    Spicy Vegetarian Ramen
    Puneet S.

I would start by saying that the service here was great and they are very on top of it. We started with a bao bun which was called crispy tofu. The glaze and the crisp on this item was great. There was a sweet-and-sour component and it appeared really nice with the soft pillow bun. I ordered the spicy vegetable Ramen and swapped the noodles for the thin noodles. The broth from the Robin was less than expected and a bit planned yet the quality and the toppings worth of fine quality. I would say the overall taste was good, but not the best Ramen I have had. I think they use good ingredients, but the broth lacks a bit flavor which sticks out in a Ramen dish. The noodles were nice and not too soft. Overall, the experience was good, but I think the flavor components could be enhanced a bit.

Excellent ramen here. There was plenty of seating on a Sat at 1pm, but it was also snowing a lot. It could've been an anomaly. They had regular tables, high tables, and tables at the counter. I would avoid sitting by the windows on a snowy, cold day. You'll need your ramen to warm you up. I tried the Soy Caramel Pork Belly Bun and Spicy Tonkotsu. The pork belly was very tender and delicious. The caramel gave it a subtle sweet taste. The ramen was delicious. Definitely had a kick to it. I felt like it was spicy enough still to enjoy it. The char siu pork was soft and seasoned (slightly salty). I think this was the first char siu sin ramen that I remember being seasoned. It's a pretty big bowl with lots of noodles. I was stuffed by the end. I would definitely come by and order again.

Saw Rudy's Ramen through a TikTok video so had to come and try it out for myself. I came on a Monday afternoon so there was plenty of street parking and it was relatively empty inside. Restaurant is very cute and seems clean. Service was great and very quick. I got the spicy tonkatsu ramen-- the thin noodles were perfectly cooked and broth was rich. I think it could have been more spicy and the chashu was on the fattier side. I was hungry and the ramen filled me up, but I have a feeling that my boyfriend or someone else would not be leaving completely satisfied given the portion size. My entire meal after tip and fees came out to be ~$25 which I think is pretty standard. Server told me it was Happy Hour and the deals for the appetizers and cocktails seem like a steal if you were to come with friends! Was this the best ramen I've ever had? No. But it was still a delicious dinner and I would give Rudy's a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Whether you're trying to escape the harsh Chicago weather or relinquish the stress of a tough day--Rudy's Ramen will provide you that refuge. The warm, flavorful broth will hug your insides and fill every nook and cranny with comfort. I ordered the seasonal Tsukemen, and it was an interesting interactive experience. The noodles, egg, and seaweed are served separate from the broth and you are free to add the ingredients as you see fit. The noodles were of great quality and the aforementioned broth was fantastic. Our waiter was helpful and suggested a sake flight when we couldn't decide which to choose. While some of the sake were very strong, we appreciated the suggestion. The restaurant has a very welcoming vibe and is a good size, although there is usually a wait. In a city filled with ramen options, Rudy's should be a staple on anyone's list.

Hands down the best ramen we've ever had! Everything from the food to the service was absolutely exceptional. We ordered the Karaage Chicken, Habanero Mayo Chicken Bun, Soy Caramel Pork Belly Bun, Tonkotsu Ramen, and Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen (added Ajitama Egg, Pork Belly, and Spicy Ground Pork) -- and every single dish blew us away. The ramen broth was rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced, with noodles cooked to perfection. The buns were soft and packed with incredible flavor (the soy caramel pork belly was unreal), and the karaage chicken was crispy, juicy, and addictive. I wish we had a bottle of the house-made yuzu kosho sauce that comes with the karaage chicken, it was that good! Service was top-notch -- friendly, fast, and attentive without ever feeling rushed. You can tell they really care about both their food and their customers. If you're a ramen lover, this place is a must. We'll definitely be back again whenever we're in town.

Craving some ramen on a chilly work night, we dropped in to try some. I got the spicy miso and sadly it was not spicy to me. You have to pay extra I believe for "extra spicy". We also tried the Karaage chicken as an app and it was tasty but expensive for the size. I would perhaps get ramen again to go so I could take it home and add spice for free. The broth was good and the noodles solid. Not my favorite ramen in the area, but certainly quality.

Clean, minimalistic ramen shop a slight trek from downtown Chicago. We came for a late dinner on a weekday with no wait, though patrons were still trickling in throughout our meal. Service was prompt and courteous, no issues. Crispy Brussels sprouts: Pretty crispy, but bordered on being overfried and thus a touch bitter. We requested for light sauce, which allowed for retained crispiness but did allow the bitterness to shine through more. Interestingly, each bite of the sauce tasted slightly different, which was intriguing but jury's still out on whether I liked the overall dish. Tonkotsu ramen (both regular and spicy): Good broth, just not the best I've ever had. The thick chashu was satisfying and fatty. I would have preferred the woodear mushrooms slightly more cooked. The bamboo shoots were good texture. The egg was nicely molten in the center, though I always prefer a whole ajitama to a half. Overall not a bad option for ramen while in the area.

Nice ramen shop in wicker park. Went on a Thursday around 6pm and there was still plenty of seating left, although it started to fill up more around 7. Vibe was nice and staff were friendly. I got the tonkotsu ramen with the cucumber margarita. Both were delicious! I would honestly come back for just the marg. Liked this place and definitely will be recommending it.

Damm!! I must say, they put their foot in their ramen!!! Excellent, the noodles so silky, the broth out of this world so damn good. We have had a lot of Ramen in our life, Rudy's Ramen is in the top five for me (2). I didn't take a picture, this was the aftermath, there's nothing left in our bowls. Definitely worth going! Also, the staff was great.

We really enjoyed Rudy's Ramen! Easy parking, plenty of seating, and perfect for a cold snowy day. Servers were nice and loved the ambiance. The vegetarian mushroom broth ramen (a little spicy) was hot and delicious, and the strawberry mochi ice cream was a great finish :)

The Pineapple (upside down)? I think it was called that.

Make sure to get reservations before you go. It was really good. The staff was really nice and the music was really great. Cute and clean. We sat at the bar. The food was great and so were the drinks. Everything we had pictured here!

    David M.

Rudy's Ramen offers authentic ramen in the wicker park neighborhood of Chicago. A decent sized place with both table and bar seating. The ramen was delicious with plenty of flavor. The service was good but I felt like where we sat at the bar we were forgotten about. Regardless the food was delicious and I would still go back again.

    Vanessa B.

Made the trek out here at the bequest of babe who read reviews and said we needed to try this spot. At first I was a bit skeptical and thought nothing could top my beloved Ramen San. I was proved wrong. I ordered the vegetarian mushroom based ramen (with the extra spice) added a side of the crispy chicken. The chicken was the tenderest I've ever had. The ramen flavor was delicious and the noodles were chunky and ample. This was certainly worth the drive. We also got the Mayo chicken bao to start and man was that just melt in your mouth...ask for extra pickles. The fact that we sat at the bar and were able to see the kitchen staff doing their thing was an experience. The service was ok, friendly but nothing to write home about. The ambiance was open and clean.

The food was exceptional, the service was superb, and the atmosphere was just wonderful. The place has a charming rustic vibe, with projectors on the wall playing anime and movies, creating a lively and cultural ambiance that feels so inviting. The food... it truly was one of the best ramens I've ever tasted in my life. The menu offers a great variety for vegetarians, vegans, and meat lovers alike. I tried the dry sake, which reminded me of Prosecco: delicately bubbly and lovely to sip. I've tasted better sake, but it paired perfectly with my meal. My cousin chose the spirit-free cocktails, especially the Rose Mallow rosemary syrup, yuzu, mint, and hibiscus ginger beer. He gave it a 6.5 out of 10 because the mint and ginger were a bit strong, but if you enjoy those flavors, it could be just right for you. Meanwhile, my goddaughter ordered the Thank Yuzu, a refreshing blend of pineapple, yuzu lemonade, and cilantro, which she rated an 8.5 out of 10. She loved it, though she said the pineapple was quite strong and overshadowed the yuzu lemonade. Still, she declared it a great drink with her trusty young palate. My godmother enjoyed the sparkling water with lemon, simple and refreshingly perfect. We started with some delicious appetizers. The Pork Belly Bao Buns were a hit: tender, juicy pork with spicy mayo and kimchi cucumber, earning a perfect 10/10. The buns were soft and flavorful. We also shared the Sticky Thai Wings: five crispy chicken wings tossed in a sweet chili sauce, served with pickled Japanese daikon radish and lime. My godmother loved them, giving a 10/10, saying they had just the right amount of heat and crunch with a savory finish. The Chicken and Vegetable Gyoza were quite tasty, scoring an 8/10; they were crunchy and flavorful, although I felt something was slightly missing from the flavor. The highlight was definitely the ramen. My godmother chose the Chicken Shio classic chicken broth with chicken chashu, butter corn, scallions, molten egg, and nori. She rated it a 9/10, praising the flavors but mentioning that the broth could use a little more depth. My cousin, my goddaughter, and I all enjoyed the 10-hour Tonkotsu, the traditional broth with chashu and molten egg. It was an absolute favorite! I added bok choy and a side of sesame chili, and every bite was heavenly. My goddaughter added xoxo wontons, which were an excellent pair with her ramen. The broth was rich and flavorful, the pork was incredibly tender, practically melting in my mouth, and the noodles were perfectly bouncy, silky, and flavorful. I finished my bowl without even realizing how delicious it was. Plus, they offer unlimited noodle refills for just $5! This spot is a solid 10/10 in my book. I'd even come to Chicago just for these noodles again. Truly a happy, satisfied group! Photo credits: Kamilla M Recommendations: A.M

Honestly, it's just not that good. I was absolutely STARVING so I thought it'd be great considering…read morethe reviews, but the 10 hour tonkotsu is embarrassingly weak. You can tell they water it down a lot and just add a ton of minced garlic to make up for it. By the end of my bowl it was just boiled garlic crumbles. The tonkotsu was also completely the wrong color: translucent, watery, brown chicken-broth looking--not a nice light, fatty, and milky brown. Missing flavor. The chicken ramen was also extremely underwhelming, ZERO FLAVOR in the broth and the chicken!!!!! The meat itself was very moist, but the broth honestly tastes like a can of low sodium chicken broth. Really embarrassing excuse for ramen. I really expected more out of this place. Can't compete with A-tier Asian food in other areas. Service was pretty poor too. One girl for the entire floor of tables. Ignored us the entire time apart from getting our orders. Overall not worth coming back when there's so much better Asian food out there to try.

For the main attraction I ordered the spicy garlic ramen that was such a delightful mouth experience it really hit all the taste buds! The noodles were perfectly bouncy with the right amount of chew. The jellied egg was perfect and rounded the soup very well! The red chili threads enhanced the spicy miso broth just enough to slurp all the delicious goodness down! My husband ordered the Sapporo miso soup which had more of a creamy type of broth vs the spicy garlic. The noodles were also thinner than regular ramen & had a bouncy springy texture that just hit the spot! All my previous personal experiences…read morehave always proven to me that restaurants with names that don't represent their culture in distinct ways are generally subpar. For example, I would usually never even think to step into a restaurant named Best China House, Sushi Bistro, or Mom's Korean Restaurant. (Apologies if your shops are named as such. These were meant to be generic examples) Oh, how times have changed. I would have never thought having a bowl of ramen at a Monster Ramen would give me this much pleasure. Part of it will (in fact, most of it) be on me and my general philosophy on fusion cuisine and outdated gemerational gap. There was definitely a time when avoiding agorementioned type of restaurants may have been deemed smart. But I feel the new generation of restaurant owners and chefs have up'd their games in not only at better food making, but also accepting of a bit more irony. Anyone who knows me knows how much I stay away from trying anything "fusion." It's kinda funny to myself how hypocritical it is that I would be totally okay in substituting an ingredient or two when I'm missing some when cooking, but when it comes to paying money to sit and eat that I would judge chefs by thier style of cooking. Yes, a big part of it is based on a large pool of personally gathered data, but I do acknowledge that I need to open myself up a bit more. Case in point. I was recommended MR by a fellow Yelper and I decided to give it a whirl. I happened to have a friend and his son with me, so I was able to do small tastings of 3 different ramen. And boy, was I pleasantly surprised. We collectively had bowls of shio, shoyu and miso specials. Plus, I ended up getting the Summer Special bowl to go for my wife. All of them had their individual charm to them but more importantly, each of them were made to perfection when it came to broth seasoning and noodle texture, which are THE two most important aspect of ramen, in my opionion. Not too salty nor bland soup. Perfectly dense noodles. I just loved all four! It wad when I tasted the yuzu in tgeir shio ramen that my wife would love it. Even though I brought her the spicy Sunmer version home, I still think it'll be worth bringing her and our daughter back when we get a chance to. Our server Dionne (I think) was most pleasant and helpful. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, too.
