Yum! People were lined up at open, and for good reason. I'd absolutely return for another bowl of ramen

Ramen was soo good it was gone in 6 seconds (no pic) but the Squid heads were genius! My fave part of calamari crispy all to myself! Bao to everyone. Sorry, rambling cos I'm in happy place right now! Blame the sake!

This is a cute ramen spot - intimate and perfect for a date night. It's kind of hidden so make sure to look for the address on the door. Service was quick and friendly. The person I came with ordered the Spicy miso and I ordered the Tonkotsu. The pork cut was a perfect balance of meaty and fatty, not dry at all. I don't usually crave ramen but I'm adding this place to my list of to go ramen places in Chicago.

Tonkotsu ramen: a bit on the salty side. Good volume. Noodle's not too hard or soft. Thick pork belly. A bit uneven on the portion of pork belly. I got mostly lean meat which can be a bit dry. The other one got mostly fat which can be too oily at the end. A balanced lean and fat would be even better. Egg is done correctly. Love the addition of woodear mushroom and bamboo shoots to boost the texture. Takoyaki is the best one I've had in US. Very crispy on the outside. You can actually see the chunks of squid inside. Be careful it's very hot. Pork belly Bao: was worried the chasiu sauce can be too sweet but not at all. Good flavor and generous meat. Mayo sauce balanced really well Price is very reasonable for the portion. Tiny table and space, very Japanese style but could be difficult for plus size. Service's great. Staff are really nicely and considerate

Had been wanting to try this place for ramen. Decided to do a to go order. Easy to order from their website and the food was ready on time. The interior was fantastic and the restaurant was packed when we picked up our food. The food was delicious and we will be back.

Easily the best tantanmen I've had in Chicago. The broth was really flavorful and had a nice level of spice. Not SUPER spicy either. The menma was really delicious as well. The pork in the Spicy Miso and Goku Tonkotsu were REALLY delicious too. Absolutely thrilled to find a place that serves Orion, my favorite Japanese beer. The decor is super sleek and clean and the atmosphere is an excellent relaxed vibe. The only complaint I have would be the short hours but it makes it feel all the more special when you can slot it into your schedule.

Happy to have a delicious ramen spot in Lincoln Square! My husband and I stopped by on a Friday night and ordered the chicken ramen and the chicken wings and shared both. Both were fantastic! I loved the garlic soy on the chicken wings. The service was also very friendly and we also got hooked on a new TV show because our server recommended it to us--a testament to how friendly everyone is. The vibes feel true to the many times I've been to Japan and I love the modern, sleek look and feel. Prices are on the higher side--$$ and there are limited tables, so it might be worth grabbing a reservation on a weekend! We enjoyed the experience for our date night!

I came in and got one of the last seats at the bar, it was pretty packed for a Wednesday night. The staff was attentive, but not ever rushing me. The seating is primarily for 2 people and though there is a single 4 top. The food was very good - I got the spicy Ramen. The flavors were fantastic and not overwhelmed by spice. The dumplings were good, but I'll skip straight to the ramen next time.

Love that an authentic Ramen place is near Chicago's Lincoln Square! - Brussel sprouts were shockingly delicious with crispy slices of garlic on top & deliciously fried morsels of Brussels. - Goku Tonkotsu ramen is a classic - house made bbq pork char siu, nice jammy egg, and thin noodles - my friend loved the spicy tan tan ramen While the space only seats about 30 people between booths & the bar, the service is very attentive & you still feel like you have your private space.

As a lover of Ramen Wasabi, I knew I had to check this place out. The inside is a little smaller than Wasabi but my bf and I had no issues finding a spot for dinner on the weekend at the bar. We only had to wait a few minutes to be seated. We were pleasantly surprised. For food, they have a vegan ramen which I made vegetarian since I love having egg noodles and an egg (costs extra) in it as well. The broth is amazing. I highly recommend their vegan ramen. Finding a vegan/vegetarian ramen with a flavorful broth can be so difficult to find, but they have mastered it. I will definitely go back! My bf also loves their (non-vegetarian) spicy ramen and ranks Akahoshi and Menya Goku as his favorite ramen spots in the city!

Menya goku is a place you'd find only if you were looking for it or passing by randomly and peering in. There's no store signage or advertisement. It's a small space with limited seating for groups. It's really perfect to go with a date or groups up to 4 people. I was surprised it was on the empty side when we got there around 7pm on sat. If by chance there is a wait, there is a waitlist at the front. All the ramen options are delicious. You can't go wrong with any of them. I find that the goku tan tan men is the spiciest. The other spicy ramen on the menu are more manageable. We also had the snow maiden sake which was on the sweeter side. It's a quiet, intimate ramen place. Highly recommend for the ramen lover. Make sure to check the double check the hours before heading over. I've found that the hours to be flexible and been burned a few times during the weekday.

Cute location. Very busy when we came but they do have a wait list where they call you which is nice. The ramen was good, especially the broth. I didn't like the takoyaki. For added context, I used to live in Japan, takoyaki is my fave food, and I liked it enough to get it tattooed on me. That said, I'm in America and I give people a pass. It's the takoyaki I like least that I've ever tried. The batter tasted like it was completely unseasoned. There wasn't much flavor in it. They put bulldog sauce on it instead of takoyaki sauce as well... The last thing was we didn't get our drinks until after our food came and we had to ask them to get it. Also the menu said the ginger beer was local...it was fever tree...

What a special spot! I ordered Menya for takeout, but upon picking up my order I knew that was a mistake. The space so beautiful! The ambiance is welcoming, and the tiny two-person booths make for the perfect date night. My food was ready to go when I arrived and everything survived the transport back home. The carry out packaging was perfect with the noodles & toppings in one bowl and the broth in another. All I had to do was add the broth and it was ready to go (and still hot!). I went with the goku tonkotsu ramen, which is made of pork broth, charisu pork belly, egg, menma, black mushroom, green onion, and sesame. I also added bean sprouts for an additional $1.50. The flavor profile of this ramen was so delicious. The pork was the best I've had in ramen, so tender and flavorful! The only addition I didn't care for was the black mushrooms which are more of a cold, gelatinous mushroom. I also ordered the pan fried gyoza. These were delicious, and I love the sauce they were served with! I cannot wait to try more from the menu. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and authentic. I'm excited to come back and dine in person!

The ambiance is really fun and casual although it's incredibly loud. Service was great except for how poorly they handled that amount of covers. Receiving half empty cups of water for 45 minutes is unacceptable for how much you can expect to pay per person. Similarly, getting individual plates only after the last call AND after we're done eating was a bit shocking to me. The food was below average too which makes this a very hard pass for me next time. From everything we ordered the bang bang shrimp and nuggets did stand out but just weren't enough for how frankly disappointing everything else was.

The Alaskan cod sandwich was served on a bed of cabbage covered in a sweet teriyaki & brown mustard sauce with maybe a squeeze of kewpie sprinkled in between. For the main attraction I ordered the spicy garlic ramen that was such a delightful mouth experience it really hit all the taste buds! The noodles were perfectly bouncy with the right amount of chew. The jellied egg was perfect and rounded the soup very well! The red chili threads enhanced the spicy miso broth just enough to slurp all the delicious goodness down! My husband ordered the Sapporo miso soup which had more of a creamy type of broth vs the spicy garlic. The noodles were also thinner than regular ramen & had a bouncy springy texture that just hit the spot! Watching an employee use their bare hands and mouth on food that was then served to a customer was extremely concerning and completely unacceptable from a food safety and hygiene standpoint. In no way had my body rested. Donned in dawn, my underwear-pajamas slightly slid down revealed a sad vision of man, sloppily tangled in ruffled sheets. Exposed. There is nothing pretty about me, I thought, as I pondered if the sunlight were judging what it saw. Before reaching my current perch on the living room couch, I sat in bed flicking through news in search of something good, but simultaneously only pausing on the bad. Glorifying in the doom, really. It was the pinch I needed to prove I was indeed awake. All day I seek the pinch of pain to prove I am not dreaming. Coffee, cats, clothes, splashof water, and 20 steps later I find myself in the planning pose, here in the living room. The planning pose is very much like the wake-startle, sans the sheets and exposed crack. It involves me laying here on the couch actually reading the articles I perused earlier. I like to rationalize that the information gleaned is to set me up for a day of human interaction. Perhaps it is a study session to get up to human-social-speed. Right now it is dawning on me -- my second uninvited dawn of the day -- that perhaps behavior isn't responsible humanity, it is prolonged self torment. The tighter pinch. The proverbial purple nurple of challenging my awakened state. Cats gather around me. One at my feet and the other curled beside my thigh. Am I king to them? They are fed. Surely they are not here in need of something. Have I done something to warrant this attention? My affection toward them is inconsistent. It ebbs in startling fits of overly attentive playing or petting followed by long droughts of disregard. My ambivalence as their king gives me this luxury, and supports my theory that they may think I am indeed king. This is the type of cyclical example loop I am using as evidence to propel me from the underwear'ed fat man the sun observed moments ago. Evidence that says: "See, Sun, I am more than the larva you spotlighted. I am a god! The cats are evidence! And they sleep in your sun-puddles in undisputed, recognizable perfection, not the ugly crack-exposed heap you found me in. You love them. They love me. So, pinch yourself, and stop judging me!" Obviously the coffee is working, or maybe the cats are doing their trick: making me feel accepted in the universe. Whatever the case may be, I pet my cat. Dander floats into the sun's beams and crystallizes in the air. If you've ever seen dust in a thinly sliced light beam at dawn you know: Hope is the accidental luck of shadows bouncing off of the chaos but always cutting through. Always meeting a surface. Penetrating the thickest of atmospheres and colliding on flowers and alleys, on well planned solar panels, on potholes, through any crack, on my crack, projecting obtuse triangles, acute bi-angles, and isosceles quad-tangles, even while penetrating deep into the sea, revealing all the magnificent details of art, and occasionally falling on me. Trees bend to it. I give the cat closest a good scratch behind the ear and look out the window at the trees greening in spring. A dog walker pauses to pick up excrement. A squirrel cowers behind a branch. The ramen restaurant on the corner is cut through by light warming empty tables; tables preparing to slurp up hungry, hopeful lunchers into the belly of contentment. Dark, seemingly an antagonist to light's hero demeanor, sheepishly slinks away, humbly realizing it is not the opposite of light, but the absence. "Beautiful," I think as I see the spicy broth of life warming in the sun glow beyond the glass. Yes. It is beautiful. It really is. I couldn't see how much in the dark but the rhythm out the window is now clear. I turn to my cat, who is winding down a purr. We share a slow-blink gaze at one another as the last sliver of dawn is replaced with shadow in my house. He moves to the window sill to soak in every second as it departs. "Welp, buddy. Nothing left now. Time to bend to the light"
