Giving 4 stars because the spa pool was only open from 3-8 when it was supposed to be open from 10-8 every day we camped. Once it opened, it was packed and not always enjoyable. Also, this lake could really use a good skimmer; the bottom was full of leaves and muck, unlike the Jellystone Campground at Mammoth Cave. We loved the shows and all the camp decorations for the Hulu event. We will be back, I just hope the pool will be open more hours.

We measure the mattress the last day- it's a FULL, not a QUEEN as advertised. I email them after to tell them I'm upset- never hear a word back. Now we were asked to meet family there again this summer and hoping they updated their beds to the size they claim so I email to ask- they email me back to say the beds are same and they are "industry size". They are FULLS and we have video and pics to prove it. I have been manipulated and should have demanded atleast a partial refund after our visit (having read up on the law and what it means them lying about size of beds). The beds in the cabins aren't queens like advertised. Beware! And contact me if you noticed this too.

They have all different type of site options from full hookup with concrete pads to electric only grassy sites to camp sites with horse friendly tie areas. I would guess there are over 500 sites here. Plus they have very nice cabins to rent. There is a marina for those that want to dock seasonally and a boat ramp for those that just want to put their boat in for the day. No extra cost if camping for the weekend. You can also kayak or rent kayaks and pontoons from the marina part. The welcome center has a naturalist area with educational animals and other interactive exhibits where kids can see and ask questions. During summer months they also have all kinds of activities for families from naturalist led hikes, movie nights, and educational programs. The beach area is a good size for everyone to play. You can pay extra to go on the wibits- water course. They have food vendors and bathrooms close by. Most of the facilities like shower houses and playgrounds are newer and well maintained. Since it is such a large campground I highly recommend bringing bikes or a golf cart (you will want to call ahead to make sure yours is inspected for operation in the park). Also lots of ranger patrols for safety but still freedom to enjoy your weekend.

And there is an admission charge if you can believe it... The chalet on the hill has a small store in it but since it's on state land there are no potent potables so again...Plan accordingly...Pack everything you want BEFORE you head out because there isn't much in that neck of the woods either...There is a Marathon that does have needs but not a great selection so...Plan accordingly... There is a beach that consists of "sand" that is what is washed up from the bottom and is pretty much just gravel mixed with dirt... Thankfully all we did at the beach was stage it for a gathering point off the boat.... I'd go back cause the lake is plenty big and not overly crowded...So long as we had no reason to get off the boat... But be careful....There is water patrol so use your head here folks....

This was our 5th stay in 3 years. It appears to have changed ownership a couple of times, but…read morethings still seem to be operating pretty well with a few changes recently. They have simplified the entrance/exit making it easier to come and go. The pool was in great shape this time. But the splash pad is not turned on yet. I did see where they added new jump pads, one normal size and one huge! This is right next to a new zip line and the kids seem to love both. I decided to splurge on one of their deluxe patio sites since this was my birthday/Father's day present. We got a very nice site back in the BOONDOCKS area which is a nice secluded area not too far from everything else. It does have a nice shower that is ADA compliant, but my only suggestion would be to put a handicap sign up so more abled people can use the others first. Since I was splurging this week, we did take advantage of firewood and ice delivery and they were quick and courteous. I did have an opportunity to reach out for help with their management when an unexpected storm came through. We have a pop up that once you setup and put out the awning, its difficult to get down in a hurry. I used their text number and requested a small step ladder to help me get the awning down and they quickly responded. That was a big help. All in all it was a great stay. My only real issue is with reserving a deluxe patio site, some have propane grills and others have charcoal grills and I don't think you know till you get there, so we had to run our for charcoal.

The wagon ride was cancelled on Saturday with out a notice. We walked on the trail with the kids but it smelled terrible like sewage and there are no trail markers so we had to back track a few times. One trail took us to a house. The sun catcher paint event was not well put together. They were gone in 1 minute and not enough paint for everyone. Walked to feed the animals and didn't realize it cost a quarter to feed. Absolutely no cash on us. And we lost a headlamp we bought in the store, went to buy another the morning we left and told we were not allowed in the store and it was closed for an emergency. For the amount of money we paid just expected a little more being the holiday weekend. Don't see us coming back. Likes: bathrooms were nice, kids liked playground and jump pad, the paddle boat and life jackets, patio furniture at our site.

Nice campground overall but with a few issues depending on your needs…read more Pros- Relatively level spaces Nice walking trails and plenty of area to explore. Plenty to keep kids busy. The park has not seen new gravel in a really long time maybe years. You can see in the pictures…read morethat most of the park is muddy. The steep slope up the hill has a dangerous drop off that people are having to pull their expensive RVS up this winding path. This shows no respect for the campers. If getting mud all over your camper and truck along with having to track mud into the camper because the sites are dirt covered not gravel covered (see pictures), is not bad enough: The owners of the camp had their wedding party inside the camp that ran until 2 in the morning with loud thumping music. They didn't even respect their paying residents enough to follow their own rules of - and I quote from their brochure: QUIET TIME is 10:30 pm - 8 am. Remember your fellow campers may be sleeping. NO LOUD STEREOS AT ANYTIME. They even used all caps. It doesn't say "ANYTIME except when we/the owners have a reason to party". Rules for thee but not for ME is what I'm hearing. As if that wasn't bad enough, my husband went to the office yesterday to buy some propane. He was told at the office that someone would be over shortly to fill his tanks. He waited for half an hour. Finally, an employee happened to pass by (he hadn't even been sent by the office). He cordially filled the tanks. When my husband went back to the office to ask why they kept him waiting. He was told they were busy planning a party. Turns out it was the owner's party. Another example of not respecting the paying customer. One more thing: there are limbs from bushes and trees that need to be trimmed so that they don't scratch the RVs as they are pulling through. I DO NOT recommend this campground. When we come back through this area in September, we will be staying at the camp in Shelby. Is anyone else tired of crappy customer service these days?

The online…read morereservation site has all the details on lot size, electricity info, distance to showers, etc. However, it's limited in showing different dates, which is frustrating. Anyway, the check-in time is 3pm and check-out is 1pm. We paid fifty-three dollars per night for two adults and one dog, with a six fifty reservation charge. Check-in was easy, and the attendant was helpful; you just drive up to the office, check-in and go on your way. The layout is similar to a subdivision with cul-de-sacs and each spot having its own little yard, making it feel somewhat like camping in the woods. Our neighbors were quiet and most vehicles drove slowly. Everyone we met was pleasant and friendly. The camp itself was clean and easy to hook up. Bathrooms and showers were clean and there was plenty of toilet paper. Large trash bins were available along with gray water stations. The only thing I'd suggest is for the site identifiers to be repainted, as several had faded over time. We visited the beach, but didn't go swimming, given the temperature. The pond is catch and release and seemed maintained and not stagnant. The budget limitations need to be considered before passing judgment. We used bug spray every day and that seemed to help keep the bugs away. The site we booked had a level surface and plenty of room to back in. The water and electrical were easily accessible and worked fine. A lot of campers used an inline water filter. The water quality report is on the park website for anyone interested. The grass was well trodden, making a camp rug a must-have. There was also a fire pit with a grill attached, but we didn't use it to cook. Also, at the time, there wasn't a burn ban. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and we'll definitely return. It was fun to walk down the aisles and see all the setups and decorations and note future camp site options. How many campers are long-timers, it's hard to tell. But we were pleased and our dog loved exploring on our walks.
