Happy feet... When you're looking for some shoes and I've been here many times to get some much needed support for my feet from socks to various accessories to make the process easy and comfortable, and though I've been there many times I still though I knew which shoe would work best for my workout. The staff here are very helpful and knowledgeable and I just love how they display their shoes to make the viewing process easy. It can certainly be pricey though I think that the foundation of your feet is absolutely worth the price but they do have great sales as well so I do stop by frequently to see what they have. They have a community board for events and clubs which is great if you're starting or just curious where to begin, lots of free parking right beside the building though the entrance is on Sheridan Street and the exit is on Kapiolani Blvd or if just you're running in check them out. I thoroughly enjoy this Runner's Route! I've been to a few shoe stores and running shops but none as treasured as this corner store. For me it's not just about a product, it's the people!!! I see Charles a lot on my visits and even asked for him this time! It was my first time in a while where I walked in and didn't see him there. I had to ask! He also knows about these milk chocolate frames I had my eye on, but didn't have the guts to purchase when I tried them on initially, and each return has been a big part of this lesson in, "just get the sunglasses girl. Just get them." They haven't had them in stock since. But Charles is always so kind when I come in looking for them and even took my name down for when they finally do arrive. Because they will! A girl can dream. But Charles wasn't there, and that's okay. I am in full support of his days off! Plus! I got to meet Aiya! Who is another wonderful employee!!! After hearing what I was looking for in my next running shoe, her first pick was the pair I ended up with. I told her I like to try on a few things at once and after my stroll around the store she had another pair as an option. But the first pair were Da Ones, hands down. I decided to check out the Hoka brand as I have been told these shoes are quite light and have great support and cane highly recommended by friends who do more walking than running, and by people who are on their feet a lot. Was looking for new pairs of running shoes, work shoes, and maybe one for casual wear. Initially I was only thinking of buying one. But when coming to Runners Route the staff here specifically Aki was soo helpful and efficient! She first started by measuring my feet and asked what I was looking for. She then immediately went to grab shoes that met what I was looking for and adjusted her shoe selection based on how I felt about the shoes she initially brought out. And in the end I bought not one, not two, but all 3 shoes that I needed. The best shoe i expected it to be $180 which turned out to be $160. My husband and I came to Hawaii for our honeymoon and he wanted to stop by here since he is getting ready to run a marathon on December. We've had our fair share of awkward interactions at running stores since a lo of the employees have no idea what they're talking about. We were so excited to talk with the staff here because they actually knew what they were talking about. I feel like staff like this makes the experience that much more personable and special. So I had a great experience here. They opened at 10am right on time. I received great service and the ladies answered all my questions. I forgot to bring my socks, so they were kind enough to loan me some. Total Rookie mistake and I highly recommend you bring your own. They still have signs up asking that customers wear a mask, luckily I had one in my glove compartment . They have a great selection of shoes but they are kind of pricey. The workers here are super patient and knowledgeable. I've bought a pair of shoes here that I really like--yes, HOKAs. They're so comfortable and light! I also got some insoles that make a cute (but not so comfortable) pair of shoes I already owned way more bearable to walk around in. I even wore them to Disneyland! The salespeople are very knowledgeable about shoes and fit. However, they tend to push the more expensive shoes rather than cheaper ones or the ones on sale. They also like to push Mizuno brand shoes. I don't know if there is more profit to be made on them. It was recommended that I try a Mizuno brand shoe which cost $179.95...plus an orthotic which was $50. Of course, no mention was made of the price. The shoes fit well in the store, but when I exercised with it, it was sore. The store policy was that if you wear the shoes outside of your home, it cannot be returned for a credit. So now I'm stuck with a $230 bill and shoes that I cannot wear. It's too bad because the salespeople are really nice.... read more

My only regret is not stopping by Runners Route sooner. This is the best store in the Ala Moana neighborhood for sports shoes and apparel. It has a wide variety of running shoes, many of which are on clearance. I compared the prices at Runners Route with Amazon, and you will find better deals here! You will also receive individualized attention that you will not get at big box stores. The sales associates are very friendly, attentive, and open to having you try a number of shoes until you find one that is the best fit. I love walking and I walk a considerable amount everyday. Walking is another form of meditation for me. Putting on my headphones to listen to music or a podcast while walking to work is a ritual I look forward to every weekday morning. On average, I walk approximately 15,000 steps everyday, excluding the exercise I get at the gym. On the weekend, I can walk up to 30,000 steps if I decide to walk to and from Downtown and Waikiki. That means I put a lot of mileage on my shoes. Over the weekend I discovered that the soles of the Børn walking shoes I bought only five months ago were already crumbling apart. I wanted to replace them with a pair of versatile and comfortable running shoes that I would be able to wear when walking around town, running at the gym, or hiking Diamond Head and Makapu'u. I saw that Yelp friend Kathy H. had recently bought several pairs of Hoka One One at Runners Route, and was happy with her purchases. I had worn Adidas, Brooks, and Sketchers sneakers before, but never Hoka. After doing some research on the internet, I learned that the maximalist Hoka shoe was founded by two French trail runners in 2009 when minimalist shoes, like Vibram FiveFingers, were considered trendy. Hoka is the antithesis of that. It is known as providing maximum cushioning. With all due respect to barefoot runners, I like as much cushioning in my shoes as possible! So, when I read that Hoka is, as Runner's World calls it, "the king of cushion", my decision was set to purchase a pair. Runners Route has Hoka One One shoes for men and women. For women's Hoka shoes, Runners Route sells the Bondi 6 and Clifton 5. One of the sales associates offered to have me try on the standard B width size as well as the wide sized shoe. I chose the standard B width because the wider shoe felt too big for me. I immediately wore my new Hoka shoes to the gym and wore them on my walk to work this morning. Hoka is now my new favorite brand of sneakers. I haven't worn a sneaker this comfortable in a long time. Hoka lives up to its reputation as being the most cushioned running shoe that is also lightweight. I will be buying my next pair of Hoka shoes at Runners Route. read more

After reading an article listing the best running shoes, on June 6th, 2024, I visited Runners Route with my list and plenty of time to try on as many as they had. It's been awhile, and I'm sorry to say I've forgotten the name of salesperson who went "above and beyond" in every way. He brought out every pair on the list, and knew everything about each of them. I must've been in the store for at least an hour trying each pair on, walking and running in them in an attempt to narrow the list. When I was down to the two finalists, I tried them on again to make a choice. I never felt rushed and finally chose the winner. It was ASICS "Nova Blast". They are a joy to run in, and I want to thank the gentleman who so graciously and patiently helped me. It was easy to give the business five stars, and they earned each one. Okay ... so my husband and I have been getting our athletic shoes on sale from Famous Footwear and Ross in the last few years ! We both can't seem to find the right shoe "match" for our individual foot needs ... so after being referred by a friend we went into Runners Route. We were kindly greeted by Ashton who helped walk us through the process ... they do a sizing which also entails a foot imprint of your foot print (of sorts) ... they could see I have a super high arch and after describing where my pain is he was able to recommend a few different shoes he thought I would benefit from. So I got a pair of Brooks gel shoes for running and a Asics shoe for Koko Crater climbing ! My husband found a good Asics pair for work and we both good compression socks - happy to report that I could tell a HUGE difference after my first run in them !!! Left happy and ready to run with two new pair of shoes, new running belts, gels and salt sticks for my partner and I. I usually tend to buy my shoes at the running room on Kapahulu but this place is open later till 6pm on Sundays! Typically they do not have Women's size 11 at runners route and running room does (big feet probs). However, when I went this past week they did have a size 11! The worker Henex was sooo helpful, more helpful than the recent help I have had at the running room. He was so patient and informative. A huge help to both my partner and I identify best shoes for our running. Usually I'm a Saucony or Brooks Ghost gal but loved the feel of the ASICS Nimbus 23. I saw someone post that mask is required for this store we almost did not enter because we didn't have masks and signage said masks please and we did not have any on hand due to the new rule change. However, they said we could come in and other shoppers did not have masks on. So I think it is optional?? read more

Actually, I'd recommend getting shoes that are specific to the sport or activity that you're going to participate in. We happened to be in the Ala Moana area today when we passed by Runners Route. Lucky for us, they were advertising a sale. For months, I had been bugging my husband to replace his running shoes because he, unlike me, only buys one pair of shoes specific for a sport. As we walked up to the sales tent, we were greeted right away by several sales representatives and asked about their Asics brand to replace his current shoes. One of the representatives assisted my husband by asking him several questions such as what activity (running or walking) my husband would use the shoes for and type(s) of terrain he'd mostly be on. He then asked to see the bottoms of my husband's shoes to see where most of the wear was (checking for pronation or supination). Another line of questions regarded whether or not my husband experiences any pain(s) in his hips, knees or feet. As with many shoes, even though you're looking at a specific brand, the model will differ in sizing. My husband had his feet measured on a Brannock device for length and width then all that was left to do was to get the model of shoe that would best fit him. The representative brought out 2 different models for my husband to try on. Both fit quite well but then it came down to color(s)...Asics often uses bold or eye-catching color combinations. But, the model which my husband selected was basically black and gray with a purple sole. He made the purchase and allowed Runners Route to dispose of his old shoes. The shoes were so comfortable that he wore them out of the store and we went for a 5+ mile walk without any issues. We are convinced that the product selections, attentive and knowledgeable customer service and prices at Runners Route will lead us to more adventures on foot. read more

These guys know there stuff. Super easy parking right in the little lot connecting them and the jeweler. I was able to get assistance from Aya, firstly she was just so nice. There was no pressure to buy anything. She helped get the correct for me and my ankles. Gave me options for fits. And once I decided I was able to get 2 pairs in different colours to help me with my marathon training. She gave me some samples of energy supplements for helping with my runs. And advice for what I might need for race day. I loved the no pressure atmosphere, no pushy sales person, just genuine help from someone passionate about running.
