I brought my son to the Ruth's Chris Sarasota location on Tamiami Trail to celebrate his 22nd birthday. For a dinner for five that totaled over $700, I expected the level of service, presentation, and professionalism that typically defines fine dining. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short in several areas. Service concerns began immediately. Our server appeared noticeably untidy and seemed unprepared for the standards of a high‑end restaurant. Basic steps of service were repeatedly missed or had to be clarified multiple times. Specials were not explained, water was never proactively provided, and throughout a two‑hour dinner I had to request water refills four separate times. Given Florida's climate and the richness of the dishes, this became uncomfortable enough that I eventually asked if a water pitcher could be left at the table. Food delivery was also disorganized. Dishes arrived in an unusual and confusing order--side dishes first, then entrées in staggered intervals--making it difficult to understand what was being served and when. The food quality itself was unexpectedly disappointing. My scallops arrived in a plate so hot it felt unsafe to touch even after several minutes, and the dish was overwhelmed by an excessive amount of butter and heavy sauce that masked the flavor of the scallops entirely. The Brussels sprouts were similarly unbalanced, covered in a sauce that tasted artificial and obscured the actual ingredients. As the evening went on, the dining room emptied and the temperature inside dropped noticeably, becoming drafty enough that I needed to put on a jacket despite the mild weather outside. Staff members began congregating casually near the dining area, which further detracted from the atmosphere. Even the birthday acknowledgment was mishandled. I had discreetly arranged for a candle in the chocolate lava cake, but the server later asked my son what dessert he wanted--something we had already discussed and confirmed. This created unnecessary confusion during what should have been a simple, celebratory moment. At the end of the meal, the server promoted her happy hour shift, which felt out of place given the setting and price point. Overall, the evening lacked the professionalism, training, and attention to detail that one reasonably expects from a fine‑dining establishment, especially for a special occasion. It was an unfortunate and disappointing way to mark a meaningful birthday. Furthermore, the leftovers were hard to take home, as another server comes to question who wants what food taken, even though we've asked for 3 boxes, we had to identify, then repeat, then have her guide us if it is going to same house, and we had to answer that it is going to 3 separate homes that is why we wanted 3 boxes, it was so unpleasant, but we wanted kids to take our left over dishes home since we did not like it, and it was so hard to explain, and we spent more time with staff then celebrating our event! read more

Four of us got the special 3 course deal. Delicious! We all had the filet and shrimp. Excellent! We shared 2 mashed potatoes sides and spinach and brussell sprouts. Perfect. Sat at the bar for HH on 1/8. Josh makes great cocktails, espresso martini and gamblers old fashioned. He provides excellent service with a friendly smile. My favorite is the steak sandwich and it was awesome with great fries. My wife had the seared scallops special off the entree menu and it was good but needed more rice. Interesting. We have eaten at many Ruth's Chris venues; this one didn't fit the mold. It was more Outback Steakhouse than Ruth's Chris. We walked in for our Thanksgiving Day reservations and the guy manning the front was having an audible and visual melt down because no one was available to seat the 4 different groups standing crowded waiting in the foyer. Restaurant was loud, tightly packed, and basically inelegant, like I said, not as expected. We were seated at a defective table with an extension leaf that wasn't straight. I mentioned it and the server snapped at me that "It's FINE". Not really, please see attached pic; we had to be careful that my daughter's dinner didn't slide into her lap during the meal. Service = also interesting, everything was placed on the table with a thump, and servers yelled "do you want more water?!!" Instead of just filling the glasses. Some other table's salad order started to get thunked onto our table before the waitress stopped them. The one placed in front of me was almost in my lap because appetizer plates hadn't been cleared. Missed my lap because they used the salad dish to shove the appetizer plate to make room. Salads eventually got figured out, no cracked black pepper offered, and we were just hanging in there by then enjoying family company because enjoying the experience was difficult. Three turkey entrees were ordered, all three arrived cold. The other four non-turkey entrees looked good. Best thing about the restaurant portion of the evening is we went home with cute turkey dinner "leftover packages" they were part of the special turkey meal package. The next morning I heated up two of them for my daughter and I, and they were delicious, finally had hot food. Would be a one star except I have happy memories of the breakfast with my daughter. P.S. got a tag from Ruth's Chris, Ashley A. on this review, where they are clearly asking me to put in the work to make them "aware" of the problem. They can put in the work themselves to track this down and fix it. Also I checked management response to other low reviews, and this looks like they have it on auto-generated repeat. SO, I am removing a star for poor corporate management on top of the poor onsite management. Meh on meh. The food was really good. The ambiance was really good, but the service was mediocre. We waited to get the check for about 20 minutes and when it finally came, there was no receipt for us to pay so we had to wait another 20 minutes for the waitress to come back with the check. We also did not have a steak cutting knife and we had to wait another 15 minutes to get the knife. So waiting to get simple things took as long as it would if we were waiting to get food. read more

I don't get the hype about this place. Friend's dad really wanted the "steak house" experience for a milestone birthday and several of us joined him. They were uninterested in my single not-very-difficult allergyand basically said they would make no effort to accommodate it. People seemed to enjoy their steaks, my lamb chops were ok but overpriced, and the person who ordered crab cakes said she was "satisfied" with them. Potatoes au gratin were undercooked chunks of potato and something you might find on a chain restaurant buffet. Creamed spinach was flavorless. Oh what a night! My visiting BFF and I have a tradition of dining at Ruth's Chris when she comes for her stay. We were not disappointed at all. We were celebrating my birthday. The table was set with a birthday card, and it was sprinkled with birthday confetti. We both had the lobster and steak classic which included salad, a side and a dessert. The food was absolutely delicious. We even loved the creamed spinach! One of the highlights of the evening was the impeccable service! It was phenomenal! Anthony was our server. He was friendly, professional and attentive...One of the best servers we have had in a long time. The manager on duty was Jennifer. She also was delightful. She checked in with us at least twice and made us feel very welcome. She even helped us resolve an unexpected issue we had regarding valet parking. Sad to say but Ruth Chris has gone down hill. And I mean way down hill. It's always been a treat to go there for special occasions. Birthdays, Valentines, Anniversaries. I took my wife there for her birthday a few weeks ago. Normally, they have our table ready to go with the small glitter happy birthday things. Not this time. When I asked the host why not she said she didn't know because no one told her. After a minute she came back and said it was on the reservation after all. It's a small thing I know, but just a fun personal touch that was missed. The steaks we ordered off the 3 course section like we always do were completely un-edible. There was so much fat and grizzle that it was very difficult to even cut. We could only eat a few bites. On a positive, they were prepared as ordered and still delivered on the sizzling hot plate. But the quality of the stake is no longer there. Not even close. I'd expect that at an Outback Steakhouse. Our server did say that Ruth Chris was recently bought out by Darden Restaurants. That pretty much explains everything. They're obviously going cheap now. Sad to say but we'll be doing other steakhouses going forward. Kind of a tradition for our anniversary as we went in Scottsdale. Moved here and as a result it's our yearly visit. We both had a filets medium rare they came perfectly prepared , my wife had the Caesar and I the Wedge my salad was great and she liked hers. Comped the Bread Pudding how can you knock something free. Hope we make it another year and we'll be back as it's hard to beat for a really great steakhouse. Ruth's Crists Steakhouse is an upscale beef house. First off they do have a moderate and reasonable dress code. A visit is is a welcomed intermission from the hustle of the day. The ambience is quiet somewhat businesslike.Staff moves quietly and professionally. Every dish from appetizers to deserts are made fresh every day. Steaks are prepared with a proprietary broiling system which in their word provides the highest perfection. They may be correct as the steaks are truly superb. A wine and full liquor bar is available also. An evening at Ruth's is a relaxing experience and takes one back to a gentler and quieter time away from the routine of one's day. Went here for my birthday in April 2023 and decided to sit at the bar, being alone even thought I had a reservation. Service was fine, but guess I was looking for exceptional. Drinks were large no skimping here. Ordered ribeye figuring this would be the place for that cut of meat, oh boy was I surprised. Steak was grisly slightly over cooked, waiter no where to be found. I ate what I could and brought the rest home to my dog. When asked he did offer and gave me a "free" dessert that I took home, bread pudding thing , it wasn't very good either and for the cost of my birthday experience it wasn't free either. You can get the best food quality wise, but for the best price! FYI happy hour is Monday-Friday 4-6pm. My wife and I went to the happy hour time for food and drinks. I had the hamburger and fries, she had stuffed mushrooms and the lobster bisect soup. The burg was delicious, 10 out of 10 rating, thick and juicy. BUT, my wife's crab stuffed mushroom were mostly breading, and flavorless. And the soup tasted like it came out of a can. Had to ask the server to return them and get new. The room had many added tables probably due to it being Valentine's evening. (Maybe take another route before asking a patron to move) When we were seated we felt like an afterthought. The evening started with the server introducing his assistant that we never seen again. Daniel our server was quick on his feet and offered to bring a few shrimp at no charge when they did not table them the first time. All the food was very good but I agreed my wife the steak was on the cusp of being too salty. We tried each other's food and unlike mine, her steak was super heavy on black pepper. I like pepper but it was probably 20 percent too heavy to enjoy the natural flavor of the meat. The seasoning is to complement the taste of the meat not mask it. The Creme Brule was superb because it was balanced, rich, semi-sweet, and creamy. We were very pleased overall but didn't feel like Ruth Chris stuck the landing on this one. Our Christmas 2020 gift to one another was a spectacular sizzling 40 ounce butter-enshrouded porterhouse steak for two accompanied with their infamous creamed spinach and Au gratin potatoes. It was a 10 out of 10, nice and light red in the center, melted in our mouth. For years sitting in our favorite booth in the Minneapolis bar overseen by our great friend Zack, we would celebrate New Years. Ruth Chris is a rare restaurant where they still believe in true " old world" refined exquisite personal service. The flourish of the thin knife whisking crumbs off the table, the constant attention to your glass of water, the folding of your napkin should you temporarily leave the table, to the team bringing out your sizzling steak and sides all on one beautifully carried tray working in tandem as all three serve. These movements have been studiously trained and practiced. The spacious seating, Covid conscious, the calm ambiance where absolutely nothing is ever rushed, create a wonderful complete experience - - a much much welcome respite. We topped off our meal with fine red wine and two perfect cocktails. Then completed the experience with a delicate soft chocolate flourless warm cake, surrounded with a nice portion of raspberry syrup. We asked for a generous portion of whipped cream and received a fabulous portion - - genuine fresh heavy cream created from a special high pressure professional canister. A perfect Christmas! Steak is still king here! Filet broiled in butter and sizzling was so good. Our favorite sides are still the broiled tomatoes (not on menu but you can't still order it) and au gratin potatoes. Here's why I knocked off a star - the mushroom stuffed with crab meat. There was a LOT more breading than normal and just tasted off. It almost feels like the recipe was altered slightly. I'm hoping that they read it and adjust this back to normal since their recipes tend to be very consistent across the restaurants. After reading some of the other reviews that were more recent, I wonder if they changed chefs. Maybe, it's time to look for a new one who can follow recipes. I have been to several Ruth's Chris but this was so disappointing. Service was great from the greeting to the service assistant to our waiter. Very polite and prompt. Our waiter asked if we wanted to relax with our wine and gave us time. That was great. We were in no hurry and wanted to have a relaxing Tuesday evening and I was looking forward to a great Ribeye. We decided to have Lobster Bisque, spicy Shrimp and Share a Cowboy Bone-in Ribeye and an order of mushrooms all paired with two glasses of Malbec. They started us with bread. It seemed stale. They were out of Lobster Bisque and had not had any for about a week. That was a surprise and reflected poorly that a mainstay menu item was out for a long period of time and not replaced with a comparable item. It was even listed as part of the Ruth's Classics on the chef's favorites menu. The Spicy Shrimp were very good but kind of small. When going to Ruth's Chris, the steak is the meal main attraction. Ordered the Ribeye Medium Rare. It was an incredibly tough thin, maybe 3/4", piece of meat. Such a letdown. I don't think they let the meat rest prior to serving and I think it was cooked from a very cold temperature. It reminded me of something that would be served at a school cafeteria, or Ponderosa, not a fine steakhouse with Ruth's Chris' prices. I arrived back home, still hungry , still craving a great streak, but I'll have to go elsewhere. read more
