On or about October 30th, she walked in on her cell phone and said, "Oh good God," which was unprofessional and offensive. My mom has swallowing issues from her stroke, yet Joann tried to give her multiple pills at once and moved the cup toward her too fast. When I told her to stop, she snapped, "I've been a nurse over 20 years and I know what I'm doing," and then pushed my hand away as I tried to protect my mom. No nurse should ever push or touch a family member--completely unacceptable behavior. Overall, Sheltering Arms Rehab Center is very good, and the therapy team is excellent. Jonathan was outstanding with my mom's care. I truly hope Joann has been reprimanded and disciplined appropriately so this never happens to another family. Giving a one star only because of the incident with Joann.

My PTs and OT were amazing, patient, kind, supportive. sympathetic and driven! I appreciate their dedication and encouragement. Our families noticed a change in his behavior and were happy to see him less clingy. We worked with them in and out of the office and that was so helpful when we had questions and needed more help at home. They offered solutions and prompt responses via email and guided us on how we can help me at home. Separation anxiety is not only challenging for the child but, IMO also for parents esp. moms, or whoever spends the most time with the child. In this case it was me, and I def. learned a lot in terms of how to help him during those transitional phases although they were hard for me but Becca and Courtney's guidance put me to ease and helped us incredibly! All the staff on site is helpful and always willing to help! I would recommend this location for anyone seeking therapy services for their kids.

This is something I've never had to worry about with Emily (OT) and Ginger (Speech) at Southeastern Therapy for Kids (Near West End location). I have taken my 3 y/o son here for the last month or so and couldn't be more impressed. My son started seeing Emily for OT and is already making process with sensory-related tasks/eating. It's been incredible to be able to see changes already. In addition, my son recently started with Ginger to help further his progress in oral muscle development and speech. I have no doubt about the progress we will soon be seeing from his work with Ginger as well. What makes Southeastern Therapy for Kids even better is that not only do I love them, so do my kids. Both Emily and Ginger are kind, FUN, and know how to quickly build a rapport with a child. I've had my son come out of sessions with Emily in which she's got him to engage in different foods by utilizing play. She's even let him paint her face with yogurt. Just today, Ginger brought a speaker out into the waiting room to have a Baby Shark dance party...not just for my kids but for her and anyone else that will join in. They include my son's twin sister in sessions often, which is so incredibly thoughtful on their part because at three years old, it's hard to explain why her twin brother gets to go "play" while she stays with mom. Emily and Ginger work together and complement each other the way any team should. They work to meet any needs or concerns you may have and truly treat you like family. To be honest, I almost never write reviews but with Southeastern Therapy for Kids and what they've done for us in the matter of just a few short weeks, how could I not?

He answers all of my questions, whether they are business related or medical. He is also really good natured and makes the process less stressful. The practice also has a wide range of hours, meaning I have been able to set appointments at any time (as long as I book out a couple weeks), even after work! The front desk staff is also very kind, I am always greeted, and they are always willing to work with me on scheduling. They also have a whole corner (pictured) with recommendations for massage therapists, gyms, and other treatments you might need on your healing journey, which I think is super cool. Overall I would highly recommend this place as a knowledgeable practice, with people who really care about seeing you get better.

From the very first appointment they were thorough, kind and informative. I was there weekly from Feb 2024-Feb 2025 for Speech and Occupational therapy. It was hard work, and I wasn't sure if I would function in a normal life again, but they worked hard with me and now I can do the things I was doing before. They altered a lot of material, and even came up with new material for me to specifically target my symptoms and my unique mental processing. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for CNS. I highly recommend them. Lisa Morrow- Virginia Beach, VA

From 2004-2006 another local neurologist was treating my daily migraines and many other symptoms from the (as of that time undiagnosed) permanent brain injury that I received in the dog attack. This other neurologist's ONLY treatment for me was Vicodin, which was not helping me, it was only making it worse. He did not listen to me nor do an MRI. At the time that I first went to CNS I was barely able to speak in full sentences. Each morning would start with me being sick, from waking up with a migraine, so I could not be around bright lights w/o extreme pain in my head. I had a severe balance problem causing me to fall down three flights of stairs fracturing my spine in several places. I could go on, but you probably get the picture. Dr. O'Shanick listened to me. He properly diagnosed me and helped me with O.T., Speech Therapy, got me off of the Vicodin and on proper migraine therapy. After two years of daily migraines and not wanting to leave the darkness in my home, I finally started to function again! I could remember words when I would have a conversation with my kids. The migraines slowly went away, thank the Lord! I stopped falling, learning how to deal with my balance being 'off'. In short, thanks to Dr. O'Shanick, I actually feel 'human' again. That can only be understood by someone who has suffered a brain injury. I do still have ringing in my ears, but unfortunately that is permanent. And hey, considering how bad I was, I'm doing pretty great! And I give all the credit to Dr. O'Shanick and his staff. Martinea Mease
