Friendly roller skating car hops - what more do you need to know about this old school drive-in. When we travel if we see a place like this we will stop. This is the first one I can remember that actually has the wait staff on roller skates. This appears to be an old A&W from the color scheme of the building. It has the typical drive-in menus and speaker system. You can order from both your car or from tables so you don't have to dine in your car. The food was decent and the prices reasonable. My chili dog was small and the cheese was slices of American cheese vs. shredded cheese you find on such items at other places. It was OK. The raspberry malt was better. I love this classic drive-in with car hops on roller skates restaurant! After all, there aren't too many places you can get a root beer float in a heavy glass mug delivered to your car window. I noticed there's several picnic tables as well if you don't want to eat in your car. And from the looks of it dogs are welcome at these tables as long as they're on a leash. Their root beer reigns supreme!! I thoroughly enjoyed my root beer float. I had forgotten just how perfect they taste. Yum! I saw a couple gallons of root beer leaving the restaurant with young families. Great memories! Our car tried onion rings, chicken strips and hot dogs. Everyone was satisfied with their food. Onions rings - crispy and delicious. Service good as it gets. Chili dog was good, nothing fancy but chili, cheesy and chopped onions. Pork tenderloin sandwich, taste okay, not much flavor besides a pork ground patty bread and slap on sesame bun with lettuce. This place on La Crosse Steet is just as I remembered it from years past less a few modernizations. The food is always good, and it is a nice experience to enjoy a drive in experience. My wife and I shared the pork tenderloin, and onion rings along with a root beer. I have to say I do miss the food tray on the window, and the root beer served in mugs. Rudy's has that 80's vibe with the roller skates and trays where I cringe and brace myself if someone might drop a tray of food and drinks. I have to say, I tried their Turkey Burger and Onion Rings for the first time, and it was really good! Thick burger with onions, lettuce, mayo, and I added ketchup myself. I love the fact that they give you bottles instead of packets. I wish more places would do that if you dine in, instead of wasting packets which cause litter anyways. The burger had a really good flavor. The onion rings were beer battered, which is "ok", but they didn't seem that hot. My husband got fries and I had a couple of his and they were really good! I do wish their onion rings were breaded rather than beer battered. I I do wish that they would accept cards! I hate carrying cash! I was so exited to try out Ruby since my bf hype this place up. A lot. But, I was quite disappointed. First of all, they aren't that cheap, even though the prices of all items are less than $6, most entree food doesn't come with a sides, so once you add sides, the price would come up to around $10 per person, which, don't get me wrong, isn't expensive at all but again, because the hype was so high, I expected to pay a bit less. Okay, done with the venting, my bf and I ordered a hamburger, a buffalo burger, a chilli fries, onion rings, and 2 shakes. My least favorite are the chilli fries and the burgers. The chilli tasted like canned chilli; lack of spices, tasted very dull and smelled a bit too chemical. The burgers were very dried... Move on to my favorite: the onion rings and the shakes! The onion rings were actually perfect! So crunchy and the onion stays in the ring when you bite into it! The shakes is AMAZING! It's good, not great but the French fries and onion rings are done right! Hubs thought fish sandwich was OK, he loves Culver's. My double cheeseburger was good, I expected grill flavor, but must be flat top, but no crusty bits either. I usually don't like super soft buns or bread, but it was great and did not soak out. Which was exactly like Rudy's is now. You drive your car up to a speaker that has a menu on it, and you order your food. You never get out of your car. This place was highly recommended to me and I adore the place. I mean the burger I ordered was expertly made with yummy melted gooey cheese. I added some ketchup and mustard from the adorable little window cart and dug in. This place offers dole whip which I have not had since Disney world. It was so refreshing after hiking all morning. Service was easy you push a button to order and the food comes out quickly via a server on roller skates. They have some skill moving those little window cart tray things around. My wife enjoyed the Turtle Sundae and daughter enjoyed her Bubble Gum flavored Ice Cream cone. It was a nice night and they have seating outside and inside as well, or you can just hang out in your car! I ordered a super burger with bacon, onion rings, and a shake. Good food overall. Kind of reminds me of Culvers. The burger was large and definitely filled me up! The onion rings had a good amount of breading to onion ratio. The shake was perfect consistency and flavor. This is kind of an A&W old school experience with girls on roller blades and that classic American food. I docked it one start because they ONLY accept cash which is kind of annoying. After I had experienced Buffalo for the first time in steak and burger form at a sit down restaurant I was curious as to what it tasted like in a drive-through setting. So, of course, I ordered Rudys' Buffalo Burger and then realized afterwards it was just a normal burger with buffalo sauce...however it was still tasty. Skipping right to DESSERT next, (which is very important) their turtle sundae (which I'm a sucker for at all ice cream places) actually is not made with caramel but with butterscotch which I thought would be way too strange (not too familiar with butterscotch in general) but was very delicious. They also have those soft serve cones you can only get at zoo's or McDonalds' anymore that are swirly (and they have the zebra flavor!) Instead of their root beer float or just a plain soda I recommend you get adventurous and try the Root Beer Cooler. it's a BLEND of root beer and ice cream!
