My hair was damaged from a previous boho style, and she gave me great recommendations on how to grow it out and get it healthy again. She worked so fast before I knew it, my hair was done! I got a silk press and clip-ins, plus she gave me a cut (which was included in the price). The prices were great, especially for the quality of service and experience I had. When I arrive the price raises to $120. because, (I quote Cecilia) "$80 is to cover they grey hair in the front. If you want the new growth covered on your entire head it's $120." Who quotes half a head?? Then when it's time to start brushing my natural hair out before the dye process she brushes 1/3 of one section of hair, goes to another customer, comes back and says she's done and will now start the dye process. I ask what about brushing out the rest of my hair and Cecilia says it's not necessary. After the dye process when it's time to detangle my natural hair she pulls at it exactly twice telling me she is "finger detangling." I guess since a) I have natural hair and b) I was not getting my hair styled, Cecilia could not be bothered with doing any actual detangling. As a result, I spend 90 MINUTES detangling my completely matted hair when I get home because it has been dyed, placed under the dryer, washed and placed under the dryer again and not detangled even ONCE by Cecilia during this entire process. Two days later I notice entire sections of my hair are still grey. I contact Cecilia, she asks me to send her pictures and I do. She apologizes profusely and says I can come back in and she will cover the greys. If she had done the job properly in the first place and combed my hair out, I would not have to take time out of my day and go back.

I am almost fully gray (started at 11 yrs) and I live my hair color so e just focused on my hair health. We spoke first, about what my expectations are and what regimen I use. We went over everything, from products to schedules and how I style my hair at home. She started the process and went over everything that she was using, why she was using it and what it would do for my hair. She meticulously styled my hair and cut it into a shape that fit me and while it was a bit overwhelming, the look was already growing on me by the time we finished. The whole time, we talked like we were old friends because she's very personable. This was, by far, one of the best salon experiences I've ever had. She told me what I need to do at home to maintain what she's started in the salon. She emailed the products that she used so that I can recreate the styling process at home. I'm thankful for her time and dedication to the craft. A stylist can only give you the tools to assist you in your journey. You have to put in the effort to maintain so that you're successful at reaching your desired outcome. From the start, she was so warm and encouraging. She found hair that perfectly matched mine in color, density, thickness (blond, thin and fine) and created a beautiful halo that looked natural. I was a little worried that I'd be able to pull it off (I am relatively low maintenance) but Catherine worked with my patiently to answer all my questions and to make sure I was happy with the way it looked. It had been ten years since I had them last and I was a little bit traumatized by the experience of getting them out, as it had left my hair horribly broken and damaged. That said, they were done with synthetic hair. Real hair makes all the difference with the extent of damage to your own hair. Catherine only uses high quality hair and is an expert with weft extensions (in the past, I had pinch braid style). She works out of Uliana Hair Studio these days, a lovely salon in the East Village (I reviewed it separately). You go in for a consultation and discuss options, which include tape, sew-in or halo (non permanent). I went for sew-in as I wanted something semi permanent. My wedding was several months away and I wanted to get used to this hair thing before then. If you choose this method, you need to go in and get it maintained every 4-6 weeks to keep it looking good. The hair is so seamlessly blended with your own that you will forget that you don't actually have that perfect, thick long hair! It's so natural that you'll get more of the, "wow, your hair has grown so long" types of compliments. When I'd tell people that they were extensions, they couldn't believe it. Man, I wish my hair was this thick and healthy! I've had thin, lousy hair since I was like 11. Years of dying, flat ironing and blow drying hasn't done it any favors either. Prices are extremely fair in comparison to other salons, not only in NYC but across the country. Yes, this is an investment, but you pay for quality. It was worth it. I decided after my wedding that the sew-ins and the necessary maintenance weren't for me anymore. Catherine made my 2 wefts into a halo that I wear occasionally (OK, rarely. I've been digging the easiness of my shoulder length hair, especially in winter when long hair keeps getting caught in coats and scarves). Note that my hair was not really damaged at all after having the extensions in for 7 months. Incredible. Catherine is awesome. I appreciated that she was willing to work with me and what I needed as far as the length and thickness of the extensions (initially they were a bit too "much" for me, so she shaped them up and thinned them out a bit). I enjoyed talking to her and getting to know her on each of my visits. Oh and she is also great when it comes to dying your hair!
