So fun! I love this little gem of a stop on the way to Boscobel. Fresh popcorn is always a-poppin', and you can sample like 10 different flavors! I have a sweet tooth, so I like the peanut butter and/or chocolate popcorn blends. I also like to purchase a half and half mix of cheese and plain or caramel too. Lots to look at here. Among the other goodies you can check out are homemade jams, kitchen items, jewelry, household decor, etc. It's a quaint stop (with a bathroom too!), and I love popping (hit that cymbal for me, thank you!) in here! read more

Still love the popcorn, but I can buy it online and save driving many miles. On a recent visit, the gift shop looked half empty. Two aisles of fun gift cards was reduced to a little stand of expensive cards--many of the cooking items were also gone..very few soft goods--scarves, t-shirts, etc.--and no more SpringHouse candles. Frankly, some of the merchandise from earlier years was a bit tacky -like poo spray-- and the store could be a bit crowded to navigate--but there was always something for everyone and it was fun to browse and pick up gifts. I finally asked the clerks if the gift store was closing or something since it looked practically gutted--I could tell they had been asked this many times--they were very diplomatic and finally suggested I write the manager on FB. Frankly, I'm not big on employees having to "prove" feedback to their manager--or being given an assignment as a customer when I have already gone out of my way to provide feedback on the spot--but--hopefully it will be worth it to respond here on YELP. read more

When you drive around aimlessly like I so often do, you end up at interesting places like RR 1 Popcorn, which is not on the way to or from anywhere. A huge food and gift shop with popped and unpopped popcorn in servings from a couple ounces to 25 pounds and myriad of flavors, but local gifts and kitchen gadgets and decor. Spotless restrooms, chairs on the porch to set a spell and watch the traffic go by. Fun, tasty, but a little spendy. Online shop as well! read more

I love popcorn. I love chocolate. So it was only a matter of time before someone learned how to compliment both ingredients and create a truly wonderful and decadent product. The result is Rural Route 1 popcorn, and their motto is "The Popcorn for Chocolate Lovers". I discovered their products while visiting the Winter Fancy Food Show last month. Their booth staff was very friendly and offered me several samples of their products. Then just to make sure I became truly addicted to their product, like good dru...oops, I meant candy dealers, they scanned my ID badge and sent me more samples a few weeks after the show. Good candy makers like the company that I work for know that the best way to hook in new products is through sampling. So I thank the Gods Above for giving me the opportunity to sample Rural Route 1's truly delectable popcorn. I had the honor of sampling 3 of their gourmet popcorns. C.C. Winkle is a pairing of caramel corn, cashews and dipped in a creamy fudge. K'Nuckle is a blend of popcorn, almonds and white fudge. Okay, so technically white chocolate isn't chocolate, but when done right its still delicious. Then there's my favorite to die for product: RC Snakle, a spellbinding concoction of sweetened popcorn, cranberries and covered in white fudge. My mouth just salivates as I write down the ingredients. If you love kettle corn or caramel corn or candied corn, then you will love Rural Route 1's Popcorn offerings. The only problem is finding out where they are sold in your area. Don't let that stop you because you can also order their products online. When I'm craving popcorn, my taste buds will be clamoring for Rural Route 1. 7/4 I'm so glad they were open today! I didn't realize it was 90 miles one way to get there until we were well on our way. The young ladies in the store were super friendly. I got a couple of bags of Crazy Corn (butter, caramel, and cheese mix) popcorn. I was a little disappointed because I wanted more caramel corn, but overall it was delicious and made a great snack the next night at the drive-in. I love their toy section. They have award-winning games that I've never seen before. Last year we got a puzzle set to help our son with reading and the alphabet and this year we got a fraction game - Make A Pie, I think it's called. I love games that push some education while having fun. This store was a great find and I love the drive out here. We passed by multiple Amish wagons and people on horseback. This is a really beautiful part of Wisconsin. read more

This is a mandatory stop on our road trips to Iowa to visit family! We have been coming here for years, and there is always something for everyone. I have even found some amazing gifts in their large gift shop. This year when we stopped in on, we were given a sample of their new microwave popcorn, sea salt and cracked pepper, and at first was going to decline...I'm not a big microwave popcorn...but took it on a whim. Passing by on the way back from Fennimore, I felt a burning need for some high-calorie popcorn. We got there just minutes before closing time, but the place was hopping (I rationalized that one more wouldn't hurt). They had all sorts of stuff in there of the touristy persuasion (costume jewelry, keychains, just lots and lots of different things). I grabbed a prefilled and priced bag of popcorn (can't remember the name, but it was plain, caramel, cheese, and a few cherry all mixed together) and then got a tub from the lady up front (they have a bunch of different flavors, you can get different quantities) of SS Dunkle (decadent chocolate-covered popcorn). It seemed expensive, but the stuff is so rich that it takes a while to eat, even for a sworn sugar-holic like me. As is often the case, the older ladies were very friendly but the younger people were much less so (I was a kid once, I get it). Next time I cruise by I can bring my plastic tub and get a refill for a slight discount! Also, we got back into the car about one minute before closing time, and there were people still walking in. Stopped in on a roadtrip to stretch. Ended up spending an hour browsing in their shop. Gifts so diverse- jewelry, art, garden items, kitchen supplies and of course POPCORN! I believe my Christmas shopping could have been done in this stop, only limit by my time schedule. Of course I had to purchase some popcorn and of course it was amazing! I live in Arizona and order their white popcorn kernels in bulk. My grandfather got our family hooked on Rural Route 1 back in the 80's and we have been eating it ever since. Lots of memories having air popped popcorn as a kid thanks to Rural Route 1. read more

We were passing by on Route 18 on the way to Iowa, saw Rural Route 1 popcorn and decided to stop in on the way back home to Illinois. What a great find! Many great flavors of popcorn (cherry cheesecake is my favorite) at a reasonable cost. Of course they have regular popcorn too which is awesome. There is a store full of unique items for the home and kitchen too. The staff was very friendly and patient while I sampled many flavors of popcorn. We will be stopping here often on our future trips to Iowa. read more

I ordered a significant number of popcorn buckets as Christmas gifts and found the order to my son was delivered but was not received by my son so we assumed it was stolen from the porch following delivery. Rural Route One sent a replacement, at no cost, that was received. That is customer service of the highest order. We stop in on every trip we take to Iowa to drop our daughter off at school. If you like sweet, they have it (caramel corn). If you like sweet, salty and chocolaty, they have it (the SS Dunkle). Spicy and cheesy, yep the jalapeno cheddar or just plain cheese popcorn if you like it on the cooler side. You can sample them all before you buy them which is great because I thought that cinnamon popcorn sounded good. I tried it and found out it was not to my taste BUT it might be to yours.
