Came here to get a haircut. There was 3 barbers and 2 of them were giving haircuts. No one came up to me at the front desk...all three looked at me and just acted like I was not there. No "hello" or "I will be with you in a second". So I sat for no joke 10 minutes and nooooooo one came to help me. I just ended up walking out no one gave a damn or said one word to me. Was the weirdest thing ever. I will tell everyone and anyone who will listen to NEVER come here and trust me...all I do day in and day out is talk with businesses in the area. So good luck read more

I recently moved to Rudy's in Redmond to follow ANNIE. She has been taking care of me at the Main St. location in Bellevue location since 2017 and I intend to follow her wherever she goes. Based on my long-term relationship and experience as a loyal client, I can confidently vouch that Annie's talent, eye for detail, genuine care and level of service is unmatched. There are instances when it is inevitable that I get a haircut somewhere else, especially when traveling long-term or overseas, and I always regret not waiting until I get back home. And admittedly, it also stresses me out when she goes on vacation :) . Nobody does as great of a job as Annie! Given that I like to see Annie every 10-14 days (yes, I get 26-30 haircuts annually), I always ensure that my hair appointments are pre-booked in advance. I will note that it is extremely rare that I would arrive without anyone on her chair, or with another client waiting for their turn before my appointment is done - needless to say, Annie is sought after, and it shows through her solid client base. I have been getting my haircut at the Downtown Redmond Rudy's on and off for several years except during COVID. I'm a middle-aged male with "uncomplicated hair"; I usually opt for a "buzz cut" and I'm not too picky and I don't have a "preferred stylist", in fact I don't think I have ever had the same stylist twice. I choose appointments based on schedule. And generally at Rudy's, I have been happy with my experience. But yesterday I was disappointed with the experience I had with a stylist named Shy. Normally I would not single out an employee by name when writing a less-than-favorable review on Yelp or other platforms, but sometimes it seems appropriate especially when the negative experience seems more a function of the employee than the business itself. 1. While a "buzz cut" is not meant to be a long or complicated endeavor, in my past experience, the stylist has spent about 15 minutes on me to make the buzz cut nice, and make sure everything is all even and such, and appearing to take pride in their work. But in my experience yesterday, I was in the chair no more than perhaps 4 minutes. When new army recruits report to boot camp and have their heads shaved, I suspect they get more than 4 minutes. 2. In the past, the stylist for a buzz cut has always included a shampoo (included in the price). I was not offered a shampoo. 3. Perhaps most disappointingly, Shy was grumpy and uncommunicative. I attempted to make "small talk" but she completely ignored me. No greeting, no "how are you today?", no smile, no "thank you" afterwards, just stern and angry-looking and sour and dour. So I paid $43 for an experience of 4 minutes, which comes out to $645 per hour. Lawyers at white shoe law firms work for less than that. Any stylist at Rudy's is representing the Rudy's brand and imparting an image of Rudy's. If this is the kind of person that Rudy's is hiring and retaining these days, that is a reflection on their brand, and I think I'll go elsewhere next time. If I want a 4-minute buzz cut, I can get one from some cheapo place or from my brother-in-law. But I'd rather pay $25 to a conventional barber who will appreciate my patronage, be friendly and conversational, and take the time to do a nice job with a little bit of heart and passion. read more

I needed a stylist who would not have a problem with a hairstyle for a queer woman, especially cutting it as short as I wanted it. First thing she did was buzz my chin short, ruining the whole point of why I went. Also she never faded any of it. I've been coming to this Rudy's location for years now and this is a barbershop I trust. Had many good experiences getting haircuts here in the past from plenty of different barbers. Today they really went above and beyond by helping me fix a haircut from another shop that went horribly wrong. I called Rudy's to make an appointment and they were able to see me within an hour. (I believe my barber's name was Sang.) When I got there, I explained to the barber what haircut I had originally wanted and what had happened at the other shop. He got to work and 20 minutes later I left Rudy's with a very nice looking haircut. I'm very grateful and he absolutely saved the day - thank you. Everybody deserves a barbershop you can trust, and after years of coming here and seeing lots of different barbers, I really do trust and recommend this shop. Really freaking disappointing and I hope the operational folks improve that process because it sucks (especially coming from someone with SEVERE social anxiety who had to use up a bunch of spoons to gather the courage to make an appointment in the first place). I walked in unsure how what I was asking for could possibly turn out well (awkward transition haircut between short men's haircut and my goal of messy 2008 emo guy hair) and walked out feeling fresh to death and almost disgustingly full of myself. idk what kind of forbidden magic Shy is up to but I highly recommend you experience it yourself. Brought my ten year old for a long hair trim. Unfortunately, we won't be back because the lack of accommodation for kids made it an uncomfortable experience. Pros: -polite and friendly -air conditioned -validated parking Cons: -hair wash sinks clogged and fill with water that your hair sits in as it gets rinsed -my fifth grader wasn't tall enough for the sink and there was nothing for him to sit on -the chair doesn't go high enough for long hair. Great haircut, super nice workers but some reviews say this is the best haircut for 30 dollars, this looked accurate with the two $$ on yelp. When I went in and got my haircut I was charged $56. I would recommend them if you're prepared to pay that price, they also potentially charge you for parking as well. Have gone in five separate times to three stylists thinking I would get something different if I just picked someone else. I didn't. Everyone I've had has ignored the pictures I showed them and requests not to make it too short. They have made my hair too short every time--and not in the way that haircuts are usually short. It was cut much shorter than I asked. I asked to blend my beard neckline in, instead my beard was cut short and the "shape" is now uneven. I've been going to various Rudy's shops, in a pinch, for a couple decades now. Just as espresso vendors are only as good as individual baristas, so are barber shops only as good as their individual stylists. I could go to a Rudy's shop and get a crap cut one day and return to the same shop and get an amazing cut by a different person on another day. Therefore, I feel one has to judge a Rudy's on the peripheral elements; customer service and accommodation, cleanliness, atmosphere and expense. And I have to say, good marks all around for this Redmond location! They got me in without an appointment. My wait was just as long as they told me. They were polite, and checked in with me as I waited. The place was kept clean, with people sweeping between cuts. Importantly, I saw stylists cleaning their tools between cuts- something to watch out for. My cut was pretty good, and the price was very reasonable. The place was clean, the music wasn't too obnoxious, and I observed the desk staff looking after a man's service animal during his cut- very responsible and compassionate. Most Rudy's are three-star joints at best. This one is a little better than most. Recommended. read more

I was scheduled for a first time cut with Shy and I have to say it was the worst haircut experience I've ever had. She was immediately short & incredibly impatient with me, acted like it was such an inconvenience that I was even sitting in her chair. Never once tried to be friendly or make small talk with me. I was excited to be going to a place that was LGBT inclusive but was just made to feel that I didn't belong at all. I get sometimes we all have bad days but there was no kindness or even a hello how are you in any of her interactions with me from the moment I sat down. Plus she straightened my hair (which I've never done before), and I love it! I talked to a couple other stylists, and they all seemed totally chill and friendly. Just had my haircut at Rudy's in Redmond with Nick (Nicholas M). Nick did an fantastic job with my cut. It's hard to find that perfect barber that meets all your expectations - that is Nick. He did the clippers and scissor work great, neck trim with a straight razor, shampoo, scalp massage, hot face towel, and styling. He even offers straight razor shaves and beard trims. Rudy's is a great place, easy access in downtown Redmond, with lots of parking in their garage. Go see Nick for a fantastic haircut and/or shave. read more

I've always been wary of Rudy's because of the name (barbershops aren't usually good for women, and Rudy was the name of my first dog) and, let's be honest, the Space Invaders wall decor suggests a clientele that may not be super-discriminating. So I was surprised when it was recommended to me for fun haircolors by someone with a really good head of bright blue hair. I consider myself as having discriminating taste, but then again, I have a pair of Space Invaders socks, so I gave it a shot. I'm so glad I did! I was set up for a consultation with Danielle, who laid out my options. She was sensitive to the costs involved and explained the length of the various choices. We agreed on an approach, and I was booked for a three hour appointment on Monday evening. I liked that Danielle was both the stylist and the colorist, as it allowed her to make choices with the coloring that made sense with the intended style. We did a fairly simple, neat cut, covered up my gray roots and freshened up the overall color ... and then ... bright purple highlights, baby! She did the color choice and application just right - it's fun and it pops but I still look like an adult, which is important from time to time. Rudy's isn't the "posh" experience of a Gene Juarez but honestly, if you can do without the frills, I thought the service was attentive and the stylist really took time to listen to what I wanted, at a much better price point. Overall, I had a great experience and look forward to my next color adventure here! read more

Exactly what I asked for! I started a DIY haircut and got to a point of no return, called on a saturday and got in a couple hours later. My stylist, Jerry, looked at a couple snapshots I brought and nailed a precision cut. I appreciated that he took the time to get my multitude of layers right and didn't rush even tho someone was waiting and he went over time. The next in line got their cut comped which was pretty nice of them to do, more than just an apology is rare. Personally, I have seen people pay way too much at salons to get something that they could have gotten at a place like this because it all depends on your stylist understanding what you want and being able to do it. I came in expecting a $32 haircut, they'll at least know what I'm going for and may or may not be able to execute. This exceeded my expectations and I didnt feel ripped off. read more

I came in and the hair stylist, Alice said she did it before, and when it was done I was surprised at how much hair was gone. I came home to compare me to what the hairstyle I was aiming at, looked nothing alike. The fade wasn't done right, and too much hair on my top was taken off which makes my hair really hard to style with. Personally, if you haven't trained to style Black hair or biracial hair before, it would have been nicer to point me to a place that knows how to handle my hair type. read more

When you are thinking of barber shops, there tends to be three tiers - the low level (where you really can't pick the stylist, they tend to be more junior and you are just as likely to get a bad haircut as a good one), and the very high end (where you are paying through the nose for a good haircut, but end up wondering whether it was worth it) are common. Rudys is a nice spot between those two extremes. You get competent stylists and can practically guarantee a good haircut (win over the likes of Sports Clips), but you aren't paying for the "Gene Juarez" experience either. I didn't have a stylist in mind, but my stylist was really good at listening to what I wanted. I'm trying to change my hair style, so first cut is a step in the right direction (you don't change certain things over night!) . The cost was a third of what I spent at Gene Juarez last time. The location is awesome and the decor is geeky and they play music that makes the time pass quickly. I'm definitely returning! read more

This review doesn't reflect the stylist that was seen on another date. It reflects my attempt to purchase product for my son. I called prior to making the nearly 45 minute drive there to make sure they're open and that they'd allow someone to just purchase products. They confirmed that they were open and that they'd allow me to purchase products. I get there only to discover that they do not accept cash due to covid, but they failed to inform me this while on the phone. Once there, my son was informed that they only accept card. When my son returned to the car and explained to me what he was told, I phoned Rudy's while parked in front and was told that they do not have cash to give back as change, to which I offered for them to keep the change; it was worth it to be because we drove a long way to get there and were prepared to purchase enough product to last my son for a while. However, the receptionist informed me that it wasn't that they don't have change, but that they're simply not accepting cash due to covid. While in solution mode, I phoned again to see if they'd accept PayPal or Venmo, to which she declined. However, I was informed that they accept Apple Pay, but that didn't do me any good while I await for new cards to arrive resulting from my wallet being stolen. This was handled poorly by the receptionist and whomever I spoke to on the phone the first time. This is the only time that I've been to a business that has rejected cash due to covid. I'm a healthcare provider treating patients recovering from covid and we take cash... I understand policies differ, but as I said, the lack of them communicating this while we were on the phone the first time and wasting 1.5hr of my time driving there and back is the reason for this review. The problem with Rudy's is the half ass customisations done on half dry hair, sorry Rudy's I'm not about to spend $30 to blow dry my hair in a 'blowout' that won't last the minute I walk out. I asked for a L-O-B not a B-O-B. Big difference. It's 2018 not 1990. We all don't want to look like Victoria Beckham. So the lob was supposed to be longer and angled with more weight in the front. What did I get? A shitty Mrs. Swan from Mad TV cut. You can't fix this fuck up after cutting everything to my jaw line in one blunt fouling swoop. I have been to this Rudy's Redmond location about six or eight times, with a few different people cutting my hair, trying to give them a chance to give me a decent haircut. I have given each person a second or third chance and have gotten a lousy haircut. I have been told by the person who answered the phone that they do good short fade haircuts for men. They do not. The last person who "cut" my hair, did not know how to do a fade. He would twirl the comb across my hair and zip the razor across the comb and did not take off anything. I had to keep telling him what to do and he still couldn't give me a fade. read more

For those in East Seattle looking for a good, LBGT friendly place to cut men's hair- this is it! I am very loyal to my barber. I like things consistent, someone I can trust with my hair (I realize that sounds weird, but inconsistencies can lead to mistakes), and someone who knows how to cut right. So after moving here to Seattle searching for a new barber, and being with the same barber prior for nearly 6-years, it was pretty nerve racking to say the least walking into Rudys here in Redmond. Walking in, I felt like I was cheating on someone (my former barber) or like when you go on a first blind date. So nervous! Needless to say, thank goodness for a place that made me feel welcomed, comfortable and also, for Lauren (my new barber here at Rudy's) who also just moved here and did an amazing job. She made me feel like I've been going here for haircuts for years. I had no idea how to describe what my former barber did, but she picked up on it immediately and made her magic happen. It just shows, she knows her stuff. I made an online reservation which made things so easy. Their free dedicated parking area was also easy to access. And then you walk into this place and feel like you're walking into a San Francisco salon. I think this is the first place I've been to here in Redmond that is LGBT friendly and proud of it. They have LGBT flags on their windows, and clearly a lot of the clientele are LGBT themselves. Funny thing, being gay and all, I didn't even realize this was the case until I stepped foot inside. Prices are decent and affordable. Products are unique. They dont carry a lot of high end brands. But that's also what makes them who they are. read more
