen. We're thrilled with the outcome of the project and had a great experience working with Matan, David and team. We'd highly recommend them if you're looking for a design-build firm in the SF area. We especially appreciated their honesty, customer service, architectural services, knowledge of working in historic buildings, craftsmanship, and follow through. From start to finish the team at MHR was great to work with. They were fast to respond to our initial inquiry and straightforward to communicate with around scope and price. We agreed to a price at the outset and they stuck to it, including being very accommodating of changes to plans that emerged along the way. We had a great experience working with their architect. She met with us frequently during the early stages of the project to iterate and ensure all of the key details of the design that were important to us were fully captured in the plan. We were able to iterate through a huge amount of work with her in a few weeks and quickly get to approved plans. Our home was built in 1908 and we wanted to maintain historical details during our renovation. MHR has excellent craftspeople on their team who worked with us to match moldings, cove ceilings, and other details, so that the new work seamlessly blends into the existing conditions in the areas of the house where this was a key priority for us. Overall, we were happy with the timeline of our project. MHR was onsite every day making steady progress and did a great job of scheduling and coordinating the various trades (plumbing, electric) to avoid delays. In terms of finishes and follow through, the team was great. They diligently worked with us to quickly close out our punch list at the end. Where there were any details that we requested be reworked they were fully responsive and accountable and made sure we were completely satisfied with the finishing details before we considered the project wrapped up. The follow through at the end to make sure the details were right was a standout part of the project for us. From his first visit, we were impressed by his knowledgeable diagnostic of our problem. While we were daunted by the prospect of a total bathroom demo, we were comforted by his expertise and his willingness to help keep the project in our budget. We consulted a few other firms, but ultimately chose to go with MHR because they were experienced, promised a quick turn-around time, and had a competitive price. There was one issue about half-way through the shower installation when the positioning of a ledge wasn't quite to our liking. Amir was perfectly understanding and accommodating when we asked if it could be changed. Amir showed up on time, was very professional, and gave us the best-priced bid of all the companies who looked at the scope of work. We bought a fixer-upper in SF. We didn't realize how much work and planning it would actually require to bring it to living conditions (let alone to a condition we would enjoy living in). Gladly I was referred to Dan and Matan by a good friend who did a pretty significant remodel as well. They were able to walk me through the process step by step. They really know how to deal with San Francisco City, which was a huge bonus, because it seemed like every other contractor we spoke with really had no idea or was not willing to. The remodel went surprisingly smooth. I've heard all the nightmares of contractors in the Bay Area and been through a pretty bad experience myself in the past. We remodeled 2 full bathrooms (one was an addition and it came out REALLY beautiful). The kitchen came out really great as well. I love to cook so the kitchen was super important for me. We worked with Sarah, the company's main designer, and she pointed us to nice cabinets and a beautiful new island countertop. Matt and his team at Mission Home Remodeling completed a 6 month renovation project at our residence and we are so happy that the result matched the vision our architect and designer had produced. My wife and I desired a larger kitchen after living in our home for 9 years. For a 50 year old house, the layouts that were popular then did not include a larger, open kitchen and living space where we could entertain guests. Mission Home Remodeling performed all the structural modifications and gutted nearly 70% of our house to provide us with what feels like a brand new home with a lot more natural light and a kitchen that our extended family, friends, and guests can enjoy. Because I was at the site nearly every day (we had moved out for the entire duration of the project), all of the various teams that worked on different aspects of the house were extremely courteous in explaining to me all the different reasons for doing things a certain way and were open to most (if not all of my suggestions). Once the project started and we saw how it was going, we decided midway that there were some other changes we wanted to make to some of the other rooms - Mission Home Remodeling were absolutely amenable to the changes and our project experienced only slight delays.
