I found this place while in Nashville during the CMA festivities. It was too busy for my taste. Luckily I called ahead and they helped me fairly quickly. I feel the place is heavily catered to women. Many of the hats are very decorative with banding, feathers, burn marks, and branding. I was looking for a more authentic, gritty place. I was hoping to find the kind of hat makers that have been in the trace for 30+ years. The young, almost all-female staff is very friendly and helpful, but it had a very touristy feel to me. I did end up buying a hat. If you get one of the nicer ones with lots of add-ons, be prepared to spend over $600. read more

I am so happy I found Rustler Hat. I called in and told them I had a hat already, but I needed to update the accessories. They were more than happy to accommodate my needs. Was in Nashville for a girls trip and we knew we had to come here. We didn't make reservations but walked up on a Saturday they were super busy. The girl upfront was very nice put us on the waitlist but warned us there maybe a chance we wouldn't get in. We got lucky and got in!!! This experience was so fun to do. Our girl Karina with the long brown hair had just been working there 3 weeks but was amazing. She gave us suggestions and helped us customize our hats. Came here during CMA Fest 2023 as a walk-in not expecting them to have room or time for me with how busy it was. Thankfully they had two no shows and I was able to get a spot. I had wanted to do this since 8 months before when our concert tickets and flights were originally booked so this was an exciting day for me. I was paired up with Ca'Layci (introduced as Lay) who helped me design my hat. She was attentive and kind, while providing ideas and helping guide my choices. She was never overly pushy and let me decide what was best for me while still offering cute and creative ideas. Through the process we chatted about work and life as I watched her bring my ideas to fruition for my hat. She was extremely pleasant and funny and having her help me added to the experience of designing my very own hat. I'm from California and not sure when I will make it back but when I do I will be sure to request her!! Thank you Ca'Layci!! PS- came back to help my cousin design her own the next day and the experience was not the same without Ca'Layci around to help. She is a gem and I'm so glad I ended up with her. read more

One of the best custom accessories /clothing experiences I have had. I came early afternoon, I was able to walk-in and make a reservation. They let me know 45-1hr. It took 15 mins longer than the expected time which was no big deal. I received a text letting me know they were running a bit behind. I also called the shop as well and they picked up right away. The process was pretty fast and fun! They have threads, chains, beads, feathers & ect displayed. So it was easy to choose. Ray was awesome! Very patient. And gave great suggestions. He asked me to double check before gluing anything permanently on the hat. read more

Cannot recommend enough! Came for my 21st birthday to customize a hat and it was so fun. Skylar was awesome, so helpful, and fun! The hats are a little pricier than I was expecting compared to what their website says, but it was so worth it and this hat will last forever! I definitely recommend making a reservation because the wait was long if you didn't make one! read more

SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. I came into this store and had a custom hat made and was not told that it was 100% wool. It was called a "felt hat". Soon after my $232 purchase my hands, neck, eyes and forehead started swelling and getting hives. I contacted the manager on duty Alex and she was supposed to get back to me but never followed through. Later I called back and she was gone so Rachel the assistant manager called me and I explained the situation and that I had to urgently have a prescription called in as well as rush home for benadryl and access to an epi pen the store said there was nothing that they could do for me despite the fact that they didn't disclose what material the hat was made of. this could have been MUCH WORSE if it happened to a child as it was a childrens hat. read more

Loved loved loved. Gracie was our hat guru for the time being there and she was super friendly, made it a great time as well. She took her time and also had great recommendations when we were stuck trying to decide how we wanted to accessorize our hats. Skip it and go to hatwrks.... They have the same stuff for 1/2 the price. Overall fine experience, was really glad they were able to accommodate us earlier than our scheduled appointment. It was a bit of a rushed process for the amount of money you're spending on a hat ($300.00 for mine) What bothered me is the sizing. First, they didn't have the size in stock for my boyfriend so he was unable to get a hat. My biggest issue was their "sizing" basically the woman set the hat on my head, said it looked good, and sent me over to her going on the design. They fail to tell you once they shape the hat it will actually fit a bit looser on your head. So much so that when I walked out the store it blew off my head in the wind...please disclose to your customers before the process is done. Cowboy/cowgirl style hats fit different than any other kind of hat, this was my first one and that was really frustrating. Thank goodness for Harwrks..we went over to get the hats my buy friend wanted, great business, friendly employees, they even put some stuff in my hat to help get it down to my size so it doesn't slip off my head. But I wasn't thrilled to have to take it to another location and spend additional money just to get my $300.00 hat the size I needed. PS- they forgot to take off the $75.00 deposit from the appointment and I had to remind them. read more

This is a crap shoot!!! You are required to pay if you make an appointment however the people walking in are treated more importantly than those with appointments... I would recommend walking in saves you time and a monetary obligation and you will get the best service!! We were treated like we knew how to do everything and that we would need no help. Luckily a girl stepped in and helped us and we left we a hat but I won't return. I'm not even sure our $75 deposit was applied to our purchase. Finally writing this review after going back and reading other reviews. Had been wanting to go to Rustler for quite some time. Knew going in it would be expensive. The experience was what I was looking for with my daughter, so I didn't mind too much. However.. it's not really an experience unless you have good people making your hats, people with personality. Ours, not so much. The hats are very well made. Though not a tremendous amount of selection with ribbon in particular.. width, style. That was disappointing. Felt rushed in the sense there was really no dialogue or suggestions in the hat makers .. which made for quick decisions with a wing and a prayer for a very expensive hat, even though we did go in with an idea. We had made an appointment .. and had to put money down to secure our time . I didn't realize until later that when I paid they did not credit me I believe the $75.00 I had already paid. BE AWARE! As I've read these reviews this is a common theme. They know what they are doing. Two hats $2100. Plus tip... which automatically suggests 20- 25%. Hefty tip for a small amount of time of not a whole lot of anything really. Custom tip can feel a bit awkward as well with them standing in front of you. Overall we liked our hats .. and I hate to be that person but it's hugely overrated and I believe there are just better places to go for the experience of making your own hat 100%. read more

I am an out of towner, who has had this appointment scheduled for months. At first I had doubts I wouldn't find my dream hat, but then an AMAZING employee Ca'Layci reassured me that we would find exactly what I was wanting. Her patience and knowledge was outstanding, made the experience of getting a custom hat wonderful. She had amazing ideas and so did the rest of the staff, they are so personable and kind. I definitely will be recommending my hometown friends and family to get a Rustler Co. Hat and definitely will be back the next time I am in town.
