As we chatted with the Brew Master and shared Rescue Dog stories, he suggested the Steam Beer and Uno Mas to us. Our beers arrived and so did a fresh bowl of water for Tate. While Tate greeted everyone, we enjoyed a HUGE pretzel and crab dip appetizer. It was a great evening... friendly staff and patrons, clean, good food... and a new favorite beer. Jenn W

The Fried Brussels sprouts with balsamic maple glaze are my other favorite appetizer. Best entree is the Burger Bowl, a salad topped with a cheeseburger and French fries. Choose thousand island dressing for the 'Big Mac' flavor. Yum! Rotating house brews are on tap as well as a few staples. We really enjoy Copper, an alt bier and Requiem, the steam beer. They also make some creative seasonal cocktails. The place is handicap accessible, small sidewalk ramp and no steps. For a wheelchair, it's tight getting in and out, as there are two single doors within 6 feet. The servers are friendly and helpful, letting us sample beers and making recommendations. When guests visit, we take them to Copperz and they're always pleasantly surprised.

Backwoods Brothers is not far from 81 corridor in PA and worth the couple minute detour. Simple, nothing fancy on a residential corner. Place could use a scrub, but I came for the BBQ. Upon shaking the dust off my boots I was met by Beverly, who was sweet as pie and very helpful. A warm welcome really goes a long way to making ANY diners experience better. And flavorful food that exceeds your expectations all the better! I got the brisket sandwich and substituted beans (for the chips) and added collard greens. The sandwich was generous portion and the meat was lean and not too fatty and the bun had a little toasty crisp (nice touch!). Three homemade sauces to choose from: Original (zingy), Pepper (tangy) and Honey mix (too sweet for my taste). The collards were the star of the meal. Al dente to the bite (not limp overdone) and not swimming in liquid. The beans were very good. All in all a great detour for any hungry traveler or local! Thanks Bev for making me feel at home. UPDATE: after using the bathroom before leaving, I agree with another reviewer here: this place needs some serious cleaning attention. The owner should shut it down for a day and address the excess grime. Still doesn't change my opinion that it's a nice place to patronize.

Do yourself a favor and stop buying milk from Walmart, and head to Grube's for the best gallon of chocolate milk you will ever drink in your life. Grube's Dairy Farm operates out of Mohrsville, and recently began operating a small country store a couple of years ago, right across the street from the former, water-damaged borough hall in Shoemakersville. Make your way down the little alley next to the white house with the "Grube's Dairy" cow sign, and the parking lot is on your right. Grube's Dairy is the country store that Shoemakersville needs, since the departure of Boyer's left a void in which Shoemakersville residents now had to travel to Hamburg to go grocery shopping. Enter Grube's, the little store that could: offering their incredibly delicious line of LOCAL (I repeat: local) dairy products, delicious PA Dutch Nelson's Ice Cream (Nix Besser!), locally made "Pure Wild Tea", miscellaneous grocery items, and new for 2015: a full deli! If I haven't convinced you yet, I strongly urge anybody who prefers local, quality products and small businesses to check out Grube's Dairy.

They even have ice cream they sell as well as a little deli for meat and such. Everything is reasonably priced and tastes very good. I really like the tea they sell and their chocolate milk the best. They also have soft ice cream, water ice and a nice size hot menu of burgers, hot dogs and appetizers as well as frozen treats for sale in the freezer. All food is counter service, there are 5 booths and 2 tables in the main room and 3 booths in a side room for seating. House made is the key here! I have been here multiple times and have never had a flavor I didn't like! Today I asked if I could customize a banana split and they said yes! You can get any 3 flavors of ice cream, I choose the Double Peanut Butter and cookies for all 3 scoops with Peanut butter sauce over all and the banana slices, whipped cream and cherries like a normal sundae. This turned out to be a great choice. My wife opted for the traditional Banana split! Candy's has been known to get busy as it is a small place, but they usually have plenty of help behind the counter to take care of the line. They have a nice sized parking lot off to the side of the building and a back entrance on East Bellevue Ave. If you are looking for good homemade ice cream and like options, this is the place for you!
