So far from what seen while walking through part of the school and some classrooms, it was clean, had engaging and educational decor, and definitely seems like a place I would consider enrolling my child from what I've experienced if I were to go the route of public school (due to her age I'm currently homeschooling).

The class was organized, communicative, and I felt so at ease knowing my baby was in their hands. Now he is in the Ducklings with Ms Alyssa and I can't say enough positive things about her and her teaching style. My son has learned so much going to this school even though he has only just turned two, he is counting past 10, reading letters, coming home with new learnings every day. We are excited to continue to watch him grow and develop at Shenker.

They truly care for the babies like they are their own! I have referred multiple families here to Shenker including my own family members! I can't thank the ladies in the infant room enough! My daughter is ahead of all of her milestones, walking by 1, and is doing great in the next class. The ladies put so much love and care into engaging the babies and helping them learn and develop. Early intervention is highly important for help with children with special needs so they can succeed later in life. This school is not up to the task to discovering those needs and assisting your child. Right now 1 out of 56 children are autistic. That's not counting any of the other children with additional needs. My daughter did not want to integrate with the preschool classroom. They thought it was purely a behavioral problem. We did everything they asked. She was "super smart" (their words) so they wanted to keep her, but she couldn't handle being with the group. Though she was still listening/learning from afar (again their words) They tried to physically force her resulting in major meltdowns. They ended up kicking her out. They made me feel like a failure of a parent and my child wasn't exactly excited to experience school again after that. With the assistance of CCSD and her doctor she was diagnosed with high functioning autism. She's doing great in a general education classroom and still super smart. My point is pick a school that will help your child no matter what the circumstances. This school isn't going to do that.

I love the 4 days a week, uniforms, recess length is great and the school/staff overall is great. Greta is awesome. She was so welcoming when I emailed her and she helped me get my son enrolled. We would see Norman regularly during pick-up and he has an amazing memory. He would greet us by name whenever he saw us. My son's teacher Ms. J was also pretty cool. I know she probably got tired of my concerns, but she put up with me and handled them :) thanks Ms. J. The concerns that had to be addressed were bullying, body shaming and exposure to pornography . My son - a kindergartener at the time - went through an initiation type of incident with a group of kids, he was body shamed at lunch time for being skinny repeatedly and there was a teacher, Mr. Scottch, who kept turning of the internet safety. My son's friend told him to google something and my son came home explaining that he saw adults doing weird things. I'm not okay with the things that happened to him and what he saw but we have to move on with life. I will be fair as well, Ms. J addressed all of my concerns. They talked to the students who were bullying and their parents. I found out at back to school night that 1 student left the school, the other was not going to be in his class and the third one became friends with my son toward the end of the school year. They were even friendly with each other at back to school night. The teacher who was turning of the internet safety is gone and there is a new program to help kids safe while they use the internet (I hope it works for their sake). The teacher of the student who was body shaming my son talked to him so that was that. I will say the teachers here will back up your child if you express your concerns to them. Back to school night for the (2026-2027) school year was kind of cool but kind of messy. The cafeteria was open to families and students grade 1-6th. It was nice to see Greta and Norman. Some of the staff that recognized my son and my son's previous classmates greeted him so that was nice too. The downside was that it was crowded, hot and I could not hear a single word the Principal said during his speech. It was also cool seeing the tortoise come out to bath in his water bowl and then go back to him habitat. During back to school night we met who would have been my son's 1st grade teacher Ms. Santos. She was very kind, addressed my concerns about my son sitting near the boy who was his bully but is now a friend because I don't want them to disrupt each other, and she answered my questions. I asked her how much screen time the kids would have and she said 30 minutes on iReady. I use to work at Elaine Wynn Elementary as a tutor with One on One Learning. I've seen iReady and I feel that the program is a waste of time and resources. I expressed that I would like to opt my son out of using iReady and do analog work instead. Ms. Santos said it would be difficult to do that as the school is very data driven. So I emailed the Dr. Feinstein and told him I would like other options outside of iReady for my son. I never heard back from him. Once I told Ms. Santos this she then informed me that my son would also be using Tech Design and Epic and would be assigned a laptop that he would also use for Spanish projects. Here's the thing, there is so much evidence out, including MRI scans, that show that screen time is terrible for kids under 8. "But it's educational" you say? Here is a direct quote, "Recent studies using MRI scans suggest that higher daily screen time in young children is associated with lower structural integrity and development of white matter in the brain, particularly in tracts supporting language, literacy, and executive functions." Google that and tell me you still support this as a parent and an educator? Nevada is the 5th largest school district in the nation. LA is the 2nd largest and they have already banned screen use up to 2nd grade. We should not be allowing children to be experiments. These kids are 6/7 years old! They need to be reading, writing, playing, singing, moving, practicing verbally and with manipulatives. "But it's only an hour or so of screen time a day" you say? The results show that ANY screen time is not helping students. When Ms. Santos said that VVA is a data driven school I filled out my Notice of Intent to homeschool and emailed VVA with my son's withdrawal. I had high hopes that this school wouldn't become what other schools are becoming and pretend that screen time is preparing students for the future. There's a reason why Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs would not allow their kids to use screens/tech. It was a tough decision but we decided not to move forward with VVA this year. I hope they ban screens soon for the younger grades. That's would be a great start.

My daughter is now in her second year at VVA, and she absolutely loves it! The school excels in every aspect. They offer a diverse curriculum that includes experiential learning, daily Spanish classes, and monthly field trips. Since moving to their new campus, the school has worked so hard to provide students with a variety of activities and clubs to join. The staff is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about our children. I'm excited for my kids to continue growing and learning here, especially as the school expands to eventually serve grades K-12. Thank you, Dr. Feinstein, for all that you do for our kids and our school community!

While Candil Hall offers a great curriculum, there are too many problems that contribute to a poor…read morelearning experience for children. First, the staff turnover is incredible. One year my daughter had 3 different teachers. Each year they seem to have all new teachers and staff is constantly coming and going- other than about half of the teachers who are all related to the owner. The school is family owned which can contribute to a family feel of the school overall. However, if you are not related to the family, personal friends with the family, or volunteer with the school, your child and your family will be outcasted and excluded. Only some kids are invited to play sports. Kids they do not want on their sports teams are not even invited to try out. The principal/owner Mr. Diller regularly yells and swears at the kids. He is demeaning and borderline abusive to the students. Candil Hall also allows bullying and in some cases promotes or praises students who bully. Children who are bullied are not protected by the school. They get no help even when they feel so unsafe they don't want to go to school. Student to student threats are not taken seriously. It's incredibly disappointing the lack of concern and support shown to children at this school. While my child did leave there more advanced academically, she also left there with psychological trauma, fear, distrust of schools and teachers, and overwhelming feelings of confusion because she felt so unsafe in the place that she should feel the safest. I regret ever sending my child to this school and wish I could undo all of the trauma Candil Hall has caused her. Additionally, if you ever have any issues with the teachers, the staff, the family, etc. you will be talked negatively about and they will spread rumors to other parents about you. This school is not worth it, please look elsewhere.

I'm sure the demographics in the the area might have something to do with it. Sounds like a more logical reason. Complaints are all by parents who don't have kids attending the school. There is a reason why parents that do have kids attending give it 5 stars. It's because the school is amazing, the teachers and staff are all involved, and communication between faculty and parents regarding our child's progress is top notch.
