For a brief moment I enjoyed joining a 5K and 10K walks/runs and with that I had no idea what type of shoes is for me as many recommend what is the best somehow it jut never really worked for me though the stability and comfort is what many brands to encourage they have my feet just says differently. There are moments when packet pick ups was here at the Running Room and with that I always somehow never leave without purchasing something as they just have so many items besides shoes and socks and the perfect location on Kapahulu with free parking does make it an easy place to shop as well and on this sad to hear of its closure did take me by surprise so I just had to pay them a visit and I guess many have known about it as basically majority of their inventory has already been sold. Luckily for my larger sized feet there was my size left though the color situation was sparse understandably I did find one that looked promising and decided to get my very first pair of Hoka. I haven't treated myself to a brand new shoe in years so it felt like a cloud but being cautious since my legs hurt the next day. Granted I walked in with a walking air cast and a crutch, I guess they didn't think I was looking for any shoes. I was open to getting a new pair of shoes if I saw one that i liked. No one greeted me as I entered. I really wanted the Hoka recovery slipper to wear to balance out the height of my air cast but none with in my size. Had to grab the attention of an employee who seemed quite peeved I called them over and then after looking quickly, she said sorry we don't have your size. Oh wells, the store looked rather empty. I checked out Running Room before trying Runners Route because I was eager to get a gait analysis. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a thorough analysis; though, I learned a couple of things about running shoes! The two female employees were helpful, welcoming and friendly. They were patient as my boyfriend, and I tried several pairs of running shoes. They shared their insights, personal experience and tips. Though, I will say that they seemed trained to be sales-oriented (which I don't hold against them). The reason for the 2-star deduction has to do with the male employee, who I presume is the manager or owner. He was not friendly. My boyfriend and I felt like he maybe took issue with us upon our entrance. He did not greet us, make eye contact or say anything. The first female employee seemed like a newer higher. She mentioned the gentleman could help us with a gait analysis--he heard but chose to ignore us (?). Instead, he was unloading and loading boxes, tending to another customer (who came long after us), and instructing the staff what to do. This gentleman wasn't overtly rude, but he made us feel uncomfortable. I suspected he thought we wouldn't spend money, and felt we weren't worth his time. In actuality, my boyfriend and I were ready to buy a pair of new shoes! We didn't buy anything because we were hesitant supporting such a business. Additionally, the prices of the shoes were slightly higher than other options we found off-island and online. Overall, not the best experience and not the worst. I'd strongly advise looking around before committing to anything! They have sales here that may be worth your while. But for me--customer service matters! They have a parking lot which they share with couple of other business. We called before we went down and they had the type of shoe but the color was limited to only 2 colors. If you ever bought shoes at the Running Room, you will never go any place else. The staff is incredibly knowledgable about running shoes. They have all run marathons. The owner/manager understands how people move their feet and what the movement means for shoes. I bought my first pair of shoes from him two years ago. I learned I was wearing the wrong size and wrong kind of shoe. I loved those shoes so much that I returned to buy another pair today. They take a lot of time with each customer and learn what the person needs. They also educated the customer. The prices are reasonable for the level of service. I also picked up some workout clothes that were on sale. They carry a lot of running gear. They have a small parking lot next to the building. They are a local small business. Mindy was extremely knowledgeable about shoes and what the best ones were for the way that I walk and run. They noticed that my right foot turns out a bit and that's stemming from it compensating for my tight hips on the right. Amazing that they read that because that's what my chiropractor and yoga instructors say, too. Got some On AG (Swiss brand). Apparently, they were on sale, so that's bonus, for a great value. I've previously been to Running Room (RR) a couple of times when I came specifically to purchase Wright socks. My cousin highly recommended me to get these specialty socks as he runs marathons periodically on the West Coast. As a novice who had completing a marathon on my bucket list, I purchased Wright socks from here. That was about 10 years ago. Fast forward 10 years - - I'm older where my body is experiencing aches and pain. I injured my ankle late last year where my podiatrist saw me 2x in about 3 months with the same injury. On my last visit the podiatrist recommended me to invest in a good pair of shoes to support my feet as I am on them a lot while juggling 2 jobs. She gave me a 15% off coupon to RR where I kept this in my wallet. I recently realized it was time to replace my shoes. In the past, I'd go to Ross as they're economical. This was the my plan until I opened my wallet and saw the coupon. This led me to pay a visit to RR. Located on the Diamond Head side of Kapahulu Ave, near Ono Seafood, RR has been in business since 1976. I drove to here on a recent weekday afternoon and easily found parking in their shared private parking lot. There were only a few patrons when I arrived and I made a beeline to their shoes display. Shortly after, I was approached by Noah, one of the floor associates, who greeted me and asked what I was looking for or if I had any questions. We started to have a conversation and the next thing I know he fired questions to me left and right, which caught me off guard as I clearly am not knowledgeable in shoes so this was a great education for me. After narrowing down to my specifics, Noah brought over several pairs of shoes for me to try. On each pair I tried on, he assessed how the shoe fit to ensure the length and width. I truly appreciate his patience as several more pairs were brought over me. Eventually my decision was narrowed down to 2 pairs and I ended up with my first choice for its comfort and fit, a silver colored pair of New Balance. Noah did mention to me they have a clearance section. At my part time job, I work in the fast food industry where I'm on my feet for hours. I wanted a second pair of shoes but of a darker color. I tried on a pair that fit well but the price was higher than what I budgeted for. But then I reminded myself the importance of investing in a good pair of shoes to support my needs and prevent future injuries. My decision was made and Noah rung up my 2 pairs of shoes. Since my purchase, I've worn both pairs of shoes where they clearly are more comfortable than what I've been getting from Ross. I'm on my feet for extended periods of time and glad to report my feet and ankles are both holding well. Overall, an amazing shoe shopping experience at RR where I wouldn't hesitate coming back again. I'd like to commend Noah, who is in his early 20's, amazing customer service by educating me with useful information, allowing me to try on multiple pairs of shoes and dedication to customer satisfaction. Recently took up running again. First time buying running shoes and tried this place out. Was helped by Gaston. Being that I'm a complete newbie to running shoes I picked his brain with all the random questions that I need some info on like "what size should I wear" "what socks would be optimum for running" "what shoes does he recommend for my running style". Gaston been extremely helpful with answering all my questions and kept an open conversation with his opinions and didn't seem bias towards a certain way of doing things. The manager / owner / employee Asian guy seemed helpful at first until he started swearing saying f__king this and fu__king that when I asked him questions about the shoes I was trying on. Customer service here is so great. Gaston was patient and knowledgeable. I went in looking for a pair of women's shoes, size 12. Gaston checked, and they didn't have any in stock, so I started looking at men's shoes. Gaston recommended a pair of New Balance shoes, and brought out 3 options for me to try, including 2 pairs from the clearance racks. They let me walk and jog around in the shoes, even recommending that I take a walk outside so I could try using the shoes on concrete. I ended up selecting one of the clearance pairs, which was on sale for $80 (originally $120). And fun tidbit: they have a bin full of clean socks you can use when trying on shoes, in case you don't bring your own :) Can't recommend this store enough, will only buy shoes from here from now on! read more

Where is a runner supposed to go to get some gear? The running room, of course! Gaston, he's very nice, helpful and informative about running, sneakers and other gear. They have gels, sneakers, socks, apparel, garmin watches, aftershocks, massage rollers and water bottle needs. He was very helpful and informative to me and another customer when I went to get my Garmin and another runner needed a new pair of running shoes. You can even try out the running shoes around the block to see how it feels on you. He was great! They have a sale section in the back near the fitting rooms on the right side of the store. Sometimes the running shoes are on sale on the sneaker boxes on the side of the store. Always use at least one full size higher than your normal shoe size because of the swelling and humidity when running long distances. They do require masks and the staff are wearing masks as well. They have a few hand sanitizer stations. The staff also helps you when trying on sneakers or garmin watches, so they can sanitize the ones you don't end up buying. There's usually not more than 5 to 10 people in the store at a time, so that helps with social distancing. I come here to get more gels for my races both in person and virtual. I got my garmin watch from here on sale to help track my virtual races because it's easier than carrying my cellphone in my hand while running. I currently have Skechers running sneakers at the moment but I would get any brand they have at this running store especially when they have sale around the Honolulu Marathon and holidays time. I do miss my in person races, I can't wait until they return but until then I will come here whenever I need some new gear or gels for my races. I still run with my disposable face mask on even though I'm fully vaccinated due to the Delta covid variant. It does make it slightly harder with the mask on but I'd rather be safe than have a fast race time. You can put your phone number to gain points from the things that you buy from the store. They're also a place that you can pick up your bibs and race shirts from various races around the island including the Great Aloha Run in training shirts. I would recommend coming here for your running and race needs! They are all really helpful and friendly and to help support local running shops. On to doing my virtual races, running, swimming and watching Team USA in the Olympics. I do like to cross train with running, hiking and swimming but I only feel comfortable swimming in the pool alone and running with my disposable mask covering my nose and mouth (even though I'm fully covid vaccinated) at the moment. read more

All the other reviewers are right. The owners son, the teenager, does not have good people skills. When I went in looking to BUY shoes, his advice was "well, it depends on the fit." I understand the need to try on various shoes, but after giving him all my needs and issues, the only thing he said was, "go up in size. One size up from your normal size. It doesn't matter what brand you get." Like what? I'm asking for your expertise and all you say is "go up a size"? I ended up buying an expensive pair of running shoes, which I had to return because it made my knee pain exponentially worse. If you're looking for expertise, the teenage son isn't it. You'd be better off reading articles online about different running shoes and going somewhere else to try them on or buy them online and return/keep. I wouldn't go back here again. We came here for a pair of walking/running shoes because the sole my husband's Ecco shoes fell apart on the flight to Honolulu. We ask the sales guy what he would recommend for something with good arch support. He said they are all the same. Every question we asked, he basically said they are all the same so we ended up having to try on a lot of different ones to find something my husband liked. While my husband was trying on the different shoes, I heard a different sales guy giving recommendations to a lady he was helping. I've been having really awful feet pain and I think that's the cause of my back/butt pain. I really thought it was something with my feet since it's always most sore at the end of the day when I've been walking all day in my shoes. As soon as I got there, someone came and assisted me. I told him my problem and he asked if it's always been sore or if it was just recently. I told him just recently. He said it was my shoes and that it was time to change my shoes. While he was in the back, another worker came up to talk about my feet issue. He was great. He explained that most likely my sore feet were originating from my tight calves. Tight calves=sore feet and tight hamstrings=sore back. Well, that just says it all, I need to stretch more. He was so helpful that he even told me some stretches that I could do to alleviate some of my pain. I got to try on three different pairs of shoes and it really was like magic when I put those things on. I do need a shoe replacement for sure. Felt like I was walking on a cloud when I slipped those shoes on. I couldn't feel my back pain either. Unfortunately, the ones they brought out for me were very bold in color so I decided not to get them. I did, however, put my name on the wait list for a different brand that they didn't have in stock at the time. Great business and great customer service. I hope to return here soon. read more

We heard amazing things and read great things on Yelp about this place but you have to experience it to really understand why they are so awesome. We were greeted immediately as we walked in. They had several customers that they were helping so the first person that was available helped us (took only a few minutes!). Gaston was the expert that assisted us. He walked us through an entire process one by one in choosing the perfect pair of running shoes based on our running form. Not only did he take time to explain all the different aspects of choosing the right shoes, he patiently waited as we tried on many pairs before we decided on which was the most comfortable. 6 out of 5 stars in customer service. They have a wide selection of running shoes and gear. It's all very reasonably priced as well because you're getting quality products. The layout of the store is pretty organized and space is used efficiently. It's nice that you can run in the store and outside around the store to test out the different shoes they recommend. Parking is abundant and free in their private lot right next to the store. Location is very convenient off of Kapahulu Avenue near Safeway. Overall, 5 out of 5 stars! I had a list of 10 shoes from google that I wanted to try. I knew the mall was going to let me down. I visited the Running Room earlier this week and I can't express how grateful I am to Gaston who helped me find a pair of shoes. My feet have been getting very sore after several hours of being on my feet and Gaston was so knowledgeable and patient. I was there for a couple of hours and he brought out about 10 pairs of shoes and through a process of elimination helped find the most comfortable and supportive shoe for me. He also helped me understand the proper fitting of a shoe and I came to realize that I was wearing too small a size and was wearing worn shoes that had lost its support.
