10/10 venue for a wedding! staff was a amazing! Bar staff (Heather and James specifically) were incredible! life of the party for sure!!

So my daughter got married at Running Deer last December. As my wife and I live in California, I was concerned about the weather and the location of the venue which frankly is a bit out of the way. But we arrived with our minds open and our expectations high. Upon entering the venue, I was immediately concerned at the stark furnishings and frankly cheap looking chairs and tables that covered the floor. The wedding, of course, went off without a hitch. The reception began with an open bar and some hors d'oeuvres. There was a raw bar. The clams oysters and shrimp were frankly lukewarm, and certainly not fresh. My wife became ill upon eating one of the oysters. Needless to say I was quite disappointed, but then it got worse. My wife is a vegetarian and as such I ordered a special vegetarian meal for her which they did not have, and knew nothing about. I was very specific about this and when we questioned the event manager, she was frankly quite rude. I forgot to add that before this happened, during the seating just before the wedding, my ex-wife, who is as hostile as can be, made a bit of a scene about sitting next to us. My wife and I, who live in Southern California are quite happy and laid back and could not have cared less where anybody sat. So after my ex-wife threw her little hissy fit out of our presence, the manager charged up to us as if to chastise a couple of school children. She snarled: "Now I don't want any trouble from anybody. Here's how it's going to go". Dumbfounded, my wife and I looked at each other and pretty much just laughed. We found her cartoonish approach to be hideous and her bad manners, not one bit amusing. For what we paid for this wedding the least she could've done was maintain some level of decorum and respect. It was if we were the troublesome junior high school couple and just got caught roaming the halls during study hall. But we laughed it off. However, things got really annoying and frankly made me very angry once dinner began. The plates were rushed to the table as if by an Indianapolis 500 Pit Crew. I mean there's a way to serve a plate. Reaching in, placing it down carefully with a smile, asking to be sure if this was what was ordered and wishing you a pleasant dining experience is always standard at a wedding; but no, the plates were flung on the table and I'm surprised that the food didn't land on the floor. We were rushed through dinner, and the server tried to remove my wife's plate no less than three (3!) times before she'd finished her meal. I had the fillet mignon, which was served less than hot, and overcooked. It resembled a hockey puck. It too, fell victim to the over ambitious servers who stopped by twice and tried to remove my plate before I finished. The desserts were of poor quality and not varied at all. Lastly, after a wedding, it usually serves a venue well to follow-up with the parents of the bride to not only express thanks for their business, but to inquire as to whether their expectations were met or not. Perhaps a comped dinner visit as a "thank you" (My wife and I received all of the above after our own wedding at Scotland Run, five years ago). We've received no follow-up, no "thank-you", or any post-event contact of any sort. Completely tacky. I would advise any couple in search of a wedding reception venue to simply save their time and bypass a visit to Running Deer. Poor quality food, rude staff and dreary atmosphere do not make for an enjoyable time. The quality of the event left us feeling ripped-off. read more

Would love to recommend this place but after inquiring about membership never received a call back. Disappointing to say the least. I don't care how nice a course is, when you can't even reply to a customer who's paying in excess of 4K to join, it's a pass for me. read more

I played here on a Tuesday afternoon right at 3pm when their Youth on Course rate starts. The staff in the clubhouse was very friendly and helpful. The course was in excellent shape especially for early November. read more

Course is immaculate, Dave was very friendly and they offered a military discount which I always appreciate. Greens are huge with some crazy slopes, I recommend getting a birds eye view of the course prior. Hidden bunkers, small ponds, etc will get you if you don't know they are there. Made it fun and challenging for sure. The gap from whites to blues was pretty significant and some par 4s are lengthy from the back. Overall, phenomenal course. Will definitely be back! read more

Running deer is a pretty interesting course that will test you tee to green then crush your spirits once you've gotten to the green. We've finally made it out to the deer after planning a couple trips through the summer. Unfortunately for us it's fall so the course isn't in pristine shape but it's better than most even still. Our $40 walking rate was reasonable and from the get go you're aware you're in for a challenge. The fairways are not clearly defined, how the rough is cut is kind of like a jig saw with very rarely a straight sight line on the left or right, in a couple holes the fairway flat out disappears and you're in rough grasses or as the case on 9, an enormous waste bunker, that bunker is like you're standing on the moon. An interesting feature but since it's firm sand it plays like a fairway. Bunkers this time around hadn't been raked in a while but it's out of season so I understand that. They are very playable though, easy to hit longer shots as well as delicate ones. I love bunkers that allow me to choose a shot rather than just dig it out. The greens at running deer is where the course shines. They are medium to large greens with an incredible amount of undulation. They were fast enough even though its fall that makes me wonder what they are like in summer. A few trips around and you'll have an idea where to play to for better scoring chances. There was almost nobody there while we were playing so I have no real reviews of staff other than the assistant that checked us in and he was certainly nice enough. Running deer is a solid track, having some local knowledge of the greens and the fairways that are cut off and disappear in a few places is vital. We definitely look forward to another trip to the deer! read more

Just attended an amazing wedding and reception at this beautiful location and the one thing I cannot say enough about is the staff!!! Seriously almost every wedding venue is beautiful, but this staff...they cared and were super sweet, wonderful and attentive. I would HIGHLY recommend this location. We've had such an Amazing experience at Running Deer with Miranda Duca, event coordinator. Miranda talked with me over the phone and she listened, actually listened to what we wanted. She emailed us all the information we needed with prices promptly. Every time I called with a question she answered. So easy to get hold of. Now this was awesome! We went on to set up a time to meet with her to discuss details. She had a very nice folder waiting for us with all the information in it. She again listened and was very pleasant and helpful. She gave us suggestions that we didn't even think about. She walked us around to show us the different rooms and so on. It was like talking to a long time friend. Running Deer is beautiful but it's people like Miranda that make it special. Thank you so much Miranda and Running Deer. read more

The pro shop guy made us feel so uncomfortable when we went to play golf. Wouldn't let us use carts and rushed a bunch of the group along. Based on the makeup of the group, it definitely seemed racially motivated. read more

This review is for their banquet facilities. We held a wedding there. The facility is very good. Plenty of space for the groomsmen and bridesmaids to prepare. Lots of parking. Went here for a wedding. Very elegant. Had a cocktail hour with cheese, fruit, and a macaroni and cheese bar. And open bar. It was amazing. Actually dinner was buffet-- pork carving station, potatoes, lasagna, salad, etc. All was pretty fine. Why the one star? At least half of the guest at the wedding got sick the around 5pm the next day. No thanks. read more

I was very excited to bring my dad out for his Birthday to golf, let alone a Jawz course. Our tee time was 910AM and the course was VERY SLOW THAT DAY(meaning there was plenty of room for patience). We had a first time golfer with us and my father only gets out every so often so we were at a little slower of a pace then we would like, but it's not because we were screwing around. At about the 7th hole, a fat man wearing blue sweat suit approached (maybe the "golf pro")us and told us that we were not up to the proper speed of the course. I sarcastically told him that we were sorry and that we would start golfing better. We were out to have a nice day and enjoy ourselves at "NJ Premier Golf Course" but we didn't. We felt like we had to rush around and were being watched. The grounds were nice and The Pub was nice after our round and the bartender was great. it was a saving grace from the shit day we had out there. read more

My husband and I played on a fabulous Sunday afternoon. The course is in excellent shape considering the winter we had - very impressed. Little buggy - bring your bug spray but I think this is because of all the moisture under leafs. The snack bar after the 9th hole is really nice - the large beef hot dogs were a welcome lunch and the gentleman running it was a sweetheart. Now, here is the real problem. The club house is amazing, wonderful - as it is a private club. The problem? the little "out house" for the bathroom behind the snack bar - they should be ashamed of themselves - disgusting, really gross!!! Very confusing to me - Yuck. Besides that, I really enjoy playing there - a somewhat new golfer - I scored a 102 - but had a great (for me)47 on the front nine!!! Yippee!! read more

I had occasion to attend a Mother's Day tea sponsored Ladies' Auxiliary of South Jersey Healthcare two years ago. It was an altogether lovely experience. I can not comment on the golf course itself, but the grounds and clubhouse we clean and well maintained. Running Deer is one of the few clubs in the area that is doing well, despite the economic downturn. I thought the staff were down-to-earth and friendly although the service is what cost them a star. The food was REALLY good and if I had occasion to plan a formal or semi-formal event, Running Deer would be high on my short list. read more

Booked a tee time on line and played on 8-8-18. Every green has been aerated and many fairways. Nowhere on the website was any mention of the aeration. I have played this course before and looked forward to coming back, but it is just not fun when some fairways and all greens are unplayable. I would of expected to be warned before booking. I will never be back! read more

I was so excited to have my daughter's baby shower in the Tee Room, everything was so nice and the food was good until some of my guests found a live roach crawling on the cake table after we had already had some of the cake. I don't think I could ever go back to this place. read more

Had the pleasure to play golf here and let me tell you a challenging course - so yes bring your A game. The fairways in perfect shape the rough is demanding and the sand traps very well kept. . The greens are large and manicured to roll true and pose a real test of your talent. At the turn snack shack - get the Hot Dog -WOW! The young man is polite as they come. And finally, to any true golfer, the 19th hole, the food is very good ( stuffed hots - get them) the ambiance is relaxing making you forget that 3 putt which you faced a few times during your round and the staff is gregarious making the whole day enjoyable. The golf course is in excellent condition. The greens were running at about a 9 and the tee boxes and fairways were lush. The staff was very helpful in the pro shop and the general manager was very accommodating to be sure our golf experience was the best it could be. I would highly recommend this course. One of the best courses I have played. Went to the pub and had a great sandwich and drink. Janet was a fantastic bartender. The chef came out and introduced himself to everyone at the bar and stated to everyone if he could be of service to just ask. All around a great golf experience that I would highly recommend to everyone. Do not miss playing this fabulous course and having a great meal and drink at the 19th hole. read more

My daughter recently had her wedding here. Everything was just perfect. Olivia did a fantastic job making sure all our plans came together. We had a buffet which includes so much food I couldn't eat everything. The cocktail hour was moved from outside to inside due to the heat but even that went well. The decor was done according to my daughter and they completed it down to the last detail. They even add little touches that made the look complete. When we walked it just took my breath away. Mary Jo did an incredible job overlooking the event. always being there to make sure things ran smoothly. We used DFX for the lighting who added the light splash on the ceiling and the tiffany blue for the room. Absolutely stunning! Everything was more than what we could have wanted. The food was just delicious. I talked to everyone and they said that was the best wedding they had ever been to. Days later we are still talking about it! The bad part: it's over. I wish it could have gone on forever. Thank you Running Deer for making my daughter's wedding a dream! read more

I have been a member here for 11 years. Ever since the Jaworski group took over there have been many improvements. The staff in the pro shop are amazing, but the superintendent of the golf course is a fraud. Yes he knows how to grow grass but has no management skills. He has non-golfers set up the course these people put the pins on slops and humps which makes it impossible to score there. The traps haven't been maintained at all this summer. When you complain to him he makes it a point to make the course even harder. read more

One of the best course I've ever played. Great layout challenging to all level of players. I played poorly (105) but I did not hit many good shots. I know I can shoot in low 90's next time. Fairways & greens in excellent condition. A lot of traps in fairways. Undulation on greens (medium/fast) will test even the best putters. The clubhouse & staff are excellent. read more

I'll start with the positive: The chef and waiting staff were amazing! The food was done to perfection; he considered concerns we had at our food tasting and my wife's lactose intolerance. So why the poor review: First, they asked for how to set up special tables that had, for example, pictures of my wife and I growing up. Considering their importance, I provided how I'd like the tables set up with diagrams to avoid any confusion. Despite this effort, no tables were set up how we specified displaying a lack of communication between the coordinator, Heather, and those actually setting up tables. Second, there were certain details they failed to mention or discuss with us about the day of the wedding. They failed to mention that if guest showed up a few minutes early, they would be diverted from the cocktail area to a side pub area; moreover, they failed to mention that guest in this pub wouldn't have access to our pre-paid opened bar forcing them to pay for drinks. They then wouldn't let my mother-in-law in to the cocktail hour despite the fact that she was paying for the event. Similar issues occurred throughout the night; they failed to inform us that the coat check would be moved to a different location which made many guest miss our wedding favors on their way out. Also, despite being told that an employee would be handing out our favors, there was no one present for most, if not all, of the night leaving many guest empty handed. The most important issue was their customer service. My mother-in-law attempted to contact them about a lost item and to discuss the mentioned issues after the event. At this point, Heather, the main contact in signing us and preparing for the day, simply never responded. Three months after the wedding, when our wedding photos were published in a magazine, Heather chose to contact us after seeing that we warned brides about discussing every detail with their vendor. This was disappointing as it seemed that our coordinator didn't care for us or customer service, but was only concerned with avoiding negative press. What exacerbated this situation was their response to my wife who attempted to explain her reasoning. Instead of portraying any type of concern for unsatisfying services or showing any appreciation for bringing their pitfalls to their attention, Heather responded by implying it was our fault for not asking for these details. She stated such things as "we always use the bigger closet when it snows" and "we would have gladly started a tab (in the pub area for early guest) if we knew you wanted one". This response missed the fact that we couldn't ask for something to be done a certain way when we were not included in the decision making process. If we're never informed that guest would be put in the pub, even when they show up five minutes early, then why would we ever ask for a tab to be made? The final disappointment was that when I emailed them to clarify this point, they still never expressed any remorse. Instead, Heather chose to essentially ignore my email. Ultimately, the food, environment, and layout is amazing, but once they receive your money, the customer service dissipates and they don't care about you, your concerns, or your opinions as a customer. I feel this is important because, for us, the issues were minor but for others a lack of customer service on the part of their wedding coordinators, in particular, could result in significant problems on a very important day. read more
