Update 11/2018: (one star) Don't bother hiring David & son for long-term assignments. (June 2018)David demanded a key to get into my property, instead of setting a day/time when I could expect him. I declined giving David a copy of my gate key because it also opens every door to my home. After much back and forth, David finally agreed to contact me when he was on the way - since I work from home (always at home or within 10 mins of my house). This worked. (August) Fast forward a few months, David (grumpy as always) tells me "you have many trees, I will have to charge more in the fall". That's it, didn't mention how much or when the "new fee" would start. (October 20th) Two months later I received an invoice in my mail box(1st time, as David verbally requested a check in the past when he wants payment). The invoice showed an increase in landscaping fees. So I text David to confirm this increase was due to the leaves falling and to confirm the amount. David's son responded that yes my "fee was increased two months ago and they ALSO were not coming this week due to more important Commercial clients" (temporary clients mind you)! Haven't seen David & son since, that was two weeks ago. Very bad attitude and very unprofessional.

I'm sure they probably offer service to most residents of other zip codes as well, best to call and inquire with them. I'm only familiar with what I've seen in my area. Jose's service has been operating & thriving in my area for more than twenty years, despite competition from younger ownership or spin-off start up's. Which I haven't yet had reason to switch too. The lawn service guys are usually in the area from week to week. I like that their boss is usually with them on jobs. So, if you have a specific job in mind, you can discuss that with him and he will work up an order on the spot. There is one price specific to the size of your lawn and the general upkeep of the lawn and bushes (if any). Separate charges for additional work. I.e. a nice garden area around your trees, tree cutting, additional fertilizer sprays, brick work around gardens or the removal of a dying bush. I believe their charges are for a couple visits within a two week span per month and those monthly charges are pretty low in comparison to some of the larger companies whose advertisements you'd recognize from national television. Two weeks per month they are maintaining the lawn and then two weeks till the stuff grows back and they return to maintain. Naturally if you wanted more supervision of your lawn, one could request that. Unfortunately they do not have a website nor do they answer their phones in real time. That being because Jose is usually with the guys on the road and returns calls when possible. On a side note; if you ask for a one time service call to other addresses, they will consider the job. I've had this done, kind of like a gift of a clean lawn to friends that were in dire need of assistance in that department.

Things…read morestarted well during the initial consultation and quote for new sod installation, turf cleaning, and additional lawn-care work. Unfortunately, communication became extremely difficult after I paid the deposit. I repeatedly called and emailed to confirm when the work would begin, often receiving no response. On two occasions, Javier and the team said they would come on a specific day but did not arrive or provide an update. This was especially frustrating because I was rearranging my work schedule while also dealing with family emergencies. More than a month after the deposit was paid, I was told the work was complete, although only the sod installation and turf cleaning had been performed. During the original consultation, I had also specifically discussed trimming trees and shrubs, adding mulch, removing weeds along the side of the house, and several other services. When I asked about the missing work, I received this response: "Regarding your recent questions, our original quote only included turf maintenance and new sod installation. We added the mulch at no cost as we had extra material available. The trimming and weeding you mentioned were not part of the initial scope of work." That response did not at all line up with the conversation Javier and I had during the consultation. Regardless of what ultimately appeared in their invoicing system, the scope of work was not communicated clearly. The lack of responsiveness and two missed appointments made the experience extremely frustrating and it was in no way worth the high price. Based on the poor communication, delays, missed appointments, and disagreement over the promised work, I would not hire Medina again and cannot recommend the company.
